Paul Jamrog has returned "home" to oversee the transformation of the former Metacomet Country Club in East Providence, RI, into Met Links, an innovative 9-hole public golf course on a portion of the 90 acre Metacomet property. Jamrog was the golf course superintendent at Metacomet Country Club from 1994 to 2013, when he transitioned into sales. In financial difficulty for some time, Metacomet was purchased for development by Marshall Properties in 2020, with a desire to retain and redesign a portion of the golf course. Robert McNeil ASGCA and the Northeast Golf Company were brought in to spearhead the renovation, and Jamrog was called back to manage the transition. More on that here. In this conversation with Anthony Pioppi, Jamrog reflects on coming back to a very different property from when he left and was away for eight years. He also credits his time in sales with creating within him a greater awareness of the universe of turf care products available to the superitendent today.

Mangia come parli

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

E vivere felici, a lungo. “Honest doctors can no longer practice honest medicine. There is an epidemic of misinformation rooted in biased research that is funded for profit rather than patient benefit.” In this episode, Shan is in conversation with Dr. Aseem Malhotra who is successfully leading the campaign against excess sugar and overprescribing in our society. They discuss Dr. Aseem’s journey and passion as a cardiologist, change activist and public health advocate.   This informative and inspiring episode highlights the change we need and how making injustice visible is making the difference.  KEY TAKEAWAYS I am proud to have trained and work in a system that has the ethical care of the patient at its heart. The NHS is based upon the founding principles that it is available for everybody and free at the point of delivery. We treat patients according to clinical need not ability to pay which I believe makes us better clinicians. Since I have qualified I have seen an increase in chronic diseases and the workload and stress on doctors has increased. The question we must ask – is food education effective when the food environment is working against you? I mend hearts, then I see our hospitals serve junk food to our patients. If you want to change things you have to make the injustice visible, and that is at the heart of what I do. The roots of the health care crisis are poor diet and lifestyle driving many chronic illnesses along with over medication. There has been an increase in commercial interest in medicine. There is a lack of transparency in the system, including the ways in which data is translated and interpreted for discussion with patients. It is imperative that we are transparent with patients, not only because it is ethical, but also so that it does not distract from other things they can be doing to increase longevity and improve quality of life. Dietary changes are not just about increasing longevity. There are rapid short-term gains in health, and it is not until we make the changes that we realise how different life can be. The Pioppi diet and lifestyle plan is a result of studying the lifestyle of people living in the Mediterranean village of Pioppi. We reviewed the lifestyles of the people in the village recognising it was relatively stress-free, people were fairly active, and there was a strong sense of community. We created a low refined carbohydrate Mediterranean diet and lifestyle plan based upon these components. It’s imperative that we learn to think about diet and eating more whole foods is vital. Currently, over 50% of our diet consists of ultra-processed foods. The current obesity epidemic cannot be solved through education alone. The food environment will also have to change through regulation. It is politicians who have the power to improve the food environment, so everybody has access to healthy food.   BEST MOMENTS “Possibly half of all published literature is untrue.”  “If you want to change things, make the injustice visible” “Is dietary education effective when the food industry is working against us?” “Half of our British diet is ultra-processed foods” “An unhealthy population is an unhappy population.” “One of the reasons we’re not changing the system is because of lack of knowledge of the system amongst doctors.” “30 minutes a day of brisk walking is just as good for longevity as being an endurance athlete” “We as doctors want to do the best for our patients, that’s at the core of all of this. And as long as we stay true to that, then we will win.”   VALUABLE RESOURCES Enduring Health Podcast The Pioppi Diet Dr. Aseem Malhotra’s Website Follow on Twitter Follow on Instagram Happier book by Tal Ben-Shahar   ABOUT THE GUEST Dr. Aseem Malhotra Known as one of the most influential cardiologists in Britain and a world-leading expert in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease, Dr. Aseem Malhotra is successfully leading the campaign against excess sugar consumption and overmedication. An award-winning NHS cardiologist, he has successfully motivated leading academics, the media and politicians to make sugar reduction a health priority in the UK by publishing commentaries in the BMJ and mainstream media.  When he is not working as a doctor in the National Health Service, Dr. Malhotra continues in his fight to raise awareness about the health benefits of a sugar-free diet, maintaining that sugar deserves its reputation as "Public Health Enemy Number 1". His no-holds-barred approach to challenging common health beliefs is proving highly effective in getting medical professionals and social authorities from around the world to sit up and take notice. He is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences.  Dr. Malhotra has become one of the most influential and effective campaigning doctors in the world on issues that affect obesity, heart disease and population health. Despite a soaring number in gym memberships, despite an increasing obsession with fitness, nutrition and wellness, and despite the diet and fitness industry being worth billions of dollars, research shows that people are still continuing to gain weight.   My belief is that we are all over complicating the whole thing, and that if we all returned to a ‘not so long ago era’, where people’s relationship with food and exercise was far less complicated and far less obsessive, then most of us would lose weight very quickly, and would also be able to maintain that desired physique for the majority of our adult lives. It’s a theory that I feel very passionately about, but I put my hands up and confess that I’m not an expert on this subject, which is precisely why I invited a well regarded expert on to the show to debate, and pick holes in my theory.   Dr Aseem Malhotra is an award winning consultant cardiologist and is one of the most influential health campaigners in the UK. In between writing for academic journals and sharing his expert advice on notable TV stations such as the BBC, Channel 4 and CNN, he wrote a best selling book called the ‘Pioppi diet’.  As quoted from Dr Malhotra’s website:  ‘This is not just a cardiologist. This is a man who wants to change the world one meal at a time, by not just rocking the system, but by rebuilding it’  I enjoyed this debate immensely, and maybe there was even a winner, but who that winner was? I’ll let you be the judge of that.   FIND OUT MORE ABOUT OUR COURSES: HERE (https://www.kezia-noble.com)

Sheila Dillon questions whether the government's Eatwell Plate that's issued to the medical profession and used as public guidance for a balanced diet could actually be harming us. An increasing number of medics are abandoning the plate because they say it still promotes dangerously high levels of starchy carbohydrates and processed foods that contain high levels of the sugars that cause many of today's chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra author of the Pioppi diet is campaigning to change the official advice and says that a healthy diet and lifestyle are the key to reducing disease and the need for medication, but he says that vested interests from the food and pharmaceutical industries make some of these healthier choices more difficult to achieve. Dr David Unwin is a GP who has seen a huge spike in patients presenting with Type 2 Diabetes since he began practicing forty years ago. He advises lifestyle changes that include abandoning the Eatwell Guide and cutting out the starchy carbohydrates, processed foods and sugars and has seen a reversal of the disease in a significant number of patients. Sheila also visits Tameside Hospital in Greater Manchester which is overhauling its canteen food and vending machine produce to reduce processed carbohydrates and sugary drinks and snacks. In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the NHS the hospital will go completely sugar free on July 4th. Is it time to revise the Eatwell Guide and what will it take to do so? In this episode of the TurfNet Renovation Report, host Anthony Pioppi chats with Scott Ramsay, CGCS, about the ongoing restoration of the Seth Raynor-designed classic at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Ramsay has been at Yale since 2003 and was the TurfNet Superintendent of the Year in 2006. Working for an academic institution, he occasionally claims the tongue-in-cheek title of "Director of the Department of Applied Botany" at Yale. The "renovation of the renovation" at Yale -- a complete renovation was finished up in 2003 -- focuses on reclaiming lost green area and tree removal. The Yale course in the middle of a 450 urban forest owned by the university. Ramsay quips that "we don't measure greens here in square feet... we measure them in acres".  He relies on a 1934 aerial map along with poking a lot of holes to find the gravel choker layer that Raynor liked to use. Once the original green outline is determined, he uses the "scalp and pray" method to bring the turf to green height. He also discusses his new 15,000 sq ft plug nursery in which he has cultivated the mix of German bents, velvets, Penncross and Poa that match the original turf on the golf course. Spend a half hour or so with Tony and Scott!  Good conversation! Presented by Golf Preservations, the greens drainage specialists and full service restoration/renovation contractors.

This week we welcome back to the show Donal O'Neill. The man behind the movies Cereal Killers & CK2 - Run On Fat, is here to discuss his new movie: The Big Fat Fix. “The Big Fat Fix” is an independent co-production between Donal and cardiologist Aseem Malhotra. In the movie, they travel to Pioppi in southern Italy where the residents enjoy longevity and a healthy old-age with low rates of heart disease, diabetes and dementia. With their discoveries in Pioppi, they offer practical solutions to preventing and reversing diet-related disease. Having financed the movie with a successful crowdfunding campaign backed by Jamie Oliver and supportive articles in the New York Times and Men’s Health, the content of the movie is 100% free from any commercial influence. Questions we ask in this episode: You premiered in British Parliament - how did that happen and what was the reaction? Beyond travelling to Italy, how much science is behind the findings and recommendations within the movie? Great to see the ‘move daily’ message in there. What have been your discoveries when it comes to exercise lifestyle and health? After everything you’ve learned, what are you views on carbohydrate consumption? What are your stress reduction strategies? Full Transcript & Video:  http://180nutrition.com.au/180-tv/donal-oneill-the-big-fat-fix/ Hi, this is Guy Lawrence of 180 nutrition and welcome to this week's episode of health sessions where of course we have cut through the confusion by connecting with leading global health and wellness experts around the globe to share the latest science and thinking and empowering everyone including ourselves to turn our health and lives around. This week we are doing it with the awesome Donal O'Neil. If you are not familiar with Donal, we've had him on the podcast before and he's the man behind the documentaries 'Cereal Killers' and 'Cereal Killers To Run Off Fat.' [00:01:00] We've got him back on the show today to discuss his new documentary, 'The Big Fat Fix.' I watched it the other day and it is awesome and I encourage everyone that listens to this show to go and check it out. Just rent it, download it, stream it, whatever, share it with your family because it is an awesome message. In this movie, he basically teams up with cardiologist Hassim [U-th-ra 00:00:54] from the UK and he takes him on a journey to a small forgotten village in Italy where the true secrets of the Mediterranean diet can be found. The message I love from this movie, it's not only food, it's medicine, but lifestyle is medicine too. I thought they nailed the message really really well. Of course, then they show you how we can apply that message into our busy lives of today. We dive into it. You are going to love it. It was great to have Donal back on the show as well. If you do enjoy this episode, we've got a couple of other interviews that are very related because we've had Donal on before and other people from the cereal killers movie. Just remember Sammy [Inki-nen 00:01:36] and also [Me-ri-de-th 00:01:38] Lauren and Dr. Peter [Brook-na-sa 00:01:40]. They were all related to the other movie, so if you want to delve into this more and this message, just go and check those episodes back, but we will link on the show notes as well over at 180nutrition.com.au. Hey, Stu. Stu Hello mate. How are you. Guy Our awesome guest today is Donal O'Neil. Donal, welcome back to the show. Donal Thanks guys. Good to see you again. Guy Mate, did you know that you have actually just broke a new record for 180nutrition. The first person to come back on the show for the 3rd time in 4 years. Can you believe that. Donal I will take a bow ... Guy It's absolutely awesome to have you back on to discuss your new movie in a bit, 'The Big Fat Fix.' We watched it the other day and just thought again you've just nailed a fantastic message and if we can continue to spread the word for you mate, then we are happy to get behind it because you are doing awesome stuff Donal. Well done. Fantastic. Donal Much appreciated. Thank you. Guy Let's maybe touch on who's Donal O'Neil, just in case people ... We are picking up new listeners every week. I'm pretty sure maybe 50% of [inaudible 00:03:34] seen your movies from the past, but we could be exposed to a new audience today as well. How would you do your elevator pitch, mate? Who's Donal O'Neil in a snapshot? Donal [00:04:00] In a nutshell. I'm a former athlete who got very badly injured and got to the age of 30 and couldn't run any more. That's probably the first thing I would say about myself. About 6 years ago, my father had an unexpected heart attack. He too was an elite athlete and I wondered why the hell that happened. That curiosity led me to completely changing careers. I was in the tech industry prior to that and online marketing and I decided I want to tell a few stories about health and wellness and human performance and I flew to South Africa and fortunately bumped into one professor Timothy [Nokes 00:04:27] who just happens to be the greatest sports scientist on the planet. [00:05:00] He was very generous with his time and his resources and we made a movie together called 'Cereal Killers.' That was back in 2013. Off the back of that, we followed up with phenomenal [inaudible 00:04:44] champion who contacted me off the back of 'Cereal Killers' to say that he too eats a low carbohydrate, high fat diet and was winning world [armor 00:04:53] title. We were on a bit of a role there and 'The Big Fat Fixer,' our third movie with the brilliant young British Cardiologist Hassim [Ma-la-ha-dra 00:05:02] takes a full circle into my 6 year investigation into health and lifestyle and longevity and human performance. In a nutshell, that's ... That's actually not a nutshell, that's quite a lengthy nutshell. Full Transcript & Video:  http://180nutrition.com.au/180-tv/donal-oneill-the-big-fat-fix/
