Episode Summary: Running a law firm shouldn't mean sacrificing your time, your profit, or your peace of mind. In this solo episode, I break down the Law Firm Freedom Audit—a proven diagnostic tool designed to help law firm owners identify exactly where their practice is leaking time, profit, or control. Whether you're deep in the trenches or already on your growth path, this episode will help you uncover hidden inefficiencies and give you a clear roadmap toward building a scalable, sustainable firm. Key Segment: Understanding My Freedom & Profit Score When I took the Law Firm Freedom Audit, I realised the number I got wasn't just a score—it was a mirror. It reflected how sustainable, profitable, and scalable my law firm really was. Here's what I learned about what each score range means: 110–140: The Scalable Zone I've built something solid. The systems are working, the team is in sync, and best of all—my business doesn't depend solely on me anymore. There's freedom here, and it feels good. Next move: Now's the time to scale with intention. The foundation is set—it's time to go bigger, smarter. 85–109: A Solid Start, But Still a Bit Scrappy Things are moving in the right direction, but I can feel where the cracks are. A bit of stress creeps in, and profits don't quite match the effort I'm putting in. It's frustrating, but fixable. Next move: I need to step back, identify what's slowing me down—whether it's clunky systems, role confusion, or missed opportunities—and start tightening things up. 60–84: I'm the Operator, and It's Wearing Me Down Let's be honest—if I take a break, everything pauses. I'm juggling too much, and it's exhausting. The business works, but only because I'm pushing hard behind the scenes. Next move: This is my sign to stop doing it all myself. I need to delegate, build systems, and make the shift from being the operator to becoming the owner. Below 60: This Is My Wake-Up Call If I'm here, I already know things aren't working. I'm doing everything and burning out fast. Profits are thin, and there's no structure holding things together. Growth? It feels out of reach right now. Next move: I need to pause. Reassess. And rebuild—with purpose. This isn't failure—it's a signal that something needs to change, for me and for the future of my firm. Takeaways: Why staying in “operator mode” is holding your firm back from real growth How to score your firm's performance across 5 critical areas: Leadership & Time Management Systems & Processes Team & Delegation Financial Control & Profit Personal Wellbeing & Lifestyle What your Freedom & Profit Score means—and what to do next The link between system gaps and burnout (and how to fix both) How to take action immediately to shift from survival to strategy Resources & Links Mentioned: Download the FREE Law Firm Freedom Audit – Takes 10 minutes and reveals your biggest growth opportunities. Welcome to Uncharted Conversations, a new Navigating Major Programmes series designed to disrupt industry thinking one unscripted conversation at a time. In each episode, the panelists bring their diverse perspectives to the table as self-dubbed industry pirates, adopting a mercenary approach to calling out industry challenges. Up first: collaborative contracts. David Ho is the National Leader of Healthcare and Buildings for Accenture. Melissa Di Marco is a Partner and specialist in Project Advisory and Disputes at Accuracy. Shormila Chatterjee is the Vice President of EY. Together, these experienced programme professionals discuss the complexities of collaborative contracting in the infrastructure sector, including often-seen core competency shortcomings and the importance of empowering the right decision makers.Too often, collaboration is misconstrued as the project goal when it is, in fact, merely one possible vehicle. This conversation delves into market participation, trust issues and risk allocation, and why technical skill shouldn't top the recruitment checklist. Decision-making, competency, and governance are painstakingly dissected in this no-holds-barred discussion that highlights the problems not with collaborative contracts themselves but with the assumption that choosing this model will fix all the problems. Join these leaders as they explore why the infrastructure industry might be ready for a seismic systemic shift.Takeaways:Why every organization's first question should be whether they have the skills to manage a collaborative contract. The dangers of assuming a collaborative contract will automatically be easier and mitigate risk. The need for a strong collection of capable people around the table for any programme model to succeed. How systems and governance can be structured with empowerment in mind. The soft skills that are essential, and more important than technical experience, for true collaboration.Quote: “The idea will be to enter into a process with a winning counterparty. We can call them whatever we want, development partner, whatever it might be. But that period of dialogue and iteration, if it is prescribed by an even more detailed rulebook, in my mind, it doesn't matter if the end of that rulebook still doesn't have a fixed price. All you're doing is layering on a set of rules that is now a wholly dependent upon the behavioural interpretations of the people playing the game. And if the behavioural interpretation is, I'm going to use the rules to my advantage to exploit your bad writing of the rules, or I'm going to use the rules to my advantage to compel you to obey no matter what. Then forget it. It's not collaborative. It is just a more involved rule book for less certainty of outcome.” - David HoThe conversation doesn't stop here—connect and converse with our community via LinkedIn:Follow Navigating Major ProgrammesFollow Riccardo CosentinoRead Riccardo's latest at www.riccardocosentino.comFollow David HoFollow Melissa Di MarcoFollow Shormilla Chatterjee Music: "A New Tomorrow" by Chordial Music. This episode is a raw reflection on anxiety, visibility, and what we lose when we chase success without slowing down. Recorded in the car on a rainy Sunday morning, Please forgive me, the quality is not that good. I talk about the quiet anxiety I've carried since childhood.... the kind that shows up before Monday hits, when you're grinding hard but still feel invisible. I share stories I've never said out loud, about fear, burnout, and the moment I looked through the glass door of my office and realized… I missed my wife. Takeaways: Why anxiety often shows up when we're finally alone with our thoughts .... especially on SundaysHow early fears of being seen shaped my silence (and how that silence cost me connection)What high-achievers miss when they stay too focused on the goalA reminder that you can be visible in the world and still disconnected at home and how to change thatWhy being heard isn't just about speaking louder, but learning to feel safe enough to be seen If you've been feeling stretched, unseen, or like you're building something at the cost of your own peace , this one's for you. The problem with being human is that we believe our version of truth is the truth. Not because we're bad—but because we're wired that way. This episode is a story of blindness. Not the kind you see—but the kind you don't even know you have. You're not as open-minded as you think. That's not an insult—it's just how the brain works. We shortcut. We judge. We protect our ego like it's a vintage vinyl. In this episode, I dive into the strange ways our own minds trick us into thinking we're rational, original, and morally superior. I walk through how prejudice isn't just about race—it's about music, anger, taste, careers, and even your opinion of running. You'll hear about blind spots in your day-to-day that quietly shape your reality, and how to start noticing them before they run the show. Takeaways: Why your opinions probably aren't your own Why improving your taste is more important than finding your passion A simple trick to challenge your ego without bruising it You can't change the world if you can't first question the lens you're using to see it. Other Traveler Types and Strategies The Domestic Traveler: Focused on U.S. destinations, this traveler maximizes Chase Ultimate Rewards and co-branded hotel cards for family road trips or visiting relatives. The Road Tripper: Ideal for families who avoid flying, this strategy uses hotel cards like Hyatt or Marriott to save on stays during sports tournaments or weekend getaways. "Being the sidekick in your own story isn't just about staying in the background—it's about letting your doubts and fears dictate your actions. And that's why it's so important to recognise when those fears are holding you back, and to challenge them." Episode Overview:In this episode of Her Leadership Coach, we're diving into the concept of the hero's journey and how it applies to leadership. While many of us are familiar with the idea of the hero in movies and books, what happens when we bring that concept into our own lives? For many women, stepping into the hero role can feel daunting, and we often find ourselves playing the sidekick instead. Rochelle shares her thoughts on why this happens, personal stories from her leadership journey, and how to find the balance between stepping up and stepping back. Takeaways: Why so many women feel more comfortable in the sidekick role and the cultural and personal reasons behind it. Leadership is not about always being in the spotlight—it's about recognising when it's your time to step up and when it's time to let others shine. Your inner saboteur can keep you from being the hero of your own journey, but recognising and challenging that voice can lead to growth and empowerment. Sometimes being a great leader means stepping back and allowing others to take the lead, creating a more powerful and effective team dynamic. Call to Action: Reflect on where you've been playing the sidekick in your own life or career. What would it look like if you stepped into the hero role? How would that change your approach to leadership? In the last 13 years, Melissa has worked with over 10 marketing agencies/contractors to execute a content strategy. Most couldn't deliver on their promise. It was incredibly frustrating. You may have experienced something similar. The vicious cycle went something like this:→ Hire company experienced in digital marketing for min 3-6 months→ Get proposal of new content strategy because old one was bad→ Technical and content audit, keyword research→ Receive mediocre pieces of content→ Realize company is not a good fit→ Start over after spending $10k+Most writers wrote for the sake of generating more clicks without a deep understanding of our business and customers. As a result, their content was basic and boring. Most pieces were not written for the advanced business users they wanted to attract.Melissa and Todd finally decided to take back control and learn SEO and content writing from the ground up.Takeaways:• Why marketing agencies suck• The importance of owning your SEO when it's a primary revenue source• Benefits of knowing how SEO and content works• How to own your SEO, and skills required• Companies that can help you on this journeyContact ProfitLed Tweet us at @profitledfm.
