Career Diversity: Crafting Saudi's Music FuturePaul Pacifico's journey to becoming the CEO of the Music Commission of Saudi Arabia is a tale of diverse experiences shaping an ideal role. With a background that spans from banking to music, Paul's multifaceted career has perfectly positioned him for this unique challenge. He mentions, “It requires all of the expertise from everything I've ever done in my life. Whether that's from music or outside music,” highlighting the value of a varied career path in reaching such pivotal roles.Vision 2030: Reshaping Saudi's Cultural SceneThe Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is undergoing a seismic shift in its cultural landscape, driven by Vision 2030. This ambitious plan aims for economic diversification and a vibrant societal overhaul. Paul elaborates, “Music pushes change, pushes the envelope, but it also brings people together.” Music's dual role in challenging norms and uniting people is at the heart of Saudi Arabia's transformative journey, making it a cornerstone of their cultural revival.Saudi Arabia: A Land of Unexpected DiversityPaul highlights the vastness and cultural diversity of Saudi Arabia, often surprising to many. He compares the country's size to Western Europe, emphasizing varied landscapes and a fast-growing, predominantly young population. “70 percent of the population is under 35 years of age,” he notes, pointing to a digitally enabled and ambitious generation driving change.Building a New Music Industry from ScratchThe Music Commission's task of constructing a new music industry is both daunting and exciting. With no existing infrastructure, they are at liberty to design systems reflective of a future-facing economy. Paul delves into the complexities: “with everything we know about the history of the last 200 years and the evolution of technology from paper cards to blockchain, what would we like to do?” This blank slate approach offers a unique opportunity to innovate without legacy constraints.Human Insight: The Core of Music Industry EvolutionAmidst the discussions about technology and infrastructure, Paul underscores the importance of the human factor. He argues that technology like blockchain is not a panacea but rather a tool that needs to be used judiciously. “What you need is the data in the system,” he says, emphasizing the necessity of accurate and comprehensive data for effective management and distribution in the music industry.

Hey Identifier, https://mashable.com/article/fn-meka-record-deal-racial-stereotyping #fnmeka #music #blackface On Aug. 12, AI-powered rapper FN Meka signed a record deal with Capitol Records, becoming the first digital artist to sign with a major label. Eleven days later, the deal was terminated amidst calls that the character promoted "gross stereotypes" of Black culture, as reported by the New York Times. The voice behind the character has also come forward to say to XXL that he has never been paid for his involvement in the project. The virtual rapper has a large digital presence, with 10.3 million TikTok followers and 222,000 Instagram followers. He was created by media company Factory New, which is cofounded by Anthony Martini and Brandon Le. The two men told Music Business News last year that FN Meka was created by "using thousands of data points compiled from video games and social media." They also say that while the character's voice comes from a real human, his lyrics and all other elements of his rapping are generated by AI. Since the digital rapper's recent online attention, FN Meka has received negative criticism for his mannerisms and online presence. Many took issue with the character using the N-word in his lyrics, and others called out depictions of police brutality on the rapper's social media. E35 Have you been trying to figure out the music industry? After finishing my MBA in Music Business from SNHU and Berklee I wanted to share a taste of real world music business from someone that’s been living through the changes and still breathing it in LA. I met Joe Solo briefly while eating lunch at an Audio Engineer Society Convention in LA a few years back. I spent a summer helping Joe with some vocal editing and learned an incredible perspective from him on how to approach a mix. Joe has continued to adapt, create new business avenues, and move forward in music business and works to teach young artists and engineers pursuing a career regularly so in this episode we break it up. On today's show, we're joined by David Andrew Wiebe. David's a man of many projects, and as well as writing on his site MusicEntrepreneurHQ.com and hosting the New Music Industry podcast, he is also a songwriter, performs regularly with two bands and has written a book, "The New Music Industry", soon to be followed by another all about the creative process, called "Flashes of Elation". We discovered David's work when featuring a podcast episode of his "The Importance of Ongoing Self Education for Musicians" in an article on our website. And it's been a real pleasure to dive into his web and podcast archives and have this opportunity to speak with him on our show. In this conversation we talk about: • Why performing regularly was so important to his finding freedom of creative expression and tapping into his musical instinct on guitar • What he recommends to beginner song writers trying to find inspiration • The conflict between thinking about "passion" and "inspiration" versus just getting solid creative work done day after day • His number one tip for musicians collaborating in a band or other creative projects One thing we love about David is his ability to balance the creative spirit with the down-to-earth practicalities of being a musician. It's fascinating to talk with him and hear his perspective and if you’ve ever struggled creatively, you’re going to really enjoy this conversation. Subscribe For Future Episodes!
