A comedy podcast about whatever is in the brain knowledge files and interests of stand up comedian, writer and actor Edwin Sammon. Baking, movie reviews, original songs, original shows within the show, fantastic cover versions of classic songs, exclusive celebrity interviews and more!
Ed and Cara hold an emergency podcasting session to talk about what seems on the surface to be a PR distaster at best, a deep conspiracy involving cover ups and revenge killings with a sprinkling of affairs and photoshopping at worst. The truth is somewhere in between maybe. Does this signal the beginning of the end for the British monarchy? Listen in to find out!
Ed is back with a brand new microphone and a brand new agenda! To figure out what kind of kinky stuff was happening on the Holodeck in Star Trek the Next Generation and if we are headed in the same direction. Also he has news about his upcoming stand up show and he poses the question of what question you would ask God if you got the chance after taking too many mushrooms. all this plus a surprise Valentine's Day appearance from Cara and some other live comedy recommendations.
Ed and Cara went to the movies and saw the now billion dollar Barbie movie! What did they think about it? Listen and find out, it's a very mild to no spolier discussion on the merits of this unique film. Ed then runs through the top movies coming from the Mattel slate of films in development and whether they seem like excellent cinematic opportunities or just weird intellectual property cash ins. Enjoy!
Hey Sammon Skins, welcome to the new season of the show where I will be talking to other human people instead of to myself and/or characters I'm playing, which is also to myself. The first batch of episodes features conversations with my favourite person in the world, Cara Murphy, my wife and Mother of our tiny human boy. The concept for the podcast came from our first date, where I was so nervous I didn't ask Cara any questions and she has never let me forget. So to make up for this I'm asking as many questions as I can as we discuss the heyday of reality TV in the early 2000's and why you should give the Kardashians a go plus other asides and sillyness. Enjoy!
Barry Gibb returns to pay tribute to the late Coolio in his own unique style and tell me of his love for fish oil in jars and the run in's he has hand with alligators in his home in Florida alongside many other strange topics of conversation. There's ad breaks for bird based postal services and more! Enjoy and don't forget to share, rate, like, subscribe and tag a mate!
Brendan Blowhard, former professional karaoke singer and constantly unlucky in love Dublin man joins Ed to talk new love, expressions for sale and his new venture into writing advertisment jingles on spec. He shares his latest work in progress tunes to the bafflement of Ed.
Poor old Lizzy, the Queen of England, has popped her clogs and they are now being worn by Charles. Some people have very strong feelings about her death, grown men who look like the kind of tough east end of London types are crying over her passing. Are they brainwashed? Am I through the quality of the Crown series? Or m I simply casually indifferent which I have learned can be a dangerous thing in this day and age of the hot take. I go through my feelings and compare the ex-Queen to a famous superhero and also dissect the various reactions to her death. Enjoy!
I'm back baby! A soft reboot into season 2! No numbered episodes, More silly stuff, less straight white man gives his opinion episodes and some special movie ones from time to time! Whenever I make them, I put them out, that's the plan! This episode I'm talking about heckling from my own recent gig and the general difference when it comes to men and women who heckle. Also, would you really kill baby Hitler if you had the chance? All this plus a bit more. Head over to my patreon and get 100 per cent extra free! https://www.patreon.com/user?u=9483740
It's coming closer to the end of this podcast in it's current form as I realise halfway through telling my story about my first ever trip abroad to Amsterdam that I've mentioned it before on the pod. It's full of extra detail and I talk about my trip to Morocco also which is new. Anyway, there are also some songs and some excellent impressions of Tom Jones as the rambling off the top of my head pods are coming to an end. What's next? Focused and shorter pods with more sketches and less waffle! Enjoy!
It's a New Year and things are looking cautiously optimistic, maybe. I've been living with Covid as Cara tested positive on Christmas Eve and myself and baby Luke soon after so it's been a stressful one. Also, Super Valu never delivered our turkey so we had ham for Christmas. Not ideal but I got to watch some things and will give you my review of them as well as my top ten Christmas treats and a couple of festive songs to ring in the New Year. Enjoy!
This week I mention Bressie again in the opening improvised theme tune lyrics along with Ryan Turbridy and I go into a long explanation as to why I don't really have much time for either of them and recount the time I watched a newsreader in his underwear and walked past a car that had actor Richard Gere in the "hallowed" halls of the national broadcaster. There's also some rapping and a really bad impression of Sly Stallone being interviewed on an imaginary "Chat" show. Enjoy!
This weeks episode sees a new high for my six month old son Luke as he becomes already better at swimming than all the other babies his swim class and also and his father. Me. Who can't swim. I also give some recommendations for music not on my Spotify wrapped top five and also a band with a new documentary that I discuss and a link to some old music from a little known band found at the link below.https://soundcloud.com/majestykallstars/sets
This week I'm hungover and soaking in the lake of my life memories and briefly slagging off Bressie in the process before having a rapping old time and dissecting the very existence of Santa Claus and my loss of innocence as a child when I discovered he wasn't real. It's also the season for seasonal sandwiches which sometimes contain controversial ingredients. There's a podcast recommendation and various asides. Enjoy! x
This week I lay down some knowledge about what gruel is exactly as Luke joins me briefly to chew on things and be sampled for a bit of hip hop. I'm wandering the streets with sacks of dirty clothes and I explain why grating carrots is not like grating carriages and old friend of the podcast Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees calls in to talk about his very Bee Gee centric Halloween and write the theme tune for the as yet unmade horror film An American Werewolf In Miami off the top of his head. Enjoy!
This week's episode features lots of random rambles and some almost factually correct improv raps about French mermen and Paris monuments. The passive aggressive swimming instructor sage continues, I talk about Star Wars for a few minutes and imagine how the Sith and the Jedi would behave on social media plus some live stand up comedy from me in The Comedy Crunch from just last week with post gig heckling stories and other tales from the circuit. Enjoy!
It's post Halloween if you know what I mean, I'm making inappropriate jokes when trick or treaters are on the scene, I'm trying to bust rhymes while babies scream, I'm crossing over the Liffey as I'm back on the stand up scene. Also the corona isn't going away but that's no reason to be sneezing this season. All this plus extra bad rhyming and a song with no lyrics for you to complete possibly. Enjoy!
This week's episode is all bout spooky things and real scary things. Why was one of the actors in the Exorcist actually kind of cursed? Is it the scariest film of all time? What's the deal with my old clothes from the 90's and how come there are no ghosts from recent times? Also, there's a story about my personal ghost hunting in Scotland and a freestyle rap from Simon the friendly vampire (but not too friendly). Enjoy!
As it's getting closer to Halloween I delve into the supposed curses that have been appropriated with certain movies and the myths around others in the wake of the tragic on set death on the Alec Baldwin starring western "Rust". An opening theme song improv reminds me of a questionable set of lyrics in an old 80's classic and I have an incident or two at a baby swimming class. All this plus my sure fire baby book idea! Enjoy.
It's an extra episode that you could have every Sunday if you wanted to as it's direct from my Patreon page! I'm reacting to the Batman trailer that just dropped like a hot potato with a superhero carved into it's face and the Flash trailer that also features more Batmen. It's a bat bonanza! Also, I ponder if Sean Connery could ever play Batman and talk about algorithms and demographics and how we don't fall over physical copies of movies or TV shows. All this plus some improv songs about American foodstuffs and the Squid Games that I haven't seen yet. Enjoy and do consider becoming a Sammon Skin on Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/join/4160304?
This episode sees me just ranting in a nice way about the proliferation of negative vibes online and how it can blind you to what you may actually enjoy. I talk about how George Lucas and others have their fingers on the pulse of the Zeitgeist and go through the recent Wonka prequel announcement and the Ghostbusters sequel reactions. Plus, a snippet of Cocaine City, a soap opera that does not exist. Enjoy!
This week I am determined that my alter ego "Captain frugal" should be triumphant in his quest for good and cheap nappy bags and win Father of the year. It's probably best to listen to that on 1.5 speed until you get to my theory for how the world news is going to be delivered in the new future. There's a bunch of cartoon show reviews and the book reading , my work in progress book and specifically a section concerning my worst gig when I was starting out, my third gig that had a bit that I wouldn't quit. It's a rambling, sleep deprived podcast! Enjoy!
This week I ponder the last Daniel Craig Bond movie being released and whether or not he's an attractive man who needs his face ironed which leads to a discussion about ironing in general. Also, Luke and I attended our first baby bonding session with other babies learning about sounds and shapes and massage which leads me to discuss the cast of characters he plays with at home. Plus I reveal my shocking self romping techniques after being blackmailed over the internets! Enjoy!
I'm back once again with the podcasting and I'm giving an update on what I've been up to before my son is cuddled out of the room which leads me to write a song about how much of an angel baby he is. There's a thorough dissection of an old Cornish legend and a few hot takes on a few lukewarm issues. Enjoy!
A new theme tune again opens this episode featuring more children's stories being dissected and some Beatles chat after watching the new Disney plus show with Rick Rubin and Paul McCartney that's not a sponsor of the podcast but a great show and there is an eventual ice cream deal you can seek out from supermarkets also not sponsered by this podcast. All this, Plus, a reading from my book which is halfway first drafted, there's two chapters here in rough audiobook form. Enjoy!
I'm back from the Scotland and I have tales from the Edinburgh Fringe including a new stand up bit born out of annoyance and the most unusual audience members I've ever performed to. I talk about having my comedy brain switched on again and briefly mention covid before breaking down a seemingly cute yet ultimately disturbing children's story. There's also an announcement regarding the future of the pod. Enjoy!
It's the latest episode where I start talking about my baby boy's sleep habits but go off on several tangents before finally returning to it towards the end. This should be of no surprise to anyone who's heard the podcast before. Tangents include the treasure trove of movie memorabilia that my sister in law's Uncle had in his possession, how I would re-edit Aliens, why dog parents are not real parents, recalling the one time I met the late Sean lock, how you can get into the movie business through just sheer dumb luck, the return of live comedy and the latest episode of Baby Detective guest directed by Michael Mann! Enjoy!
I'm joined this episode by Cillian, my nephew who has a new favourite actor who isn't Al Pacino and gives us his two cents on the Black Widow movie. My niece Roisin gives the perfect answer as to why horror films are enjoyable to watch and she finds out the worst thing you can do on a podcast so trigger warning; the episode contains mild eating ice-cream noises. There's also a mini interview with Luke, my thoughts on the pandemic and where we are now and the latest episode of Baby Detective. Enjoy!
I'm on the road recording from my bedroom in Birr, Co. Offaly, which turns out to be more difficult than usual. I'm also fresh from a first family holiday with Cara and Luke where we encountered a busybody, some boat wankers and also some lovely times. I get a little bit political talking about covid fatigue as I return to stand up and there's the latest episode of Baby Detective. Enjoy!
I'm back with a new episode that contains two tiny bits of baby knowledge that are peppered throughout in small doses like a vaccine and are very interesting but there is also a defence of baby talk and why I feel it's ok to talk baby. There's an improvised song about love making in hot weather, some bad analogies about toast, a desperation of the eventful trip Cara, Luke and I made to Birr, Co. Offaly and an exploration of a rabbit hole video I came across that I made into a jingle featuring Gary Oldman. All this plus episode two of the sow within the show, Baby Detective!
It's a new episode and I'm keeping the baby chatter to a minimum as I understand how annoying it can be for people to talk about their babies. I actually don't care about anyone else's and that's justified. Plus, there are bigger things happening like the news that aliens may be real.! I'm not so sure. Also, some tips for the sun, some improv songs and the next episode of the thrilling new show, "Baby Detective". Enjoy!
Back from a hiatus with some more baby chat but I'm mainly talking about strange and unusual cultural appropriation from an influencer who is white and English but now is Korean somehow. Eighteen surgeries helped. Also, what's going on with Alec Baldwins wife and is the Dutch accent something to be culturally appropriated? All this plus a preview of new show "Baby Detective" and some improv singing. Enjoy!
Luke Sammon has finally arrived and I am delighted and in love but also sleep deprived and unsure of what sunglasses are for! The story of his birth is one where I resist the urge to mansplain about the work of Elton John, I feel a potentially murderous urge to defend my newborn and some other parents maybe not being the greatest make me feel like i'm gonna be OK at this whole Daddy business. Plus, a new, potentially mega hit show that came to Cara in a dream. All this plus a guest appearance by Luke himself! Enjoy!
It's a podcast of two halves as, firstly, I tackle a bunch of hot takes on T-Shirt slogans and coffee loyalty cards amongst others and also a sidebar on why dogs eat grass. There's a mini improvised rap before finally a recording of a 2018 gig from the wonderful basement room that is the Comedy Crunch at The Stag's Head in which I am on seemingly nervous but good form plays out for the second half. Enjoy!
The day of the baby's arrival is fast approaching and I outline the various dental procedures I have gone through over the years that amount to almost exactly the same as childbirth I'd imagine. I also explore why anyone would want to be a dentist and whether or not they can or should be trusted and I finish my dental rant with a recital of a poem about looking after your teeth I remember from primary school. I've auditioned remotely for a Hollywood movie that will be shooting in the next couple of months, I talk about gender specific baby nonsense and describe a dream I just had where I embarrassed myself and also perved on Princess Diana. Enjoy!
After a long hiatus and with the literal days ticking down to the birth of my first child I ponder the very existence of owning your own human being. I talk about some weird parenting behaviour I've noticed. I about my resemblance to a Limerick man from the nineteen seventies. All this plus my short Reggie Watts inspired improv song, my lukewarm takes on the notion of super soldiers in Marvel TV shows and I read out the glut of YouTube comments left on my video of Donald Trump dancing and demanding the finest beautiful men as well as give you the news of my very first driving lessons. Spoiler alert, I'm a natural! Enjoy!
This week I'm talking babies babies babies, so cute you just want to eat them up like ice-cream! But don't, that is frowned upon. Myself and the lovely Cara take a two day antenatal class with a zoom room full of strangers. Will there be actual knowledge in this episode? Yes, surprising and strange facts about the sometimes mysterious facts of childbirth. Also, I justify having a child in a dangerously overpopulated and troubled world. Plus, the only April Fool's prank that I fell for back in 2005 and what my younger pranking self used to get up to in phone boxes. All this and a little song about ice-cream at the end. Enjoy!
The podcast is a year old! To celebrate Ed has a bunch of surprises and jingles in store. There's a celebrity interview with Sir Barry Gibb and he sings Ed's favourite Bee Gees song! Ed gives one of his famous lukewarm takes on things and rambles about the past year, there's an improvised country and western song dedicated to his parents, a teaser trailer for the new season of Space Notes and a tune from unknown Dublin rapper MC Red Line Lewis. Enjoy and thanks to everyone who has listened so far, Ed (that's me writing in the third person) really appreciates it. x
Here's a very niche episode from last year that previously was only available to my Patrons and its all about the band Radiohead on the twenty year anniversary (last year) of their divisive and seminal album, "Kid A". With a new introduction and outroduction I ramble on about why I love them so much and music in general, certain associations I have with certain songs and I end with a troubadour cover of "Idioteque", one of my faves from the LP. Enjoy. x
It's a new and improved podcast recorded for the first time on Garageband which has led to me recording an inspired and pumping new theme tune and my first attempt at putting a silly tune together which I have done in a silly accent for some reason. It's about love and pancakes. There's some talk about the strange pronunciations of American style wording that is very French for some reason, an awkward encounter with a casual acquaintance in a park that left me shook, a short telling of an old Irish folklore tale that leads to why I kind of have a deep hatred for Paddy's Day that stems from simple childhood boredom. All this and the amazing revelation that people in Taiwan are changing their names to "Salmon" for free sushi!
This week i'm thinking back about the old days when Roy Orbison was still alive and cassette tapes were a valid media, how Spring has not quite sprung yet but that hasn't stopped lads from wearing shorts and how a book on becoming a father from 1995 has some advice that might be mistaken for being from fifty years before. All this plus a bonus bit of actual live stand up! Enjoy!
This week on the podcast I talk about my issues with internet 'Stans' and how a refunded ticket to a cancelled event led to some crazy dreams from Cara and myself. But before I get around to describing our individual dreamscapes I demonstrate the improvisation skills that the Norwegians are loving so much and attempt a terrible impression of what one of my listeners from Australia might sound like but probably doesn't. There's also a review of my kitchen layout featuring a Russian doll bin-bag situation and what I consider to be the biggest crime when it comes to Irish kitchens. All this plus a one minute review of the latest episode of 'Wandavision'. Enjoy!
This week I eventually get around to talking about the latest pregnancy scan where I get to see my baby boy in profile but not live and in the room but before all that I go on a ramble down various side alleys including whatever the hell is going on with Armie Hammer and what kind of a name is that to be calling anybody by? Also for the tough times that's in it I have written a special guided meditation to keep you centered and safe on a beach with me, in your minds eye. so RELAX, or else! And enjoy!
It's a special day celebration as I tell you how I like my pancakes done and what's on them. Plus, what is a shrove anyway? Did I really steal a meal to feed my drinking habit? Yes and no. Also, what does a seventh son of a seventh son have to do with a cure for warts? Can you smoke a stock cube and does it need to be beef or chicken? All will be revealed in my casual drug history plus an Irish pop classic covered in a soulful way. Enjoy.
This week the never ending continuous routine of the pandemic has made some people compare this lock-down to the film Groundhog Day but I contend it's not really like that at all and we should be thankful that it's not. But before I even get to that there is a lot of waffle and gallows humour as well as some fake religious sermonising and radio DJ banter that has me wishing for the quote, unquote normal times. All this plus a hypocritical take-down of social media. Follow me online and prove my hypocrisy and enjoy the song at the end while my brain has some technical difficulties.
This week Ed talks about the horror of dog poop and the mystery of wasp infiltration as well as the fox spotting he has been getting up to. Meanwhile what online snooping has his Father Gerry has been up to? There's a fine line between creepy and romantic as Ed explains in his review of The Notebook and he ponders why The Power Of Love never won a best original song Oscar. All this plus some Irish disco flavoured German Techno and Brendan Blowhard gives us his best Huey Lewis impression.
This week Ed is apologetic but hopes you understand that he needed a week off just like everyone else. Ed and the lovely Cara went on a strange but beautiful Sunday afternoon date and Ed also reveals a mystery on his road. The outcome will shock, surprise and amuse you. Ed also talks about the cheesy goodness that is Cobra Kai on the streaming tellybox, The Last Of Us on the videogamebox and dips into the mailbag with questions and answers sent in by some of his Instagram friends. All this plus a heartfelt special rendition of 'Father and Son'. Enjoy!
A deep dive into the making of a classic spaghetti western. But why is it called that? How did Eli Wallach almost die several times during production? What was cut out of the movie and reinserted and is it any good? Why did Clint Eastwood think he was being short changed? Hear about all this and more plus my pitch perfect Sergio Leone impression on this episode of the podcast that's designed to be listened to while going asleep but sure you can listen to it whenever you like, I won't mind.
It's another episode of the podcast where, this week, Ed finally reviews the horny second half of Bridgerton and gives his two cents on the sequel to Wonder Woman which is set in 1984. Is this a clever reference to George Orwell? No. There's nothing clever about this movie. Ed also talks about a treasure trove of old Uncut magazines he has recently come into possession of and reads from a article concerning Elvis and his love of horribly bad for you foodstuffs. Ed also reveals his 'love' of Elvis and talks about the generational gap between himself and his future Father in Law when it comes to the medium of video games and Turkish dramas. Enjoy.
It's another movie favourite from my childhood, a run through of Tim Burton's funny and scary and horny ghost with the most in the form of Michael Keaton's title character. But what's his real name? No, not Betelguese. Michael. Who could have been cast, what's a scat got to do with it? What's a BeetleMoose? Why is there a full run through of terrible talking horse comedy 'Hot To Trot', a movie with an inflatable sex horse in the middle of this episode.?! Feel sleepy, get comfortable, stick it on and find out. Then sleep. Enjoy.
Ed puts this classic action adventure filum to bed with soothing tones and calming factoids on the making of the movie. There are hot takes and some casting alternatives along with asides, lukewarm takes, bad impressions and some surprising and controversial left turns the movie could have made in its casting and production. And whether or not you could call Hitler "a nut" in 2021 or would you have to say he has "mental health issues"?
It's the end of the year and Ed hasn't much to review! One stand up gig and one new movie watched in the cinema since the pandemic started but he's joined by very special guest Sir Paul McCartney who chews the fat and does his impressions of the other Beatles. Ed also talks about new hip show Bridgerton. He also reviews the first Dad book he has received. Will it prepare him for impending fatherhood or is it a load of nonsense? All this plus Ed sings a happy apocalypse song to see out the old year. Enjoy!
