In this bonus episode we bring you Laura's full interview with Vladimir Kara-Murza and his wife Evgenia. The Russian-British citizen was jailed in Russia after criticising President Vladimir Putin and the war in Ukraine. Evgenia has been fighting for his release ever since, and last month he was freed as part of the largest prisoner exchange since the Cold War.Another Newscast with Henry and Paddy, as usual, follows this one.
The world order is crumbling. The concept of finding a balance between great powers is redundant, as an alliance of autocratic states seeks to challenge global democracies more aggressively and directly and the institutions that underpin their societies. Of the four, three can be classed as quasi terrorist states, pariahs that seeks to maximise chaos and violence inn the world to further their own ends. Iran, North Korea and Russia. Do we need a new concept of global power to survive in this era, let alone thrive, as our values and institutions come under systematic assault from the axis of autocracy. ---------- Pyotr Kurzin is host of The Global Gambit podcast, as is an historian of great power politics and the Cold War. A few weeks ago, there was an awesome event in Brooklyn in partnership with UnHerd called Dissident Dialogues. It was exactly what it sounds like: debates and discussions on the most pressing questions facing our society today. Questions like: Have we reached peak woke? Can universities be saved? Can liberalism be saved? Is government censorship justified? Is this the end of mainstream media? and What is the future of feminism? So basically, just the light stuff. But probably the most contentious debate of the weekend was: Is Israel's war on Hamas a just war? This is not an easy debate. Emotions run hot, the stakes are high, people's morality is called into question, and there are a lot of competing narratives. Which is all the more reason to debate the topic in public, something we always advocate for at The Free Press. Arguing no, that Israel's war on Hamas is not a just war, are Briahna Joy Gray and Jake Klein. Briahna was the national press secretary for Bernie Sanders' 2020 campaign, and is host of the Bad Faith podcast. Arguing alongside Briahna is Jake Klein. Jake is a content creator for the Foundation for Economic Education, and he is a co-founder and editor at The Black Sheep. Arguing yes, that Israel's war on Hamas is a just war, are two of our very own Free Pressers, Eli Lake and Michael Moynihan. Eli is a columnist at The Free Press and a longtime journalist covering foreign affairs and national security. And Michael Moynihan, who you've heard guest-host Honestly, is a veteran journalist, having spent years at Vice, The Daily Beast, and Reason magazine. He is also a host of The Fifth Column podcast. The debate is moderated by the one and only Russian British satirist, co-host of the Triggernometry podcast, and Free Press contributor, Konstantin Kisin. Learn more about your ad choices. Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down in-person with Canadian lawyer Bruce Pardy and podcaster Konstantin Kisin. They discuss Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Bill C-63 (aka The Online Harms Act), what powers it gives to the government, what rights it strips from citizens, and why even Americans should be concerned.Bruce Pardy is executive director of Rights Probe, a law and liberty thinktank, and professor of law at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He is a lawyer, academic, columnist, and outspoken critic of the illiberal managerial state, fighting at the front lines of the culture war inside the law. Bruce writes for the National Post, Epoch Times, and the Brownstone Institute, among others, and serves as senior fellow at the Fraser Institute, the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, and the Frontier Centre for Public Policy. He has taught at law schools in Canada, the United States and New Zealand, practiced civil litigation in Toronto, and served as adjudicator and mediator on the Ontario Environmental Tribunal. The legal ground, Bruce has written, is shifting beneath our feet. The individual is losing to the collective. An ever-expanding bureaucracy regulates life from cradle to grave, including private behavior and speech, in the name of common good. The law has become discretionary, arbitrary, and unequal. The end of Western liberal civilization, as we have known it, is conceivable. Konstantin Kisin is a Russian-British satirist, social commentator, and co-host of the TRIGGERnometry Youtube show. He is also the author of “An Immigrant's Love Letter to the West,” a Sunday Times bestseller. He has written for several publications, including Quillette, The Spectator, The Daily Telegraph, and Standpoint, on issues relating to tech censorship, woke culture, comedy, and other topics, but he currently publishes articles on his popular Substack. Kisin made headlines in 2018 when he refused to sign a "safe space contract" to perform comedy at a British college and again in 2023 when he participated in an Oxford Union debate on the motion of "This House Believes Woke Culture Has Gone Too Far." His speech at the debate received viral attention and has been seen by over 100 million people around the world. - Links - 2024 tour details can be found here https://jordanbpeterson.com/events Peterson Academy https://petersonacademy.com/ For Bruce Pardy: On X https://twitter.com/pardybruce?lang=en For Konstantin Kisin: TRIGGERnometry Podcast / @triggerpod Substack https://konstantinkisin.substack.com/ Twitter https://twitter.com/KonstantinKisin?r...
COURAGE! Part 2 Tessa Szyszkowitz in conversation with Evgenia Kara-Murza HOW TO FIGHT PUTIN Two years ago, on February 24, 2022, Russia's president Vladimir Putin started a full-fledged war against neighboring Ukraine. Since then, Russia has occupied 11% of Ukrainian territory, killed or severely wounded 130.000 Ukrainian soldiers and – all according to Harvard Kennedy School Belfer Centre – about 10.000 Ukrainian civilians have died in the war. Putin's regime is also responsible for the death or severe injury of 200.000 Russian soldiers in that war. While the war rages on, Russian opposition politicians and critical journalists are not allowed to call it a war or to criticize it in any way. Who does gets sentenced to long prison sentences in a penal colony. Like Vladimir Kara-Murza. The Russian-British activist was arrested in April 2022 for denouncing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In April 2023 he was sentenced to 25 years in jail for “high treason”. His wife Evgenia Kara-Murza is leading a campaign for his release. In her talk she will explain under which inhuman conditions her husband is held. The treatment of political prisoners in Russia – next to Kara-Murza also Alexej Navalny, Ilya Yashin and many others – is deteriorating in the runup to the Russian presidential elections on March 15-17 are coming: “These elections are not legitimate”, says Evgenia Kara-Murza. Evgenia Kara-Murza is a Russian-American Human Rights Activist and wife of political prisoner Vladimir Kara-Murza. She is also a translator and the Advocacy Director at Free Russia Foundation. Tessa Szyszkowitz, is an Austrian journalist and author. She writes for Austrian and German publications such as Falter Tagesspiegel, she is also a Distinguished Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute in London. In Kooperation mit FALTER Radio

Triggernometry co-hosts Konstantin Kisin and Francis Foster joined Peter Boghossian for Spectrum Street Epistemology (SSE) in London. The discussion was held in front of Middlesex Guildhall, the building housing the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. Peter offered more than a dozen claims to Konstantin and Francis, initially focused on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Topics include Hamas, “proportionate” military response, Israel's right to exist, anti-Semitism, the incitement of violence, and the limits of free speech. This is part one of the conversation. Konstantin Kisin is a Russian-British satirist, podcaster, author and political commentator. In this interview, we discuss politics, freedom of expression, and the influence of American discourse on the UK. We also talk about the importance of rational and reasonable discussions, the challenges of self-censorship and the connection between economic issues and "wokeism". - - - - Cancel culture, the practice of publicly shaming or boycotting individuals or organizations deemed to have said or done something objectionable is a phenomenon that has gained prominence in recent years. The exact beginnings of cancel culture are hard to pinpoint, as public backlash and boycotts have occurred throughout history. However, the rise of social media platforms in the late 2000s and early 2010s significantly amplified cancel culture's influence. The problem is the impact cancel culture has in shaping societal discourse and accountability. Supporters view it as a way to hold people responsible for their actions, promote social justice, and challenge systemic issues. They argue that cancelling figures or entities who promote harmful ideas helps to create a more inclusive and equitable society. It can also serve as a form of empowerment for marginalized groups. And yet, cancel culture has faced strong and growing criticism in recent years for its significant negative impacts. The practice often lacks nuance or fairness, leading to disproportionate consequences for minor offences or misunderstandings without due process. Further, it fosters a culture of fear and self-censorship, as individuals may be afraid to express unpopular opinions or engage in critical discussions for fear of being cancelled. Perhaps the most minacious consequence is that cancel culture can lead to further polarization in society as people retreat into echo chambers and become more resistant to differing viewpoints. The effect is to critically hinder open dialogue and mutual understanding. Rather than engaging in constructive dialogue, people are being prevented the opportunity to engage in rational and reasonable debate. If we want to remain free we must be prepared to be offended. “Freedom has tradeoffs, freedom will mean you're less safe and freedom means people will say things you don't like; I'm okay with that, because I don't want to live in totalitarian China and I don't want to live in Soviet Russia, if you do that's fine, go there and live there.”— Konstantin KisinKonstantin Kisin is a Russian-British satirist, podcaster, author and political commentator. I would seriously appreciate it! __________________________________________________ Sir Isaiah Berlin (24 May/6 June 1909 – 5 November 1997) was a Russian-British social and political theorist, philosopher, and historian of ideas. Although he became increasingly averse to writing for publication, his improvised lectures and talks were sometimes recorded and transcribed, and many of his spoken words were converted into published essays and books, both by himself and by others, especially his principal editor from 1974, Henry Hardy. Born in Riga (now the capital of Latvia, then a part of the Russian Empire) in 1909, he moved to Petrograd, Russia, at the age of six, where he witnessed the revolutions of 1917. In 1921 his family moved to the UK, and he was educated at St Paul's School, London, and Corpus Christi College, Oxford. In 1932, at the age of twenty-three, Berlin was elected to a prize fellowship at All Souls College, Oxford. In addition to his own prolific output, he translated works by Ivan Turgenev from Russian into English and, during World War II, worked for the British Diplomatic Service. From 1957 to 1967 he was Chichele Professor of Social and Political Theory at the University of Oxford. He was president of the Aristotelian Society from 1963 to 1964. In 1966, he played a critical role in creating Wolfson College, Oxford, and became its founding President. Berlin was appointed a CBE in 1946, knighted in 1957, and appointed to the Order of Merit in 1971. He was President of the British Academy from 1974 to 1978. He also received the 1979 Jerusalem Prize for his lifelong defence of civil liberties, and on 25 November 1994 he received the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws at the University of Toronto, for which occasion he prepared a "short credo" (as he called it in a letter to a friend), now known as "A Message to the Twenty-First Century", to be read on his behalf at the ceremony. An annual Isaiah Berlin Lecture is held at the Hampstead Synagogue, at Wolfson College, Oxford, at the British Academy, and in Riga. Berlin's work on liberal theory and on value pluralism, as well as his opposition to Marxism and communism, has had a lasting influence. The New Culture Forum's spring conference 2022 took place on St. George's Day. Many of our viewers & supporters have said that they are tired of always hearing what's wrong with Britain & The West without anyone actually proposing real solutions to our problems. Offering solutions is a key mission of the New Culture Forum, and many of our conference speakers provided exactly that. Konstantin Kisin is a Russian-British comedian and political commentator. Kisin regularly writes for a number of publications including Quillette, The Spectator, The Daily Telegraph etc. on issues relating to tech censorship, woke culture, comedy and so-called "culture war" topics. He has co-hosted Triggernometry since 2018, a YouTube channel and podcast featuring fellow comedian and co-host Francis Foster. The show is dedicated to free speech and open discussion on a range of topics. In a compelling and entertaining speech, Konstain addressed the developing sense of self-loathing the Western sphere has adopted and offers an alternative perspective. Exploring race politics, free speech, immigration and more, Kisin argues that wrongdoing and guilt need not pervade how we feel about the West - and Britain - today, and that despite all its ups and downs, it remains one of the best places to live in the world.

Over the past 10 years or so, Russia's relations with the West have been reaching new lows. In bilateral terms, no other relationship has been more indicative of that trajectory than the one with Great Britain. The story of Russian-British ties, partnership, and animosity is thus important to explore. Joining the Kennan Institute's Maxim Trudolubov to discuss this is David Owen, a veteran British politician, who was active in Britain's Russia politics both in Soviet and post-Soviet Russian times. Lord Owen has just published the book Riddle, Mystery, and Enigma, taking a long view of the West's struggles to understand Russia.

Konstantin Kisin is a Russian-British comedian, podcaster, writer, and social commentator. In 2018 he refused to sign a university “behavioral agreement form” which banned jokes about religion and atheism and insisted that all humor must be “respectful and kind”. Safe to say, this made headlines everywhere. Konstantin and I had a conversation about the current landscape of comedy in the age of cancel culture, and how the suppression of speech is a chief issue for comedians at many venues. We also discussed the difference between the US and the UK in terms of history, culture, and free speech laws. We covered what role Twitter and the media play in the current social division that is spreading like wildfire - and if it's fair for trans athletes to compete against biological women. These are all very important topics to discuss. For a democracy to thrive, we need to be able to have genuine conversations on all topics without being scared of the repercussions. We need to stay focused on the content and topics at hand. If we don't talk about things that make us uncomfortable, we will never be able to move forward on issues in a healthy fashion. I hope you enjoy this episode. Konstantin Kisin My Take: Many of us have become so afraid to offend, or be offended, we forgot that conversation, and open communication, between all groups is the only way forward. If we kowtow to anyone without really analyzing, thinking things through, and letting the best ideas float to the surface - we ultimately will lose as a society. We all want the same thing - an equal, prosperous society for all. We just disagree on how to get there, and this is why communication via these platforms is pertinent. About Deprogrammed Hosted by former SJW Keri Smith, "Deprogrammed" is dedicated to unravelling Keri's former ideology. We'll explore the philosophy, strategy, and tactics that intersectional ideologues use to program "Social Justice Warriors," turning otherwise thoughtful, critically-minded individuals into armies of extreme leftist NPCs. Some episodes are interviews with special guests, and others are deep-dives into a different aspect of "social justice" culture, drawing both from Keri's personal experience as well as current events.
