In 2004, he met a young 14-year-old girl who had extraordinary talent. One year later, he started Big Machine and signed the girl to a contract in 2005 as its first client.  It was Taylor Swift, unquestionably the world's biggest entertainer who went on to win two GRAMMY Album of the Year Awards for Fearless in 2010 and 1989 in 2016. Although Swift would eventually leave Big Machine, the company remains one of the most successful entertainment companies in the industry.  But Scott Borchetta is a racer at heart.  A competitive driver behind the wheel, Borchetta owns a NASCAR Xfinity Series team and is the promoter of the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix – the championship race for IndyCar.  Martin has an exclusive interview with Borchetta for Pit Pass Indy Presented by Penske Truck Rental.  On the highways, the raceways and every pit stop in between, Penske Truck Rental keeps you moving forward. In 2019, the pop music landscape was rocked when Taylor Swift took to Tumblr to expose that her arch-nemesis in the industry, Scooter Braun, had gained control over her life's work by owning the masters to her first six albums. She detailed how Braun—a manager, music business executive, and owner of Big Machine Label Group, along with Scott Borchetta—had taken advantage of her. Swift called on her fans to 'let them know how you feel.' And they did. Within a day, 'Swifties' brought record company offices to a standstill, sent threats to Braun's family, and cast the once-unknown executives into the limelight. In the first episode of this two-part series, we delve into the 'Taylor-verse' and expose the unsavory side of the music industry.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

主播:Selah | Anne 歌曲 :开场:Shake It Off (Taylor's Version)结尾:Love Story (Taylor's Version)*更多节目配乐,请在“网易云音乐”搜索“一席英语-老外来了歌单”。 Taylor Swift前段时间重新录了专辑《1989》,官宣后,引起了网友的广泛关注。 1. Taylor Swift是谁?Taylor是美国非常著名的一位女歌手,中国粉丝对她的昵称是“霉霉”。当年,她的那首Love Story刚出来的时候,it just dominated every radio station there is(几乎每一个电台都在放这首歌)。 This song just stuck in people's head for so long(很多人都被这首歌给洗脑了), 因为这首歌实在太火了,it was playing everywhere(红遍了大街小巷)。自那之后, she has released so many hit songs(她又出了很多热门歌曲),比如说:Shake It Off, Blank Space, Bad Blood…• dominate /ˈdɑ:mɪneɪt/ v. 在……中占首要地位• stuck in 陷入 现在,her Era's tour is happening worldwide(她正在进行全球巡演,主题是“时代巡演”)。In the last 3 years, she has been re-recording her albums. 在过去的3年里,她一直在重录她的专辑。 2. 为什么Taylor要重录专辑?她职业生涯的大部分时间,she had a deal with Big Machine Label Group(都是与大机器唱片公司签约),她的合约在2018年到期了。 2019年的时候,一个叫Scooter Braun的人在Big Machine Label Group买下了all of Taylor Swift's early songs(泰勒早期的歌曲),同时也买下了the copyrights to these song(这些歌的版权)。这也就意味着,Scooter Braun的公司现在拥有Taylor Swift's masters of these songs(泰勒这些歌的母带)。 When a musician signs with a label(当艺人跟唱片公司签合同的时候),唱片公司will have the ownership of the copyrights to their masters(通常会拥有母带的版权)。 那也就是说,Taylor Swift以前这些原版的录音包括它们的版权,现在都不属于她自己。She did not get a say in this deal(她对这笔交易没有任何话语权)。• label 唱片公司 • copyright 版权 She has now signed with a new label(她现在签了新的唱片公司),Universal Music Group。她实际上可以继续录新歌,have ownership of all of her masters going forward(拥有新的母带的版权),但是,她想要own her old songs as well(也拥有她老歌的版权)。 她是可以buy her music back,但是Braun would not allow her to buy her own music(不卖给她)。所以,泰勒直接重录,并且把新录的版本叫做“Taylor's Version”。Taylor's version has become very popular. 新录的版本大受欢迎。She's definitely won the battle. 3. 新录的专辑都有什么内容?重录的the album 1989泰勒版是今年十月新鲜出炉的,里面除了有the original songs(原歌曲),she also releases “From the Vault” songs,“From the Vault” songs指的是本来想要在原本的专辑里收录但没有被选中的歌曲),这些歌对于听众来说就是brand new songs 。• vault /vɔ:lt/ n. 地下室• brand new 全新的 新录的专辑 1989 (Taylor's Version) had a very sweet hand-written prologue(手写的序言)。 “I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023 with the re-release of this album I love so dearly. ” 泰勒在1989年出生,然后在2014年也就是1989原始专辑发行的那一年,she reinvented herself for the first time(她第一次重塑了自我)。而2023年,通过重新发布这张她深爱的专辑(the album that she loves so dearly ), she reclaimed a part of herself(她找回了自己)。• reinvent /ˌri:ɪnˈvent/ v. 以新形象示人• reclaim /rɪˈkleɪm/ v.拿回 “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the magic you would sprinkle on my life for so long.” 即使是在她wildest dreams(最狂野的梦里),她也无法想象粉丝竟然能sprinkle so much magic on her life(在她的人生里撒出这么多的魔法)。 “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine...” 是一个很好用的句型,比如说:Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be having dinner with Taylor Swift!我做梦都想不到我会和Taylor Swift共进晚餐。• sprinkle /ˈsprɪŋk(ə)l/ v. 撒;洒• sprinkle... on... 把……撒在上…… “This moment is a reflection of the woods we've wandered through and all this love between us still glowing in the darkest dark.” 这一瞬间,我们一起回忆the woods we've wandered through(我们曾徘徊过的森林),而我们之间的爱依然在glowing in the darkest dark(最黑暗的黑暗之中闪闪发光)。 Taylor真的很会用词,她的文字很有画面感,而且充满了温暖的力量。这句话说明she's gone through a lot of difficult times as well(她也经历了很多困难的时期) ,which is just like wondering through the woods (而这些就像是漫步于森林)。• reflection /rɪˈflekʃ(ə)n/ n.思考;回忆• wander /ˈwɑ:ndər/ v. 漫游• glow v. 发光 “I present to you, with gratitude and wild wonder, my version of 1989. It's been waiting for you.” With gratitude (怀着感激)以及wild wonder(狂放的惊奇),现在present to you(给大家奉上)Taylor's version of 1989。它一直在等你。• gratitude /ˈɡrætɪtu:d/ n. 感激之情• present to sb. sth. 向……展示 请留言告诉我们:你最喜欢霉霉哪首作品呢?欢迎留言到评论区一起聊聊。 1

You might know him as Scooter Braun, one of the most prolific entrepreneurs and innovators in entertainment, music, tech, and beyond. Yet, during the Hoffman Process, Scooter reclaimed himself as Scott, the young boy he once was and the person he has always been.  Scooter shares that both sides of his familial line experienced great trauma and struggles. He was aware enough to know that his life as a child was good. Through the Process, he came to realize that he felt guilt for having struggles because his paled in comparison to those his parents and grandparents experienced. Through the Process, Scott was able to heal the pain of his past, understanding that we all face human trauma and challenges. Sharing about his upbringing, his loving parents, and what he learned through his Process, Scott cogently shines a light on the Path to Personal Freedom and Love. One beautiful thing Scott offers to us in this episode is the understanding that once we do the deep healing work of childhood, we can then step forward to discover who we really are, now, in the present day. From this present moment, we can continue to reclaim more and more of who we truly are. Scott recommends the Process to many of those he knows. When people remark about how much he has changed and want to know how this happened, he suggests they attend. According to Paul Deakin, just as he began his drumming career at age 6, he managed to temporarily end the support of his parents by breaking his drumheads right out of the gate.   Not long after that, he realized that sports weren't his thing and the only way that he would attract any female attention was to follow in Ringo's footsteps…so he cheerfully recalls.  Paul soon began private drum lessons and practiced every day…again challenging his parent's ability to deal with his new-found 'hobby'.  He joined his first band at age 15 and quickly learned the difficulty of the music business but never wavered.   Paul Deakin studied music at the University of Miami and along with perfecting his drumming skills, also studied mallets and after college, taught music for a bit in Miami.  By age 30, Deakin, along with lead singer Raul Malo and bassist Robert Reynolds, formed The Mavericks.  The band is now celebrating over 25 years together, have collected Gold and Platinum record awards, and in 1995, were the winner of the Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.  Deakin has also performed and recorded with other artists including David Mead, Matt King and Jason White.  The Mavericks are currently signed to the Big Machine Label Group and are recording and planning tours for the upcoming year.https://www.themavericksband.com/https://www.facebook.com/TheMavericksMusichttps://twitter.com/mavpaul59?lang=enHost - Trey Mitchelltreymitchellphotography IGfeeding_the_senses_unsensored on IGtrey mitchell: facebook.com/profile.php?id=100074368084848For Sponsorship Information or Questions -  ftsunashville@gmail.comTheme Song - Damien HorneTake It From Me @damienhorne

Our guy making noise. Kentucky native, Kenton Bryant, may have grown up with his two feet firmly in the state's blue grass but his musical roots were planted deep in the sounds of legends like Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and The Eagles. In his teenage years you would likely find him in a garage, cranking up a Fender Vibrolux amp, banging away at the timeless songs of these greats. As time rolled on, his love of artists who could deliver raw emotions with a classic edge grew, and so did the list of his musical influences. Keith Urban, later followed by Eric Church proved that this authentic approach would explode in Country Music. Kenton knew that the craft he had spent so much time honing - unique phrases wrapped around thoughtfully crafted lyrics, sitting on a bed of classic rock textures – could have a home in Nashville. With no backup plan, Kenton uprooted his life and moved down I-65 south to pursue his dream of recording and performing music for a livelihood. His diligent work studying and crafting songs with hit-makers up and down Music Row paid off when in 2017, Kenton signed a publishing agreement with 50 Egg Music (Jonathan Singleton, Luke Combs) and Big Machine Music (publishing division of Big Machine Label Group).

Just a few hours prior to recording, a couple stories grabbed Greg’s attention & inspired our newest named segment, which he’s calling “Tay-Tay Today”. A little over a year ago, former Kanye West manager Scooter Braun purchased Big Machine Label Group which owned the rights to Taylor Swift’s first six albums. In spectacular fashion, the Swifties unleashed on Scootie and drama ensued (interesting to note, Scooter has incredibly thin skin, which is really surprising, given his name, which is Scooter). So this week news dropped that Mr. Braun sold the rights to her catalog & Taylor confirmed that she’s been re-recording her entire catalog to give fans a way to listen to her music without supporting her adversaries. Oh Taylor, we genuinely love you! [Variety & Variety]Song: Here Lies Man - “I Told You (You Shall Die)”In other news, Jason Isbell & Amanda Shires announced that they were leaving the Country Music Association over the CMA’s failure to honor John Prine (as well as Jerry Jeff Walker and Billy Joe Shaver) during the ceremony. So, basically the most perfectly assembled Jay story ever. We get into it and pivot to some overall issues facing Nashville today. [Pitchfork]Song: Barry Gibb - “Word of a Fool”Nick has some bad news, apparently vinyl is on its way out & we have COVID-19 to blame!! Actually, it looks like production is down because of plant shutdowns and sales haven’t been as high (probably because of the aforementioned drop in production, resulting in reduced availability). Nevertheless, Pitchfork is proclaiming the “Vinyl Revival” in jeopardy & we proclaim that assessment “Total BS”. [Pitchfork]Also, he’s really been digging Microphones in 2020 & everything else Phil Elverum has ben making the past few years.Album/Song: The Microphones in 2020

From being homeless and having a cocaine addiction through to managing and mentoring artists.  About Rick: “You Don’t Drown By Falling Into The Water, You Drown By Staying There.” You will find these words on Rick Barker’s business card and he mentions it in almost every conversation he has with either aspiring artists or those recovering from an addiction. He is a manager, entrepreneur, author, podcaster and consultant focusing on the recent changes in the music business. By sharing his experience and insider tips, he helps his clients understand the music business and fast-tracks their steps to success. While those things describe his business life, the titles that he loves most are the ones which describe his personal life: Sober, Christian, Husband, and Father. Rick grew up in Alabama and was raised by a single mom. Growing up with very little in way of money and resources, Rick developed a work ethic and learned to hustle at the age of 12. By the age of 14, he was helping his mom financially support his brothers and sister. Rick was not a fan of the traditional education system. He found himself doing just enough to get by in the classes that didn’t interest him, yet excelling in those that did. At the age of 17, his life changed dramatically when he moved to California to live with his dad. He got involved with the wrong crowd and ended up quitting high school. Later, he found himself addicted to drugs and living homeless on the streets of LA. On April 4 1989, after battling a cocaine addiction Rick got on his knees and prayed that God would let him die. Yet, God had other plans for Rick. These plans included sobriety, pursuing his dream of being on the radio, marrying his wife (Jill) and having two awesome children (Brianna and Logan), and one day meeting and managing Taylor Swift. All of these trials and tribulations influenced him to become the man he is today. Like he always tells the audiences he speaks to, “Your Past Does Not Define Your Future, I am Living Proof.” Rick currently manages American Idol Winner Trent Harmon and Consults Scott Borchetta and The Big Machine Label Group. Spiritual Happy Hour is thriled to welcome Stephaine and Cheryl Lynn Spinner from the country music group Spinn on Thursday, November 16th at 8pm Eastern Time.  They're city girls with country hearts and they're putting their cowboy boot imprint on the Garden State and the rest of the country.  We will be talking about the power of music and how it can transform and heal us.  Join us as we listen to to their story/journey and hear some of their music from their new album Freedom. This past year Spinn won country music station NASH FM’s NASH Next regional competition – which featured over 750 bands – earning them a trip to Nashville to perform in the finals, and tour with the other Top 10 finalists from around the country. Brooks & Dunn’s Kix Brooks, who was one of the competition’s judges, was so impressed with the duo that he asked to be part of the Spinn Fan Club (other judges included Big Machine Label Group’s Scott Borchetta, Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus, and Season 4 winner of The Voice, Danielle Bradbery). A lot of people have been asking to be a part of Spinn's fan club lately, as their spot on the NASH Next tour gave them the opportunity to show all of America what NJ and NYC already knew – a Spinn live show is always a good time. Hitting the stage with their unique mix of traditional country – including Cheryl Lynn playing the Autoharp – playful banter, and a heaping dose of humor, Spinn wins people over with both their music, and their personalities. It’s a combination that has brought country music fans together in many of New York and New Jersey’s top venues, including Rockwood Music Hall, The Stone Pony, and Maxwell’s.

BehindTheNote.com/64 We cover a lot in this 45 minute episode with Rick Barker, Taylor Swift's first manager. Some questions we answer are: • When is a good time to hire a manager • How to build a loyal audience • And of course, Advice For A Successful Music Career ;) Grab a pen and paper, take notes, and then get to work! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rick Barker strives to teach artists how to be artists. With major changes in the music industry and digital world, record labels expect artists to build their online presence and fan base, become great songwriters and performers, and ultimately create their own buzz. Labels no longer spend thousands of dollars to “develop” an act. Today, labels are interested in investing in small businesses. Therefore, it is the artist’s job to treat their art as a business and become an attractive partner to a record label. Between formerly managing music superstar Taylor Swift, serving as the Social Media Mentor to finalists on FOX’s American Idol, and working as a private consultant to entities such as Big Machine Label Group and Live Nation, Rick Barker’s influence on the music industry is without question. Utilizing his extensive experience in radio, Rick created the “Nashville To You” radio tour, which played an important role in the early development of several acts, including Taylor Swift and Sugarland. With marketing tactics featured in Billboard and other well-known publications, Rick has dedicated his life to helping independent artists plot out the most efficient strategies for turning their music into a career. He is also the co-author of “The $150,000 Music Degree”, a music business e-book that, upon its release, was the most downloaded book on Noisetrade and he created Social Media For Music, the first ever step by step instruction course dedicated to the Music Industry. He was the first record promoter hired by Big Machine’s Scott Borchetta, where he had a role in the label’s first Number One record with singer-songwriter Jack Ingram. Rick later went on to found his own marketing and consulting firm, at which his first client was Sony Music Nashville. He is also the mastermind behind Music Industry Blueprint, a development service teaching artists from around the world everything they need to know about the complicated music business. We hope Rick’s free resources inspire you to take control of your career and become a business-minded artist who is ready to take on this crazy industry. As always, feel free to reach out with any questions.
