This week Jodi talks with actress Elena Goode who stars in the highly anticipated HBO Max original series “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” from acclaimed executive producer / writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (“Riverdale” and “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), now streaming on HBO Max. “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” begins twenty years ago, when a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago...as well as their own. Born and raised in Harlem, NYC, bilingual speaker Goode's first big break came at just 9 years old when she was discovered by a talent agent who ultimately booked her for a pizza commercial. Growing up with parents who were both philanthropic lawyers respectively, she was taught to save her money and that education was the most important thing she could give herself. She tested into the prestigious LaGuardia Arts High School and credits this experience as changing her life as it was a very socially aware and culturally diverse school. She attended FIT for college but missed acting and auditioning so decided to get back into it which is when she booked the soap opera “As The World Turns” – something that greatly impressed her Puerto Rican mother. She went on to film 192 episodes in 2 ½ years and was part of the first gay storyline on Soap television, playing a friend's “beard” on the show (who naturally in Soap fashion turns out to also be her relative). She moved to Los Angeles and in 2015 booked the role of Nicole Young, Dr. Dre's (Corey Hawkins) wife in the Academy Award-nominated film STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON. She additionally starred as ‘Ma' in the HBO Latino original film ELLIOT LOVES about Latino culture and a young boy coming out. In her free time, Goode is passionate about advocating for Ocean and Sea Life protection.

After 25+ years in Film Acquisition at HBO, where she served as SVP of Film Programming and responsible for the HBO Latino programming model, Doris Casap made a leap of faith and launched MOTHER FILMS as Founder/CEO, an independent production, sales and advisory company based in NYC. In her first year, Casap executive produced and sold (to Amazon and Peacock) “A Most Beautiful Thing," a documentary depicting the journey of the country's first all-Black rowing team, a group of high schoolers from Chicago's West Side. Her short film, "F^¢K '€M R!GHT B@¢K" starring rapper Ddm Ddm, was accepted into Sundance and won Best Comedy Film at the Aspen Shortsfest. She was also a consulting producer and sales distributor on “Surge,” a documentary sold to Showtime about the surge of female candidates in the 2018 Midterms and the triumphant victory of now-Representative Lauren Underwood, the youngest Black woman ever in Congress, with Executive Producers Alyssa Milano and Katie Couric. Diving into the horror genre, she executive produced “Red Pill,” written and directed by Tony Award winning actress, Tonya Pinkins, a political horror movie which premiered during the 2021 Pan African Film Festival in Feb/Mar 2021 and was released on multiple platforms, including iTunes, Prime Video and Direct TV, after receiving glowing coverage in a growing number of publications and platforms, running the gamut from Forbes to Black Girl Nerds. Tonya's political horror film tells the story of a posse of progressives who ride into red country armed with idealism on the eve of the 2020 Election, when they should have brought heavy artillery. In addition to films, she oversaw the acquisition and commissioning of HBO Latino branded music programming. Somewhere in the back of my mind, i have the idea that the book i wrote, The Mosaic would always be turned into a movie or a Netflix series or something like that and from time to time life brings to me people who are really talented in filmmaking, directing and producing films. i have also always felt that the essence of The Mosaic, the idea of listening to people no one listens to, and watching them righting front of my eyes transform from who i thought they were to who they are. for the most part, this happens in my seeing something that i never saw in them before, AND . . . occasionally it happens through the practice of holding space. when a person feels safe enough to be themselves, all that they are not falls away, leaving only who they are to be seen. both ways involve this practice of compassionate listening and both processes are exquisite to watch. Trina Bardusco is an American-Venezuelan who is passionate about innovative storytelling, championing multiculturalism, diversity and content for women. She has written, directed, produced and or co-hosted a total of nine web series and for-and-about women in both English and Spanish. you can easily see why i was so eager to speak with her. She also co-pioneered HBO Latino's original, award winning series, Habla, that for over a decade has given a platform to Latinos living in the U.S. Latinos from all walks of life, including dozens of celebrities, share their personal stories. Her latest project, Going Solo, is a documentary series with a distinctly feminine take on the impulse to travel. Blending bold storytelling, far-flung locals, and spirited exploration, we follow Trina as she takes a walk—or twirl, or ride—in another's shoes, seeking passion and excitement in each unique form of cultural expression. need i say more, but there is more . . . Trina began her career as a Fulbright Scholar of ethnomusicology in Spain in 1999 for her project, “Flamenco's Duende and Deep Song.” She soon traded the library for one of the first, readily available DV digital cameras, and started documenting gypsy flamenco singer, Luis Agujeta. This lead to her debut documentary, I'm the Tourist, where she first began experimenting with immersing herself in a way of life markedly different from her own. what was fabulous to watch in this interview was that moment when we could feel who trina was actually came front an center. thesis not to say that before na after that moment trina was not real and authentic and beautiful, but if you watch, i thin you will see, there is a moment she something changes. those moments are what i live for. i hope you will enjoy watching this episode and that it will encourage you to usher in that moment for yourself when you become you. to get in touch with trina please go to her website: https://www.TrinaBardusco.com to learn more about Daniel B. How lucky were we to get one of the hottest comedians around, the fabulous Gina Brillon. There is nothing this Bronx girl can't do. Hear her story about starting out at 17 years old and attending college all while perfecting her craft at night. The Latino market embraced this smart gem, which also caught the eye of Stand-Up Comedian Gabriel Iglesisa who produced her first one hour special "Pacifically Speaking" on NuvoTV in 2014. She has gone on to be part of various specials including her latest, "Easily Offended" on HBO Latino. We talked about many of her accomplishments, being bi-coastal, TV appearances, sitcom deals and now impending Motherhood, as Gina is with child at the time of the taping. She is also a singer, published writer and poet. We remember when she first started out and knew she was going to be special. For more on Gina go to: https://ginabrilloncomedy.com

Jerry Garcia is a stand up comedian from Los Angeles who is one of the funniest guys I've had the pleasure of sharing the stage with. You may have seen him on Netflix on Chingo Bling's Special or on HBO Latino.
Jerry is super-excited as the Wannabes celebrate PRIDE MONTH without Jesus, but WITH special guest (and extra-special gay) Narciso Gonzalez! Jerry is a perfect Twink, Christian is an Otter, and Jesus is a Little Cub, according to Narciso. The guys talk coming out, the "f" word, and Mexican families always being quick to spot the gay kid. Then Narciso administers the classic "Nail Test" to see who might play for his team. Overall, Narciso wants America to be less macho and more sensitive! Jerry struggles to get in touch with his sensitive side, but remembers vividly the last time he cried. Plus, Jerry needs a date to the premiere of his comedy special on HBO Latino, and Narciso has a trans friend he thinks Jerry would love! --- Subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Google Play or your favorite podcast app! American Wannabes is a weekly Latino comedy podcast featuring comics Jerry Garcia, Jesus Sepulveda and Christian Zaragoza.
We had the amazing Carmen Morales (@thefunnycarmen, FOX's Laughs, HBO Latino) and the very best person Mo Urban (@SomeMoComedy, Comedy at the Wench, Cunts Being Cunts Talking About Cunts Comedy Show) on the Golden Girls podcast! Hooray! It's a court-isode! We watched the one where we find out that Sophia is a nightmare to buy shoes for. Also Rose finds a story to report for her TV job regarding Uncle Angelo's slumlord who, as we know, is Dorothy and Stan... which leads to a court scene! The c-plot is Blanche tries to fuck a shoe salesman. We talked about an adult version of the floor is lava, Disney vultures and the sexual rituals of trying on shoes. Music by Mike Dennison (@mikd33) and Brian Kokernak (@kokernutz). Full disclosure: The audio is far from perfect this week because we were on location, but bear with us, it's an awesome episode. Thanks!
Our guest is comedian/actor Jesus Sepulveda, who has been featured on Netflix and HBO Latino. We discuss crazy parents, crazy love stories discuss the situation of these crazy gringos getting in trouble. *THIS GUY IS HILARIOUS*
The Wannabes just filmed for HBO Latino and their own project but Christian was nervous and couldn't remember his lines. Jerry wants to quit the podcast every week and the guys try explain why he shouldn't. Jesus doesn't know what "forefathers" or "pilgrims" means. Plus, the guys talk Mexican vs. American Thanksgiving, take a quiz to see how American they are, and go deep into Jerry's previous compulsive gambling. They finish off with a little heartfelt list of what they are thankful for this year. Please subscribe on iTunes Stitcher, Google Play, or any podcast app! The combined age of the two fighters in this coming weekend's headlining bout on Spike, courtesy of Premier Boxing Champions, is 85. Antonio Tarver returns for the first time since defeating Jonathon Banks and faces Steve Cunningham. It may even wind up strangely competitive. In the co-feature(s), Marco Huck and Artur Szpilka are showcased, so at least we could get some fun ones. Depending on where you reside, the biggest news of the weekend might be Lucian Bute's return against Andrea di Luisa on NBC Sports. The Bell Centre in Montreal is bound to be packed and cheering Bute wildly. There's a matter of the HBO Latino card that featured Dmitry Mikhaylenko, Manuel Avila and Tevin Farmer and happened to be fun, but also news, such as a likely Andre Berto vs Khabib Allakhverdiev bout, the announcement of woeful opponents for Peter Quillin and Adonis Stevenson, and the finalizing of Floyd Mayweather vs Andre Berto -- the ultra, super, megafight that nobody seems to want. Joining James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor this week is writer, co-host of of the Ring Theory podcast and author William Dettloff. Thanks for tuning in!
Welterweight Keith Thurman fluted his way to a tough victory over Luis Collazo in the main event of boxing's return to ESPN, and Willie Nelson (not that one, but we know what you mean) scored a great knockout over previously unbeaten Tony Harrison in the opener. Was the entertainment value all part of some Premier Boxing Champions master plan, or did we once more get an accidentally-fun boxing card? Junior welterweight Mauricio Herrera finally caught a break, although he may not have deserved it against Hank Lundy on HBO Latino. The irony is that Herrera still wound up being punished even in a win, as the fight ended early as a result of a bad cut over Herrera's eye. Terry Flanagan picked up a lightweight belt under disappointing circumstances in Manchester, after Jose Zepeda suffered a freak shoulder dislocation and couldn't continue after round two. ...so that sucks. For Zepeda, anyway. This coming weekend, Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr faces Marcos Reyes on Showtime in his first fight back since being stopped by Andrzej Fonfara, and Carl Frampton makes his U.S. debut on CBS, fighting Alejandro Gonzalez, Jr in Texas. Overseas, it's Arthur Abraham vs Robert Stieglitz XXVI from Germany and so forth, and Scott Quigg vs Kiko Martinez on Sky Sports. Toss in Leo Santa Cruz vs Abner Mares being finalized and Miguel Cotto vs Saul "Canelo" Alvarez close, and James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor have a lot to tackle. Please go Like the Top Men Boxing Radio page on Facebook, and rate us on iTunes! Thanks for tuning in!
