This Sunday, we’re asking a question most of us never stop to consider: Who’s really leading your life? Whether it’s culture, comfort, a relationship, or even your own voice, something is shaping your direction. But what happens when life gets hard, we make some bad choices or maybe have to start over again? Jesus makes a stunning claim in John 10. Not just that He’s a guide—but that He’s the Shepherd who stays, sacrifices, and knows you completely. Join us as we look at a love that doesn’t run, and a voice that can be trusted. We meet at 10 a.m. on Sundays, 360 Schermerhorn. Kids' Church starts at 10 a.m. as well for ages 5-12. --Edwin

family, I hope you'll invite a friend this Sunday when we continue our brand-new series, The Jesus I Never Knew. All of us have seen those game shows where the contestant has to pick either door #1, door #2, or door #3. Usually there's a wonderful prize behind one door and something not so wonderful behind the other two. Since we're all familiar with doors being a way to either great treasure or terrible disappointment, it's interesting when Jesus says about himself, "I am the door." He's speaking to the desperate needs we all have in our lives--for security, salvation, satisfaction, and more. He's a door that we all need to walk through and trust. I look forward to seeing all of you at 360 Schermerhorn. Church for adults and for kids ages 5-12 starts at 10 a.m. --Edwin

The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Calvin Schermerhorn. Classified as a White Man and a graduate of Harvard Divinity School and the University of Virginia, Schermerhorn is a historian of slavery, capitalism, and African American inequality. Weeks ago, he penned a piece deconstructing the local System of White Supremacy that's responsible for hundreds of black homeowners having their housing jeopardized or destroyed by the 2025 California Wildfires. One of the locations with a high population of non-white residents is the “unincorporated” region of Altadena, an area prone to fires yet reserved for non-white people. All of this fits neatly into the massive economic patterns Schermerhorn inspects in his 2025 publication: The Plunder of Black America How the Racial Wealth Gap Was Made. This text examines how generations of Whites have codified the looting of black people. A major component of this Racist codification is keeping black people ignorant and illiterate. Professor Schermerhorn documents how White people across the continent create laws, burn black school houses, and/or loot educational funds designated for black children all with the desired aim of maintaining a mindless, vulnerable population of black people who will be dominated in perpetuity. #MoneyDontMatterTonight #TheCOWS16Years CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

Endocrine diseases are prevalent in cats, and the most frequent ones are diabetes and hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism in cats is a common endocrine disorder typically seen in older felines, characterized by an overproduction of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4) from an enlarged, usually benign thyroid gland. This hormone surge ramps up metabolism, leading to classic symptoms like weight loss despite an increased appetite, hyperactivity, restlessness, and a poor coat condition. Other signs may include increased thirst, vomiting, and heart murmurs or hypertension due to the cardiovascular strain. If untreated, hyperthyroidism can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, and kidney damage. Treatment options include medication, dietary management, surgery, or radioactive iodine therapy, depending on the cat's health status and owner's preference.

Hey family, throughout this series we've learned some truths about work. Some of us view work as gross, a necessary evil to be endured. Others view work as God--the thing that we pour ourselves into and get our identify from. The truth is, work is worship, an opportunity to praise God with the gifts he's given us and thank him for the place he's given us to use them. This week we're going to look at another aspect of work that is actually one of the most important commands that God has ever given. That command is to stop work and take a day of rest, or as the Bible calls it, sabbath. The Sabbath is a fundamental part of our lives. It's a reminder of the work that God has already done and a way to hear him amid the hustle and bustle of life. I hope to see you, and bring a friend! Join us at 10 a.m., 360 Schermerhorn St. Kids Church also starts at 10 for kids ages 5-12. --Edwin ANNOUNCEMENTS: Friday night in-person Bible study—led by Rob Lambert, live at 360 Schermerhorn. 7 p.m. All are invited! SAVE THE DATE--This year's Day of Delighting will be Saturday afternoon, Oct. 27, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Join us to learn about fasting and new ways of worshiping God.

Join us this Sunday! Did you know that the Book of Psalms is a collection of hymns, poems, and prayers? Many were used by the Israelites in their worship services. There are psalms expressing praise, sadness, anger, gratitude, and many other emotions. We can use the very same psalms to express our own feelings today. The psalms are the basis for our current sermon series, Summer in the Psalms. The quiet days of summer are a great time to meditate on what God has done in our lives and what he is planning for the future. I love God, but I really messed up this time. Hey family, a healthy congregation learns how to deal with sin and not to suppress or hide it. So the question is, how do you deal with sin in your life if you love God? Because even when that’s the case, the fact is that we *will* sin, we will fall short, and so there needs to be a healthy, faith-building way to address our shame, our guilt, our sin, after we’ve blown it. The psalm we’ll be studying this week deals with this in the most powerful way. The writer of Psalm 19 asks questions and declares truths because of who God is. This is what we’ll talk about on Sunday as we continue our series, “Summer in the Psalms.” In every Sunday service, God is constructing our souls. Please come this Sunday as we grow together, and bring a friend! 10 a.m. on Sunday, 360 Schermerhorn St. Kids’ Church starts at 10 as well, for ages 5-12. Don’t come to Sunday service!?! Hey Family, as you know, many people have gotten into the habit of thinking that watching a person preach on a screen is sufficient for our spiritual nourishment. Because I love you, I want to say some important things that we all need to hear. I want you to know that growing toward spiritual maturity is NOT about getting on a screen and listening to some genius explain what he learned while reading God’s word. Rather, here at Next Step Community Church, we believe that the Sunday service should be a reflection of the Christian life. Therefore, we’ve created various components that go into that: silence, singing, serving and being served, scripture reading, communion, testifying and confession, prayer and applying God’s word. In every Sunday service, God is constructing our souls. I’m going to be speaking to you about that throughout the summer. Please come this Sunday as we grow together. And bring a friend! 10 a.m. on Sunday, 360 Schermerhorn St. Kids’ Church starts at 10 as well, for ages 5-12. So we don't know if you've heard, but New York City is an expensive place to live these days. So we thought it might be time to revisit the tale of the city's most famous district of luxury — Fifth Avenue.  For about a hundred years, this avenue was mostly residential -- but residences of the most extravagant kind.At the heart of New York's Gilded Age — the late 19th-century era of unprecedented American wealth and excess — were families with the names Astor, Waldorf, Schermerhorn, and Vanderbilt, alongside power players like A.T. Stewart, Jay Gould and William “Boss” Tweed. They would all make their homes — and in the case of the Vanderbilts, their great many homes — on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue. The image of Fifth Avenue as a luxury retail destination today grew from the street's aristocratic reputation in the 1800s. The rich were inextricably drawn to the avenue as early as the 1830s when rich merchants, anxious to be near the exquisite row houses of Washington Square Park, began turning it into an artery of expensive abodes. In this podcast, Tom and Greg present a world that's somewhat hard to imagine — free-standing mansions in an exclusive corridor running right through the center of Manhattan. Why was Fifth Avenue fated to become the domain of the so-called “Upper Ten”? And what changed about the city in the 20th century to ensure the eventual destruction of most of them? The following is a re-edited, remastered version of two past Bowery Boys shows — the Rise and Fall of the Fifth Avenue Mansion. Combined, this tells the whole story of Fifth Avenue, from the initial development of streets in the 1820s to its Midtown transformation into a mecca of high-end shopping in the 1930s. This could also serve as a primer to the HBO series The Gilded Age, the official podcast co-hosted by Tom Meyers which debuts on October 30.Visit the website for further information.
