The Arizona Cardinals signed linebacker Markus Bailey and brought in veteran receiver Zay Jones for a visit this week. Jess and Seth discuss the moves. They also look at the roster and discuss what veteran players are now on the chopping block with the addition of 12 new draft picks. Lastly, they talk about the uniform numbers of the Cardinals' draft picks.
The Bengals' athleticism stretches outside of the gridiron. Logan Wilson's softball game put that on full display on Wednesday. Backup players like Joe Bachie wouldn't pass through most people's minds when thinking of superstars in Cincinnati. He proved those people wrong with his grand slam performance at the plate. Some stars were multisport athletes before they became stars in the NFL. So who are the most athletic stars on the Bengals? And what can their potential become? The Strictly Stripes crew has fun with this edition of the podcast and looks at the most talented Bengals stars away from the gridiron. Special teams star and linebacker Markus Bailey also joins the podcast to talk about his unique role. This podcast features Mohammad Ahmad and Andrew Gillis. The boys talk with Bengals Linebacker Markus Bailey. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/derrick-davis15/support
On today's show, we're joined by special guest and Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Markus Bailey! To kick things off, Markus tells us a little bit about his off-season so far, plus some of the travel he's looking forward to taking in with teammates Ted Karras and Michael Thomas. Then, he shares what he's looking forward to entering his 4th season as a pro, plus why it's great to have Lou Anarumo back at defensive coordinator to kepe things moving. Later, Markus discusses his key roles in two massive playoff games for the Bengals, including his story behind the Fumble in the Jungle. Finally, Markus fills us in on some of his off-the-field interests, including his interest in human performance.
Free agency will likely have an impact on the Bengals' linebacker room. Germaine Pratt, set to hit free agency this offseason, may have likely played his last game in a Bengals uniform. With the Joe Burrow extension era in effect, the Bengals may opt to let him walk with fellow linebacker Logan Wilson entering a contract year next season. Reserve linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither seems like the likely candidate to fill Pratt's shoes if he's not back in Cincinnati in 2023. The third-year linebacker only played about 22% of total defensive snaps but made most of them count, including his interception in the wild card game against Baltimore. However, Clay Johnston and Joe Bachie, two backups who mainly played on special teams, are also free agents and aren't surefire locks. Even if the Bengals decide to bring them back, they may have to use some draft capital to fill part of the void that would be left by Pratt. Draft capital may be critical especially if Wilson doesn't land an extension before this season or isn't resigned before the 2024 season. Markus Bailey, another special teams linebacker who's been used in multiple subpackages, might be the one to fill Davis-Gaither's shoes if Davis-Gaither starts. The Strictly Stripes podcast crew looks at how much of a drop-off there could be in a world where Pratt doesn't return in 2023. Aside from the current reserves on the Bengals' roster, they look at any possible names the Bengals should consider in free agency or in this April's NFL Draft. This podcast features Mohammad Ahmad, Andrew Gillis and Michael Niziolek. Music: Starfields by Hallman Music Link: Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Typically, football doesn't come up often in my work, but I've recently had the unique opportunity to partner with NFL player Markus Bailey of the Cincinnati Bengals. Markus picked Global Food Justice Alliance as his non-profit of choice in the My Cause, My Cleats campaign. Until December 31, 2022, all donations through this link will be used to purchase Paleovalley's 100% grass-fed beef sticks (at cost) and send them to Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati. Listen in as Markus, and I chat about our joint initiative. Episode Credits: Thank you to all who've made this show possible. Our hosts are Diana Rodgers and James Connelly. It was another big week on In The Trenches with Dave Lapham, presented by First Star Logistics, as the Bengals looked to extend their winning streak to six games taking on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and "The Goat," Tom Brady, on the road. After a rough start, Zac Taylor watched his defense step forward, forcing Brady into two interceptions and two fumbles, with In The Trenches favorite D.J. Reader showing why he's a Pro Bowl performer. Down17-3 to Brady at the half, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow took advantage of the Buccaneers miscues finishing the game going 27 of 39 for 200 yards, four touchdowns with one interception off another tipped pass. Wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase led all Bengals' receivers with seven receptions for 60 yards and one score. In comparison, Tyler Boyd showed his toughness playing with a surgically repaired finger last weekend with five receptions for 35 yards and a score. The 34-23 victory was won using all phases of the game as special teams also came up big on a Buccaneers punting miscue recovered by Markus Bailey, coffin corner punting by Drue Chrisman, and kickoff coverage keeping Tampa Bay in poor field position. The win keeps the Bengals sitting at the top of the AFC North standings, one full game ahead of the Baltimore Ravens and third overall in the AFC playoff standings heading into their Week 16 match-up against the New England Patriots on Christmas Eve at 1:00 p.m. est. on the road. Dave Lapham spoke with Dave Berk following the game and gave his postgame thoughts on the Bengals' big win over the Buccaneers.
One of the bright spots of the 2021 Cincinnati Bengals has been the overall play of Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo's squad. Sunday's 15-10 win over the Denver Broncos was another big test and reason the Bengals have scratched their way to the top of the AFC North with three weeks left in the season. While Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard have led the way and injuries have hit the linebacker core hard, players like Markus Bailey and Khalid Kareem have stepped forward. Anarumo talks about the Broncos win before turning his focus towards their Week 16 opponent, the Baltimore Ravens, a team the Bengals beat 41-17 in Week Seven of the season. Get the latest directly from the man in charge of putting together the Bengals game plan to take the next step in the road to the playoffs as Lou Anarumo returns to In The Trenches with Dave Lapham presented by First Star Logistics.
On today's episode, the guys look at the path to the playoffs in the second half, as the AFC and AFC North alike remain wide open. They talk through a hilarious Week Ten of results for division opponents, plus what that division could mean for the Bengals. they also discuss the news regarding Akeem Davis-Gaither and the opportunity ahead for Markus Bailey. Further, they look at the second half players that need to erupt for big moments, including Jessie Bates III and Joe Burrow. Finally, they wrap up by evaluating the match-up with the tricky team to gauge in the Las Vegas Raiders.
In this episode of In The Trenches with Dave Lapham presented by First Star Logistics, we look at the youngest position group on the Cincinnati Bengals 53 man roster, the linebackers. Logan Wilson and Germaine Pratt will look to lead Akeem Davis-Gaither, Markus Bailey, and Jordan Evans with Evans being the longest-tenured player at the position on the roster.
