Having the opportunity to work, learn and grow under some of the most highly respected decision makers in the NFL is one thing, taking advantage of all the mentoring is another. Eric Stokes certainly did the latter and discusses it all on Scouting the League. From his days with the Nebraska Cornhuskers under legend Tom Osborne, to joining a Seattle Seahawks staff with Mike Holmgren and Ted Thompson, Eric talks about all the influences he had along the way. John Schneider, Marty Hurney, Dave Gettleman and Ted Thompson, just to name a few. What did he learn from each of them and apply it to his scouting life. We also discuss what a front office exec is doing as we approach the final week of the pre-season and all the considerations a team has when setting not just their 53, but their practice squad as well. All this and so much more. We saw Brian Daboll say he would trade up for a QB. Boomer says if that were him, his relationship with his head coach would be strained. Daniel Jones can't trust anyone left in that building. Gio points out he hasn't earned their trust. Gio wonders about Dave Gettleman's process that led him to Kadarius Toney after seeing how thorough Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll were this year. Gio also wants to know what the Giants thought of Michael Penix. Jerry is back for an update but first we ask if people really believe Sal mushed the Mets. The Mets lost their second straight to the Braves and Ryne Stanek had a rough debut. Jazz Chisholm enjoyed his first Yankees/Red Sox experience and playing in front of a big crowd. Hour 1 Boomer is back with Al and Eddie out for the week. Gio is happy to have his partner back after a few days with Stugotz. The trade deadline is tomorrow and both the Yankees and Mets have already been active. The Yankees brought in show favorite (because of Eddie's drops) Jazz Chisholm Jr. while the Mets have added Jesse Winker and Ryne Stanek. Boomer says it's an all-in move for the Yankees while David Stearns has been making smart moves. The Mets lost Kodai Senga in his first start of the season. Boomer was annoyed at Gleyber Torres for  making a baserunning blunder last night and at the ESPN booth for not calling it out. Chris McMonigle chimes in to defend Gleyber. Jerry is here for his first update and Boomer wants to start with a wellness check on Frank the Tank, so Jerry does just that. Sal tweeted that the NL Wild Card race was over when the Mets took a big lead on Friday night against the Braves. A few minutes later, Kodai Senga went down. Frank the Tank went off on Sal in a video on social media. Gio fills Boomer and Jerry in on his week with Stugotz. The Mets lost Sunday and split their series with the Braves. The Yankees won their second straight from the Red Sox to take two out of three in the series. Jazz Chisholm is now a Yankee. That name has tripped up so many broadcasters already. In the final segment of the hour, Gio says he found the Olympic Opening Ceremony to be very funny. Some people were offended by the drag queens and Gio thought it was funny that the people involved thought it would be well-received. Hour 2 Tua Tagovailoa and Jordan Love received massive extensions over the weekend. Dak Prescott is next in line for an extension and the Cowboys have no choice but to pay him. Patrick Mahomes is now underpaid. Gio is already sick of training camp highlights videos. Boomer is amazed by how much the Giants have allowed to be shown in Hard Knocks. Team USA blew out Serbia while Jayson Tatum didn't play because of “matchups”. A local olympian has a day job. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer expects David Stearns to continue “churning and burning” before the trade deadline. Boomer still feels the Yankees are on their way to the World Series. Who will sit when Stanton returns? How will the Yankees configure their lineup? Gio tells Boomer about how awful it was golfing with Stugotz. Hour 3 Boomer saw his nephew who took a foul ball off his thigh a few weeks ago. A caller played golf with Stugotz's father. Gio explains Stugotz's motives to Boomer. Evan doesn't seem to realize that everyone around him wants his job. Eddie Scozzare is going to be very difficult to replace. Jerry returns for an update but first, Boomer extends Jerry another way-too-late invitation. Jazz Chisholm is open to playing third base for the first time to help the Yankees. The Mets weekend took a bad turn when Kodai Senga got hurt and some fans think it's Sal's fault. Aaron Rodgers congratulated Jordan Love on his extension and encouraged Love to buy his old house. Boomer says the Packers are paying Love for what they think his future can be because he hasn't earned that contract. What can Rodgers do with his empty mansion in Wisconsin? Boomer and Gio begin asking potential candidates Mike Fliegelman and Brian Rascona about replacing Eddie Scozzare. In the final segment of the hour, we wonder what other moves the Mets will make before tomorrow's trade deadline. Boomer says David Stearns owes it to Mets players to be aggressive. Hour 4 We mocked Chris “Mad Dog” Russo for betting 10K on the Jets over but Gio thought about it and actually likes the bet. Gio thinks the Jets can be very good and get off to a hot start. Boomer agrees and says the Jets wanted to start the season on the road. Boomer still sees a Davante Adams trade to the Jets coming at some point. Jerry returns for his final update of the day but first we show off a gift from our friends at spermbank.com. Boomer got some of his sperm bank questions answered during the break. How would everyone on the show be labeled at a sperm bank? The Mets need to win to save Sal from Mets fans, especially Frank the Tank. Jazz Chisholm is excited to be a Yankee. The White Sox are terrible. Aaron Rodgers has a message for Jets fans. He says it's been a  rough 13 years but the tide is turning. Tua got paid. Do Celtics fans care that Jayson Tatum didn't play for Team USA? The Moment of The Day involves our first issue with Jazz Chisholm's name. The honor belongs to Marco Balletti. In the final segment of the day, Gio received an update from Frank the Tank's producer and friend. He says “vibes are not great”. We have updates on candidates to replace Eddie. Dov Kramer has taken himself out of the mix but Pete Bellotti, who worked here for many years and is still with the company, wants the job.

Hour 1 Boomer is out today and Stugotz is filling in, so it's Gio & Stugotz. We started with the Mets beating the Yankees again as the Yankees continue to struggle at the plate. Gio doesn't believe in this Yankees lineup at all. The Yankees were supposed to be going for it this year which is why they went out and got Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo. Gio wonders what's the point in signing Soto if they don't go to the ALCS. C-Lo is in for Jerry and here for his first update of the day and has all the sounds from the Mets beating the Yankees. C-Lo has audio from Hard Knocks where Joe Schoen is very interested in Drake Maye. Bryson DeChambeau golfed with Donald Trump for his YouTube series and they talked about music playlists. In the final segment of the hour, we talked more about the Mets beating the Yankees last night in the Bronx Hour 2 Joe Schoen has become a star on Hard Knocks. Yesterday Gio hit a moving car with a golf ball.  Hour 3 Stugotz got hit in the head with a golf ball right in the forehead. He said he was gushing blood but played the next hole. We took calls about Gio hitting a car while on the golf course. There was a debate whether Gio was liable or not and a few lawyers called in. An old school caller, John in Glen Cove, called in to talk to Gio for the first time in many years. He thinks the Yankees are under too much pressure and need to let their players grow their hair long. C-Lo returned for an update and started with all the sounds of the Mets beating the Yankees in the Bronx. The middle of the Yankees lineup has been a disaster. Bryson DeChambeau had Donald Trump on his YouTube golf show. In the final segment of the hour, Gio's daughter spilled water and he wanted her to get the towel herself. She was whining until Gio yelled at her to get the towel. He gave her 3 or 4 chances before he started yelling. He does not want to raise a spoiled child. Demon voice Gio was needed.  Hour 4 We talked about Craig Carton calling a Yankees game in a few weeks. Stugotz did a Marlins game once and we have some clips. He said it's a lot harder to do than you would think. Gio and Boomer called a few Devils games and Gio said he was nervous and it was hard to do. We are going to Jets camp in a few weeks and Gio doesn't want another awkward Aaron Rodgers interview. He might prefer Al to interview him about UFO's and conspiracy theories. Or maybe Eddie could talk to him about stuff. C-Lo returns for his final update of the day and has audio of CC Sabathia and a superstitious Derek Jeter. Johnny Damon was with BT and Sal and thinks he started another curse of the Bambino. C-Lo has audio from Hard Knocks analyzing potential draft picks. Saquon talked about his lack of relationship with Joe Schoen. 49'er Deommodore Lenoir's smoke detector has been chirping for over a year and he won't change the battery because he's superstitious. The Moment of The Day involves Donald Trump golfing with Bryson DeChambeau. In the final segment of the show, the Kelce brothers are doing a cereal that's a combination of a few cereals. Gio said when he was younger he used to love Grape Nuts. He would eat it with almond milk and Splenda.

Good afternoon! Hope everyone has prepared their grills and country-music playlists accordingly for July 4. First, a quick programming note. When it gets quiet here at Go Long, I promise that's a good thing. This lull in the NFL calendar is prime time to chip away at bigger projects. Will be sharing the first extensive feature on Monday morning. Until then, here's a new episode of the Go Long Show with co-host Jim Monos.Hard Knocks is taking a look at the New York Giants, a club we've examined from Dave Gettleman to Joe Schoen and many Daniel Jones decisions along the way. And so far, so good. We've actually been treated to substance. For the Giants, this 2024 season is clearly all about the quarterback who has started 61 games. The Giants' calculated gamble is that a refurbished interior line, a new No. 1 wideout (Malik Nabers) and two-plus years with Brian Daboll elevate their $40 million QB. There is much risk involved. We discuss. If you're the general manager of a football team, would you hang onto the previous regime's best players? Or start over? Monos shares his thoughts. Now is not the time to hyper-analyze and agonize over OTA reps. While tempting, it's dangerous to watch a few 7-on-7 throws and make bold proclamations about a quarterback's “chemistry” with a rookie receiver. However, this is a perfect opportunity to take a deep breath and see where a few teams stand post-draft because not every team got what it wanted on draft day. Hello, New York Giants. A club that tried and failed to trade up for North Carolina's Drake Maye. We've spent plenty of time vacillating over Daniel Jones' future here at Go Long. His career appeared all but finished in NY at the end of Dave Gettleman's tenure, Brian Daboll helped resurrect his career, Joe Schoen believed with a big contract and yet the Giants still felt compelled to explore the possibility of Maye after another injury-marred season. The Giants can theoretically move on after this 2024 season. Ushering in a rookie made sense.Instead, Schoen could only go so far with his trade offer. Instead, Eliot Wolf refused to move off the No. 3 pick and took his QB. Where does this leave the Giants? And how is the entire NFC East shaping up? It's hard to make much sense of the Dallas Cowboys' inaction. We discuss all of this (and “Beach Metal Detector Guy,” Mike McCarthy, Jayden Daniels, Mike Tolbert and Caitlin Clark) on the Go Long Show with longtime NFL personnel man Jim Monos.Quick programming note: I'm on the road in Florida for stories you'll see over the coming weeks and months. Cannot wait to share. A lot planned. After the mobile microphone broke in the carry-on bag — and after a rat race for a replacement in Jacksonville — the sound's not quite as crystal-clear as usual. But their bullpen did not look good. The Yankees season seems to be at a crossroads right now. Justin Herbert got a huge extension with the Chargers. Joe Burrow is up next. Details of the Aaron Rodgers contract emerged and it's going to cost the Jets over $100 million next season. If Rodgers plays for 3 years, Zach Wilson is a goner. Boomer said Zach Wilson could be the next Geno Smith. It's rare, but it does happen. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with the sounds of the Mets beating the Yankees last night 9-3. Alonso talked about finally being productive the last few games. Verlander said he's starting to feel sharper. Francisco Alvarez was hit on the hand with a pitch but x-rays were negative. Aaron Judge could be back this weekend against the Orioles. The Braves turned a very rare 8-3-5 triple play. Brian Daboll talked about having Saquon Barkley signed. Mike Francesa was on SNY with Sal Licata and JJ. Chris Russo had a problem pronouncing ‘click bait'. Francisco Alvarez took a pitch to his hand but x-rays were negative. The Giants have their first training camp practice today. Jerry Jones talked about offensive play calling. This doesn't come as a surprise. The four-year, $72 million contract handed out by Dave Gettleman ended up being a total dud. This move (if not done post-June 1) will clear $6.7M in cap space for 2023 and Golladay will be off the books in 2024.   New York's #2 Sports Show is an Influencer Audio production.   Music provided by Stephen Dillaro: https://soundcloud.com/stephendillaro

Adam discusses the $44 million dollars in ca space that Joe Schoen will have to work with this off-season to improve the Giants roster. In just two quick potential moves, the contracts of Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley will eat up nearly all of that space. There are glaring decisions on the roster from Leonard Williams $32m dollar cap hit, and the Dave Gettleman hold-over mistake Kenny Golladay who occupies a 2023 salary of $21m Adjusting, releasing or trading these two players would give the Giants significant financial wiggle room. That matters, because as Adam highlights there are a minimum of four starting roles on both offense and defense that must be upgraded to put Big Blue in a position to complete next season. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/onegiantpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/onegiantpodcast/support
