In a wide-ranging discussion, Kelly Dwyer and I discuss an inexpensive way to get ice off your driveway, why the Bulls aren't bright enough to have a lottery pick next year, why Arturas doesn't like to fill out trade paperwork, if Lonzo Ball will get a cadaver surgery named after him, Barron Hilton, Randal Grichuk, who was going to play Diane on Cheers before Shelly Long, how Woody Harrelson is involved in the two most gruesome bowling injuries in movie/TV history, why Bon Jovi's drummer wore a South Beloit football jersey in a video, Ted Danson and Macauley Culkin's cinematic masterpiece, Eddie Bird's "house", basketball shoes we wore in high school, my terror of playing third base at NIU, John Wooden's high school coaching days, Paul Goldschmidt's terrible decision to play for the Yankees and much, much more.
This week we talk about songs and albums by artists that the artists themselves have tried to lock away and bury! This is the continuation of our series that explores what happened when bands that had success in the 80s attempted to follow trends and remain relevant in the 1990s. Listen in as we discuss the varying degrees to which this worked, or where we had to ask, “What were they thinking?”What's this InObscuria thing? Our podcast exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This time around we are bringing you the most lost of the lost. The decade of the 90s was such a polarizing time for older bands that were still trying to remain relevant. Raise your hands, Slackers! After being prompted by a listener to check out Thank you, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, this week I give my thoughts on this legendary band and try to answer the question, “were they a hair band or just lumped in with them”?This is actually a really good question, and to be honest, it's hard to ignore the time in which they broke through, the sound of albums like Slippery When Wet and New Jersey, and the bands they toured with, when making that assessment. I think a case can be made that they were a hair band, but they didn't stay a hair band. While some bands tried to radically change their sound and image, Bon Jovi managed to shift ever so slightly within the framework of their existing catalog and sound. These subtle shifts kept fans interested, maintained the band's integrity, and allowed for them to continue producing platinum albums, with massive tours. There are only a few bona fide stadium level acts these days, and by sheer hard work and determination, Bon Jovi has remained one of the top tier rock acts for over 30 years. Not bad for a “hair band” out of New Jersey!

This week we pay homage to bands straddled the world of the 80s hard n' heavy and the 90s alternative n' grunge. These were bands that were somewhat outside of the status quo specifically in the hard rock and metal world that seemed to be playing music that was more genre and categorization-defying. Thus we created our own non-genre called; The Inbetweeners! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover all 3 categories and even some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the hard rockin' 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and some bands simply got caught in the middle. Go and check out these songs and the albums that they come from and enjoy some music from The Inbetweeners! Songs this week include:Naked Sun – “Psycho-Activate” from Naked Sun (1991)Funhouse – “Y.R.S.” from Generation Generator (1990)No Walls – “Naive” from No Wall (1992)Animal Bag – “Missing Out” from Animal Bag (1992)Red Sea – “Blood” from Blood (1994)The Hatters – “Sacrifice” from The Madcap Adventures Of The Avocado Overlord (1994)Loudhouse – “Faith Farm” from For Crying Out Loud (1991)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Get up and get moving this week as we present something to sing along with, while also being cracked in the ribs by fantastically distorted guitars! What's this InObscuria thing? Can you look at yourself and say ‘I am happy'? Supermodel Ellie Goldstein, who was born with Down's Syndrome, says she can. In this chat with Fearne, Ellie and her mum Yvonne talk about the obstacles she's overcome to grace the covers of Vogue and Glamour, as well as become the UK ambassador for a Barbie doll based on a person with Down's Syndrome. They chat about the importance of making sure kids feel a part of a community. It doesn't matter how quickly they pick up a hobby, or how good they are at it – what matters is that they're enjoying themselves. Against All Odds By Ellie Goldstein (with foreword by Katie Piper) is out now. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
