Monique and Kevin break down the Jamal Bryant Target boycott controversy and the embarrassing backtrack that followed. They expose the long history of race hustling in the black community — where leaders weaponize grievances for personal gain instead of promoting real solutions. There is no system holding you back. It's your choices, your culture, and your priorities. Real flourishing comes from personal responsibility, not begging corporations or clinging to outdated victim narratives.
This week on BroTalk LIVE, we break down a packed lineup of major headlines and viral moments. We start with global politics as Trump pressures NATO allies over the Iran situation—and gets pushback, raising questions about U.S. influence and international relationships. On this week’s SoloPod, our host Angela Rye is joined by the Executive Director for the Congressional Black Caucus, Vincent Evans, to discuss the SAVE Act, and touch on the Target Boycott. Full Fannie Lou Hamer Clip: https://www.instagram.com/reels/DCGNnm7oqZF/ Presented by Republicans as a bill to protect against non-citizens voting, the SAVE Act would disenfranchise tens of millions of Americans of their right to vote by adding additional requirements to register, like providing a birth certificate. It’s a xenophobic reinterpretation of so-called “Voter ID” laws which conservatives have pushed for decades to reduce the voting power of mostly poor and minority communities. They believe that high voter turnout in elections benefits Democrats. The Senate is debating the SAVE act today, it’s already passed through the House. Mandatory Disclaimer: there is no evidence of non-citizens voting at a scale large enough to impact U.S. elections. Want to ask Angela a question? 3.13.2026 #RolandMartinUnfiltered: Target Boycott Not Over. SAVE Act Clash in Senate. Police Drag Black Woman From Car A year-long boycott of Target is ending--at least according to some national activist leaders--but local organizers say the protest is far from over. The co-founder of the National Target Boycott and civil rights attorney, Nekima Levy Armstrong, joins us next to clarify why this boycott isn't over yet. As the twice-impeached, criminally convicted felon-in-chief, Donald "The Con" Trump continues to push for the SAVE Act, millions could lose access to the ballot. We'll show an exchange on the Senate floor where Democratic Senator Dick Durbin tells Republican Senator John Cornyn why the SAVE Act is harmful. We've covered the political group led by Black MAGA member A.C. Cordoza for sending misleading mailers to Black voters in Virginia. Now, anonymous MAGA money is backing the campaign with a wave of those same mailers ahead of Virginia's April 21 vote. In a troubling incident, a black woman was forcibly removed from her car by a Texas police officer. Her name is Taneisha Thompson. We have the viral video and will be joined by Thompson and her attorney, Lee Merritt, for an exclusive interview on Roland Martin Unfiltered. And, I sat down with evangelical leader and author Jim Wallis to talk about his new book, The False White Gospel, and the rise of White Christian nationalism. Minnesota lawmakers were divided over a bill seeking to ban local governments from allowing ICE to use their jails for detention. The bill stalled in a House committee Wednesday on a tie vote. Some Republican legislators who voted no on the bill said many Minnesotans protesting ICE were not cooperative with law enforcement and defied federal law.Minnesota's leaders of the national Target boycott say the economic blackout of the retail giant continues. Local activist Nekima Levy Armstrong says the main demand — for Target to reinstate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, has not been met and so the boycott can not end.

Then Tracy Perlman joins the show - is it weirder to not have a ruler, or a flyswatter? Plus, should wives "obey" their husbands? 4pm: Jason talks with Nekima Levy Armstrong & Jaylani Hussein who started the Target boycott, which they say is definitely NOT over. And what's grinding people's gears this week? Find out on ENOUGH!!!
The Target boycott was supposed to “protect the Black community,” but the first people it harmed were Black-owned brands. In this episode, Von Lee breaks down the real consequences of the boycott, the brands that were dropped, the founders who begged the community not to boycott, and the financial realities nobody wanted to talk about. This isn't outrage. This is a strategy. And the truth is simple: corporations survive boycotts, Black brands don't. If we really want to build power, the movement has to shift from boycotting to BUY‑cotting. Walk in. Buy Black. That's how we change the numbers and the narrative.
When it comes to fighting those in power, one of the many tools we have is boycotting. Samantha and Anney shed some light on the effectiveness (or not) of recent boycotts against large companies.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Activists behind a national Target boycott claim the campaign has cut foot traffic at nearly 2,000 stores since January. The protest began after Target scaled back its diversity, equity and inclusion commitments pledged in 2020 after George Floyd's murder. Civil rights leaders, including the Rev. Retailers are now facing a lot of headwinds, including tariffs and a drop in consumer confidence. But for Target, once affectionately known by customers as Tar-jay, a consumer boycott in response to the company's decision to drop some DEI initiatives has been an added drag. In its most recent earnings call, the retailer reported a 3.8% drop in sales and lowered its earnings targets for the year. Consumers have long channeled their buying power to express political beliefs, whether it's selling their Teslas, avoiding a certain retailer, or goods from a particular country. We look at the power of the consumer boycott, and why this one seems to be working. Guests: Amanda Mull, columnist, Bloomberg; Wrote the column “Buying Power” on American consumerism. A 40-day boycott of Target is underway. It calls for supporters to give up shopping at the Minneapolis-based company during Lent. The boycott comes after Target announced that it would phase out a handful of diversity, iquity and inclusion, or DEI, initiatives. They followed several other corporations who made similar moves. But will the boycott make a dent on profit?Joining Minnesota Now to explain is Aaron Sackett. He's a marketing professor at the University of St. Thomas, with an expertise on consumer behavior.
Target's recent decision to roll back its DEI initiatives has sparked outrage and a nationwide boycott led by Pastor Jamal Bryant. But this isn't just about one company—it's about the broader accountability of corporations in supporting marginalized communities. In this deep dive, I break down what's happening, why it matters, and why Christians should take a stand. Tune in as we explore the power of faith-driven activism and what this means for the future of corporate responsibility.

Today, we are very excited to sit down with recently pardoned pro-lifer Bevelyn Williams to discuss her imprisonment and release. Bevelyn tells us about her arrest and subsequent trial and what her time in prison was like after her conviction. But glory to God, Bevelyn told us about how she was able to share the gospel with her fellow inmates while in prison and her experience reuniting with her husband and daughter. And is our Target boycott finally over as the company ends its DEI programs? But you won't believe which company doubled down on its own DEI policies.
