This podcast is part of WPSC's StigmaFree in Washington initiative, a partnership with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Take the StigmaFree Pledge: end stigma, create hope. In this episode, Anita Sulaiman, Chair of WPSC's Addressing Stigma And Bias Workgroup, talks to Carrie Thompson, teacher, writer and suicide loss survivor and Mark Leeper, Executive Director of Disability Action Center – Northwest, Inc., a suicide survivor, about mental health and suicide. We thank our two guests for their courage and eloquence in sharing their personal stories, giving us a window into what it is like to be struggling with mental illness. What you are about to hear is an incredibly candid and insightful conversation on subjects that, for too long, have been taboo. This interview is refreshingly frank. Some of the difficult questions we tried to answer: Does stigma play a role? How does it impact a person who has a mental health condition? How do you cope? What do they, as a suicide and suicide loss survivor, want people to know? What do they wish people knew? How does one find support? Where do we go from here? Our aim is to lift the veil of stigma on mental illness and suicide and shine a light on the underlying issues, so that those among us who live with mental health conditions can get the support they need to lead healthy lives. Additional resources can be found on our website: https://www.qualityhealth.org/wpsc/other-resources/public-resource-center/#1616535969890-2924806f-5374. Originally Recorded December 14, 2021 Trigger Warning: The following podcast is a candid interview that contains mentions and descriptions of suicide, self-harming acts as well as other references to mental health disorders that some listeners may be sensitive to or find disturbing. Please know that resources for help and support are available. Listener discretion is advised.

Originally Recorded - December 7th 2016 JERRY'S VERSION OF EPISODE ONE, or at least a rough outline. Aight, last week was Good Cop episode regarding TPM but this week frustrations and letdowns abound. It doesn't happen too often but Jerry does occasionally unleash some harsh crits on some Star Wars. Sure, he can find enjoyment in the prequels but that doesn't mean he isn't still carrying a LOT of PAIN! "This alarming chain of events"?, problems with the movie's pacing, ESB'S redacted wampas, cutting on Director’s cuts, Lucas’ Jerry-vexing reinterpretation of his original prequel outline & his pedantic fine-tooth combing over Obi-Wan’s not-so-reckless checklist of events, Steve not being at all down with the fact that the Clone Wars involved…clones?, Jerry's "rough outline" reconstruction of what was "supposed to be" in Episode One as per Obi-Wan's retelling, and that time George Lucas lied to him. Corrections: Jerry refers to Shmi Skywalker as Padme'. The boys end this episode saying that next time would deal with Episode II but apparently that fell by the wayside because... it isn't. No word yet on WHY they lied but they send their apologies, whatever that helps.

Believe In The Mission In What You’re Doing "That is so important, the startup market is very saturated. There is a new app or little tech gadgets, and they can be cool, but if it doesn’t grind your gears you may not be passionate about it to persevere. If you have a core belief, you will attach yourself from what the customers are saying and what you're hearing. You will take the positive/negative feedback and learn from it. By believe in the mission, it will help you get through your ups and downs in business." Be Persistent "Know what you’re doing and believe in what you’re doing! Keep working through things, but still be strong in your own mentality. Three pieces of advice out of the 100 you hear, may be valid, but be strong and confident. Lastly, be wiling to listen." Be a Team Player "You have your palm, but attached to your palm, you have your fingers. Each individual finger adds power. You’re the ceo, you’re the glue, you need experts in marketing, development, HR, PR, and once you have that team of individuals. It's your job to get the most out of them." #Timestamp 00:30: Introduction 01:10: Passion 02:20: Struggles in Business 04:00: Having Users Use Your Platform 08:35: Failure 11:15: Habits 12:20: How do you network? 14:35: Life as an entrepreneur 16:45: Formula for success 18:00: Believe in the mission in what you're doing, Be Persistent, and Be a Team Player 21:35: Mac and Cheese or Fufu Ofo Ezeugwu Twitter: https://twitter.com/ofoezeugwu Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ofoezeugwu35 Business Website: http://www.whoseyourlandlord.com Website: http://www.ofoezeugwu.com Originally Recorded: December 14, 2015 __________ Techie, Millennial Author, WWE Fan, Podcaster. Don’t Look at Competition Too Much "There is always going to be competition, there are always people doing than you, and its also easy to be jealous. Competition isn’t a bad thing. Just because your buddy is making millions, and you’re making only $30k, is ok. Trust your path." If Everyone is Doing the Same Thing, Do Something Different Tyson used to worked at a car dealership and it was custom to shake a customers hand and greet them at the door. So every sales person would constantly stay in the same spot, expecting the people to walk in. It would be at that point that they would hope to get the sale. Well, if the best sales person is doing that exact same thing, try and find a different strategy that they aren't doing. So stand in a different spot, maybe go to the back and work your way to the front. “Rookie” entrepreneurs look at the same industry and try to replicate it, Tyson realized that everyone was educating people about sports. So Tyson decided to go a different route. Have a Good Team Around You "Have people push you and bring you back down to reality. Money is a big portion in business, but have those people who can tell you it’s ok to be where you’re at." Know What You Want "One thing that is very common, it’s not that people start a business and fail, but when that person becomes successful, the success may not be what they wanted. For example: Do you like to travel? Do you want a large office? Do you want a lot of money?..." Figure out what you want in business and go from there. You Don't Know Anything "Everything you think you know, you don't. Go out and solicit advice. If you don't understand an industry or if you question what you're doing or something within your company happens and you are unsure of. Go out and find people that can answer the question." Said Zubin Teherani. Sell It Before You Build It "Sometimes you think it's (your business) a great idea, and you want to pursue it, but the only real validation are your customers. With Leagueside before we started, we sold something we didn't have. We sold it and then our customers totally saw the value in what we were bringing to the table and then finally we realized we were onto something." Said Zubin Teherani. Said Zubin Teherani Zubin wants to also discuss how important Venture for America meant to him. Although, he did not speak about it in the podcast. Here is another take away from Zubin. "Another important thing about becoming an entrepreneur is surrounding yourself with other kickass people. I was fortunate enough to join Venture for America post-graduation which is a 2-year fellowship whose mission is to launch the next generation of entrepreneurs. VFA sends recent graduates to work for startups in emerging cities like Detroit and Cleveland, and really engrained this idea of social entrepreneurship in me.
