Hey Rainmakers! Chelsey and Stephen here, and today's episode is for anyone who wants to strengthen their relationships—whether you're thriving or struggling. We sat down with relationship experts Stacey and Paul Martino, the creators of Relationship Development and authors of The Missing Piece. Their journey started when their own marriage nearly fell apart, but through trial and transformation, they uncovered a method that has helped thousands of couples turn things around—often with just one partner doing the work. If you've ever felt like you and your spouse are stuck in the same frustrating patterns, or that traditional marriage advice just isn't working, you're not alone. Stacey and Paul break down why so much relationship advice today is outdated and how their relationship development methodology flips the script. Instead of both people needing to “meet halfway” or compromise, they explain why one person can create a ripple effect of change in the relationship. And guess what? It actually works. We also dive into some big (and controversial) topics—like why traditional couples therapy might be doing more harm than good. Stacey and Paul explain how the wrong approach can actually push couples further apart, while equipping just one person with the right skill set can create real, lasting change. They also share why compromise isn't the key to a healthy relationship (mind-blowing, right?) and how small shifts in communication can break old cycles and bring deeper connection. This episode is packed with practical insights, powerful mindset shifts, and hope for anyone looking to create a stronger, healthier, and more fulfilling relationship. If you've ever felt like you're doing all the work and your partner isn't responding—this conversation is for you. Stacey and Paul's book The Missing Piece is available now, and it's full of tools to help transform relationships at any stage. Check it out at MissingPieceBook.com and connect with them at RelationshipDevelopment.org. If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend who needs encouragement. And as always, we're cheering you on in life, business, and relationships!
Paul Martino calls in to talk about his friend John Burnett.

How do you inspire change in others without pushing them away? Paul Martino never really enjoyed drinking. It was something he did to fit in. When he and Stacey Martino became intentional about their health, they decided to change their relationship with alcohol. During a difficult time in their marriage, Stacey tried pushing Paul to do things her way but when she shifted her focus to her own growth, Paul felt inspired to change on his terms. Now, 25 years later, they haven't had a drink, by choice, because it aligns with their values. In this episode, Paul and Stacey join Annie to share tools to navigate different drinking habits as a couple and how to inspire change in others without pressure or judgment. In this episode, Annie, Paul, and Stacey will discuss: - Why social drinking never felt right for Paul - Prioritizing health and rethinking alcohol - How to navigate different drinking habits as a couple - Managing triggers and responses in relationships - Owning your growth without relying on others - Choosing patience over judgment - How to inspire change without being forceful - Building trust while respecting each other's choices - Letting go of “if you loved me, you would” thinking - Addressing safety concerns with care - Facing challenges and growing through discomfort - And other topics… Related Episodes: EP 41: Relationships, Marriage & Alcohol with Stacey Martino https://thisnakedmind.com/ep-41-relationships-marriage-alcohol-with-stacey-martino/ EP 278: Reader Question – How Can Friends and Family Support Someone Who Is Changing Their Relationship With Alcohol? https://thisnakedmind.com/ep-278-reader-question-how-can-friends-and-family-support-someone-who-is-changing-their-relationship-with-alcohol EP 364: Reader Question – Do I Have to Choose Between Being Alcohol-Free or My Relationship? https://thisnakedmind.com/ep-364-reader-question-do-i-have-to-choose-between-being-alcohol-free-or-my-relationship/ Resources Mentioned: Paul & Stacey's Website: relationshipdevelopment.org Paul & Stacey's Book, The Missing Piece: A Proven Method to Single-Handedly Transform Your Relationship and Create Harmony in Your Home: https://www.amazon.com/Missing-Piece-Single-Handedly-Transform-Relationship/dp/1401993907 Ready to take the next step on your journey? Stacey & Paul Martino were at the brink of divorce, when Stacey realized she needed to make a grand change in her life. That was 25 years ago. Their relationship has been strong since, and in realizing what they have, felt they needed to share it with everyone. They are the authors of "The Missing Piece: A Proven Method to Single-Handedly Transform Your Relationship and Create Harmony in Your Home." It's totally fair to say that the CLT running community is full of characters. Our guest today certainly fits into that category. And, quite frankly, we can't believe it's been this long before we invited Paul Martino to the program. A longtime runner, a 50 states and DC finisher, and former executive director of the Let Me Run program, Paul has been a recurring character, if you will, in the CLT running scene. Paul's done his own share of running, too, and he has a pretty special milestone on the horizon. He'll get into that, and share some other gems – like his high school race walking team – as we (finally) get him in the studio with us. Lindsey McGee co-hosts with DC Lucchesi as we welcome Paul Martino to the Running Around Charlotte Podcast, presented by Novant Health Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
Can you believe it's already February?!? What's going on folks? We'll get into some of the good, the bad, and ugly in state and national politics. Today: Have we seen the end of Moms for Liberty? Don't count on it. GOP operative Clarice Shillenger's hypocrisy heading to trial. Who knows, maybe we'll find out the Paul Martino will be chipping in on her legal bills too? I mean, he did bankroll her attacks on public schools…but that was before his Philly restaurant went bust…so, who knows. And we're seeing Souderton School District and the Kutztown Area School District organizing to beat back the kind of right-wing extremism we've been dealing with in Pennridge and Central Bucks. New coalition, PAWInS, launches to coordinate information and organizing against extremist attacks on public schools in PA. If we want a progressive future, we need progressive media. Paul Martino is the picture of success. The loving wife, great family, beautiful home and successful business. Paul owns one of the largest landscape construction companies in NJ building parks, athletic fields, stadiums, synthetic turf and general construction. There has been a lot crammed into the 63 revolutions around the sun.Paul's journey began a long time ago, growing up in Bloomfield NJ when he was first introduced to drugs and alcohol. Escalating to more frequent usage and harder drugs, by the time high school rolled around Paul would be considered by most to be an addict. Being an intelligent young man, Paul found a way to manipulate the system and get good grades as well as maintain being the captain of the football team. All the good things in life were coming his way even though he was a full blown addict and in his senior year, the law came knocking. Being set up by a friend with an undercover narcotics officer, Paul and 19 others were arrested and facing jail time. Somehow through charm, Paul was allowed to attend college but the bad behavior continued and fell into full beast mode. If you have been following Silicon Valley and tech news, you might be wondering what the future of tech startups in general are and what trends venture capitalists are following nowadays. Our guest, Paul Martino, might be able to answer those questions for you. Paul Martino is the founder of eight companies including Tribe; one of the world's first social networks, and aggregate knowledge a big data advertising company. Paul holds over a dozen patents on core social networking concepts, content targeting and recommendation systems. This is a fun, fascinating and deeply insightful conversation with one of our favorite thinkers in the tech startup world. You're listening to Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different. We are the real dialogue podcast for people with a different mind. So get your mind in a different place, and hey ho, let's go. Paul Martino on Venture Capital, Fundraising, and Market Sentiment The conversation begins with Paul Martino and Christopher Lochhead talking about the challenging environment for venture capitalists. Paul Martino acknowledges the tough 18 months, highlighting a temporary upswing but anticipating further challenges. Christopher shares mixed signals from CEOs, noting a tough market despite some positive indicators. Paul observes a significant change in fundraising capital availability in Q2, attributing it to increased confidence with NASDAQ's rise. As Christopher mentions entrepreneurs preferring angel investors over traditional VCs due to difficulties and lowered valuations, Paul disapproves of VC complacency during tough times and assures entrepreneurs that committed VCs like him are open for business, emphasizing their entrepreneurial mindset. He also understands the logic behind entrepreneurs relying on existing investors during market uncertainty. Paul Martino on the impact of market downturn on early- and late-stage companies They then continue to discuss the challenges faced by late-stage companies dealing with overvalued situations. Paul emphasizes the distinction between a down round and a recap, suggesting that a down round, while not ideal, is manageable. He also stresses the importance of CEOs accepting a realistic valuation to issue new options and retain employees, criticizing those who let ego hinder practical decisions. Christopher raises concerns about companies with significantly reduced growth rates, questioning their true value. Paul gives a hypothetical example of a $10 billion company dropping to $3 billion, highlighting the need for companies to adapt and not shy away from necessary adjustments to move forward. Paul Martino on San Francisco's decline and potential for recovery The conversation shifts to the topic of the decline of vibrant cities like San Francisco and Portland. Paul observes the eerie emptiness in once-bustling areas, expressing concern for the loss of the lively environment. Lochhead shares similar sentiments, reminiscing about the exciting times they experienced during previous boom periods. They discuss the root causes of these issues, focusing on policy changes like Prop 47 and Prop 57 in California that decriminalized theft under $1,000, leading to increased crime rates. Paul believes it will take a new generation of pragmatic leaders to address institutional problems and revive cities, estimating a 20-year timeframe for San Francisco's recovery. The conversation highlights their shared disappointment in witnessing the decline of the cities they once knew. On this episode of Out d'Coup LIVE, Aly is a Pittsburgh-based research analyst working on the state power mapping program at the grassroots watchdog group, LittleSis (you know, the opposite of Big Brother?). We'll be talking about her new report, "The American Petroleum Institute Love Pennsylvania, As Its Lobbying Shows." In 2022, the API spent at least $1.8 million on lobbying Pennsylvania politicians - that's more than any other state. Why is Big Oil going all in on PA? We'll get into the details. Aly previously spent 8 years as an environmental justice organizer at Pittsburgh UNITED and labor organizer at UFCW Local 1776. Over the years she has led campaigns to prevent the privatization of Pittsburgh's water system, to make drinking water safer and more affordable, and organized grocery store workers to win higher wages and safer working conditions during the COVID 19 pandemic. On this episode, your host, Oz Rashid, is joined by Paul Martino, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at VillageMD — a company that aims to change people's health outcomes — to talk about picking the person to build a culture of esprit de corps loyalty.Paul shares the pillars that make up a company with a mission to change the way healthcare is done and tells stories of the employees they hired for character more than anything, and why they remain loyal years later. He explains how VillageMD has built a culture of loyalty to keep turnover low and retention high.Paul describes his hiring mistakes and speaks about the one question he likes to ask prospective employees. He explains why their answers to one question show the real person instead of spotlighting things of slightly less importance, such as qualifications, experience, skills and so on. After all, things that can be taught are less important than character, which is instinctual.Resources mentioned:Paul Martino - https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-martino-1b03944/VillageMD - https://www.linkedin.com/company/villagemd/Nuts!: Southwest Airlines' Crazy Recipe for Business and Personal Success (book by Herb Keller) - https://www.amazon.com/Nuts-Southwest-Airlines-Business-Personal/dp/0767901843Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance (book by Angela Duckworth) - https://www.amazon.com/Grit-Passion-Perseverance-Angela-Duckworth/dp/1501111108Connect with our host, Oz Rashid, on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ozrashid. Paul Martino got 160 people elected to Pennsylvania school boards to battle Covid school closures. He was so successful that, in retaliation, the left has targeted his group with death threats, and more. He comes on to Charlie to talk about how his group achieved so much success despite so much organized liberal hostility. Donald Trump was indicted yesterday for misuse of campaign funds to pay hush money to porn star Stromy Daniels. He is the first former U.S. president to ever be charged with a crime. Trump's indictment comes less than a week after he launched his presidential campaign with a large rally and speech in Waco, TX. Waco was the site of the 1993 raid of the militant Branch Davidian religious compound that led to the deaths of nearly 80 people. Waco has been a rallying cry for white supremacists and the extreme right ever since. 38 migrants were killed and 27 seriously injured in a fire at a Mexican detention center in Ciudad Juarez. The continued unjust and cruel immigration policies in the U.S. - the “Remain in Mexico” policy, for example - helped create the conditions for the deaths. Will Bunch was dead on: "I wonder how much of the American downplaying of this nightmare in Ciudad Juárez is willful ignorance on our part — a refusal to confront our own shameful role in this episode. That's because the reason that refugees are overrunning the Mexican city — some estimates place the number at 20,000 — is that U.S. policy is forcing these migrants to stay south of the American border, their actual goal." According to a new report from the Kaiser Family Foundation, up to about 15 million people are now at risk of losing health insurance as COVID era rules that expand Medicaid and CHIP benefits are rolled back. A new study in the journal Nature, projects that deep water current around Antarctica could slow by 40% by 2050 if the current trajectory of climate change is not dramatically altered. A disrupted current could dramatically affect the climate, the flow of fresh water and oxygen, and the circulation of nutrients necessary to sustain marine life. Some first-graders in Waukesha, Wisconsin won't be singing “Rainbowland,” by Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton. They were supposed to sing the song about acceptance, coming together, and loving one another in their spring concert. Why? Because school administrators concluded that the song violated the district's new “Controversial Issues in the Classroom,” policy initiated by a new right-wing dominated school board. This week's horrific mass school shooting in Nashville is being used by right-wing politicians and pundits to stoke anti-trans hate. New reporting by Maddie Hanna in the Philadelphia Inquirer shows that Paul Martino's PAC, Back to School USA, is gearing up for the culture war. The PAC's website says it will be “taking the fight directly to the liberal teachers' union and special interest groups that are responsible for indoctrinating our children.” The Back to School USA PAC is planning on holding an April 7th fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago with right-wing founder of Project Veritas, James O'Keefe. Newly elected Representative Summer Lee is wasting no time in making her voice heard. Summer Lee is a co-sponsor of the newly introduced “Assault Weapons Ban of 2023.” She took to the House floor this week PA Senators Bob Casey and John Fetterman and OH Senator Sherrod Brown introduced the “Railway Accountability Act” that would help prevent the kind of disasters we just witnessed in East Palestine, OH. A coalition of more than two dozen environmental, faith, business, and healthcare groups sent a letter to Gov. Josh Shapiro this week urging him to keep Pennsylvania's commitment to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative as part of Shapiro's stated commitment to getting PA to net-zero emissions by 2050. And Temple University's president Jason Wingard steps down after an authorization of a no-confidence vote by the Temple's faculty union; a strike by graduate students, and the murder of Temple University Police Sgt. Christopher Fizgerald. And, yes, the Dungeons and Dragons movie, Honor Among Thieves hits the big screen today! Right now, many entrepreneurs are faced with a decision to pivot or fail. With the global shutdown during covid 19, the business and economic climate has changed forever. Four years ago, our guest today, Chris Benetti, was a tradesman working 13 hour days, 12 days in a row. Two years later, he was given the title of number #1 funnel designer in the southern hemisphere by Russell Brunson. He's worked with some of the biggest names in the internet marketing community including Alex Charfen, Steve Larsen, Stacey and Paul Martino, Rachel Pedersen, Marley Jaxx, and Blake Nubar. Not one to slow down, Chris has since shifted focus to building his own products. His recently launched MembersPRO software solution for membership sites and course builders is already getting rave reviews. You and I are in for a real treat, because today we're going half way around the world via the Internet to Australia, for a conversation with an incredible entrepreneur and human being, who figured out in a short amount of time, how to re-invent himself and create huge success in a very short amount of time. And that's a lesson we can all learn from right now.
