Things Discussed: Tony Alford: What does it say about Ohio State? Ryan Day's program might have a culture problem. If he loses to Michigan [they get to play one or two more times but] he's out, right? Seth checks OSU's schedule; somehow they got just @Oregon and vs PSU out of the Big Ten powers, so yeah, he could get to Michigan unscathed. You'd think Alford wouldn't be worried about job prospects if Day is fired; he pulled the ripcord early, which means there's something making being the RB coach under Ryan Day/Chip Kelly intolerable. Brian: Could be the offense doesn't let the RBs do their thing. Tony Alford: What does it say about Sherrone Moore? Guys wanna come work for him. Sam: They lost Adegoke because it got leaked so they kept this one quiet. Brian: That speaks to Moore's organization that they got the background checks and everything done. Seth: Taking a coach 2 practices into spring is bigger than getting their signs because by this point they have a plan, and they've already started talking about what they're doing for The Game. Sherrone: Good early signs. Had a competent assistants process, has a plan with recruiting, prevented Martindale from using up a staff spot. Making big baller moves, like how Harbaugh came in with satellite camps, etc. Losing Hart: Plenty. He was a *great* RB coach, a great judge of talent, and a great Michigan player. Seth: This exposes OSU culture issues. The Mattison comp: Matty got a title bump and $600k raise, but money can't buy the kind of Jerry Hanlon love he gave up to go to OSU, so there had to be something else. It turned out that something else was Don Brown was a Buddy Ryan, and as much as we love Brown it was a sign that Michigan needed a culture change. Quinten Johnson: not a small deal. Good NIL (more valuable to college than pros), great for Michigan, not a replacement for Sabb but does allow them to maybe start Q-Jo and try Moore at nickel, which can ameliorate the loss of Mike Sainristil, who was the QB of the defense at nickel. Wink Defense: Need to stop overplaying the differences between him and Minter, because Giants defense had more plays than any other NFL team inside their own 40, also once you have Jyaire Hill ready to go you can play a lot more man. Break: Sam mentions more guys who wanted to come work for Sherrone. Wink: You guys are doing stuff I wasn't even doing with the Giants. Brian: That's the Mikey Factor. Pernell McPhee for support staff: Pahokee guy that Rich Rod wanted, Ravens guy under Mike Macdonald who can step into LB job in the future. Lionel Stokes: Defensive analyst who worked with Morgan at Louisiana, been a DC and DB coach at Jackson State, gonna have big shoes to fill from Mallory.

In honor of 'Cardinals Week' for the Vikings and Pat P, we had to bring on an Arizona legend and Anquan Boldin certainly fits the bill! Quan joins us to discuss his upbringing in Pahokee, Florida, to arriving at Florida State as a quarterback and leaving Tallahassee as a wide receiver. He played well in college, but dominated once he got to the pros, winning Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2003. Boldin remembers just how bad the Cardinals roster was when he got to Arizona and his feelings when the organization drafted Larry Fitzgerald #3 overall the very next season. What does he think Fitz's chances are to return to the NFL and AZ? AB eventually won a title with the Ravens, but the 2008 Super Bowl loss to the Steelers still haunts him. We transition to his time in Baltimore which included some heartbreaking losses but also some amazing wins. Anquan is eligible for the Hall of Fame next year and shares his thoughts on potential induction before the Superlatives part of our show! Software Generated Transcript; may contain spelling and grammatical errors Today I am talking with Lieutenant paramedic, Andre Perez. He is a 22 year, well, almost 22 year veteran of orange County fire rescue getting hired back in April of 1999. I think you did have some previous [00:01:00] fire department experience before coming to orange County. I did. I did. Yep. I worked at a small department in Palm beach County called Pahokee, and I was there about six and a half years. Did you just make that name up? I did not, but they no longer exist. So they still have the history and, uh, they were actually taken over by Palm beach County several years ago. So you have been the president of local 2057 for how many years? Um, I've been president for about seven years now and that's in totality. Cause I think you took. A little bit of a break, right? Yeah. Um, I call it a, I call it timeout, if you will. I, uh, I served one term and our terms are three years and, um, I ran for reelection and did not win. So I was out for about a year and a half. [00:02:00] Um, that person ended up having to step down and I was asked to come back and, um, so I came back and had been president ever since. All right. And you worked your way, as you know, I think you started off as just a union rep and then became secretary and then vice-president and so on and so forth. Yep. Um, so it started out, um, Actually was being precepted by Jason Brown to become a paramedic. And, uh, he worked his way to become the union vice president at the time. Um, so he would talk to me about all the cases and things like that. And he actually recruited me to be a staff representative. So he hired me on his staff. Um, then, uh, after a few years I became the secretary in 2007. That's an elected position. Um, after five years almost completing my second term, um, decided to [00:03:00] run for president. So, um, in 2012 is when I first became president altogether. It's been about 19 years working for the union in some capacity. So staff, uh, secretary and then president. Okay. Yeah. I thought for some reason that you had, uh, actually served as vice-president, but when you were elected president. Who was your vice-president Darrell McChrystal? That's right. Darryl McChrystal was actually, uh, the force that held down the union, um, in the sense of creating stability when we didn't have a stable, um, uh, person at the president level. So, um, and what I mean by that is we just had, you know, some very short terms, uh, presidents at the time, and Darrell [00:04:00] McChrystal as the vice president always stepped up to be the interim. And, uh, he always helped the incoming president, um, with advice leadership and those types of things to make sure that the ship didn't sink, uh he's uh, he's somewhat of a legend and. The, the state of Florida, as far as unions go, like what, I know he held a position at the state. Yeah, he was, um, he was our district vice president at the state level. Um, here covering the, all the locals in central Florida. Um, I believe he served for two, uh, maybe two and a half terms, um, at that level. And, uh, it is important to note that while he was serving the vice-president at the state level, he was still always the vice president. I'm here with our local 2057. It's pretty incredible. But the one thing that I [00:05:00] wanted to get into at some point is recognize how much the, the international and the state level, um, The role that they play in developing their union officers at conventions and or conferences, that sort of thing, the different leadership classes. And, um, I know working can in the union for 19 years, the amount of classes that you've I had to have gone to is pretty extensive. Yeah, I will have to give the international credit and, um, even our state level piggybacks off of the international's classes, um, as we do here in the local level, um, our union at the international level, um, probably provides the best...
Florida Surgeon General Scott Rivkees is launching an investigation into reports that more than 1,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses were damaged last week in Palm Beach County. Gov. Ron DeSantis wants to know how it happened. Also, on today’s Sunrise: — DeSantis said that in Pahokee while announcing a new pod to provide vaccinations for people who live far from Palm Beach County's urban centers. But the credit goes to former FSU and NFL player Anquan Bolden … who comes from the Glades. — And since he had an NFL all-star by his side, the Governor couldn’t resist talking about this weekend’s Super Bowl in Tampa. — Students and faculty at the University of Florida speak out against the effort to force everyone to return to campus for in-person classes. They say UF leaders are downplaying the threat of COVID-19 and putting lives at risk because they’re afraid of budget cuts from Tallahassee. — A Senate committee approves a bill that would give the corrections department the authority to release older inmates who face serious medical problems. — Two Democrats discuss filing bills to kill M-CORES, the multibillion-dollar project to build three new toll roads through some of the last undeveloped areas of the state. — And finally, a Florida Man (and state lawmaker) says he got his mask in his mouth, so there’s no room for his foot.

Tucked between Lake Okeechobee and Florida’s vast Everglades, the towns of Pahokee and Belle Glade are known as “Muck City” because of the dark soil that fuels one of the largest sugarcane crops on the planet. Muck City is home to one of the greatest rivalries in football – between Pahokee and Glades Central High Schools. These two powerhouses produce more professional football players per capita than anywhere else, including NFL stars Anquan Boldin, Santonio Holmes, Andre Waters, Rickey Jackson, Fred Taylor, Jimmy Spencer and Jessie Hester. Filmed at both schools in 2019, CuriosityStream’s first original docu-series 4th and Forever: Muck City documents the emotional roller coaster behind this ongoing rivalry – from the hopeful days of training camp to the high stakes of the annual “Muck Bowl,” one of the most intense match-ups in high school sports. The eight-part series takes viewers beyond the gridiron, presenting an inspiring portrait of an American community united in its goal to help their youth succeed despite daunting challenges. Inspired by faith, family and football, DJ Boldin, a Pahokee alumnus and brother of NFL star Anquan Boldin, uses his life experiences and personal beliefs to coach his beloved Blue Devils of Pahokee. Before returning to Pahokee, Boldin was an Offensive Assistant in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers and played for the Detroit Lions and in the Canadian Football League. Coach Boldin can discuss the new series, why this region has become famous for creating NFL stars, and his community’s commitment to help young people achieve a better life.

Death of Pahokee transgender woman sheds light on race and identity The murder of an African-American transgender woman from Pahokee has created a lot of concerns in South Florida's transgender community. Advocates say while investigators still work on a motive there's a spotlight on what's becoming a larger nationwide issue. “Hopefully a resolution to the situation by showing people that it's an issue,” said Compass Community Center Transgender Youth Program Coordinator Lucas O'Ryan. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sweden's highest peak shrinks, loses tallest status, thanks to a warmer climate Morgan Hines, USA TODAYPublished 11:54 a.m. ET Sept. 11, 2019 | Updated 12:01 p.m. ET Sept. 11, 2019 If you think it's hot now, just wait. The 2019 documentary Pahokee is a landmark project for filmmakers Ivete Lucas and Patrick Bresnan and a sign of hope for the rural South Florida community whose story they tell. An official selection in 2019 Sundance and South by Southwest Film Festivals, Pahokee won the Miami Film Festival’s 2019 Knight Made in Miami Award. Perched on the Southeastern shore of Lake Okeechobee in the Everglades, forty miles west and a world apart from affluent West Palm Beach, Pahokee is named after the Seminole word meaning "grassy waters.” In the film, we follow four students as they navigate the hope and heartbreak of their senior year at Pahokee High School. All eyes are on the rituals of football, prom and graduation in the town these teenagers call home. First Solo Cross Country! This episode of the Student Pilot Journal documents my first successful solo cross country from Valkaria (X59) to Pahokee (PHK). Notice that I said successful. I had previously tried to accomplish it but low ceilings caused me to play it safe and turn around about 15 miles out. Better safe than sorry. I chose to get flight following for the entire CC. I have to say that flight following makes things so much easier. It never hurts to have another set of eyes on your route. This episode only shows the trip to PHK. I forgot to plug the audio cable into the camera when I changed tapes at Pahokee so the trip back was noisy. It was probably a good thing because I started back trying to hook up with Melbourne's VOR at the North side of the lake and soon discovered how flaky the VOR is. I can only imagine what my ground track looked like as I was trying to intercept it. All in all things went very well aside from my Pahokee landing which was way off centerline due to slacking on the sideslip over the runway. Crosswinds are commonplace at Pahokee airport.Download the video
