Former Coronation Street star Peter Ash joins the podcast fresh from Weatherfield to talk about his part in the Peter James thriller Picture You Dead.We help you choose what to watch at this year's Borderlines Film Festival. We hear about the exciting art exhibition coming to Malvern Theatres, all put together young creatives. And we discuss the groundbreaking stage show Good For A Girl. On our latest episode of the podcast, we have a natter about the goings on in Weatherfield between the 10th and the 14th February 2025 (Episodes #11,489 - 11,494) It's all going down at the General this week, as Kevin gets some bad news about test results whilst Rob plots his 'Get Out Of Jail Free' scheme with the help of newly besotted prison guard Mandy and - in an admittedly quite surprising turn of events - Lisa Swain herself! Meanwhile, over on the Street, Shona's shocked to discover the true culprit behind the fire at Number 8 - but will she help keep the heat off the arsonist? Also this week, Gemma makes a mate in the form of newcomer Lou, Mason's funeral takes place and Cassie and Steve get caught up in that Valentine's Day feeling! Up next on the podcast, it's the news, where we celebrate Peter Ash's latest win at the TV Choice Awards and take a look at this week's offerings on ITV Reloved. We round things off as usual with more of your fabulous feedback. Street Talk - 00:12:06 The Kabin - 02:24:25 Feedback - 02:35:37
After succumbing to MND earlier this month, Paul Foreman may no longer be with us, but Peter Ash is alive and kicking - and here on the podcast to chat about his six years playing Paul Foreman! We chat about what it was like to work with the MND Association to bring Paul's journey with the condition to screen, the importance of keeping an element of humour to the story, and reminisce over some of his earlier moments on the cobbles too. Also available as a video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/HNFMC0YrUtM
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown on the 9th and the 13th September 2024 (Episodes #11,359 - 11,362). There were tears aplenty this week as Paul finally succumbed to his MND in a dramatic episode on Monday which, though utterly heartbreaking at times, still managed to get in some of humour that's been running through this storyline since the start. With top notch performances from all the leads, we were very much satisfied with how the episode panned out - but will Billy and Bernie be able to put their differences aside to plan Paul the funeral he deserves? Also this week, Leanne manages to bring down Rowan, Tyrone resorts to desperate measures to stop Alina taking Dorin to Romania, and Swain makes a breakthrough in her secret pursuit of Joel. Up next in the podcast it's the Kabin, where we celebrate Peter Ash's win at the NTAs, and we round off the show with some of your feedback, including a passionate defence of the Swarla story! In our latest podcast, we have a good old natter about what went on in Corrie between the 11th and the 15th September (Episodes #11055 - 11060). It was a bit of a mixed bag this week, we thought, with a few great shocks and surprises sitting alongside some plots that really struggled to engage us - chief among which was the Stu and Eliza story. A stroppy pre-teen, a deadbeat dad trying to sell his daughter, a tussle with a copper leading to a character's brief arrest.. it all kind of feels like it has been done before, and with characters we cared more about, too! On the flip side, though, you've got Paul's continuing decline and that gut punch of an ending to Friday's episode - Peter Ash's performance continues to really impress us, and we're sure there are more heartbreaking scenes to come! Also this week, Dee-Dee goes on a date, the truth is out about Aadi and Courtney and Roy finds himself with a new house guest! There are a couple of big talking points in The Kabin this week, as Coronation Street announces a fan event in the new Visitor Centre next month, whilst a job advert for a new executive producer that's come online recently suggests it could be all change at the top soon! As always, we finish off the show with more of your feedback. Street Talk - 00:06:36 The Kabin - 01:59:17 Feedback - 02:25:40
When many of us learn about acts of evil, we might be tempted to shrink back in fear. However, when Peter Ash, founder of Under the Same Sun heard about the horrific abuses children with albinism suffered due to their disability, he knew he had to do something––even though, having albinism himself, could land him in danger as well. But he wasn't afraid because he knew the God who called him to this seemingly insurmountable assignment would go before him, walk beside, him, and give him everything he needed to advocate for those who, initially, had no voice. Reflecting upon all God has and is doing in and through the albinism community that is bringing God's light into some of the darkest places in our world, inspires us all to live more courageously for Christ. On our latest edition of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Weatherfield between the 24th and the 28th April (Episodes #10936 - 10941). We all knew it was coming, but that didn't stop Paul's diagnosis on Wednesday's episode of Corrie hitting us hard. The young builder is now facing a very difficult, and likely very short, future, and Peter Ash has been fantastic at portraying Paul's grief as he is forced to face up to the fact that he could only have a few years, or even fewer, left. Thank goodness for the lovely friendship he's fostered with Dee Dee, which has been the one shining light in this tale of woe! And speaking of misery, things have been pretty bleak for Amy this week too. Not only does she have to come face to face with Aaron at Nina's birthday party, but she also ends up in hospital after drinking herself unconscious in Victoria Gardens! Thank goodness she had serial passer outer Summer there to share some tips for staying alive! Also this week, Stephen nearly claims a pair of new victims, Hope schemes to come between Sam and Eliza and Eileen regrets encouraging George to find a new hobby... Up next it's The Kabin, where we find out what Helen Flanagan's been getting up to in her first week in South Africa - including being joined by another Corrie cast mate! We round things off as always with more of your lovely feedback. Street Talk - 00:12:02 The Kabin - 02:03:52 Feedback - 02:12:37
On this podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie showing in the UK between the 3rd and the 7th April (Episodes #10918 - 10923). This week, Paul is given the devastating news that his symptoms may be signs of motor neurone disease. That's right, it's time for another tragic Corrie illness storyline! We're sure Peter Ash will do an amazing job with it - and he certainly gave a heart wrenching performance this week - but is this kind of thing really what viewers are wanting to watch right now? Meanwhile, from one sad story to another, the news spreads that Amy is saying she was raped by Aaron. Very interesting to see which characters take which side here.. though we're definitely a bit surprised that some viewers are picking Team Aaron, too..! Also this week, an old friend of Glenda's arrives on the cobbles, Craig is worried about Faye and Jackson's developing friendship, and Damon claims he's turning over a new leaf - but do we believe him? Up next it's time for The Kabin, where we rate Corrie's April Fool's prank for this year before rounding things off with more of your lovely listener feedback. We are joined by Peter Ash, founder and director of Under the Same Sun, a nonprofit dedicated to the education and empowerment of persons with albinism in Africa. Due to superstition-based persecution, the hardships endured by those born with this condition in rural African communities are staggering to list: from abandonment, discrimination and untreated skin cancers to outright murder by one's own family. Peter felt called to help others with albinism and has dedicated years to growing his efforts in Tanzania. With a systematic, consistent, multi-pronged approach his organization has helped hundreds of youngsters, many survivors of muti violence. Under the Same Sun houses these children and offers them an education, putting them on a path to independence and prosperity.

More than helping build a modern state, the New York Stock Exchange was the driving force behind New York becoming a powerful financial center. How did that happen? Was it all keeping the early lead? Peter Ash shares insights from his archive, and more than that why he thinks the company's vault holds one of the keys to its future success.
On today's 87th episode of The Thriller Zone, I'm stoked to welcome national bestselling author Nick Petrie to the show. His runaway hit, The Runaway (sorry, I couldn't help myself) is one of those rare books you just have a hard time putting down. Seriously, I devoured it in record time. The only bad thing? One of the Crew's Favorite writers, Nick Petrie, joins the boys to discuss his 7th Peter Ash thriller, THE RUNAWAY. When Peter Ash rescues a stranded woman, he finds she's in far deeper trouble than he could ever imagine in the powerful new thriller in this bestselling and award-winning series. Don't miss this latest white-knuckler featuring the character Lee Child calls “the real deal.” War veteran Peter Ash is driving through northern Nebraska when he encounters a young pregnant woman alone on a gravel road, her car dead. Peter offers her a lift, but what begins as an act of kindness soon turns into a deadly cat-and-mouse chase across the lonely highways with the woman's vicious ex-cop husband hot on their trail. The pregnant woman has seen something she was never meant to see . . . but protecting her might prove to be more than Peter can handle. In order to save the woman and himself, Peter must use everything he has learned during his time as a Marine, including his knowledge of human nature, in order to escape a ruthless killer with instincts and skills that match—and perhaps exceed—Peter's own. “If you're not already on the Peter Ash train, jump aboard now. ABOUT THE BOOK: A man wanted by two governments, Peter Ash has found a simple, low-profile life in Milwaukee, living with his girlfriend June and renovating old buildings with his friend Lewis. Staying out of trouble is the key to preserving this fragile peace . . . but when Peter spots a suspicious armed man walking into a crowded market, he knows he can't stand by and do nothing. Peter does interrupt a crime, but it wasn't at all what he'd expected. The young gunman appeared to have one target and one mission--but when he escapes, and his victim vanishes before police arrive, it seems there is more to the encounter than meets the eye. Peter's hunch is proven correct when a powerful associate from his past appears with an interest in the crime, and an irresistible offer: if he and June solve this mystery, Peter's record will be scrubbed clean. While Peter and Lewis trace the gunman, reporter June digs into the victim of the incident, a man whose face rings a bell in her memory. As their parallel investigations draw together, they're thrust into the path of a ruthless tech thief, an eerily cheerful assassin, a brilliant and troubled inventor, and a revolutionary technology that could wreak devastation in the wrong hands. But for Peter, even more is at stake: this investigation is his only path to a life free from the threat of prosecution or prison. Before the end, he'll have to fight harder than ever before to ensure that freedom doesn't come at too high a cost. . . . ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Nick Petrie is the author of five novels in the Peter Ash series, most recently The Wild One. His debut, The Drifter, won both the ITW Thriller award and the Barry Award for Best First Novel, and was a finalist for the Edgar, Anthony, and Hammett Awards. Pride is a funny subject. I hold it up as an excellent goal and guide for our choices. A lot of people see it as something to avoid. I heard a fascinating interview recently that reminded that both are true. And that it's important to be clear on its destructive potential. So that's what I get into in this week's post. A word of warning: The discussion touches on a topic that can sound like it's part of the current political noise, but it's really not. Trust me, there's no way I want to get into that. :-) But it is super relevant to current events, so I hope you enjoy the post. Let me know your thoughts on this, too. It's an interesting topic for discussion. Enjoy! SUMMARY The difference between “good” and “bad” pride. The powerful effects of both kinds. Loved these SO much. Read all four in maybe 10 days. Super fun, too, because I thought maybe our 13-yr old boy would like them, too, and he is instantly hooked. His first sci-fi, and the first books we've enjoyed at the same time. Super fun. FINISHED: This is shocking, but I actually watched a TV series. Jack Ryan. Amazon Prime original. I NEVER do that. Somehow got started and just blasted through season 1. Just like it was a big novel. Very well done. Looking forward to Season 2. But weird to be watching instead of reading. Didn't like that part of it. Even more detached from people. CURRENT: Tear it Down. Nick Petrie. This is my second of his Peter Ash books. Like them a lot. One of my favorites on the genre. Introduction threw me off, though. Almost quit a couple of times. Didn't understand why it was happening. Glad I pushed through it. Loving it now. [ transcript ] Hey, it's David Levin. Hey there Word Nerds! Today I’m talking to Nicholas Petrie, author of the stunning debut THE DRIFTER, an explosive thriller written with a strong literary sensibility. In our conversation, we tackle a topic that many authors often struggle with: how do we write about something when we have no first-hand experience with it? This question goes deeper than "how do you write what you don't know?" After all, it's one thing to write historical fiction about a time period long ago and fill in those gaps using library research. But how do you write about characters whose experiences and backgrounds are different from your own without crossing the line and appropriating that experience in some way. We all know we should include diverse characters in our stories, but how does a writer actually do that without appropriating those experiences? In this episode, Nick opens up about his process, and talks about how he portrayed the experiences of war veterans on the page even he has never been in the military himself. If you've ever worried about this question of appropriation, this podcast interview is a must-listen! In this episode Nicholas and I discuss: The winding road to getting published. The importance of research in nailing your plot. The importance of language in nailing your prose. Writing characters who are different from you. Plus, Nicholas’s #1 tip for writers. About THE DRIFTER: THE DRIFTER draws its considerable strength from Petrie’s uncompromising portrayal of shattered war veterans, returned home and trying to reintegrate into the civilian world they left behind. The unforgettable protagonist, Peter Ash, came home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with only one souvenir: what he calls his “white static,” buzzing claustrophobia due to post-traumatic stress. Ash is drawn back to the past when an old friend from the Marines commits suicide. When he goes to Milwaukee to help the man’s widow, Ash makes a discovery—a suitcase filled with money and explosives—that leads him into an investigation of his friend’s death, which may take him back to the world he thought he’d left behind. Suspenseful and thrilling, and featuring a compelling new hero, THE DRIFTER is an exciting debut from a fresh voice in crime fiction. This is a gorgeous book, and if you're into crime fiction with a strong literary bent, this one will be right up your alley. If you choose to buy this book, we hope you'll consider doing so via this affiliate link (which gives DIY MFA a small commission at no cost to you). Thank you for supporting DIY MFA! About Nicholas Petrie: “I was never in the armed forces, but I swung a hammer for a living for many years,” Petrie writes in talking about the genesis of Peter Ash and THE DRIFTER. As part of his extensive research, Petrie says he “talked with a number of veterans about their experiences. In the course of these conversations, I felt like I came to understand these men and women in a way that I hadn’t before, and to truly admire them. Over and over, I encountered that extraordinary quality of character I tried to capture in Peter Ash—a happy warrior who sees every difficulty as a challenge to be overcome, and every challenge as an adventure. The more research I did, the more interested I became in the idea of what to do after your war is over. After the largest set of sustained military operations in decades, this is one of the singular challenges of our time. Many veterans come home and overcome these challenges, but some veterans have more difficulty, some due to physical injuries, some with the less tangible but no less real injuries of PTSD. I’ve tried to find both sides in this book.” A debut author, Nicholas received his MFA in fiction from the University of Washington and won Hopwood Award for short fiction while an undergraduate at the University of Michigan. His short story “At the Laundromat” won the 2006 Short Story Contest in the Seattle Review. A husband and father, he runs a home appraisal business in Milwaukee. What does it really mean to be "in the world but not of it?" Christians throughout the centuries have wrestled with the notion that elements of our faith put us at odds with elements of prevailing culture. Are you OK with being an odd ball?...
At 12, Adam is attacked by a machete-wielding butcher. His body parts are worth thousands on the black market because he has albinism. In Tanzania and surrounding countries, hundreds of people with albinism have been killed or mutilated because of the belief that their condition confers upon them magical powers. Many of the victims are children. I talk to Peter Ash, founder and director of Under the Same Sun, an NGO in Canada and Tanzania working to end this brutality. Peter tells me the story of Adam, a 12 year old Tanzanian boy with albinism who fights back and survives an attack.
