On this episode of The City's Backyard Podcast we  go out to Seattle, Washington to chat with Steve Fossen Co Founder and Original HEART Bassist about his days in HEART! Today Steve is in a new band called HEART by HEART! The Story of Heart By HeartThe original rhythm section for Heart - one of classic rock's most successful and revered bands - is still locked in and delivering those iconic songs as faithfully as possible, says bassist and co-founding member Steve Fossen (a member of Heart from 1969 to 1982), of his band Heart By Heart. Along with former Heart drummer Michael Derosier (1975-1982), vocalist Somar Macek, Lizzy Daymont on guitar, keyboards and vocals, and guitarist Chad Quist, Fossen says Heart By Heart is committed to playing the music with as much reverence and respect as possible. “Our mission is to perform the classic Heart music as faithfully as we can,” according to Fossen. Heart By Heart began organically as a duo when Fossen met vocalist Somar Macek in 2008. “We started out playing dinner parties, bistros and jam nights around town,” Fossen said of the musical pairing. By 2009, Fossen and Macek were a couple and have since married. “We were so in love, we decided to call the project Heart by Heart,” Fossen says. When booking agents began requesting a full band, Fossen welcomed the opportunity to once again play professionally with Derosier while sharing the stage with his new love, Somar. Heart By Heart presents a powerful, dynamic show that includes all the favorite Heart hits such as Barracuda, Straight On, Crazy On You and Magic Man, as well as deep album cuts that Heart fans will love. “We take the music very seriously,” said Fossen. “Ann and Nancy Wilson are rock's premiere sisters, and with Heart By Heart, we respect and honor that music we made together.” Aside from regular repeat appearances around their Pacific Northwest home base, Heart By Heart has been touring the US since 2014, taking their show on the road to Performing Arts Centers, indoor and outdoor theaters, casinos, fairs and festivals. Fossen says that one of the most rewarding aspects of Heart By Heart is meeting with fans, who are encouraged to bring Heart memorabilia to shows for the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers to sign afterwards. “We have people coming up to us after shows with tears in their eyes,” he said. “They thank us for bringing back memories of those days. Somar and I started singing these songs out a pure love for the material, and now that we've branched out and are touring around the country, it's really rewarding to talk to fans and hear their stories and memories.” For more click on the website! https://www.heartbyheart.com

What shall we talk about this week? Probably not really about this comic book. How about we talk about a specific organ that is explicitly talked about in this issue? Yes, I am talking about hair.....wait....no....that is not right......I am talking about the heart. But what heart are we talking about?  First of all, I will go ahead and give all credit to Wikipedia for what you are about to read. I am not that original. And I really do not want to be that creative. I think this is just more fun. Heart is an American rock band formed in 1973 in Seattle, Washington. The band evolved from previous projects led by founding members Roger Fisher (guitar) and Steve Fossen (bass guitar), including The Army (1967–1969), Hocus Pocus (1969–1970), and White Heart (1970–1973). Heart is a framework developed by Google to help the products and development teams to make decisions that serve business and user-centered. Heart is a framework for mobile design and metrics. It is an acronym that stands for happiness, engagement, adoption, retention and task success. Included by Gartner as a design approach that accommodates mobile interface issues such as partial user attention and interruption. Heart is a 1987 American sports drama film directed by James Lemmo (in his directorial debut), from a screenplay by Lemmo and Randy Jurgensen, who also produced the film. It stars Brad Davis, Jesse Doran, Steve Buscemi, Frank Adu, Sam Gray, Billy Costello, and Frances Fisher. A punch-drunk boxer is set up as an easy win for an up-and-coming young boxer in this melodrama. The highlight of the film is the performance of Steve Buscemi as the oily, mob-connected fight promoter Nicky. Eddie (Brad Davis) is the addle-brained boxer Nicky hangs out to dry for quick money. Heart of Midlothian Football Club, commonly known as Hearts, is a professional football club in Edinburgh, Scotland. The team competes in the Scottish Premiership, the top division of Scottish football. Hearts, the oldest and most successful football club in the Scottish capital, was formed in 1874, its name influenced by Walter Scott's novel The Heart of Midlothian. The club crest is based on the Heart of Midlothian mosaic on the city's Royal Mile; the team's colors are maroon and white. The Heart Nebula (also known as the Running dog nebula, IC 1805, Sharpless 2-190) is an emission nebula, 7500 light years away from Earth and located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. It was discovered by William Herschel on 3 November 1787. It displays glowing ionized hydrogen gas and darker dust lanes. "Heart" is a song by English synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys from their second studio album, Actually (1987). It was released as the album's fourth and final single on 21 March 1988 by Parlophone. The song topped the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in April 1988, becoming the duo's fourth and final chart-topper to date in the United Kingdom. Its music video was directed by Jack Bond and filmed in Yugoslavia. The group had initially written the song for Madonna, though they never asked her to record it, instead keeping it for themselves. Heart Peaks, originally known as the Heart Mountains, is a mountain massif in the Northern Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It is 90 km (56 mi) northwest of the small community of Telegraph Creek and just southwest of Callison Ranch. With a maximum elevation of 2,012 m (6,601 ft), it rises above the surrounding landscape on the Nahlin Plateau, which is part of the western Stikine Plateau. Heart Peaks has been an area of prospecting since the 1980s with the discovery of precious metals. The Heart is a 2014 realistic and medical fiction novel by the French author Maylis de Kerangal. It chronicles the events immediately following the death of 19-year-old Simon Limbres in a car accident. In particular, The Heart focuses on the transplantation of Simon's heart and how it affects those involved in the process, including Simon's parents, the physicians, the nurses, the organ transplant coordinators, the recipient, and the recipient's family, over the course of twenty-four hours.   Check out the pictures from this issue:  https://jeffandrickpresent.wordpress.com/2024/04/18/avengers-academy-33-what-the-heart-wants-part-2/   We also have some merchandise over at Redbubble. UU. Y platino en Canadá, obteniendo éxitos con la poderosa balada " More Than Words Can Say " (n. ° 1 en Canadá, n. ° 2 en EE. UU.), "Waiting for Love "(N. ° 13) y" Haunted Heart "(n. When I'm with You ". No pudimos difundir nuestra música. BMI otorgó a Freddy Curci y Steve DeMarchi el "premio Million-air" por "More Than Words Can Say".

Located at the foot of the Hoquiam River Bridge in Hoquiam, WA, it’s been there for birthday parties, private events, family fun and entertainment, business events, holiday parties, and when we were local teenagers, dances. Unless your momma wouldn’t let you go. Listen to this show and I’ll explain why this is more important than any 2020 political events, global warming and even the coronavirus. The previous five shows have been about my own experiences with friends I either grew up with or met along the way. And there are more of those shows to come, but for now, I’m going to share a story, a tragic story about a teenage girl that wants more than anything to slap on some makeup, a tight pair of jeans and go to the Saturday night dance at the Harborena. My old man's drunker than a barrel full of monkeys And my old lady she don't care My sister looks cute in her braces and boots A handful of grease in her hair Those are words by Bernie Taupin in Elton John’s Saturday Night’s Alright. Now don’t get me wrong, in no way am I comparing my song Momma Won’t Let You Go to anything Elton John. Both songs are about Saturday night madness but my song is based on not being allowed to go out on Saturday night. Momma says hell to the no. The innocent victim gets all dressed up in her 70s bell bottoms, checks herself in the mirror as she walks by, does her best Marilyn Monroe...and her momma won’t let her go. All dressed up and nowhere to go, That’s life’s worst buzz kill for a teen. You know your friends are going. You know there’s loud music and everything that’s good. I would stand in front of the band and try to absorb everything they were doing...especially the lead guitar player. It’s rare but sometimes I’ll run into a musician that played at the Harb. Steve Fossen, one of the cofounders of Heart played there. His recollection was “oh, that skating rink that was hard to find...kinda under a bridge.” There were the Lemon Pipers, Fragile Lime, Merrilee Rush...pretty much anyone with a 45 (that’s a single for you non-boomers). Throw in a teenage hormonal imbalance and yes, there were fights. So, maybe Momma had a point. Stick them on the makeshift stage that towers about one foot above the dance floor, turn it up to eleven and there ya go, A Saturday night in teenage paradise. Here’s my latest creation, Your Momma Won’t Let You Go. I think everyone had a Harborena. A place to go as a teenager to find out what the older kids had been talking about for all of those years when the best you could get away with was staying up after midnight watching super low budget monster movies. This was fun, and was in response to Alyson’s FB request to do a rock song. I just took a step into the time machine, into those 70s nostalgic Wonder Years.  Well that’s it for this week. Roger has played in every major city in North America many times. He has also toured Europe, Japan, Australia, Uzbekistan and Russia, and performed at massive events in the Czech Republic, Japan, Canada and the United States for more than 300,000 people at a single rock show. He has appeared on a multitude of television shows including Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, and television broadcasts for more than 60 million people in Europe. Songs featuring Roger’s songwriting and iconic guitar riffs have been used in numerous TV commercials, TV shows, Guitar Hero (3 songs), and in several movies, including Charlie’s Angels and Shrek 3. Other artists have covered his material, including Eminem. His timeless anthem guitar intro to Barracuda is frequently used as the lead in for America’s number one rated radio talk show, Rush Limbaugh. Tony Robbins refers to it as part of the turning point in his life. It was also controversially featured by Republican presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, John McCain and Sarah Palin in the 2008 election. The original line-up of Heart was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013. His new albums, All Told and Heart Of The Blues are the first of many new releases with brother Mike, aka Magic Man. The brothers are creating a massive multimedia endeavor, the One Vision Project. Michael Fisher Ever since the ’60’s, Mike has been involved in artist development, recording and producing, event production, and designing and building audio systems for touring groups, concerts, and large venues. He was one of the founders of Heart where he oversaw the business until his departure in about 1980. His roles included chief visionary, management, FOH sound engineer, and a producer of Heart. After leaving Heart Michael and his brother Roger built a recording studio and spent several years creating original music and recording other groups while also managing a series of performing bands featuring Roger and other notable musicians. Roger left with former Heart drummer Michael Derosier and bassist Steve Fossen to join a Canadian duo called Alias. Michael formed a sound company, Proshow USA which gave him an opportunity to work alongside some of the greatest entertainers of our time such as Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and other notables such as Bill Gates and presidents Bush and Clinton. His company has worked with many of the major artists in the music industry including providing sound production for Nirvana from their first theater shows continuing to their last show. More recently Proshow has focused on very large outdoor events around the country. Michael and Roger have committed to creating THE ONE VISION PROJECT, an ambitious endeavor that encompasses their life’s work, including an interactive web portal, four albums which draw from a catalog of more than a hundred songs, music videos, an autobiography and more. ALL TOLD was the first release to be followed by Heart Of The Blues, an album inspired by many wonderful trips to the deep south. Their band Human Tribe is performing on tour. The Brothers have created a brand, Human Tribe, and are promoting quality products that offer something beneficial such as their Human Tribe Tea and Heart Of The Blues whiskey. What you’ll learn about in this episode: Mike reads a chain of emails he shared with Ann Wilson with regards to being inducted into the Hall of Fame and getting the band back together for the ceremony Mike discusses some of the tensions and problems that took place around the induction ceremony and the issue of having other musicians play Barracuda rather than the original group Roger discusses the hurt feelings that were felt due to the induction and the tensions between original and later members of Heart, due to the later members not being considered a part of the induction Mike discusses feeling as though he should have been invited to sit at the band tables at the induction Roger discusses his former housekeeper Kelly Curtis’s involvement with the band during their touring days Roger talks about being voted out of the band, and he shares why he used that experience as a push to become a better musician Roger discusses struggling against feelings of entitlement after he was removed from the band, and he shares how it taught him humility and authenticity Roger shares when he realized that he was going to work toward becoming a rock musician through a clear vision he had at age 15 Roger talks about his One Vision project and its origins, and he shares the overarching themes of the four-volume masterwork Roger shares how he plotted out each of the four albums and how he carefully titled them to reflect their themes Mike shares how he got involved in the One Vision project, and he discusses how he recognized the story found in the common threads of Roger’s music Mike discusses Roger’s development of a “hangover tea”, the challenge of getting people to buy music, and the opportunities found in creating things that can be held Additional resources: Website: www.rogerfisher.com

It was a great pleasure to bring this interview with Steve Fossen to the Better Each Day listeners. He is a founding member and original bassist for Heart. His work on the albums “Dreamboat Annie,” “Little Queen,” “Magazine,” “Dog & Butterfly,” “Bebe le Strange,” as well as several greatest hits and compilations, has been a staple of radio since their releases, selling tens of millions of copies. In 2013, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honored the talents and contribution of the original six members of HEART: Ann and Nancy Wilson, Howard Leese, Roger Fisher, Steve Fossen and Michael Derosier. Steve and Mike are proving that they still have a lot of love left to give to the music world as they announce plans for their latest project – Heart By Heart. Driven to recreate the songs of HEART, while bringing the essence and purity of the group back to the stage, Heart By Heart was created to offer fans the unique experience that only those who were actually in the original band could offer. Steve Fossen, co-founder of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Heart. “With Mike and me at the helm, we can, once again, help bring out those musical nuances and ignite the energy within our own band that made HEART one of the most beloved rock groups of our time,” explained Fossen. In order to play the songs the way they were conceived, Fossen and Derosier surrounded themselves with musicians who shared their philosophy for excellence. Lead vocalist Somar Macek delivers a “jaw dropping performance” with her vocal range and stage presence. Fossen and Macek had been performing as a duo for years, often times naturally weaving their way into a HEART song as if being guided by a larger force. It was during their duo days, in fact, that Fossen actually started thinking about putting the band together. The name “Heart By Heart” came from Macek who said it signified their true feelings for one another. With the help of the legendary Randy Hansen on guitar and Seattle radio host Bob Rivers on keyboards, the band was off and running. But it wasn’t until the group was performing at a local show that they finally found what they were missing – Lizzy Daymont on guitar and vocals. “We were amazed with her musical talents and how well she knew the songs, one week later she joined us on stage as a member of Heart by Heart. In fact, when I heard Somar and Lizzy harmonize for the first time I had to hide my face because I thought I was going to cry,” said Fossen. Though not sisters they sing together as if they were. After the departure of Bob Rivers, Lizzy added keyboards to her duties, and 30-year veteran touring guitarist Chad Quist has joined in place of Randy Hansen. With the lineup complete, Heart By Heart’s mission is simple – to create music that is authentic, passionate, and true to HEART’s original recordings. After all, Fossen and Derosier, who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 as members of HEART, would never do the music any injustice. “When I first discovered Heart By Heart, I thought they were just a HEART tribute band – a really, really great HEART tribute band. I was excited to meet two rock legends – Steve and Mike – and to hear the band in person. What I wasn¹t prepared for was how amazing this band sounded,” said Tom Moon, of Starleigh Entertainment. “It wasn’t just that they are all world class players and singers, they are, but what astounded me most was the authenticity with which they played the material. Heart By Heart is way beyond a tribute band, their performance is a real and impactful musical experience, once you hear what they do, you cannot help but be won over.” Heart Wikipedia Heart By Heart Home Page
