Stephanie Trenchard's multi-disciplinary creative process includes painting and poetry along with cast glass. With a focus on biographical stories of how women artists have navigated careers and partnerships, motherhood and making a living while still focusing on their creative practice, the work also discusses the price the art has to pay in this grand juggling act. The artist prioritizes the actual experience of the work, making and seeing it, over the classification of genre or ownership of an idea.  Says Trenchard: “I create my own visual vocabulary in storytelling. Using these totems, I tell stories about the artistic experience and the ensuing personal relationships usually based on true stories of artists from history. The subject of these narratives is often revealed in the title of the piece, but it is not necessary that the viewer be familiar with the subject in order to understand the concept because the metaphors are universal to the human condition.” Her work also involves using art as a way to communicate local activism as seen in her project About Sturgeon Bay. Born in Champaign, Illinois, in 1962, Trenchard earned her BFA in painting from Illinois State University in 1984. Subsequently, she and glass artist husband Jeremy Popelka relocated to San Francisco, California, where Trenchard designed textile patterns, licensed and sold under a private label. Upon returning to Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin in 1997, the couple built a hot shop and gallery that they share to this day. They assist each other with work as well as teaching projects, such as their recent classes in Thailand. As she assisted Popelka, Trenchard began to see glass casting as a means of translating textile patterns and other imagery to glass. The discovery of Paradise Paints allowed her to combine painting skills with glass art in the development of her award-winning body of work. Trenchard has developed a unique method of creating art using glass combined with paint. She first creates fully realized figures or objects in clear glass, which are then painted with high-fire enamels that are mixed and blended just as with oil or acrylic paints. Next, these three-dimensional objects or figures are submerged into molten glass encased in cubes and rectangles of clear sand cast glass. Each cube or rectangle is created so that they can be fitted tightly next to one another or on top, making a totem like structure. Coldworking is required to achieve the perfect fit. She states: “I have been following my own interests and curiosities concerning how these women have navigated their careers and artistic practices. I represent these ideas in glass through the details that speak to me, particularly the ephemera of material culture, furniture and clothing that encapsulate their era and class. I also rely on posture and facial expression to reveal the nature of the subject as I intuit it.” In addition to teaching in her studio, Trenchard has taught workshops at Pratt Fine Art Center, University of Wisconsin, The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass, The Bergstrom Mahler Museum of Glass and others. She was a lecturer at the Glass Art Society Conference, Murano, Italy, and established the first hot glass school in Southeast Asia, at Bangkok Glass, Thailand. Recent exhibitions include: Beyond Giving, Inspiring Change, Singapore Art Week, Singapore; Matriarchs of Mastery, Habatat Gallery, Detroit, Michigan; A Creative Place, Trout Museum, Wisconsin; and Beyond the Ceiling – Women of Studio Glass, Sarasota, Florida, Habatat Invitational, Michigan. Awards include Trenchard's 2025 Featured Poet award, presented by After Hours Journal, Chicago; 2023, 2024 Prize Winner at Habatat International Exhibition; and the 2020 AACG Wisconsin Artist Series at Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass. Says Trenchard: “Telling stories is what cultures do to understand the history and identities of the people. The small details in my work open up a conversation about the personal experiences of women in the arts as interpreted through history.”

By Adam Turteltaub There are hundreds of Compliance Perspectives podcasts, and this is the first one that is a podcast about podcasts. More specifically, the podcasts created by the compliance team at John Deere. The compliance team there had long looked to a wide range of tools for reaching the workforce including a monthly email newsletter, channel on internal social media, an intranet site and even digital signs on TV screens at their facilities. Yet, despite all this effort, they knew they could do more. As Wendy Davies-Popelka, the Associate Director, Global Ethics & Compliance, explains, the compliance team was listening to and hooked on several podcasts, and it occurred to them that they should try and create one of their own. So, they did. The podcasts are generally 5-10 minutes long and are based on actual cases that occurred at the company. Investigators, business people and others are interviewed to tell the story, from initial allegation through dispensation. The series has been very successful with a growing audience. Importantly, it has demystified the compliance program. To learn more about the podcasts and how easy they can be to create, be sure to listen to this podcast about John Deere's podcasts. Listen now

“Me quedé esperando. Ahora, yo gratis no trabajo. Trabajo honorario.

Or maybe a memory resurfaced years later, followed by a whole lot of emotions that you never really saw coming. What I've come to understand is that time does not heal all. Time allows some space to do something with the pain. But that something isn't always productive, especially if we try to let it process itself. So, how do we unpack our emotional suitcases to move through life a little lighter or, even better... fully engaged with the here and now? That's what we're talking about today. Our guest is Madeline Popelka. As Madeline began her healing journey, she felt the urge to create space for other trauma survivors on Instagram @healingfromptsd, which is now one of the largest trauma healing communities on Instagram. This week Dr. Lee is joined by Madeline Popelka, trauma survivor turned mental health advocate, as she shares her inspiring journey. Madeline is an author, and also the creator of the Healing from PTSD community. Her personal experiences with trauma, stigma and shame, often overlooked in literature around PTSD, echo through her voice, resonating with those who feel alone and unheard. Madeline's story is a vivid testament to the power of self-discovery and inner healing. She shares about her path to self-realization, how she learned to prioritize her needs over societal expectations, and how she found her true purpose and passion. Her life's trajectory, a clear deviation from her initial plans, is a symbol of her resilience and growth. Listen closely as she shares the wisdom she acquired from her healing journey - wisdom that will inspire you to find peace and contentment in your own journey. But healing looks different for everyone, and joy, as Madeline emphasizes, is essential to making life worth living. Even in the mundane, joy exists. Madeline shares insights as a nurse practitioner, and she explores understanding those who are stuck in a life they don't want but don't want to actively harm themselves. This enlightening conversation on healing from trauma and embracing individuality in the process is sure to inspire you to seek your own path towards healing.   Guest Bio:  Madeline Popelka is a trauma survivor, mental health advocate, and creator of @healingfromptsd, one of the largest trauma healing communities. PTSD symptoms don't always show up right after a traumatic experience. Sometimes the symptoms arrive years later when you least expect. For our special guest, Madeline Popelka - who is the Founder of one of the largest healing communities on Instagram and Author of the recently published book, You're Going To Be Okay - she didn't experience her PTSD symptoms that stemmed from childhood and generational trauma until her late twenties. In this conversation, Madeline and I talk about the healing journey and what that has looked (and felt) like for her. We expand on one of her most important lessons she learned on her journey - to hold onto the goodness and allow yourself to experience good feeling feelings, such as joy. We acknowledge the truth that even positive change can feel triggering for those healing from trauma and other truths as well. This is an honest and encouraging conversation between two women who have experienced trauma and have actively chosen (and continue to choose) to heal. Other topics we touch on include:Asking for help and support"Small" traumaThe myth that PTSD is a choiceTrauma anniversariesCreating safe space for trauma survivorsBecoming a truer version of youVisit Madeline's websiteFollow Madeline on InstagramSupport the showThank you for bringing this podcast into your present moment and thank you for consciously listening!
