Detective novel by Agatha Christie (1934)
POPULARITY
It's a film made for TV that takes the spotlight in this episode of Film Stories, as 1984's terrifying post-apocalyptic Threads moves into the limelight. A film made on a very tight budget, and shot in under three weeks, it was nearly derailed entirely by an American TV production around the same time. And when it did get made and was screened? Well, traffic wardens have never looked so chilling. 20th Century Fox meanwhile had plans for a remake of Agatha Christie's Murder On The Orient Express.. When Kenneth Branagh joined, he not only had a decision about facial hair to make, but there was also the challenge of a very large cast with very few days together. Stories of both are told in this episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This episode originally broadcast on September 19, 2024. The original podcast post is here: https://pixelatedgeek.com/2024/09/binary-system-podcast-425-wtnv-254-the-triangle/ Alejandra Nuñez, Ronnie Sharma, and Nanako Barnes of Mr. Prescott's 5th Period AP English Class - the protectors of Night Vale otherwise known as the Library Tweens - have decided that they DON'T want to be known as the Library Tweens anymore. They need a new name, something with a little more staying power. This is gonna take some market research, focus groups, and a lot of social media posting. Which means they don't really have time to, y'know, do any protecting while this is going on. Town being terrorized by spectral cattle rustlers stealing everyone's cows? You're on your own. After the recap, the Binary System Podcast team continues to dazzle the world by catching up on things. Elizabeth's finished the final episode of The Umbrella Academy, Kathryn's almost midway through season 3 of Mayor of Kingstown, and they're both watching (and enjoying the heck out of) more Star Trek: Lower Decks. And that's quite an accomplishment considering - as you can tell from this episode - they have trouble with counting things. And remembering names. And trying to frikkin pronounce words correctly. Anyone else have trouble with the world "rustlers"? Just me? Okay then. This week's outro is a clip from My Hover Car by TeknoAXE. For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Giovanni Lago & Brendan Hodges to discuss the latest film from Kenneth Branagh, his third Agatha Christie adaptation, "A Haunting In Venice" starring Branagh, Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Dornan, Kelly Reilly, Camille Cotton, Jude Hill & Riccardo Scmarcio. With a gothic horror twist on the whodunnit genre, Branagh reprises his role as Hercule Poirot for a third time, but after the mixed to negative reactions to "Murder On The Orient Express" and "Death On The Nile," what did we think of this latest one from the Academy Award-winning filmmaker? Tune in as we discuss the themes, ensemble, visual aesthetics, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you, and enjoy! "A Haunting In Venice" is now playing in theaters and marks the third Agatha Christie adaptation by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Kenneth Branagh, who returns for the third time as the world's greatest detective, Hercule Poirot. With an all-star cast that includes Tina Fey, Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Dornan, Kelly Reilly, Camille Cotton, Jude Hill & Riccardo Scmarcio, the film cleverly takes Christie's 1969 novel "Hallowe'en Party" and gives it enough fresh twists to help it stand out from "Murder On The Orient Express" and "Death On The Nile." Below, you will find a series of interviews conducted with some of the film's crew, including Academy Award-winning composer Hildur Guđnadóttir, production designer John Paul Kelly, cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos and the CEO of the Agatha Christie Estate, the great-grandson of Agatha Christie and Executive Producer James Pritchard. Please take a moment to listen to these interviews and check out the film, which is now playing in theaters from 20th Century Studios. Thank you, and enjoy! Is there a secret to crafting a good Kenneth Branagh movie? To tackle this mystery, Case and Sam are joined by Melissa Meli from the Amateur Detective Club podcast. Will they get to the bottom of the “Murder on the Orient Express”?
When a murder occurs of an American tycoon on the luxurious Orient Express train on which he's traveling, detective Hercule Poirot is recruited to solve the case. But does solving the murder really close the case, especially for Poirot's conscience? It's been said that murder mysteries satisfy our need to feel that there is justice in the world and a moral order, which is expressed in the character of Agatha Christie's genius detective Hercule Poirot. In episode 16 we talk about three film/tv movie adaptations and themes of Agatha Christie's 1934 novel MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS: The 1974 film, directed by Sidney Lumet, as a story of revenge and vigilante justice. The 2010 film (for the Poirot television series directed by Philip Martin), a story of a murder perpetrated by persons who feel that the rule of law and even God have failed to deliver justice. Kenneth Branagh's 2017 film where Hercule Poirot describes the crime of murder as an act carried out by “wounded souls,” and concludes that the scales of justice cannot always be evenly weighed. Spoiler Alert: Some of the suspects and conclusions are revealed. Kenneth Branagh's second Hercule Poirot movie, "Death on the Nile," is now out on Blu-ray and streaming and that makes this the perfect moment to discuss just how wonderful the films are.
Hello loyal listeners, after a slight hiatus we are back and busier than ever. It feels like we are always playing catchup these days and episodes, this is no exception, but hopefully the last of these for a bit. The February movie haul is here with the latest in a beautiful looking adaptation series of the amazing author Agatha Christie. First we had Murder on the Orient Express in 2017 and in 2022 we are back with Death on the Nile. Is Gal Gadot enough to keep this movie afloat. To round out the February movies list, it is another in a long line of video game adaptations. Last year we had both Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. With a new year brings another chance to break the stigma, I've seen plenty of these and none have really blown the doors off the cinema industry. I love the Uncharted franchise as much as the Assassin's Creed games. And even with the more out of left field casting of both Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, I get that it is an origin story and the real question is will this movie be for die-hard's of the franchise, average movie-goer's, or both? Well let's check both of these out together and see if either packs the punch they set out to do. And if you want to catch up with the poll's and other things we are putting out, you know where to find it all! Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Tik Tok, and more on @NickNack_IC and @NickNackMovies!!!
3D printing Boba's Gun, Murder on the Orient Express, Resident Evil movie, and Chrono Cross comes to modern platforms.
For our main podcast review this week, Ema Sasic, Josh Parham, Dan Bayer & Daniel Howat joined me to discuss Kenneth Branagh's "Death On The Nile" starring Kenneth Branagh, Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders & Letitia Wright. This is Kenneth Branagh's second time directing an Agatha Christie murder-mystery novel after "Murder On The Orient Express." How does this adaptation compare? What did we think of the ensemble, and most importantly, was there enough champagne to fill the Nile? Tune in below to find out our thoughts and enjoy!
