Today, I talk about how thinking about the economy in a different way (inspired by Mark Blyth, my favorite economist and person to watch and listen to fyi) makes me think that we can approach kratom regulation and kratom market creation in a thoughtful way by, well, really ACTUALLY thinking about the policies, networks, regulatory possibilities and more as the complex set of systems that they are, the complex decisions that they will require, and as the complex plant that kratom is. This is not grammatically correct, I'm sure. But I think this is what I am trying to say so... I guess I think grammatically incorrectly.

His highly acclaimed TEDx talk The Importance of Being In-Authentic continues to reach millions of people, as does his own YouTube Channel. Most professionals are on video more these days than they ever thought they would be. As a result, making the best first impression on camera is more essential to our work than ever before. In this conversation, Mark and I explore several of the key principles that will help us start better in virtual interactions. Key Points We make judgment calls very quickly depending on how someone shows up visually. It's your duty to influence and persuade — and we all do this in some way already to change outcomes. While we're used to viewing content on screen (television, movies, YouTube) we aren't used to interacting and collaborating on screen. Use video in short, consistent ways. Tools like Loom can help us do on camera what we already know works well in person: regular interaction. Your smile can set the tone for an interaction and it's important to use a visual aid to remind you of this if you're staring at black boxes on screen. Bring your gestures into the camera frame. Gestures that match the cadence and rhythm can help connect your audience with your message. One of the joys of doing Dream Power Radio is that I get exposed to things I'd probably never learn about otherwise. This is how I became aware of a wonderful app that's not only fun to use but helps give you insights much in the way that dreams do. Radio8ball is the creation of multi-disciplinary artist Andras Jones. Before creating the app he'd spent over two decades hosting the Radio8ball show on radio and podcast and in live performances. In this episode Andras takes us through Radio8ball's journey and talks about:• How his father's dreamwork inspired his own work• What's a Pop Oracle?• How Radio8ball combines entertainment with the sacred• Why he says Radio8ball is a little like “picking musical Tarot cards”• How synchronicity comes into play with this• How he came up with the app• What I learned when I played Radio8ball Andras Jones is a multi-disciplinary artist (writer, musician, actor, producer) who has brought his many fields of endeavor together in an interactive performance format he calls Radio8Ball. Participants “consult The Pop Oracle” by asking questions which are answered by picking songs at random. The songs are performed live by the guest songwriter and interpreted…like communal dreams. This synchronistic format, which Andras has been presenting on radio, live stages, podcasts, in classrooms and at conferences since 1998, shares many similarities with dream seminars his father, Richard M. Jones, led at colleges and universities like Evergreen, Cornell, UC Santa Cruz, Brandeis and Harvard and wrote about in books like The Dream Poet, The New Psychology of Dreaming & Experiment At Evergreen. At the International Association for the Study of Dreams conference in Ashland in June, Andras Jones will be presenting a Radio8Ball show as a key note on June 19th with guest songwriter Bart Davenport. STEVE LOPEZ, award-winning columnist at the LATimes and best-selling author (The Soloist), just won a prize from Harvard for political reporting, but I don't think of him as a “Political Reporter”. He's a story-teller and the leading characters in his stories are the unsung heroes of Los Angeles. We talk about how he sees his role at the Times and in the community, his current take on Southern California and the state of journalism, and his new book (out 11/1), INDEPENDENCE DAY: What I've Learned about Retirement from Some Who've Done It and Some Who Never Will
There is an old adage that "opposites attract." And you do sometimes see couples that seem to prove the point. Still, just how common is it for very different people to be attracted to each other. This episode begins by explaining some research on the topic. http://www.livescience.com/5351-truth-opposites-attract.html How can you tell what someone else is REALLY thinking or what they REALLY want from you? If you know the clues to look for you can get a better idea of what is going on in their head. Joining me to explain how it works and how you can put it into practice is psychotherapist David J. Lieberman. David is the author of 11 books including Mindreader: The New Science of Deciphering What People Really Think, What They Really Want, and Who They Really Are. (https://amzn.to/3w6R95y). When you hear the word – shipwreck, you likely think of Titanic or maybe pirates and lost treasure. There have been movies, books and songs about shipwrecks presumably because there is something about them that seems to capture our imagination. Joining me to take a look into the dark and murky world of shipwrecks is Daniel Stone. He writes about science, history, and the environment and he is a former staff writer for National Geographic. His latest book is called Sinkable: Obsession, the Deep Sea, and the Shipwreck of the Titanic (https://amzn.to/3bY84R0). Listen as he explains how many shipwrecks there are, where they are, what happens if you discover one and much more. About one out of six people get food poisoning each year and it is always worse in summer. Listen as I explain why, and I will reveal the list of the most likely foods that cause food poisoning to help you prevent it from happening. https://www.cspinet.org/sites/default/files/media/documents/resource/cspi_top_10_fda.pdf PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS! Communication is a two-way street between the communicator and the listener. But 80% or more of communication is not the words we use, but in our speech patterns and the nonverbal ways we communicate our energy to the other person. The Enneagram helps honor each of our communication strengths so we can be understood and understand others more effectively. On this episode of The Leadership Formula, I explain what each of the other Enneagram types might be thinking when you're talking to them. We're talking about how you can develop next-level awareness when you are talking to the other Enneagram types in your life. For instance, Enneagram 3s and 8s want you to 'bottom line' them, while 4s like deep intense conversations and can talk about anything. I describe how the Enneagram 7s are the visionaries who love to hear your ideas and expound on them, plus they tell great stories. No matter how brilliant, how savvy, or how many skills you have, the relationships in your life won't work if you don't know how to communicate effectively. Listen in for insight into communicating with each Enneagram type accurately and authentically. If you're ready to dive deeper into your Enneagram type, head to TracyO'Malley.com to book your Enneagram Kickstart Session.
