Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson Faces Polling Disaster + Income Tax Repeal Fight Back to WA Supreme Court

Washington in Focus

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson is facing another troubling poll, with new Seattle Metro Chamber numbers showing her favorability falling from 57% in April to just 37%. Public safety appears to be a major concern as Wilson faces scrutiny over violent crime, the departure of Police Chief Shon Barnes, surveillance policy and an active recall effort. Meanwhile, the legal battle over Washington's income tax repeal initiative continues. The Washington State Supreme Court has agreed to have a panel consider Arthur West's emergency motion challenging the Public Investment Impact Disclosure that will appear alongside Initiative 645. West and Washington GOP Chairman Jim Walsh argue the disclosure could mislead voters about the fiscal impact of repealing the state's new income tax. And with five Washington Supreme Court seats on the November ballot, candidate Scott Edwards is challenging what he calls the state's “resign and appoint” model for filling judicial vacancies. Justice Colleen Melody, who was appointed by Gov. Bob Ferguson, pushes back on concerns that gubernatorial appointments compromise judicial independence. Washington In Focus Daily breaks down the polling, the latest income tax court battle and the growing debate over who should shape Washington's highest court. Send us Fan MailA local TV stand up comedy show from 1988 doesn't sound like it should feel fresh, but the moment the crowd comes up you can hear why we loved making Laughs at Laughs Unlimited in Sacramento. I'm Scott Edwards, and I'm bringing one of those original TV tapings over to the podcast as pure audio so you can experience the pacing, the room energy, and the working-comic craft that made comedy clubs the real training ground. We start with club favorite Frank Prinzi firing off tight, offbeat jokes that twist everyday life into something surreal, from food fears to childhood memories and the weird logic of getting older. Then Phil Bauman changes the texture with comedy rap and music-driven bits, bouncing from concert jokes to pop culture riffs in a style you don't hear on many stand up comedy podcasts today.Mid-show, I pause to set up a vintage TV sketch drop-in: our fake-celebrity character Tony King, played by my partner Bob Stobner with voiceover by Carlos Alazraqui (yes, that Carlos from Reno 911 and a ton of iconic voice work). After that, headliner Tim Bedore closes the night with sharp late-1980s political and televangelist satire, a reminder that the headlines have always been absurd when you look at them the right way.If you love classic stand up, comedy club history, and rare recordings from the Laughs TV series, this one's a treat. Send us Fan MailForty years doesn't happen by accident, especially in live entertainment. Lynn Stobener grabs the host chair and gets Scott Edwards and Bob Stobener talking through the real, unpolished origin story of Laughs Unlimited, one of Sacramento's defining stand-up comedy clubs. The early days are pure DIY: a tiny budget, borrowed know-how, side hustles that quietly trained them for the chaos of hospitality, and a willingness to figure things out in public. We dig into the moments that shaped the club's identity, from naming Laughs Unlimited and designing the logo to choosing independence over a comedy chain deal that almost happened. Scott and Bob explain how they learned production the hard way, cutting costs, building shows, and creating opportunities without waiting for credentials. Then we rewind to the Delta Queen basement days, the constant teardown-and-setup grind, and the sudden scramble to move locations when the room was threatened. If you love comedy history, you'll hear the human side of the 1980s comedy boom: favorites, regular road warriors, and the relationships that brought incredible talent through Sacramento. The stories get wild too, including the infamous “crap book” scrapbook notes and a legendary Robin Williams drop-in that nobody in the room forgets. If Laughs Unlimited or Sacramento comedy means something to you, subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show. Send us Fan MailA $5,000 lunch. A 30-year promise. A frozen walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to make the new year feel real. R. Scott Edwards sits down with comedian Mark Schiff for a warm, hilarious time-capsule of stand-up comedy history that starts in New York at The Comic Strip and stretches all the way to arena-sized shows with Jerry Seinfeld. If you love comedy stories that actually explain how this business works, you're going to get a ton out of Mark's memories and the hard-earned lessons underneath them.We talk about the crew Mark called “the funniest men in the universe” and the New Year's Day breakfast tradition that kept friendships alive through careers, travel, and chaos, including one year that turns into an international adventure. Then the tone shifts to something more personal: Mark shares how he quit drinking during a booked week at Laughs Unlimited in Old Sacramento, and we dig into that strange truth every working comic knows, the stage adrenaline that can carry you through sickness, stress, and doubt when the audience is waiting. From there it's pure “life on the road” gold: comedy condo disasters, long-distance phone scandals from the pre-cellphone era, and prank stories from touring. We also get a behind-the-scenes moment from the Seinfeld tour when Jerry gets food poisoning before a packed theater and Mark is told to go out and keep the show alive. Plus, you'll hear a full Mark Schiff stand-up set with sharp bits on 99 cent stores, Costco, parenting grown kids, and marriage. If you enjoy the show, subscribe, share it with a comedy fan, and leave a review so more people can find it. From Staples Center to The Shop: Jordan Hayman on Building a Career Without a Roadmap

Trailer Geeks and Teaser Gods

Jordan Hayman has sat in almost every seat in this industry. Jumbotron editor for the Lakers during their championship run. Creative executive at Alkemi, working indie theatrical. Client-side at Lifetime under the legendary Bob and Lew. Broadcast division builder at AV Squad. And now, founder of The Shop, the boutique he always knew he'd build from the moment he was running packages around town for Tony Seiniger as a high schooler. This one goes deep on the career, the grind, and the decisions that don't have clean answers. Jordan talks about what it took to start a broadcast division from scratch, why building relationships from day one at Fox Sports in 1996 was the most important business strategy he never consciously planned, and how working both sides of the table made him a better vendor. We also get into The Last Dance and what it was like to cut over a hundred trailers for the most anticipated sports documentary in years, the Tyson-Paul Countdown for Netflix, and the theatrical sensibility that separates The Shop from most broadcast-focused competitors. Key Takeaways The Relationship Is the Portfolio From his first internship to founding The Shop, Jordan's career has run on relationships built with patience and maintained with consistent delivery. Creativity matters, but so does customer service, speed, and knowing what it feels like to be on the other side of the table. Working Both Sides Changes Everything Spending time as a network executive at Lifetime gave Jordan something most agency-side people don't have: a first-hand understanding of what clients actually need. When he went back to the agency side, he knew exactly what a room like Bob and Lew's expected to see. Build a Division Like You're Proving It's Possible Starting AV Squad's broadcast arm from nothing was terrifying. Jordan spent months with almost no work and nearly convinced himself he'd be fired. Scott Edwards told him to enjoy the calm before the storm. He was right. Theatrical Sensibility Is Non-Negotiable Now The line between broadcast, streaming, and theatrical has effectively collapsed. Jordan and his partner Nick Shakarian brought theatrical DNA into every network campaign they touched, and that cross-pollination is now the price of admission for anyone doing serious streaming work. Surround Yourself with All-Stars The hardest part of starting a company isn't the creative. It's everything else. Jordan's solution was simple: find the best people for every role and get out of their way. Notable Quotes "From day one, from Fox Sports, from 1996 — everybody I came in contact with, I tried to be good to them." "When I was done working for Bob and Lew, I thought to myself, I can do anything. Not everybody made it out of there alive." "That was definitely my master's degree." "I am not a business person. I'm a creative person." "My dad told me not to do it. But I wouldn't want to do anything else, man." His Chicago upbringing provides fertile ground for relatable comedy about Catholic school nuns, the differences between single and married men at grocery stores, and the unique challenges of buying certain products. Jimmy's perfectly crafted punchlines remind us why he was a television regular during comedy's golden age.Next comes Tom McTigue, whose Baywatch fame takes a backseat to his brilliant comedic mind. Tom's extended bit about the nuclear-hot temperature of chicken pot pies evolves into an unexpected meditation on international relations, while his description of discovering cat vomit in the middle of the night creates visceral comedy gold. His ability to take mundane observations and transform them through vivid storytelling demonstrates why he was a crowd favorite for over a decade.Jerry Miller, a Napa Valley native, brings his wine country perspective to a special outdoor recording from "Laughs in the Park." Jerry's takes on pretentious wine tasters and the challenges of parenting twins resonates especially well with the family crowd. His bit about mothers' superhuman ability to handle dirty diapers compared to squeamish fathers highlights the gender differences that still make for reliable comedy material. The episode culminates with ventriloquist Jay Johnson, famous for his role on the sitcom "Soap." Jay and his puppet "Bob" showcase why ventriloquism remains a beloved art form when executed at the highest level. The chemistry between the strait-laced Jay and his inappropriate wooden partner creates a tension that drives the act forward to consistent laughs.Tune in to experience these comedy masters at work and appreciate the different approaches they take to the universal goal of making people laugh. Send us a textDeath has never been funnier as legendary road comic Bob Worley transforms roadkill encounters into comedy gold in this special Audience of One bonus show. Bob kicks things off with a perfectly executed misdirection, asking host Scott Edwards about those heart-stopping moments when animals dart in front of your car – only to reveal he's never experienced this himself and is shocked that Scott apparently has a history of vehicular animal slaughter. The comedy builds as Bob shares increasingly absurd scenarios, including a friend who hit a deer and proudly displayed its duct-taped antlers as a trophy. The hilarity reaches new heights when Bob contemplates the physics of hitting a cow – "How does a cow dart out in front of your car? Don't they just mosey along?" His vivid descriptions of udder-hindered bovine movement will have you laughing despite yourself. The comedic climax arrives with Bob's confession about hitting a pigeon named "Billy" who tragically miscalculated his escape timing, followed by the other pigeons' pragmatic response to their friend's demise – "Oh, Billy didn't make it" – before proceeding to eat him in what Bob philosophically calls "the circle of life."This episode showcases exactly why Bob Worley has been a comedy staple for over four decades. Scott Edwards delivers comedy gold with headliner Ronnie Kenny, a comedian whose impressive resume includes serving as house emcee at major clubs nationwide and numerous television appearances.Kenny wastes no time connecting with audiences through his hilarious take on exercise avoidance. "Today I did a sit-up. Have you tried one of those lately? I got real lightheaded. I stopped that immediately, boy. I got up, grabbed a beer and a cigarette and laid back down again." His self-deprecating humor strikes a chord with anyone who's ever made half-hearted attempts at fitness. The comedian then launches into a brilliant comparison of whiskey drinkers versus beer drinkers when confronted by police, showcasing whiskey drinkers' quick-witted excuses ("This is a stealth car. I bought it from the Air Force") against beer drinkers' hilariously incriminating honesty ("Of course I was speeding. I'm out of beer"). Kenny's observational skills shine brightest when tackling laws against drunk bicycle riding, where he imagines ridiculous PSA campaigns: "Friends don't let friends pedal drunk." “Not only do we see that we can succeed, but even if we fail, we just get up, dust ourselves off and try again.”  A clear path emerges: work hard, listen harder, and choose businesses you're genuinely excited about. Success isn't just profit; it's finding vehicles that keep you curious and energized, then learning fast when the market teaches tough lessons. The episode distills a practical mindset: sell well, listen well, and keep your timing sharp—because opportunity rewards those who ship before the boom.  From clubs to submarines, Scott Edwards shows how passion and experimentation can compound into track records (and stories) that money alone can't buy. He leans on sales, timing, and relentless curiosity, while admitting mistakes, pivots, and the importance of dusting off and trying again. The result is an approach to entrepreneurship that's joyful, gutsy, and teachable.  Scott is a lifelong entrepreneur and producer who launched one of America's earliest full-time comedy clubs in 1980, worked with Gary Shandling, George Wallace, Bob Saget, Dana Carvey, and Jerry Seinfeld, produced TV series and large concerts, owned multiple companies (including a tourist submarine), and now hosts the Tag Team Talent Podcast.  Learn more & connect:  Book: Be a Standup Comic, or Just Look Like One by Scott Edwards  Book: 20 Questions Answered About Being a Standup Comic by Scott Edwards  Tag Team Talent Podcast: on YouTube and Spotify. And just like that--it's Saturday again! Lucky we ran into ya too, 'cause the Wolfe Pack has got a LOT of show to handle, and a short crew to handle it with: Johnny C. is still on a buying spree, fresh in from a week's worth of car shows, rallies and races in Cali--with lots of stories to tell and car market wisdom to share; our own JD Ryan has the corner on "hard info" that's worth knowing about, with stories you won't believe (and probably shouldn't) about what's going on in this bad ol' world; Bobbo's got  the typical bevy of insights and weird tales to share...and of course, we deliver it all with a healthy dose of our own inimitable mix of news, sports, politics and world events...and visits from our old friends Joe Exotic, the Reverend Charles, Johnny Cash, and a baby 'cloud leopard' brought by the Tiger King's friend Scott Edwards. So wear your claw proof butt muff, and hang with the Wolfe pack, partner! We're glad to see ya.
