Today on the show we have director, writer, comedian, and actor Jay Chandrasekhar has contributed to and appeared in a wide variety of critically acclaimed television programs and films throughout his career.Chandrasekhar assembled the sketch comedy troupe Broken Lizard, which includes Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske. Together they performed comedy across the nation until they set their sights on producing television and feature films.Under his Broken Lizard banner, Jay directed and co-wrote Fox Searchlight Picture's comedy cult classics Super Troopers, Super Troopers 2, Club Dread, and Warner Bros' Beerfest. He also directed the Broken Lizard comedy special, Broken Lizard Stands Up.Super Troopers hit theaters in February 2002 and went on to gross $23 million with glowing audience reviews (and $80 million on home video.)Jay continued on to direct The Dukes of Hazard, direct and star in Millennium Entertainment's The Babymakers, and appear in DreamWorks' comedy hit, I Love You, Man. Recently, Chandrasekhar published his book, Mustache Shenanigans: Making Super Troopers and Other Adventures in Comedy that gives a behind the scenes look at the making of Super Troopers. In addition to his feature film work, Chandrasekhar has directed various TV shows, including several episodes of the Emmy Award winning series Arrested Development, Community, Chuck, The Grinder, Up All Night, Happy Endings, New Girl, and Psych. More recently, Jay has also directed episodes of Fresh Off the Boat, The Goldbergs, Speechless, and Schooled. His new film is Easter Sunday.Stand-up comedy sensation Jo Koy (Jo Koy: In His Elements, Jo Koy: Comin' in Hot) stars as a man returning home for an Easter celebration with his riotous, bickering, eating, drinking, laughing, loving family, in this love letter to his Filipino-American community. Easter Sunday features an all-star comedic cast that includes Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley series), Tia Carrere (True Lies, Wayne's World films), Brandon Wardell (Curb Your Enthusiasm series), Tony nominee Eva Noblezada (Broadway's Hadestown), Lydia Gaston (Broadway's The King and I), Asif Ali (WandaVision), Rodney To (Parks and Recreation series), Eugene Cordero (The Good Place series), Jay Chandrasekhar (I Love You, Man), Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and Lou Diamond Phillips (Courage Under Fire). Easter Sunday, from DreamWorks Pictures, is directed by Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers, The Dukes of Hazzard), from a script by Ken Cheng (series Wilfred, Betas). The film is produced by Rideback's Dan Lin (The Lego Movie franchise, It franchise) and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin, The Two Popes), and is executive produced by Jo Koy, Jessica Gao, Jimmy O. Yang, Ken Cheng, Joe Meloche, Nick Reynolds and Seth William Meier. The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures domestically. Amblin Partners and Universal will share international distribution rights.Jay also just launched a new app designed to give the power of reviews back to the people. It's call Vouch Vault."When my film, Super Troopers, showed at Sundance, it played to big laughing crowds. But when it was released to the public, the reviews were only so-so. On Rotten Tomatoes, Super Troopers, got a 38%-fresh aggregate score from less than a hundred reviewers. With the public, though, the film garnered a 90% fresh rating from more than 250,000 non-reviewers. This 38% reviewer-number stuck in my craw. I remember thinking, “Who are these reviewers, these strangers with outsized power, and why are we listening to them? Seriously. When's the last time you walked up to a stranger and said, “Hey, what movie should I see?”Our goal with Vouch Vault is to take recommendation power from anonymous strangers and give it to the people whose tastes you know and trust."

Seriously. When's the last time you walked up to a stranger and said, “Hey, what movie should I see?”Our goal with Vouch Vault is to take recommendation power from anonymous strangers and give it to the people whose tastes you know and trust."Enjoy my conversation with Jay Chandrasekhar.

While you might not know Erik Stolhanske by name alone, you're surely aware of his work with Broken Lizard. The comedy troupe—of which Stolhanske is one-fifth—is responsible for such cult comedy classics as Super Troopers, Beerfest, Club Dread, and The Slammin' Salmon. A few weeks after the release of Super Troopers 2, Stolhanske came to Milwaukee to perform at Turner Hall. Prior to his show, Stolhanske met host Tyler Maas in a hotel lobby to discuss his latest film, the inner workings of Broken Lizard, memorable moments from set, and his Midwestern roots. The actor and comedian also opened up about growing up with a wooden leg, how his childhood obstacle helped develop his personality and inform his sense of humor, and how everyone has their own "wooden leg" to overcome. This episode is brought to you by Surly Brewing, a Minnesota-based brewery and the official beer of On The Record. Music used in this episode comes courtesy of Piles ("Blue Glue") and Slow Walker ("Shades Of Ganymede").

Today on The Neil Haley Show, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Jay Chandraskhar and Kevin Heffernan of Super Troopers 2. It's no coincidence that this film is being released on 4/20! It's been 17 years since the original Super Troopers film was released but the original gang is back: Jay Chandraskhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske aka The Broken Lizard Comedy Team. These guys wrote and starred in the first one and are back on double duty for the second as well. Jay Chandraskhar is actually a triple threat as he is also back in the directors chair! This time around the story line is as current as it could be: "After an international border dispute arises between U.S. and Canada, five wacky state troopers set up a new highway patrol station in the disputed area of Canada." There are some big names appearing this time around including Lynda Carter, Rob Lowe, Fred Savage, Jim Gaffigan, Brian Cox, and Emmanuelle Chriqui from Entourage!

Kevin Heffernan (Farva) and Erik Stolhanske (Rabbit) join the show to talk about making Supertroopers 2, what its like to work in a creative relationship with 5 guys for over 15 years, what was their "made it moment", and we workshop some Adam Sandler movie ideas (24:12 - 58:58). Segments include Trouble in Paradise for Tom Brady, Talking Soccer Zoltan fucks, NASA Update and Whoa. That is the end of the show and there is no extra part of this show after Take On Me so you don't have to keep listening to the totally random 10 minutes afterwards, it's probably just silence anyway (PMB).
Huge new episode of ITP with Reid and Stefan. Interviews with Rabbit from the meow movie Super Troopers 2, Erik Stolhanske; Former Saskatchewan Roughrider QB Reggie Slack; Rocket guy Waldo Steaks.
Two weeks ago, the guys from Broken Lizard came to Boston to hand out doughnuts and coffee to a bunch of appreciative fans to promote their new movie, Super Troopers 2, which is out this Friday, April 20. The guys were there for nearly two hours, taking pictures with fans and signing everything from DVDs and beat up old VHS copies of the original film to baseballs and bottles of maple syrup. When that was winding down, I got to speak with Erik Stolhanske and Steve Lemme about the sequel, and the legacy of the original film. What added an extra level of fun to this was that sixteen years earlier, I had covered the troupe when they originally previewed Super Troopers in Boston. I interviewed them back then on their tour bus – Boston was the 18th stop on their college tour. I reminded them of that, and they had a couple of memories of their trip here. I dug up that tape, so after the most recent interview, you'll get a couple snippets of Broken Lizard from February of 2002. It is an actual cassette tape, so I had to clean it up, but there is a bit of tape noise leftover.
Super Troopers 2 comes out April 20th and Erik Stolhanske who plays Rabbit in Super Troopers joins the show! Stolhanske talks about what fans can expect from Super Troopers 2, how we got started with Broken Lizard and more!
Actual Anarchy Podcast - AnCap Movie Reviews from a Rothbardian Perspective
You boys like Mexico? As the sequel is about to hit theaters, we revist an old classic (that hasn't aged well), Super Troopers. Five Vermont state troopers, avid pranksters with a knack for screwing up, try to save their jobs and out-do the local police department by solving a crime. Super Troopers is a 2001 American crime-comedy film directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, written by and starring the Broken Lizard comedy group (Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske). Marisa Coughlan, Daniel von Bargen and Brian Cox co-star while Lynda Carter has a cameo appearance. We hope you enjoy this episode that takes a fairly dark turn and mixes in a few quotable lines. Don't call me Radio. Show notes: http://www.actualanarchy.com/72 Thank you for joining us on this episode of the Actual Anarchy Podcast! The Actual Anarchy Podcast is all about Maximum Freedom. Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/Anarcho-Capitalist perspective. If it's voluntary, we're cool with it. If it's not, then it violated the Non-Aggression Principle and Property Rights - the core tenants of Libertarian Theory - and hence - human freedom. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish new episodes on Sunday just in time for your Monday commute; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics). “I never wanted anything to stop me. Not even having a wooden leg.”- Erik StolhanskeErik Stolhanske is an actor, writer and producer probably best known for his role as ‘Rabbit' in Super Troopers 1 and 2. And if you're one of the many P90X junkies like me, you might also remember Erik as the guy with the prosthesis in the plyometrics video (yes…the guy with a wooden leg in the jumping workout!). No matter his role (and he has a lot), Erik always brings his unstoppable mindset and a tenacity to pursue the most challenging goals, no matter the obstacles. And given Erik was born with only one leg, he's had to overcome a lot.Whether you are battling a physical, mental, emotional, or circumstantial disadvantage in your life, this episode will leave you feeling empowered to go after your own S.T.U.P.I.D. goals (and you'll learn all about what that means). If you've ever felt as if a specific disability in your life has been sabotaging you from achieving the life you dream of, you're going to love Erik's advice on how to not only to accept your disability (and yes, we ALL have one) but how to turn it into your superpower.Erik will teach you how to better respond to every ‘no' you encounter in your life (whether it's coming from yourself or others) and frame it positively. We'll discuss Erik's ‘red light, green light' game (and you'll get to witness me in the hot seat) that is an exercise geared towards not only building resilience against the word ‘no', but learning how to use it to activate new ideas, and you'll also hear the inspiring story of how Super Troopers took a decade to become a reality. This is a light-hearted and humorous conversation that will no doubt leave you feeling inspired to make whatever the ‘wooden leg' is in your life your superpower.Want to Hear More Episodes Like This One?» Click here to subscribe and never miss another episode Here's What You'll Learn:Erik's story of what it was like growing up as a child with a wooden legThe mindset it takes to aim for toughest goals in life when you have a disabilityKEY TAKEAWAY: Everyone has a disability or something holding us back, but instead of letting that stop us we can find acceptance and even learn to use it as our superpowerWhy you shouldn't believe you can actually do anything you set your mind toKEY TAKEAWAY: You are going to fail in life, and that's okThe rise in “Toxic Positivity” and how it's affecting us all negativelyWhat it means to set S.T.U.P.I.D. goals (and why we should all be doing it)How the movie Super Troopers went from an Independent Film to a Blockbuster hitThe two things it actually takes to reach your loftiest goals (neither of which is luck)The difference between a challenge and a disabilityThe one thing it takes to embrace your disability and make it your superpowerWhy Erik originally wanted to hide his wooden leg, and what happened to change thatThe story of how Erik got on p90x and how it helped him embrace his disabilityKEY TAKEAWAY: The only way to get big results is to go for big goals (and embrace big failures)How to make hearing ‘No' a positive moment that only leads to more growthWhat the game “red light, green light” is, and how you can playUseful Resources Mentioned:P90XEric StolhanskeRed Light Green Light GameContinue to Listen & LearnEp165: How to Overcome Doubting Yourself When You Know You're Meant For More | with Sandy Zimmerman, ANWEp06: Defining Your Purpose and Living Large | with Tony HortonEp60: Getting 1% Better Every Single Day | with Westley Silvestri, ANWEp67: How to Be 'Better Than Yesterday' | With Jimmy Choi, ANWEp162: Stop Waiting For Permission to Make Sh*t Happen | with Mark GanttEp161: Managing Limiting Beliefs, Imposter Syndrome, and all the “Chatter” In Our Heads | with Ethan KrossEp55: How Tiny Changes Can Create Remarkable Results | with James ClearEp132: How to Pursue Fulfilling Work and Find Your ‘Calling' | with Dr. Tal Ben-ShaharEp183: Pushing Yourself to Your Limits (When Quitting isn't an Option) | with Evan PerperisEp173: How to Reinvent Yourself at Any Age (And Become Badass) | with Scott MorganGuest Bio: Erik Stolhanske Erik Stolhanske is a Hollywood comedian, actor, writer, producer, and member of the Broken Lizard Comedy Group.
