It is with heavy hearts that we deliver this week's episode honoring the passing of a guitar hero giant who also happened to be an awesome singer and songwriter: John Sykes. He was a guitarist deserving of the title guitar god who rarely got mentioned in the same circles as the Satches, Vais, Rhodes, and Van Halens. Most known for his brief stint in Thin Lizzy at the end of their career and as a brief member of Whitesnake. He should have been a household for playing on the Whitesnake 87 album that sold 25M records worldwide, but he was fired before it came out. Kevin's a huge fan of Blue Murder, so we will focus on that band and some of the lesser-known projects he was involved in while also paying homage to his mainstream successes. New to InObscuria? Typically, what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Rest In Peace John. Your pure musicality and amazing songs will live forever in our hearts!Songs this week include:Blue Murder – “We All Fall Down” from Nothin' But Trouble (1993)Streetfighter – “She's No Angel” from Lightnin' To The Nations: NWOBHM 25th Anniversary Collection (2005)Tygers Of Pan Tang – “Blackjack” from Spellbound (1981)John Sykes – “Pride And Joy” from Crossfire: A Salute To Stevie Ray (1996)Derek Sherinian – “God Of War” from Mythology (2004)Thin Lizzy – “Cowboy Song” from One Night Only (2000)John Sykes – “Cautionary Warning” from 20th Century (1997)Blue Murder – “Still Of The Night” from Screaming Blue Murder: Dedicated To Phil Lynott (1994)Blue Murder – “Jelly Roll” from Screaming Blue Murder: Dedicated To Phil Lynott (1994)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

With Mark Stein‘s mysterioso wash of Grand Guignol keyboard theatrics, Tim Bogert‘s amazing and trippy bass runs, and guitarist Vince Martell‘s era-happy soloing, Appice boomed like no other drummer in rock history. Carmine Appice is one of the few drum legends we have left. What's interesting to me about his career is that his name is usually bigger than the bands he's in whether it's Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Beck, Bogart, Appice, King Kobra, Blue Murder or his side work with Rod Stewart and Ozzy. These days he's turning his attention to Cactus, who recently released a new album called Temple of Blues where they redo a bunch of the classic Cactus songs and invite their friends along. Buddies like Dee Snider, Ted Nugent, Joe Bonamassa, Dug Pinnick, and tons more feature prominently on this all-star disc. We also discuss each of these Other projects as well as a few more. Carmine's been at it for 60 years and only gotten better. Enjoy! www.carmineappice.net www.cactusrocks.com www.patreon.com/thehustlepod
The second part of Ian's chat with Paul Shortino in which he gives us a fascinating insight to his landmark appearance at Hear N'Aid (America's rock equivalent to Band Aid), as well as detailing the close association with his mentor, Ronnie James Dio. Apart from Paul's infectious personality, enjoy more good music and commentary from his solo career and numerous collaborations including Carmine Appice's band, King Kobra. “That has changed recently. Russ Ballard gave me chills every night on Rock Meets Classic when I heard him sing “You Can Do Magic”. It has have to be his version, no one else's version of song. “ Paul Shortino's response when asked “what is your favourite song of all time?”

For this edition of the podcast the lads are being driven to drink. Not literally, because that would be irresponsible. No, this time the Sadmen had to find an album each that had a link to alcohol. Richard travelled back to Canada to pick up Nature Of The Beast, an album thought by many to be the finest hour of April Wine. Steve opted for the comfort of 1986 and the rock-lite Thrill Of A Lifetime by Carmine Appice vehicle King Kobra. Mark, ever the adventurer, went a little off-piste and turned up with Behind The Eight Ball (an Eight Ball being both a whisket cocktail and a drug cocktaIl. Apparently) from German power metal band Thunderhead. Let battle commence!
A veteran of the jazz, funk, and even disco scenes, Herbie Hancock took a left turn in the 80's to help usher hip hop into the mainstream of pop music, and we're certainly glad that he did. This episode focuses on 1983's "Rockit" and the album Future Shock. There are certain movies that could only have existed in the 80's, and Iron Eagle (1986) is one of them. Starring Jason Gedric and Louis Gossett, Jr., it's a hunk of cheese equally matched by its soundtrack, with a theme song by King Kobra. Let's set the stage. It's 1988. The airwaves are buzzing with the high-octane sounds of Def Leppard, Guns N' Roses, and Bon Jovi. MTV is our go-to for the latest music videos, and hip-hop is making serious waves with N.W.A. and Public Enemy dropping game-changing albums. We're quoting Die Hard, laughing at Beetlejuice, and tearing up at Rain Man. TV's got us hooked on Roseanne and The Wonder Years. The Berlin Wall is still up, and the Cold War is real, but there's a rebellious buzz in the air.Does this album bring back good vibes?
Legendary Drummer Carmine Appice has played with Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Beck, Bogart & Appice, Rod Stewart, King Kobra, Blue Murder and many others! S7E15 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 11 April 2024. TSORR was on Myoli Beach in Sedgefield for this episode so the view was great. This week's Twisted Twins featured tracks called ‘Winter'. We looked to a local band called Crash Car Burn for the first track and then went back to the amazing Goats Head Soup album for a Rolling Stones song called Winter. It's interesting to note that this is one of the few Rolling Stones that Keith Richard did not play on. The song was written and recorded by the two Mick's – Jagger and Taylor. Immortals was courtesy of Avenged Sevenfold, the title track off The Stage, the last good album they made before they went mental and served up the biggest turd in the history of metal. off the Born to Run album, we took a listen to ‘Jungleland'. Springsteen is at his finest on this groundbreaking album but it's Clarens Clemons' sax solo that really makes it Immortal. The Diabolical Challenge looked at four bands beginning with the letter ‘O'. The idea is that we have 4 albums, and you can only pick one. It was a treat to talk to the legendary Carlos Cavazo, who rose to prominence in the 1980s playing guitar for Quiet Riot as the band brought heavy metal music to the top of the Billboard charts. Carlos is now in Carmine Appice's 1980s band, King Kobra, and they've got a new album out called We Are Warriors. Carlos talked about how he joined forces with Carmine Appice and company, the making of the album, his musical origin story, joining and having success with Quiet Riot, briefly becoming a member of Ratt, and much more. Big thanks to Carlos for his time. Please hit the like button and/or leave a rating/review wherever you consume this podcast. On the 41st Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the 1988 self titled debut album, "BulletBoys" BulletBoys were led by trio of ex-King Kobra members, guitarist Mick Sweda, bassist Lonnie Vencent and lead singer, Marq Torien. The band added drummer Jimmy D'Anda. The band drew a lot comparison to Van Halen, due to them signing with Warner Brothers, their first album being produced by legendary Van Halen producer, Ted Templeman and the lead singer Marq Torien's style which resembled David Lee Roth. The Van Halen influence along with ACDC was evident as well in the music. The debut album led by singles, Smooth Up In Ya and For The Love Of Money, which were heavily played on MTV pushed the album to gold status. Torien's unique look and style and his amazing voice also brought attention to the band. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 39 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Sonny's pick as if anyone couldn't tell So give us a taste kissin' kitty or its one, two F You! Transmission 1991: Danger! Danger! The Dinosaurs are at severe risk of extinction unless they can quickly evolve into a down-tuned, depressed, dirgy, dirty, flannel-wearing anti-dinosaur! Living fossils that once rocked stadiums with shredding guitars, spandex, lipstick, and hair spray have purchased wah-wah pedals and must sing about something other than their love pumps! Listen with extreme caution, as they will surely collapse under the weight of their folly. You have been warned... Whatever…What's this InObscuria thing? Legendary rock drummer Carmine Appice returns to discuss the remastered re-release of the original Vanilla Fudge lineup's Led Zeppelin covers. The album, released in 2007 as Out Through the In Door, has gotten cleaned up, a new name (Vanilla Zeppelin), and a new track order and has recently been released. I spoke with Carmine about covering Zeppelin and then the conversation meandered to many other projects he's got in the works, including new King Kobra, new Carmine Appice & Fernando Perdomo, and a new Beck, Bogert & Appice release. The one and only Carmine Appice is this week's guest! Carmine has been a force with Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Rod Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne, Blue Murder, King Kobra, and several other bands and side projects and he's played with nearly every big name in rock music. I spoke with Carmine about a historic new release. A recording of the first ever Cactus concert was unearthed and released as The Birth of Cactus - 1970. It's a terrific document of the band's first live appearance. We also spoke about his work with other artists, such as Rick Derringer, Pink Floyd, Paul Stanley, and more. Find out more about Cactus at the band's official website. The album is a classic example of “A Covid Project.” Drummer Extraordinaire/ composer/ producer Carmine Appice (the musician who never sleeps…) and hot LA Session multi-instrumentalist/ guitar virtuoso Fernando Perdomo (featured prominently in the Netflix popular documentary ECHO IN THE CANYON and who recently released the TRIBUTE TO PAUL McCARTNEY'S RAM album) didn't even know each other just before the album was made. They were introduced online via the family of famed producer Tom Dowd. They started exchanging recorded tracks and 9 months later they had written and recorded a complete instrumental album, ENERGY OVERLOAD. A world-wide deal with Cleopatra Records followed soon after, and now the duo is looking at doing live shows and a 2nd album (with or without vocals). Perdomo has a myriad of projects and Appice still works with three other bands: Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and King Kobra. I have both Fernando and Carmine available for interviews. Please give the record a listen (streaming link below) and check out the first video, “Rocket To The Sun.”
