Vamos a conocerlo juntos.
Beacon actors will 'cold read' work Like thousands of actors before him, from Australia to Zimbabwe, Alexander Florez will rip open a sealed manila envelope tonight (May 16) and cold read a 2010 play, White Rabbit Red Rabbit, in the backyard of his Beacon home. Two other performers will take the plunge in yards on Saturday and Sunday. The premise - some call it a gimmick - is that everyone in a confined space takes an hour-long journey akin to a one-off jazz solo. Though details have leaked, audiences and the theater community (including reporters) have kept the broad outline and most revealing moments under wraps. The playwright, Nassim Soleimanpour, includes a clause in the contract for producers: "This play is not overtly political and should not be portrayed as such. It operates on a deeper, metaphoric level, and very expressly avoids overt political comment. All media and press agents have to keep in mind that the playwright lives in Iran. We therefore ask the press to be judicious in their reportage." Florez is a math teacher who will never pass muster with the grammar police. He avoids capital letters as an act of resistance and his email tag links to "the case for lowercase" style guide on his website, which includes instructions about turning off caps on devices and in programs. "I have a lot of respect and disdain for academia," he says. "I'm impressed with education but also dismayed with the gatekeeping and barriers to entry. One way to oppress is by making complicated grammar and spelling rules the standard for everyone, even though a select few invented them." Pushback against authority is reflected in the play. According to Soleimanpour, he wrote it after he refused to serve in the Iranian military and the regime denied him a visa to leave the country. (He is now thought to live in Berlin.) The production requires props, but the playwright's website touts the lack of sets, directors and rehearsals. Studying for his practical teaching certificate at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, Florez fell in with the acting crowd (he works at the Manitou School in Philipstown). After bouncing around the Hudson Valley, he moved to Beacon in 2022 and got involved with the improv and comedy scene. White Rabbit Red Rabbit had an off-Broadway run in 2016: Nathan Lane, Whoopi Goldberg and Alan Cumming, among others, unsealed the script and got to work - for the first and last time. Playbill called it "the most-talked about (and least-talked about) new show." Beacon resident Jamie Mulligan read the script to prepare the actors, gather props and make staging suggestions. But per the legal agreement, the plot and other elements may not be divulged or discussed by anyone involved. At first, Florez figured he'd reach out to local performance venues, but Mulligan suggested staging the play at an art gallery, coffeehouse or other offbeat space. James Phillips, a theater professor at Mount Saint Mary, will read in his yard on Saturday and Twinkle Burke walks the high wire on Sunday outside the home of Hannah Brooks (with contingency plans for inclement weather). The play stems from experimental theater of the 1960s, Mulligan says, and "requires the audience and actor to encounter these subjects simultaneously, a connection that creates a level of spark that can only happen when everyone learns about this together." Broad outlines address elements of existential oppression and the role of individuals in society. "Someone told me that every play is about hope, so it places the human condition into primal conflicts, like man versus nature or man versus god," says Mulligan. That so many details have remained a secret for 15 years "speaks to the integrity of theater-makers." White Rabbit Red Rabbit will be performed by Florez at 7 p.m. at 119 Howland Ave. in Beacon, at 7 p.m., on Saturday (May 17) at 24 Willow St. by Phillips and at 3 p.m. on Sunday at 99 E. Main St. by Burke. Tickets are $10 to $32.24 at dub.sh/white-rabbit.
Israel Florez, a former security supervisor at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles, testified on the first day of Sean "Diddy" Combs' federal trial and described a 2016 incident involving Combs and Cassie Ventura. Florez told the jury he witnessed security footage showing Combs physically assaulting Ventura in a hotel hallway. According to his account, the footage captured Combs throwing a glass object at Ventura, dragging her by her hair, kicking her while she was on the ground, and later slamming her into a wall near the elevator. Florez said the footage disturbed him enough that he reported it to hotel management and saved a copy, fearing the original would be deleted.Florez further testified that Combs later confronted him about the tape and attempted to silence him by offering a bribe. He said Combs handed him an envelope filled with cash and instructed him to get rid of the footage. Florez refused and claimed he interpreted the encounter as an effort to cover up the incident. The government presented this testimony as part of a broader narrative that Combs used violence and then relied on money and influence to conceal it. The surveillance footage itself — previously leaked to the public — was played in full for the jury, reinforcing the prosecution's claim that this was not an isolated outburst but part of a larger pattern of coercive behavior.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:May 12, 2025 - Day 1 of testimony in the Sean ‘Diddy' Combs trial | CNN

Christian opens with a prayer, setting a reflective tone before he and Deb share their backgrounds, highlighting their diverse work in church leadership, nonprofits, digital marketing, and coaching. Their firsthand experiences with high demands make them well-equipped to discuss burnout from multiple angles. They identify three key burnout triggers: stress, circumstances, and resources—with stress coming from external pressures, circumstances being life's misalignments, and resources reflecting a lack of support or tools to manage challenges. Rather than just treating symptoms, Christian emphasizes the need to address burnout at its root for lasting change. A core takeaway is the “Win the Day” practice—starting the day with structured routines including physical activity, contemplation (prayer, scripture, journaling), and learning. This approach shifts the mind from anxiety to creativity and productivity, helping prevent burnout. Deb shares her own strategies for maintaining balance, distinguishing between self-care and soul care. She advocates for intentional daily rhythms, such as walking with God, weekly sync times with her spouse, and observing a weekly Sabbath. Setting boundaries is also key—she and Christian are intentional about protecting their Sabbath by saying no to extra commitments. The discussion moves to goal-setting and clarity as antidotes to feeling stuck, a common side effect of burnout. Christian explains that having a clear direction reduces stress and that immersive learning—actively filling gaps in knowledge and skills—helps maintain forward momentum. Christian also challenges the idea that burnout stems from a lack of resources, arguing that more often, it's about not leveraging existing resources effectively. He suggests that when used wisely, resources tend to multiply. Closing with a Scriptural perspective, Christian references Romans 12:2, emphasizing the power of a renewed mind in transforming one's life. The episode reinforces the idea that while stress is unavoidable, burnout is preventable through intentional routines, clear goals, and a mindful approach to spiritual and personal well-being. This conversation blends practical strategies with personal stories and faith-based insights, offering listeners a roadmap to resilience, balance, and empowered leadership.

Today we speak with Lou Florez about his life as a diviner and metaphysical reader who facilitates spiritual connectivity and transformational empowerment throughout his myriad roles as a Priest, lecturer, author, medicine maker, and activist. We speak about afro-carribean diasporic magical traditions and the problems of their systemic exclusion in the Euro-Western knowledge academy. Lou speaks of the importance of unknown, called the great mystery in world wisdom traditions, and we go on to discuss this in relation to the transformative powers of the arts, specifically music, and how the embodiment of this mystery can become a liberatory and revolutionary practice. We share magical stories and end by talking about the fundamentals of cleansing practices from Lou's most recent book The Modern Art of Brujería: A Beginner's Guide to Spellcraft, Medicine Making, and Other Traditions of the Global South (Ulysses Press, 2022). Lou Florez (Awo Ifadunsin) is a diviner and metaphysical reader who facilitates spiritual connectivity and transformational empowerment throughout his myriad roles as a Priest, lecturer, author, medicine maker, and activist. His work is inherently interdisciplinary and intersectional—bridging the fields of herbalism, ecology, divination, poetry, psychology, religious studies, gender and sexual studies, mixed-media art, and perfumery. Lou investigates the emanating Spirit present within all these fields and incorporates them into experiences that activate the Spirit within. Lou is the cofounder and executive director of Water Has No Enemy (WHNE), a nonprofit committed to healing justice. WHNE seeks to honor the timeless and enduring indigenous wisdom stolen from communities of color through centuries of slavery, colonization, and institutionalized oppression and reclaim it for today's world. The organization offers a collaborative space for changemakers to explore healing justice because we believe that true healing occurs at all levels—from the individual and social levels to our relationship to the natural world. We promote services and programming that intersectionally addresses social change, community activism, and transformation through indigenous, Yoruba, and African diasporic perspectives. In this episode I am joined by visual artist Hazel Florez, where we get deep into the esoteric tradition of the west. We begin by discussing her dramatic shift in interest toward the occult and esoteric and how that discovery slowly began to guide her toward her creative work. We discuss the importance of reclaiming our spiritual identity in these modern times of distraction and hyper-materialism. We dive into her work as an artist and how she explores new ways of expressing ideas from tarot, alchemy, and the pagan sensibilities of pre-christian and European spirituality. ------------------------ Hazel Florez is an artist, researcher and writer. Hazel is multidisciplinary artist making paintings, drawings, costumes, photography and mixed media collage. Her work draws on a range of mystical influences for inspiration, including the rich symbolic traditions of Jungian archetypal psychology, tarot, astrology, alchemy, mythology, and folklore. Florez's paintings are made with the intention of drawing the viewer into a slower and meditative state of mind, where prolonged viewing is rewarded with intricate detail. Her paintings act like portals inviting the viewer to enter mythopoetic Otherworlds. Esoteric and surreal Hazel's images weave new stories of their own, often mixing reverence with playful irreverence. She has an MFA from Edinburgh and taught at Queen Mary University London before becoming an artist. She has participated in many solo and group shows in London. She has participated and given talks at a range of venues and events including the Jung Club, the Magical Women's Conference and Occulture Conference Berlin and The Last Tuesday Society. She was shortlisted for the London College of Psychic Studies annual art competition 2022. She is currently writing articles for World of Interiors magazine. Her work is due to be published in a book by Taschen called 'Sacred Sites' released with The Library of Esoterica February 2024. ¡Hola!

Laurel Thatcher Ulrich said, "Well-behaved women seldom make history", but this quotation doesn't mean what you think it means...Thatcher, a historian, author, educator, and mother of 5 was dedicated to telling the quiet stories of ordinary people...and she won a Pulitzer Prize for it. Because, as she states, “it is in the very dailiness, the exhaustive, repetitious dailiness, that the real power lies… living has to be measured in doing.” and mommas...our lives are a very measure of doing, and doing, and doing. We don't have to be aggressive, loud, and bold to change the world...there is power in our quiet contributions as mothers, wives, sisters, daughters...and they rarely get attention or credit, because well-behaved women seldom make history....but that doesn't mean our contributions aren't valuable, necessary, beautiful, and worthy. In our new series, "Just" a Mom, we are celebrating YOUR stories, the seemingly ordinary. Because no mom is 'just' a mom and we all have triumphs, struggles, challenges, and beauty to share. And frankly, other moms need to hear them.Welcome to the "Just" a Mom series – Today we have Simone Florez!Sho is actually a German citizen living in the United States since 2008, married to her husband since 2007. On top of that, she's a military wife, mom of 6 incredible kids, she's moved all over the world, and she's looking forward finally settling in the beautiful panhandle, homeschooling, and running a small cottage bakery out of her house! Beginning with the captivating detail that Carolina Florez was inspired by her time in Denmark to take risks and trust herself, this podcast episode follows Carolina's journey as a tour guide in Miami. Sebastian Rusk and Carolina discuss sustainable forms of transportation, the history of Miami, the art scene, Carolina's content creation on Instagram, and her upcoming tour of the city. They also discuss the importance of historic preservation, the gentrification of Winwood, and Carolina's hobbies and experiences living in Denmark. The tour is on a double decker bus and lasts two hours, with a trivia game associated with it and grand prizes from Visgaya and Fairchild. Carolina's tour is open to locals only and is sure to be an exciting and educational experience.Episode Outline:(00:15:50) The Rise of Miami(00:21:21) Shenandoah & Miami(00:26:31) Winwood Gentrification(00:10:50) Miami Mondays(00:32:02) Miami Mondays Content(00:36:56) Miami History Tour(00:00:00) Tour Guide Carol(00:05:30) Self-SufficiencyQuotes:(00:27:18) It's the same thing with Walk no longer. And I was going to say, when I started going to Winwood and when it was starting to come to life, Art Walk was dope. Like, you could literally go from gallery to gallery with a glass of wine or a cocktail and meet the artist and get to life.(00:15:31) Pan Am is what helped shape Miami or set the tone for Miami being an international city, because they were the first airline to charter international flights.(00:07:04) Don't just do anything for the money. Find a value or take a job that is going to give you a skill.(00:20:25) She made it very pedestrian friendly. She put it a lot of like everything was really intentional because she wanted it to feel like a suburb right next to the city so people can work in Brickell and then live and have that life.(00:03:38) Follow your heart, follow your intuition, and just do what you want to do.(00:37:51) Might meet a wifey. Never know.(00:23:20) It's not a great example of a park, really. Like, Brickell has no parks. And they deal with poop problems all the time because dogs are sitting on the sidewalks. Because there's no parks.(00:33:53) Like, I know that I'll pull through, and I'll know I'll get out there, but it also showed me a different quality of life and the way that we were all biking around. We all had access to easy, clean, great public transportation, and how I felt in that space. I realized, like, wow, this is so much better, because I grew up in Kendall, and like I mentioned, also my parents worked at the DMV.Blog Post:When Carolina Florez was 19, she found a job as a tour guide in Miami on Craigslist. Little did she know, this job would not only shape her career, but also her outlook on life. On the Beyond the Story podcast, Carolina and host Sebastian Rusk discussed her journey as a tour guide, her content creation on Instagram, and her upcoming tour of the city. Carolina started her tour guide career four years ago, learning about Miami's history and gaining insight into the city's culture. During this time, she also started Miami Mondays, a two-minute video series about a different landmark or historic event related to Miami, which she launched in May 2020. With the pandemic, Carolina received $800 a week in unemployment benefits, which allowed her to focus on creating content and pursuing her passions. Carolina and Sebastian discussed the importance of historic preservation, the gentrification of Winwood, and Carolina's hobbies and experiences living in Denmark. Carolina was inspired by her time in Denmark to take risks and trust herself, and she realized that if she could do a six-month study exchange, she could do anything. She had been financially self-sufficient since she was 15, and this experience helped her gain the confidence she needed to pursue her passions. Carolina's tour of the city is open to locals only and is sure to be an exciting and educational experience. The tour is on a double decker bus and lasts two hours, with a trivia game associated with it and grand prizes from Visgaya and Fairchild. There is a social hour before the tour where people can eat and drink. The tour will cover a range of topics, such as sustainable forms of transportation, the history of Miami, the art scene, and the founders of the city, including Mary Brickell, Julia Tuttle, and Henry Flagler. The importance of Carolina's tour lies in its ability to provide insight into the history of Miami and to help people understand the city's culture and the changes it has gone through. By connecting people with the city's history and culture, Carolina's tour can help locals gain a better understanding of Miami and how it has evolved over time. It can also help people appreciate the importance of historic preservation and the impact gentrification has had on the city. Carolina's tour is a great opportunity for locals to explore the city in a fun and educational way. With its combination of practical advice, data-driven insights, and a conversational tone, it is sure to be an unforgettable experience.Connect with Sebastian Rusk:Beyond The Story PodcastInstagramFacebookConnect with Carolina FLorez:WebsiteFacebookInstagramOther MaterialsThese materials help you promote your podcast.
