One of the great paradoxes of life is that more choices don't always lead to a happier life. Never ending choices can be paralyzing. Additionally, many choices give the illusion of freedom on the front end but ultimately lead to entrapment, slavery, and devastating consequences.  As we continue our series on Knowing and Doing God's Will, today Jay takes about surprising principle: “Maximum Freedom is Found Under God's Authority”. Jay discusses how there is a beauty in God's word of eliminating the pressure of unending choices. Additionally, he shows how what may first appear restriction actually produces a greater degree of freedom. When we choose to seek and honor God's will in our lives, we are free from many of the devastating consequences of sin, including disease, regret, and destructive relationships. By submitting ourselves to the authority of God's word and limiting our choices to those God permits, we experience a far greater joy and satisfaction in life, as well as the anticipation of eternal reward for a life that's pleasing to God.  Resources mentioned: The Paradox of Choice: Why More is Less by Barry Schwartz https://amzn.to/45qZ8ub The Seven Checkpoints for Youth Leaders by Andy Stanley: https://amzn.to/3ICSfw1 Decision Making and the Will of God https://amzn.to/3otDepG Support Let's Parent on Purpose through your Tax Deductible Giving Join my Things for Thursday Email List and get a free Marriage Snapshot Tool and Fun Family Conversation Ebook! For this episode of OTNS, Primavera and I spoke to Eric Alston (@IncompleteRules), a researcher at Block Science  and Scholar-in-Residence at the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder, focused on the study of institutions, namely property, constitutions and blockchains. During the interview we spoke about formal vs inform institutions, organizational complexity, and the issues of maximum freedom.Overthrowing the Network State (OTNS) is a series in collaboration with Blockchaingov where we critique The Network State  by Balaji Srinivasan while also pulling out the salvageable parts and concepts in discussion with a variety of guests. We are overall critical of Balaji's specific ideas in the book, but we want to discuss it with intellectual honesty and highlight the larger concepts around how these technologies are and could subvert state structures. You can find the first episode of OTNS where we give our initial criticisms and  alternatives here.Blockchaingov is a 5-year long, transdisciplinary research effort aimed at restoring trust in institutions at the community and global levels, by promoting better on chain and off chain distributed governance practices. How is Covid-19 affecting the real estate industry? In today's episode of Passion for Real Estate Investments, COO of National Real Estate Investors Association, Charles Tassell, talks about the state of the real estate industry during the Covid-19 pandemic. From working on public policies and legislation, to serving on national boards, to being a Deer Park, Ohio Council Member, Charles has spent a significant amount of time affecting change through his many successes. For over 20 years, Charles has been working on public policies, advising policy development for multiple municipalities, counties, and states. He has extensive experience in real estate policy development, where he has served on local and international panels on issues including crime, environmental issues, foreclosures, and even dealing with methamphetamine labs. In 2015, Charles founded the non-profit, Street Rescue. He is currently also a campaign consultant, a Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Elder, and serves as a board member for COAST, and Maximum Freedom, Inc. How does Charles see the real estate industry playing out during the Covid-19 pandemic? We hear his thoughts on the Rent Strike, and he makes some predictions about certain real estate markets. He tells us about the many opportunities that are available for entrepreneurs to expand their business during the pandemic, and how REIAs are helping people cope with the shock of the current economic situation. If you're looking for ways to improve your business, or you want to get involved with your local REIA, this episode will point you in the right direction. Highlights from the interview * “For anybody who wants to be an entrepreneur, real estate gives you an option to grow, and to grow beyond anything you can do in a JOB.” * “Not paying rent, or doing a rent strike, is actually not paying essential workers.” * “We're living virtually. This is a great time to improve your skills technologically.” * “Wealth is more than just the dollar amounts.” * Charles is down to 120 units from 232 units, and there's a good reason why. “Buy when everyone else is selling. Sell when everyone else is buying… Everybody's buying right now.”

Welcome to Gratitude:UnFiltered AM “Freedom” I am your host @Joshua T Berglan and thank you for being here… On this broadcast, we discuss finding gratitude in our inventory, the true power in obedience and more! Maximum Freedom “For years, I believed God was working against my personal freedom. I pictured Him as a divine Lawgiver who spent the majority of His time creating new ways to further restrict my liberty. Statements such as the one found in Galatians 5:1 made little sense to me: “It was for freedom that Christ set us free.” I would read them over and over and wonder why, if Christ came to set us free, I felt like such a slave. Then one day when I was reading Genesis, a thought popped into my mind: Adam and Eve had only one rule (Gen. 2:17). Imagine living in a world where there was only one rule! The implications are astounding. Most significant, however, is the fact that in the perfect environment, where God had everything just the way He wanted it, He issued only one “thou shalt not.” To put it another way, God’s not a God of rules. Our God is a God of freedom. In the beginning, He placed the first man and woman in a beautiful garden and for all practical purposes said, “You’re free to enjoy yourselves.” “So,” you may ask, “why all the moral and ethical taboos now?” The answer is found in Genesis 3. Our earliest ancestors did the very thing they were told not to do and so opened the door for sin to enter the world. And with sin came death. Thus, humanity became a slave to sin and death. Whereas our world teaches that freedom is gained by throwing off all restraint, Scripture teaches us that the opposite is true. Human beings forfeited a great deal of freedom in an attempt to gain absolute freedom. As we begin to put two and two together, it becomes increasingly clear that freedom is gained and maintained by adherence to God’s laws. Just as a good father sets loving limitations for his children, so our heavenly Father sets moral and ethical perimeters for us. Once again, the bottom line is trust. Can we trust God knows what’s best for us? Can we believe He really has our best interests in mind? Adam and Eve didn’t. And they lost the very freedom they were convinced their sin would ensure them. What about you? Are you willing to accept that God is a God of freedom—that His laws are for your protection, given to ensure and not hamper your freedom? If so, take a few moments to surrender to God the areas over which you’ve maintained control. Confess your lack of faith, then rest in the assurance God will grant you the maximum amount of freedom available in this sinful world.” Dr. Charles Stanley Gratitude:UnFiltered AM is an extension of the host, Joshua T Berglan’s quiet time and what he is studying in preparing for his Saturday Night talk show. Gratitude:UnFiltered AM is meant to inspire, intrigue and ignite your passion for the day ahead to aid you in reaching your destiny.

Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective

You boys like Mexico? As the sequel is about to hit theaters, we revist an old classic (that hasn't aged well), Super Troopers. Five Vermont state troopers, avid pranksters with a knack for screwing up, try to save their jobs and out-do the local police department by solving a crime. Super Troopers is a 2001 American crime-comedy film directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, written by and starring the Broken Lizard comedy group (Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske). Marisa Coughlan, Daniel von Bargen and Brian Cox co-star while Lynda Carter has a cameo appearance. We hope you enjoy this episode that takes a fairly dark turn and mixes in a few quotable lines. We go lion-hunting in Tsavo with Country Sam of the Living Country in the City Podcast and talk the 1996 Val Kilmer flick, the Ghost and the Darkness. This is our third Kilmer movie we've done, and second in a row - so one might think we have a Val-fetish, and you would be correct. It won't be the last one we do with him in it. In 1896, a construction engineer from the British Army, J.H. Patterson (Kilmer) is sent to build a railway bridge across Uganda's Tsavo River for the British East African Railway. Soon after he arrives, workmen begin to disappear at night from their tents never to be seen alive again. The engineer soon discovers that a pair of man-eating lions are stalking around the bridge and campsites, killing the workmen for food. He tries a number of different methods to get rid of them, but the beasts always seem to know what Patterson is doing and avoid being shot. After 30 men have been killed Patterson's boss recruits a hunter, Charles Remington (Douglas) to hunt down and destroy the lions. The Tsavo Man-Eaters were a pair of man-eating Tsavo lions responsible for the deaths of a number of construction workers on the Kenya-Uganda Railway from March through December 1898. The significance of this pair of lions was their unusual behavior, such as the number of men killed and the manner of the attacks. RothbardMurray Rothbard was the master of reducing complicated theories to their very essence while retaining theoretical rigor, and this essay is a case in point. It was originally written in 1969 and published in the form of a tiny book that achieved a huge circulation. Its continued relevance speaks to an aspect of the Austrian theory that other theories can't boast. It is a real theory that applies across time and place, and its persuasive power is not contingent on the particulars of any individual boom-bust cycle.Narrated by Harold Fritsche. We discuss the narrative that Idiocracy is currently viewed as a prescient documentary that foretold today's events regarding Trump being elected President. We argue that this may be true, but not in the way that they think. It is the echo-chamber of social media that allowed people to be blindsided to the Trump-phenomenon and the current attack on "fake news" is only going to double-down on the problem and compound it. This is a pretty fun one that feels like we really hit our stride. Also, apparently I was not quite right about the water being the only thing that expands. A few more things do...but it's RARE PEOPLE!Gallium is a liquid at 85.6 degrees Fahrenheit and expands as it freezes, according to Chemicool. The four other elements that expand when they freeze are silicon, bismuth, antimony and germanium. However, gallium is the only element out of those five that has a melting point near room temperature. For Show Notes and more, please visit: http://www.readrothbard.com/Episode-30Presented by Read Rothbard:Read Rothbard is comprised of a small group of voluntaryists who are fans of Murray N. "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled, was convincing the world that he didn't exist." As it is with Verbal Kint in the Usual Suspects, the true evil is just under your nose for the entire film. He engenders himself to the detectives with requests for help, saying he likes cops, spinning yarns, all to distract from the monster beneath. This is much the same way that the government presents itself as a provider of safety and security, what is needed for a civil society - yet it is the largest transgressor upon life and liberty; creating the most pollution, destruction, mayhem and murder in the history of the world. So, at least that's our take on the message from the Usual Suspects.
