‘You only need to win a game by one point.' – Jacques Nienaber after South Africa's tournament opener against Scotland in the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Little did the coach know that it would take three one-point games to propel the Springboks into the history books as four-time winners of the Webb Ellis Cup. In 2017 the Boks looked punch-drunk as Jacques Nienaber and Rassie Erasmus watched them being overpowered by Ireland. The following year, the coaching duo took up the reins little more than 18 months before the 2019 RWC in Japan. And so began a journey that was to end in victory in the Stade de France six years later. Twice the Glory goes deep inside the Bok story of that historic era. Filled with drama, cheers and tears, it will have you on the edge of your seat as you relive each nail-biting moment. It's all here: the Covid disruption, Siya Kolisi's rise to the captaincy, Rassie in hot water over that video, injury blows and the emergence of new talent as they head off to France. The book also includes penetrating analysis and insights from the self-effacing Nienaber into how this team became the finest the world has seen. A recurring theme is the friendship between Jacques and Rassie that goes all the way back to their university days, and why they decided to come home to South Africa to ‘turn things around'. In this episode of pagecast, Sports Broadcaster Cato Louw sits down with authors Lloyd Burnard and Khanyiso Tshwaku.

jQuery(document).ready(function(){ cab.clickify(); }); Original Podcast with clickable words https://tinyurl.com/27b9pvat Contact: irishlingos@gmail.com The Irish celebrating in Paris. Na hÉireannaigh ag ceilúradh i bPáras. Fans of the Irish rugby team are celebrating tonight after Andy Farrell's players got the better of the world champions in Paris. Tá údar ceiliúrtha ag lucht leanúna fhoireann rugbaí na hÉireann anocht i ndiaidh d'imreoirí Andy Farrell an ceann is fearr a fháil ar churaithe an domhain i bPáras. They had 5 points to spare over South Africa in a hard fought game at the Stade de France. Bhí 5 phointe le spáráil acu ar an Afraic Theas i gcluiche crua teann sa Stade de France. The final score in this game in Pool B was 13-8. 13-8 an scór deiridh sa gcluiche seo i bPúl B. There may not have been many points on the scoreboard but Ireland won a game that was not easy for them. B'fhéidir nach bhfacthas mórán pointí ar chlár na scór ach bhuaigh Éirinn cluiche nach raibh éasca dóibh. These players have now taken a big step forward and have a good chance of going all the way to the final. Tá céim mhór tógtha anois ag na himreoirí seo agus cosúlacht mhaith orthu go ngabhfaidh siad an bealach ar fad chuig an chluiche ceannais. Only one to score either side, Mack Hansen one of Ireland's heroes on the night. Úd amháin a scóráil ceachtar taobh,Mack Hansen duine de laochra na hÉireann ar an oíche. who laid the ball down behind the Springbok back line. a leag an liathróid anuas laistiar de líne cúil an Springbok. Jack Crowley secured victory for the Irish with a penalty kick but their defenders then had to do their best to keep the Boks out of their back line. Ba é Jack Crowley a chinntigh an bua do na hÉireannaigh le cic píonóis ach bhí ar a gcuid cosantóirí ansin éacht a dhéanamh leis na Boks a choinneáil amach óna líne cúil. But they did so securing an important psychological victory for Ireland, their third victory in a row in this competition and they now aim for another in two weeks' time against Scotland. Ach rinne siad sin ag cinntiú bua tábhachtach siceolaíoch d'Éirinn, a dtriú bua as a chéile sa chomórtas seo agus iad ag dréim anois le ceann eile faoi cheann coicíse in aghaidh na hAlban. It is very likely that the All Blacks will face Ireland in the quarter-final, unless the Italians manage to bring the legs with them and qualify in second place from Pool A. Is mór an seans gurb iad na All Blacks a bheidh in aghaidh na hÉireann sa chluiche ceathrú ceannais, mura n-éiríonn leis na hIodálaigh na cosa a thabhairt leo agus cáiliú sa dara háit as Púl A. Whatever happens, a big threat has come from the Irish team tonight and it is unlikely that they will be too concerned about who they will face in the knockout rounds of this competition which is taking place in France. Pé ní a tharlaíonn ta bagairt mhór tagtha ó fhoireann na hÉireann anocht agus ní dócha go mbeidh aon ró-imní orthu maidir le cé a chasfaidh orthu sna babhtaí díbeartha den chomórtas seo atá ar siúl sa Fhrainc. As for South Africa, their head coach, Jacques Nienaber, says that he still believes that this result does not change anything and that the Springbok will once again own the World Cup this round. Maidir leis an Afraic Theas dhe, deir a bpríomh-chóitseálai,Jacques Nienaber go gcreideann sé i gcónaí nach n-athraíonn an toradh seo faic agus gur leis an Springbok Corn an Domhain arís an babhta seo. He praised the Irish team for their win and although South Africa missed a number of chances, Nienaber said he could not side with excuses because Ireland proved themselves to be the best team on the night. Mhol sé foireann na hÉireann as a mbua agus cé gur chaill an Afraic Theas roinnt seansanna dúirt Nienaber nár fhéad sé a bheith taobh le leithscéalta mar gur chruthaigh Éirinn iad féin mar an fhoireann ab fhearr ar an oíche. It certainly didn't help South Africa that they missed 3-point chances on the night,

Host Carl Lewis is joined by rugby coach Dave Wessels and journalist Simnikiwe Xabanisa as they discuss the biggest talking points in South African and world rugby.   Ireland significantly enhanced their number-one standing in world rugby when they saw off the Springboks 19-16 in a tense Test in Dublin on a cool but comfortable Saturday evening.   Were Ireland the better side? In front of their passionate crowd, they were, and the critical part was their ability to make their chances count. They struck twice in four minutes just after the half-time break through loose-forward Josh van der Flier and wing Mack Hansen to give Ireland a 10-point buffer that was too much for the Boks to overhaul.   The Boks had more than a decent foothold in the game, but the lack of a regular goal-kicker hurt them badly.   The seven points that were missed off the tee by Damian Willemse and Cheslin Kolbe would have swung the game in the Boks' favour.   The Boks were also guilty of being creatively blunt in the red zone and it's something they desperately need to fix ahead of next week's clash against France.   Ireland have not only kept a 10-year home unbeaten streak against the Boks, but have beaten New Zealand and the world champions in the space of a year.   Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber has made a few changes to his team for Saturday's Test against France in Marseille. Stormers flyhalf Manie Libbok is chosen on the bench and will make his Test debut is he gets a run. Libbok's inclusion is likely to cover for the team's shaky goalkicking that was exposed in last weekend's 19-16 defeat to Ireland in Dublin.   In all, Nienaber has made five changes and two positional switches from the side that ran out against Ireland.   Willie le Roux comes back into the starting XV at fullback, with Cheslin Kolbe moving to right wing and Kurt-Lee Arendse to left wing as Makazole Mapimpi drops to the bench.   The other change in the backline sees Faf de Klerk replace Jaden Hendrikse at scrumhalf, forming a halfback combination with Damian Willemse.   The Bok mentor also made changes to his forward pack, with tighthead prop Frans Malherbe packing down in a new-look front row alongside Bongi Mbonambi (hooker) and Ox Nche (loosehead prop). Franco Mostert also starts at lock in place of the injured Lood de Jager.   Other changes on the bench include Cobus Reinach as scrumhalf cover, with Hendrikse dropping out of the match-day squad.   Steven Kitshoff (prop), Malcolm Marx (hooker) and Marvin Orie (lock) also feature on the bench as the Boks this week opted for a five-three forwards-backs split on the bench

Host Carl Lewis is back the usual loose trio coach Dave Wessels and rugby journalist Simnikiwe Xabanisa for another episode of the School of Hard Knocks-Ons. In this rugby podcast, the trio focus on: Preview of the Rugby Championship clash between Argentina and South Africa. The Springboks have named an unchanged Starting XV for the Pumas Test. Talented young loose forward Elrigh Louw takes over from Duane Vermeulen on the bench, Faf de Klerk returns as scrumhalf cover in place of Cobus Reinach, and Andre Esterhuizen gets a run in place of Warrick Gelant in the match, which has been moved to Estadio Libertadores De América. With New Zealand on 10 log points and the Springboks, Australia and Argentina trailing by only one point each on nine points– although Nienaber's men are currently in second place on the standings due to a favourable points difference – all four teams are under pressure to win their remaining matches and preferably with bonus points to give themselves the best possible chance of winning the title. With the Boks coming off a strong performance against Australia in Sydney in their last match two weeks ago, where they registered a convincing 24-8 bonus-point victory, Nienaber opted to retain the starting team that laid a strong foundation for the win. We also touch on Elton Jantjies and take a look at it from a coaches and media perspective. We then look ahead to the Unit3d Rugby Championship where the Bulls and Lions kick off the season from a South African perspective.

Host Carl Lewis is joined by Rapport editor Tinus van Staden and SA Rugby journalist Dylan Jack. They discuss the Springbok selection for Australia this week and what their selection criteria will look like for the rest of the Rugby Championship until the World Cup in France in 2023. Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber on Monday named a 34-man squad for the Australian leg of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship, with the uncapped Canan Moodie earning a call-up for his first tour in a settled national squad. Nienaber said the touring squad, which features a good mix of youth and experience, was in line with the standard travelling squad for the Rugby World Cup and he believed that they were the right group of players to achieve what they set out to do in the two Tests against Australia in Adelaide (Saturday, 27 August) and Sydney (Saturday, 3 September). Nienaber said he would make changes to the squad for the two Tests against Argentina in Buenos Aires and Durban as he looks to give his expanded group of players a chance to prove themselves with an eye on the Rugby World Cup which will be hosted in France next year. “We have been working with a large group of players for the last few months and we believe this will pay off in the long run as we look to expand our depth for the Rugby World Cup and beyond,” said Nienaber. “Since we are going on tour, however, we will take a group of players that is more in line with the size of a Rugby World Cup squad, and our thought process is that we will have two groups of players – one who will participate in the Australian leg of the competition and another for the Argentina matches. “This way we can manage the players as well as possible on tour, while at the same time ensuring we continue to develop our depth and give the players opportunities to prove themselves with a little over a year to go before the Rugby World Cup kicks off.” Moodie, who was called up to the squad as utility back cover following the suspension handed to wing Kurt-Lee Arendse for a dangerous tackle, is the only uncapped player in the group and will travel with the Springboks for the first time, providing cover at wing and fullback. His presence also fills the void left by Cheslin Kolbe, who is on the road to recovery from a broken jaw, which will see him only return for the last Test against Argentina. With Bongi Mbonambi (hooker) ruled out for four weeks after suffering a knee injury at training last week, Deon Fourie will serve as back-up to Malcolm Marx and Joseph Dweba, while Damian Willemse's versatility in the backline will see provide cover at flyhalf, centre and fullback. “Bongi has been ruled out for four weeks, but Deon, who is an experienced hooker and flank, has been practicing his lineout throws with us, so we are confident that he will be able to fill that void for us in these matches,” said Nienaber. “We are also excited to see how Canan slots in during the next few weeks and to see how he adapts to our structures and systems, and we believe he has the skills to slot in for Kurt-Lee and Cheslin. AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich is joined by Dr. Dan Thomson from the Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University to discuss the effects and mitigation strategies resulting from heat stress in feedlot cattle. We discuss that heavy and black-hided cattle are at increased risk of heat stress, and control strategies should first target these groups of cattle when the temperature-humidity index (THI) is greater than 70 degrees F. Thomson states that the first thing cattle will do when experiencing heat stress is stand up, pant and decrease intakes. Bedding placed in pens can reduce surface temperatures by 20-30 degrees F, and providing shade that moves with the sun will also help to cool cattle. Building mounds for cattle to be further away from surface heat and allow more exposure to moving air will also decrease heat stress in cattle. Thomson reminds our listeners that water is the most important nutrient to cattle, especially in times of heat stress events. Cattle will drink 3x dry matter intake normally, but during hot weather they will drink 5x dry matter intake. Ensuring access to clean water with adequate trough space is important. We also discuss removing barriers to airflow in feedlot pens and using low stress handling techniques or stopping all movements during times of intense heat stress. Thomson also discusses his television show Doc Talk which is available on RFD TV and has a wide audience for discussing issues important to cattle veterinarians and producers. Picking brand names and what you need to do firstKey takeaways & quotesYou have got to learn how to market to the right demographic. Research and know your target market."Not only do you have to know how boards work, but you have to understand where they work. A lot of people don't have that background knowledge.""If you're in control of your body, you can pretty much ride anything. And that's what we're going to do to make you ride everything.""Funny thing about surfing– what you think it is as opposed to the real knowledge as to what it is, is just the polar opposite.""If you can figure out what the bus stop is, and then you use those techniques, surfing can be effortless. You can surf with a lot of power and a lot of style."Knowledge is one thing, but you don't understand it until it's been proven to you. One of the hardest things to do is change our habits. Our brains are lazy, and we default to habits. We have to come up with ways to reteach the body. Preparation is crucial to success in every sport, surfing included. "You don't just show up and be like, 'all right, cyclone season's here. I'm going to go ahead and rip it.' You do some prep. In every other sport, that's normal."You've got to get inside the head of your target customer. What keeps them up at night? What's stressing them out? Focus on them and what they need.Return on investment is important. Every idea you back has a cost. The old saying goes that defence wins World Cups and in 2019 that adage held true as the Springboks conceded a miserly four tries in seven matches at RWC 2019 to claim their third world title. The mastermind behind their steel was renowned defence coach Jacques Nienaber, who has spent more time than is healthy in dark rooms, lit by LED screens, watching men tackle each other. Jacques has been the power behind the throne for all of his coaching career but in 2020, he has stepped into the spotlight as the 15th post-isolation Springbok head coach. Normally he would have overseen his first Test matches by this time of the year, but due to the suspension of competition as a result of coronavirus, he is still waiting to lead the current world champions into Test battle. Until then, like a likeable Bond villain, Nienaber has time to plot and plan another four years of world rugby dominance, as he waits to unleash the Boks again.
