fWotD Episode 2922: Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Monday, 5 May 2025, is Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is a 2004 action role-playing video game that was developed by Square Enix and Jupiter, and published by Square Enix in collaboration with Disney Interactive for the Game Boy Advance. The game, which is an intermediary between the two larger-scale PlayStation 2 games in the Kingdom Hearts series, was one of the first GBA games to incorporate full motion video (FMV).Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is the second game in the Kingdom Hearts series. It is a direct sequel to Kingdom Hearts whose ending is set about a year before the events of Kingdom Hearts II. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories follows Sora and his friends as they explore the mysterious Castle Oblivion while battling Organization XIII, a new group of antagonists in the series. The game introduces new characters and plot lines that further expand the Kingdom Hearts universe and set up the premise of Kingdom Hearts II. The game uses a new card-based battle system rather than its predecessor's real-time combat system.Though it was not as successful as the other Kingdom Hearts games, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories received positive reviews and sold well. It was praised for its story, graphics, and full-motion videos (FMV) but its card-based battle system was criticized. When it debuted in Japan, the game sold over 100,000 units in 48 hours. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories was remade for the PlayStation 2 as Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, which was packaged with Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and released in Japan in March 2007. The remake was released in North America on December 2, 2008, and was remastered in high definition (HD) and included in the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix collection, which was released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 (PS3), and later for PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One, and personal computer (PC).Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories is a combination of a role-playing video game and a collectible card game. There is an experience point system that can be used to increase the character's maximum health and Card Points, or to learn new skills. The cards are used in the progression of the story and in combat. The game features a world map and a battle screen. The world map is an isometric area where the player traverses rooms. Enemies inhabit the world and track the player to engage in combat, which is initiated when the player and an enemy come into contact. Once in combat, the game switches to the battle screen, which uses the card-based battle system. To advance through the game, the player uses map cards they obtain after winning battles to create rooms through "room synthesis". The map card the player chooses determines the properties of each room―including the quality of items and the strength of enemies. The color of each card has a specific effect: red cards affect the number and type of enemies; green cards affect the power of the player's deck; and blue cards affect the properties of the room, such as the allowance of treasure chests or the appearance of save points. The game has three modes; two are story modes featuring Sora and Riku, and the third is a two-player battle mode. Initially, only Sora's story mode is available; once that story is completed, the "Reverse/Rebirth" mode becomes available. Reverse/Rebirth allows the player to play the second story mode featuring Riku and the battle mode in which two players using a Game Link Cable can battle each other. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:30 UTC on Monday, 5 May 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Ayanda.

A scattered dream that's like a far off podcast. Welcome back to the podcast this week! Today we're doing an episode that was a long time coming and talking about Kingdom Hearts II. The only numbered entry in the series we hadn't talked about yet and probably the simultaneously most loved and most controversial Kingdom Hearts game. KH2 is an action RPG like its predecessor, but amps up a lot of the mechanical interaction to be much faster and more stylish. At times, it plays like a character action game with you executing 20+ hit combos and flying through the air, but its depth in combat lies in a different area than in those games, focusing more on the different meters and timings as well as your ability to navigate the command menu and just generally being aware of your surroundings. In a way, this is the first game in the series that has a real mechanical hook to latch onto rather than its presentation and IP crossover content. However, that is still present and is a large part of why these games are so loved. The Disney worlds are back and the narrative writing here starts the trend of what people understand to be Kingdom Hearts story writing as a whole. This game introduced Organization XIII, nobodies, and characters like Roxas and Namine to the larger public and whether that stuff is going to float your boat is purely a matter of taste. What is noticed though is a loss of the simplicity and innocence the first game had. Though this could also be a good thing, as the characters introduced add a lot more depth to the storytelling, and lore wonks most likely come back to things said in this game as a basis for many theories, but it is markedly different than it was in Kingdom Hearts and the feel of the game is changed because of it. There are other changes, too. Levels are more open to facilitate the flashier combat, platforming has been all but stripped out, and the gummy ship levels are fully reworked, but these are all things to be played and listened to, so let's just jump in. We're going to be talking about the game's focus on being bigger and bolder and badder and some other b's too, probably, than its predecessors, the moody character writing and how this actually set the game apart from its contemporaries, and we discuss what part of the game if executed slightly differently would be on the front page of the New York Times. Thank you for listening this week! It took us a long time to get to this game, but it's finally done and we're all better off for it. The legacy of this series is taken pretty seriously by its fans, and that's something that is difficult to talk around when going back to this game after a long time. While we, when taken as a whole, are very familiar with the game and have nostalgic attachment to it, it is pretty old as far as games go, and while that reflects in some of the design decisions that were made, it absolutely does not diminish the impact this game had both on its own franchise, which was paradigm defining, but also on games as a whole. It has a lot of appeal both for people who already played similar games as well as for people who got into it for the Disney stuff and ended up getting exposed to some of that classic RPG weirdness. So which are you? Did you play this game at the time of its release and grow up with the series as many people my age did, or did you play it retrospectively, or something else? Let us know in the comments or over on our Discord! Next time, we're going to be devolving into a more primitive state and talking about Donkey Kong 64 as we kick off (and in all likelihood, also end, given our current schedule) Simian September, the spiritual successor to Ape-ril, so we hope you'll join us for that, and not stop listening for the continuous unhinged themed month ideas.

We take a break from talking about Kingdom Hearts to get a whole bunch of Final Fantasy XIV talking out of our system! But because Final Fantasy XIV is huge, we decided we can't do it all at once. So we have the discussion of A Realm Reborn through Stormblood in the middle of the season while we save the best part for the end! Join the Warrior of Light, chosen champion of Hydaelyn, as they are tasked to slay primals, push back an encroaching evil empire, end a thousand year long conflict between Catholic elves and dragons, and fight an Organization XIII-ass cloak club, the Ascians. You know, normal stuff. We blitz through these story points and more as we try to explain why the three of us play and enjoy the critically acclaimed MMORPG that is free to play through lev- ::is shot for meme crimes:: (Don't worry, Kingdom Hearts is back next week.)
With the plans of Organization XIII thwarted and Xemnas defeated, it's time to tie up the loose ends for Kingdom Hearts 2. Dive into the Secret Ansem Reports and discover how oversight by Ansem the Wise caused ripples throughout the Kingdom Hearts plot, and then stay to see what's left to do after the credits roll, featuring an appearance by the One Winged Angel himself. From here, we're moving on to 358/2 Days and Re:Coded. This week, we are at the halfway point of Ventus's story in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. We go to the Badlands where we have a tough battle with the Boy in the Mask (who we know is Vanitas), but we get saved by Mickey as we team up with the Disney Icon. Afterward, we find Ven in Radiant Gardens, where we meet up with a lot of the Somebodies of the future Organization XIII. We even get to meet with Scrooge as he gives us the tickets to our next world which is Disney Town as we go through one of the most hated mini-games in the franchise - Ice Cream Beat.
Ventus's journey takes him to the Badlands and Radiant Garden this week! In the badlands, he gets in a fight with a very annoying afterimage spamming jerk, Vanitas, and makes friends with everyone's favorite cartoon mouse. Then, in Radiant Garden, he gets tickets to disney town and meets a bunch of pre-nobodied Organization XIII members, even making a few more friends! And also learns angst.
Sponsored by Organization XIII's Round Room, a perfect place to nort a boy Our Atrocity of Exalts are back in London but now they have to contend with some multiverse crossover as one of them turns into a Getimian. They investigate an incursion of Spring-heeled Jacks and check out Rowan's new hanging spot.
CONTENT WARNING - This episode contains some discussion of suicide and suicide ideation. This season of Backlog Dialogues Kingdom Hearts, we're turning our attention to the prequels, and where better to start than the tragedy of Roxas during his time at Organization XIII? That's right, it's 358/2 Days, where we spend all day visiting Disney worlds to do same-y missions and all evening hanging out on the clocktower eating ice cream. Or we would do the first one if this wasn't mercifully just a cutscene compilation, thus we get to only go over the good bits! We really dig into Axel as a character in this one, and meet yet another person that came from Sora: the mysterious 14th organization member, Xion. We also delve in to just how much an abusive cult leader Xemnas is, and most importantly, we truly and finally lay to rest the most important question: Do Nobodies have Hearts? (spoiler alert, they do)(Also DiZ is a dick)
It's the completion episode for Kingdom Hearts 2! First we try our damnest to talk about Atlantica and even as we do our discussions meander off in to other places. Nice try, John. Then we visit the Hundred Acre Woods for existentialism, alchoholism, and drug induced vision quests with Winnie the Pooh. We do a sweep of all the assorted minigames in the world, including a sidequest to beat up a bunch of mysterious black cloaked mushrooms. Finally, we finish with a sweep of the hard content, starting with Sephiroth. Then we take trip through one of the hardest optional dungeons in gaming, the Cavern of Rememberance, and its absurd trash hallway, the Transport to Rememberance. At the end of the hall we find data battle rematches against all the members of Organization XIII, and finish off with one of the best optional fights in gaming, Lingering Will.
Due to technical complications, this episode is a rerecording of an episode that you'll never get to hear! Don't worry, this version is better anyway. It's the start of the Kingdom Hearts 2 World Tour, as we speed run through very flimsy revisit world plots. We start in Land of the Dragons and accomplish nothing of note but do meet Xigbar and maaaaybe Riku? In Beast's Castle we go through some weird Beauty and the Beast fanfic while dealing with the least important member of Organization XIII, Xaldin. In Port Royal we touch base with the freakish facsimiles and meet Luxord. And finally in Olympus Coliseum we take part in the Hades Cup and rescue Auron from a fate worse than death: being immortalized as a Funko Pop.
It's Final Fantasy Day(YAY!) as we return to Twilight Town and Hollow Bastion! Oh and then we learn how to computer in Space Paranoids. We poorly try to put a pitch filter on a voice to make John sound like Donald for a scene. Saix and Lexaeus get our Organization XIII discussion focus. We meet the weirdest Final Fantasy cameo in the fairy forms of Yuna, Rikku, and Paine. Yes, this is weirder than Setzer. Tifa decides to roll an investigation check using her Strength score. Stitch shows up literally out of nowhere to be the best summon in the game. Mickey says the single greatest line in all of Kingdom Hearts.
This week, finish Kingdom Hearts II by going to Twilight Town and The World That Never Was. We are now in the eleventh hour, and it's time for a large story dump and a massacre with the remaining survivors of Organization XIII! We get all of our questions answered about Roxas, including the origins of his name. Not only that, but we find out who Naminé is a Nobody of, and explain how that happens, and Riku returns! Also, Scott and Jason compare their endgame results as well.
This week, we go to the worlds of Tron and return to Hollow Bastion in Kingdom Hearts II. It's Kingdom Hearts II's mid-season finale. Where we return to Hollow Bastion and learn why Organization XIII is trying to control Kingdom Hearts and everything we thought we knew from Kingdom Hearts I was untrue. Scott gets to play in Space Paranoids, where it's based on his favorite movie Tron! Lots of action, lots of Final Fantasy, and what almost looks like a major character death (NO WAY DISNEY WOULD ALLOW THAT CHARACTER TO GO!). Before we go into one of the biggest moments of the game so far, Jason and Scott talk about what they thought of the Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers movie and talk about those Kingdom Hearts references.

With the release of Kingdom Hearts 3 marking one of the craziest waits in video game history, now felt like a good time for John and Chris to sit and talk their thoughts on the series as a whole after briefly teasing it way back in the first episode. And boy, does it get heated, especially on Chris's side of things. Highlights include our mutual opinions on why the first game's narrative remains the strongest, Why John generally loves the series bar some iffy portable entries while Chris is more apprehensive, why everyone in Organization XIII can go jump off a cliff as far as Chris is concerned, what needs to change as far as writing and cutscene direction, and the awkward stuff you have to bring up any time someone mentions "Best Girl" for the series. We also give our initial thoughts on KH3 so far (Chris had only finished the first world and John was maybe 2/3 through when we recorded this) and try to remain light on spoilers while critiquing the writing and gameplay. (Also, this might have my favorite end-of-episode stinger yet.) Welcome back to Lore Reasons: Kingdom Hearts, our dizzying exploration of Disney and Square-Enix's massive RPG crossover. When we first began to explore Sora's journey through the many worlds of Kingdom Hearts, our memories were fresh from watching cutscene compilations and explainer videos and our bodies were powered by the strength of overpriced beer. But now, weeks later, we have no memories, no beer, and, uh, nobodies. Fuck.Join us as we respond to some very helpful corrections and then move through three whole games on this week's episode: 358/2 Days, Kingdom Hearts 2, and Re:coded. We learn more about Organization XIII, the many residents of Sora's heart, the digital world, and, uh... let me ask Natalie, our intrepid Lore Master really quick...Okay. She says "And Riku was there." So, that. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Ish & Justin are jumping into their Gummi Ship, putting on their Mickey Ears, & zipping up all their zippers as they take on trivia on Disney, Final Fantasy, Heartless, Nobodies, Organization XIII–really a turducken stuffed into a cornucopia of trivia. End Boss Andrew Linde (co-founder, Benview Network) quizzes our hosts on the “Kingdom Hearts”...

Hello and welcome back to another episode of Kingdom Hearts Union! This bro-cast is brought to you by Branden who is joined once again by Churro and they dive right into the content. As always, first up is the news and there was some exciting information. The guys talk about how the D23 trailer that was shown was actually in engine and how the visuals are said to be in an early state and are still being refined. Nomura also reported on something called Attraction Flow in the battle system for KH3. Unfortunately, we don't know much about it yet. And in typical Nomura fashion, he said that there are new components of KH3 that haven't been revealed yet (vague). After lots of discussion, the guys move onto your responses to the Burning Question from last week which dealt with what secret bosses should be in KH3 (that haven't been in the game already). You did not disappoint with your answers. Don't forget to get your answers in for the new Burning Question which is "What do you hope to see from Kingdom Hearts in 2014?" Next up are your questions which the duo answers, but this time brings a special twist. The guys have gone back into the list of questions that have been asked over the last three years and chose some of the ancient ones to answer! The bros talk about things like what would their personal key blades look like, would should be in the limited edition version of KH3, and which Organization XIII members would they want to get to know more about! Enjoy the throwback questions but don't leave just yet. The show rounds out with a kickin' Hollow Bastion remix which you will certainly enjoy. We hope you enjoyed the show and we'll see you again in a few weeks!
