MLB – Major League Baseball Yesterday St. Louis Cardinals 1, Chicago Cubs 0 Kansas City Royals 6, Chicago White Sox 4 Tigers were off Cardinals 1, Cubs 0 – Pujols homers as Montgomery, Cardinals blank Cubs 1-0 Albert Pujols hit career homer No. 693, Jordan Montgomery pitched a one-hitter and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs 1-0 for their season-high eighth straight victory. Pujols led off the seventh with a drive to left-center for his seventh homer in his last 10 games and No. 14 overall in his final big league season. There was a noticeable round of cheers from the Wrigley Field crowd of 29,719 as the three-time NL MVP rounded the bases on his second hit of the night. That one run was all Montgomery needed. The left-hander struck out seven and walked none in his first career complete game, Royals 6, White Sox 4 – Waters breaks tie with walk, Royals beat White Sox 6-4 Drew Waters drew a bases-loaded walk to break an eighth-inning tie in his major league debut, boosting the Kansas City Royals to a 6-4 win over the Chicago White Sox in a game rescheduled because of the lockout in April. Joe Kelly, the seventh of eight White Sox pitchers, hit a pair of batters to start the inning. Ryan O’Hearn singled, and Waters drew a five-pitch walk with one out to break a 4-all tie. The White Sox rallied from a four-run deficit after their starter, Michael Kopech, exited the game having faced just four hitters. The team said he departed with left knee soreness. Today St. Louis (Wainwright 9-8) at Chicago Cubs (Assad 0-0), 2:20 p.m. – Game 1 St. Louis (Woodford 2-0) at Chicago Cubs (Sampson 1-3), 8:05 p.m. – Game 2 Chicago White Sox (Cease 12-5) at Baltimore (Voth 3-1), 7:05 p.m. San Francisco (Rodón 11-6) at Detroit (Hutchison 1-6), 7:10 p.m.        WSJM/WCSY 6:50 MLB – Cubs’ Hendricks to miss rest of season with shoulder issue Chicago Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks will not return this season after he was hampered by shoulder trouble for much of the year. Hendricks finishes with a 4-6 record and a career-high 4.80 ERA in 16 starts. The 32-year-old Hendricks says he was first diagnosed with tendinitis. But another MRI showed a capsular tear. Hendricks says the injury is from years of usage, and he doesn’t think he is going to need surgery to fix the issue. NFL – National Football League – Preseason Week 2 Last Night New York Jets 24, Atlanta Falcons 16 Jets 24, Falcons 16 – Mariota, Ridder solid for Falcons in 24-16 loss to Jets Marcus Mariota led Atlanta to scores on two of his three drives in the Falcons’ 24-16 loss against mostly New York Jets backups. Mariota strengthened his hold on the starting job by going 6 of 10 for 132 yards and a touchdown to Olamide Zaccheaus before giving way to rookie Desmond Ridder with a 10-0 lead in the second quarter. Ridder went 10 of 13 for 143 yards and leading the Falcons to two field goals in three series. Fourth-stringer Chris Streveler led the Jets on two late touchdown drives to give New York the victory. The Jets’ Bradlee Anae returned a fumble 30 yards for a score. NCAAHKY – Michigan and Ohio State to face off outside in Cleveland The University of Michigan and rival Ohio State will face off against each other in an outdoor game to be held on Saturday February 18 at First Energy Stadium in Cleveland.  The game at the home of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns will be the 9th such outdoors game for the University of Michigan and first since the 2018-19 season when they defeated Norte Dame in South Bend at Notre Dame Stadium as part of the NHL’s Winter Classic.   The two teams will face each other two days prior in Columbus.  The game was announced as the 2022-23 Big Ten hockey schedule was made public.  Michigan has a 4-2-2 record in playing outside. WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association – 2022 Playoffs – Round 1 (best of 3) Tonight Chicago Sky at New York Liberty, 9:00 p.m.                                 (Series Tied 1-1) NCAAFB – Pick Six: Critical games dot the schedule as 2022 commences The college football schedule offers a weekly selection of marquee games between top teams, and some will hit the ground running this year. Two September 3 showdowns will shuffle the preseason Top 25 quickly as No. 5 Notre Dame and new coach Marcus Freeman play at No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Georgia, the defending national champion, plays No. 11 Oregon in Atlanta. Reaching across Power Five lines ends, eventually, and then long-held bitter rivalries take over later as teams grapple for championships and bowl positioning. Here are some of the premier matchups to anticipate. NCAAFB – Transfer portal provides more hits, fewer misses for coaches Mississippi, Southern California, LSU and Nebraska were among the most active teams recruiting players from the transfer portal ahead of the college football season. Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin sought experienced players who could fill immediate needs. USC’s Lincoln Riley and LSU’s Brian Kelly went in looking for star power as they attempt quick rebuilds. Nebraska’s Scott Frost is simply trying to save his job. The top-ranked portal class belongs to Riley at USC but Kiffin is right behind at No. 2. NCAAFB – 2 Indiana State football players among 3 killed in crash Two freshman members of the Indiana State University football team were among the three students who were killed in a weekend crash. School officials said Monday that two other football team members who were injured in the crash are out of intensive care but remain hospitalized in serious condition. The crash happened at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle went off a highway and struck a tree about 10 miles from the university’s Terre Haute campus. Those killed were identified as 18-year-old Christian Eubanks of Waukegan, Illinois; 19-year-old Jayden Musili of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and 19-year-old Caleb VanHooser of Liberty Township, Ohio. Eubanks was a freshman linebacker, and VanHooser was a freshman defensive back. Gary Gaines, coach of ‘Friday Night Lights’ fame, dead at 73 Gary Gaines, coach of the Texas high school football team made famous in the book and movie “Friday Night Lights,” has died. He was 73. Gaines’ family says the former coach died in Lubbock after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Gaines made many stops in West Texas during a 30-year coaching career. He was best known for a four-year stint leading the highly successful program at Odessa Permian. His 1988 team was chronicled in Buzz Bissinger’s bestselling book. It portrayed a program that favored football over academics but had a sympathetic view of Gaines. Tennis – Tennis star Nick Kyrgios has court case adjourned to October Tennis star Nick Kyrgios has not had to appear in an Australian court when a charge of common assault was listed for the first time. The 27-year-old Kyrgios was represented by his lawyer Michael Kukulies-Smith in the Australian Capital Territory Magistrates Court. He was not required to enter a plea or apply for bail. Magistrate Louise Taylor adjourned the case to Oct. 4. Kyrgios remains in the United States preparing for the U.S. Open which begins next week. The charge relates to an incident in January 2021 that was reported to Australian Capital Territory Police in December. Australian media has reported it involves Kyrgios’ former girlfriend.

Cowboys jerseys are 25% off: http://chatsports.com/cowboysjersey The Cowboys defense wasn’t good enough in 2019. With a major overhaul coming, there are several starting and depth spots up for grabs. That includes several roster spots at DE and corner. Defensive end is a key area for the Cowboys depth chart. Demarcus Lawrence is one starter. But who is the other? Randy Gregory, Tyrone Crawford or Aldon Smith? And who else makes the Cowboys roster between Bradlee Anae, Dorance Armstong, Joe Jackson and Jalen Jelks? Cornerback lacks a legit #1 option, but there are bodies and depth. Who starts at the 3 spots between Trevon Diggs, Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, Daryl Worley and Anthony Brown? And with only a few roster spots, who gets cut between Chris Westry, Reggie Robinson, Maurice Canady and CJ Goodwin. Cowboys rumors on Trysten Hill are heating up as well. Will he make the roster? Or could the Cowboys trade him? There will be some tough roster cuts to make at several spots. Whether it is the NFL, Cowboys, movies, music, comics, food or Mixed Martial Arts, nothing is off limits on the “Best Coast Boys” podcast. After the pleasantries, the guys discuss the latest news and notes surrounding the Cowboys. First, the Cowboys discuss Chidobe Awuzie potentially switching the safety and Jaylon Smith transitioning to outside linebacker. John details what they potential moves tell us about Dallas’ future defense while Landon discusses how their skill sets could potentially fit at the new positions. The guys then discuss Mike Fisher’s tweet about how some in the organization believe Trevon Diggs could potentially be Dallas’ best corner immediately. John breaks down why this isn’t that crazy given the potential scheme changes. The guys then finish the show by taking an updated look at Dallas’ roster, by breaking things down position by position. Of note, the guys discuss rookie QB Ben DiNucci’s college film and why he has impressive upside for a 7th rounder. After lavishing the Utah LB with praise, John reveals one aspect of Bradlee Anae that does give him his concern. The guys also discuss Aldon Smith’s potentially role, a camp competition at fullback, a UDFA LB who could vie for a roster spot plus much, much more. The “Best Coast Boys” podcast will return at a future date to discuss the latest news and noted surrounding the Cowboys offseason. Join us!

Ballzy hosts Kevin Sherrington, Evan Grant and Cowboys insider David Moore go deep on the Cowboys' 2020 draft class, which was highlighted by Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and Alabama cornerback Trevon Diggs. How will Lamb fit in with an offense that already has Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup? Is Diggs already the best corner on the roster? Could Tulsa corner Reggie Robinson II play safety? How big of impact will D-linemen like Neville Gallimore of Oklahoma and Bradlee Anae of Utah have? The guys also touch on other draft moves in the NFC East, such as Philadelphia's "crazy" selection of Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts, and much more.

Readyforthedraft.com's Gregg Schutze shares his passion for the NFL draft and takes you on a journey leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft. Gregg takes a look at some of the top names at the Defensive End position for this year's draft. Of course everyone knows the game wrecker that is Chase Young and AJ Epenesa is widely considered the No. 2 DE. But Gregg really dives into the rest of the draft class as well. Yetur Gross-Matos lives in opposing backfields, using his length to quickly stack and shed blockers to set the edge against the run while Bradlee Anae is physical and underrated. Maybe the top DE not named Young or Epenesa resides in Boise. Curtis Weaver has been a consistent pass rusher for the Broncos and Gregg finds an NFL comp for Weaver. Kenny Willekes plays with tremendous effort, Alton Robinson and Carlos "Boogie" Basham, Jr. are explosive off the edge, while Joe Gaziano resembles fellow Northwesterd Wildcat and current Green Bay Packer Dean Lowry. And James Lynch may be the best DE nobody's talking about.
