In today’s episode of the ‘Sales Samurai’ podcast, host Sam Capra, who helps marketing leaders in the retail space go beyond the sale/transaction, talks with guest Sarah, sharing the best practices to get your team using it and maximizing the solution for them. Episode Highlights 01:55 – Sarah shares, she started working with a bunch of start-ups and a lot of her role within those start-ups was implementing CRMs and getting them set up with them. 03:43 – Sam enquires from Sarah if she has a very broad spectrum from a sales perspective, and what made her start in sales. 05:40 – There's a lot of value in starting at a more established organization, says Sam. 07:25 – Sam asks Sarah if she is seeing the space getting more crowded in the CRM? 09:39 – CRM has always been the necessary evil, and that should be the foundational tool of any sales organization, mentions Sam. 11:00 – There are so many different ways and methods to keep track of your contact information. So finding the right tool for you and your company is important. 13:04 - Sarah highlights, it's important to think about what is your current process looks like, and what potentially is it going to look like a month or even a year from now? 14:49 – If you move to a new tool with the same types of processes and behaviors, you probably are going to end up at the same place, says Sarah 17:25 – It would be great if the flow of data, and where it is coming from can be stored into your CRM, but it doesn't necessarily mean that your team has to be working out of it constantly, it depends on what you need. 21:40 – Sarah points out that there is a reason why user adoption is lower because the users get overwhelmed by the amount of data that's in there. They don't know what they're supposed to update. 23:11 – A lot of sales leaders will stick to a field because they think that they need it. 26:00 – Sarah states, standardization is trying to keep things aligned across the system. 28:25 – Inefficiencies in redundancies if you don't standardize it leads to that drop off from an adaption and those challenging conversations probably with your sales team, states Sam. 31:54 – Sarah highlights, regular conversations, and check-ins are also very important because you implement something in one way doesn't mean it's going to stay that way. 32:22 – A lot of times CRMs are implemented and managed by IT teams or leadership, that's fine, and it's great. However, you do need to have the voice of the everyday user constantly, mentions Sarah. 34:31 - When you initially roll something out, it's easy to create something, but then it can be hard to remember to go back and update those materials. 35:41 - If you're going to document that you got to keep up with the documentation to make sure it's up to date. 37:22 - If everybody is using it, then everybody is going to naturally have that feedback and those types of conversations with each other. 40:10 - If it's implemented and used correctly, then you can see that in the long term. Three Key Points When you're rolling out initially, there are two buckets, first is, rolling it out initially and making people aware of how to use it, what this tool is, where things go, why it goes there, or what this field is used for. Then the other piece of it is what the feedback loop is? Is it working the right way? Do we need to switch this? What do we need to do here? Sarah says she is always on the side of getting everybody on to the CRM and getting everybody involved and trying to get everybody's workflows built-in there because it's not a sales tool anymor

Dan Moore is the President of Vistadash, an automotive analytics company that helps dealers understand what metrics are contributing to actual growth. Dan is also a best-selling author and Ted-X speaker who has a unique set of skills that can help any organization understand and deploy strategies that will achieve defined outcomes. What we discuss in this episode: Without defined outcomes, it's easy to mistake tactics for strategy. A bunch of tactics, widgets, and gadgets are elements of a strategy but do not make up the strategy itself. The sooner that dealers understand that every supplier has its own outcomes to achieve, the sooner dealers can understand how a supplier's services will help map or detract from their desired targets. History in retail automotive shows that most dealers try and buy their way out of operational inefficiencies. It's easily recognized by the number of suppliers that dealerships usually work with in order to achieve small gains that might be possible without them. There is a lot of noise getting in the way. A lot of hype. It's okay to start small when developing a strategy. Dan Moore explains that it can be as simple as some sticky notes and markers and making a list of all the friction points that currently exist in the business. Some might be operational, departmental, or human resources, for example. Once dealers have a clear picture of their current circumstances, then it's possible to move on to defining the desired outcome — the goal that they hope to achieve and by what deadline. It's easy in this day and age to see the perceived success of others and to subconsciously start living their life. That never leads to fulfillment and happiness because you've unknowingly abandoned your definition of success. Enjoying your career in retail automotive is about more than just defining success, though. It's about accepting what you've defined. Because we see what others are doing, and haven't taken a hard look in the mirror, we're often left with a void in our own happiness. That's often what leads us to think we need to keep up with others' achievements instead of taking the time to define and work toward our own. Casting, drifting, swinging and stripping -- everything else is downtime. As Paul said, “Brother, there are no flying fish in Montana” — or anywhere else, for that matter.Flies in the water — that's where we want them. A trout at the end of the line. That's what we're aiming for. But there are seemingly endless tasks required for a fishing trip. And how we approach those chores really defines the way our day will go — simply because our fly is either in the water . . . or it's not.How we prepare the night before, our system for carrying tippet, our strategy for choosing the next fly, and even what we do with the net after releasing a trout — what we do with our time on the water . . . matters. And all of us experience that nagging feeling that something is amiss, that so much more is possible, on those days when we know that we are inefficient.Fly fishing is for the pragmatist. Successful anglers see failure and make the changes to turn it around. And no matter what our natural tendencies — whether we're a neat freak or a slob at home and at work, the river quickly teaches us that the only way forward is through efficiency. So every long term angler that I know becomes efficient, even if they weren't born that way.In this episode, I'm joined tonight by my fishing friends, Trevor Smith, Bill Dell, Austin Dando and Matt Grobe. We Cover the FollowingFinding a system. Chris joins David to discuss his fund, the 1851 Capital Emerging Companies Fund. Since inception in Feb 2020 till Dec 2021, the fund had produced a compound growth rate of 33% p.a. Chris explains why he believes that the small-cap sector is the most inefficient part of the market, where fund managers can deliver the largest amount of outperformance to clients. He attributes much of this to the lack of broker coverage when compared to larger-cap counterparts. Chris and David also discuss the methodology that 1851 applies when analysing businesses and their management. Chris identifies the importance of even the smaller details when interviewing senior leadership teams, such as the subtleties of body language. Working for more than 18 years in the Australian funds management industry, Chris has extensive experience investing in Australian equities. Most recently, Chris was the Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager at Wilson Asset Management Pty Limited (WAM) During his tenure as Chief Investment Officer at WAM, group funds under management (FUM) grew from $300 million to over $3 billion. In 2014, the Australian Financial Review named Chris as one of the Five Best Young Fund Managers in Australia.

In this episode, Steve Fretzin, Margaret Burke, and Casey Blake discuss:Inefficiencies in technology and financial management in law firms. Daily inefficiency improvements. What happens when you wear too many hats. Your law firm as a business.  Key Takeaways:Anyone considering working with you, not just clients, are looking at your website. Make sure it is supporting what you want people to know. Having a diverse team, with mixed speciality areas, can assist you in better supporting and understanding your clients. Fix problems, don't just cover them with a bandaid. Taking all the work on yourself, is only a bandaid. Remote Collaboration, Tech Efficiency, and Career Journeys. In this episode of The Outspoken Podcast, host Shana Cosgrove talks to Lauren Lockwood, Founder & Principal, Bloom Works LLC, and Emily Wright-Moore, Principal at Bloom Works LLC. Lauren and Emily give their insight on the very real effects of outdated vital government services and what can be done to mitigate those effects. They also discuss their very different paths that led them to starting Bloom and why following their passion has been so powerful. Lauren and Emily also reveal their favorite projects with Bloom and how those projects reflect Bloom's mission. Finally, we hear what they wanted to be when they grew up, combating ageism and sexism within tech, and their advice to their younger selves! QUOTES “One of my favorite moments in a meeting was early on, working with the state. Me, Emily, and this other woman show up for our first meeting with their team to redesign some of their systems. The people from this agency walk in and the Commissioner is a woman, her deputy is a woman... they sit down with us, and they were so relieved that we weren't just a team of dudes walking into the room.” - Lauren Lockwood [50:10] “I feel like we default to this specialist mindset. And I think being a generalist is pretty, pretty great. I like knowing a lot of things and I like pulling in a lot of past jobs and past skills. So I feel like I would just stop worrying about that. Like, it's fine” - Emily Wright-Moore [52:33] “Switching careers is not a failure, I don't think. I think it is like you learned a lot and it was good for that time, but not necessarily forever. Think of this time as an exploratory time, rather than a first step on a journey.” - Lauren Lockwood [53:14]   TIMESTAMPS  [00:04] Intro [01:43] Meet Lauren Lockwood and Emily Wright-Moore [02:11] How Lauren and Emily met [03:04] What is Digital Transformation? My guest today is Dave Girouard, co-founder and CEO of Upstart, a lending platform that leverages AI to make loans more accessible and affordable. Dave started in Silicon Valley as a Product Manager at Apple and later spent eight years at Google, where he built their suite of cloud apps. In our discussion, we cover the lessons Dave has learned about building speed into a habit, the intricacies of training an AI model to predict the future, and what it was like to start a fintech business as an outsider. We also discuss the past, present, and future of lending, why Dave and his team have no plans to build a super app and the differences between public and private market investors from a founder's perspective. One of the tropes you hear these days is that lending has become a customer acquisition tool for FinTechs, but as Dave explains, the market and opportunity set in lending itself should not be underestimated. Most of us don't know that canned lights are one of the biggest wasters in our home. It is an open pathway for air to go from your attic into your house and it is not just warm unconditioned air that is coming in but also dust. A skilled home owner can be able to fix those gaps on his own but for those who can't they can just hire professionals to do it. On this episode of Allocation Disorder, Paul and Sam dive into Inter Miami’s strange Designated Player situation, talk through various market inefficiencies within MLS, and highlight a pair of big signings in LA and Atlanta. Then, towards the end of the show, they touch on CCL. In case you’re wondering, Paul is still squarely aboard the Portland Timbers’ CCL train - he did stop just short of saying "choo, choo", sadly. Ari Paul is the co-founder and chief investment officer of BlockTower Capital, a crypto and blockchain investment firm he started alongside Matthew Goetz in 2017 with backing from Andreesen Horowitz and Union Square Ventures. He started his career as a trader at Susquehanna International Group, and later found his way to the University of Chicago endowment as a portfolio manager, overseeing an internal hedge fund portfolio and assessing risk for the university’s $8 billion endowment.   Our conversation covers Ari’s early lessons in trading, discovery of crypto while at University of Chicago endowment, obstacles for institutional participation, and launch of BlockTower in 2017 as a result.  We discuss active management in the crypto markets, research and trading, portfolio construction, opportunities in NFTs and gaming, risks, and the exciting landscape over the coming years.   While this episode concludes our current mini-series, we’ve just scratched the surface on crypto, blockchain protocols, and institutional engagement in the space. In the coming months, we’ll dive deeper into the evolving ecosystem with more key participants and ideas.
