It's a quick little podcast but here is an update on the boys and how they're doing at the Tourism Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament!
It's Thursday afternoon and we're hitting you with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off what's left of your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On today's show, we looked at Evander Kane signing with the Oilers, two comeback wins, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast, we jumped in with a look at the news everyone is talking about after word broke that the Oilers had come to an agreement with the winger after the NHL announced that he'd face no further discipline for the alleged COVID violations. Seeing as he was cleared from being suspended and could join the Oilers as early as this weekend, we wondered where Kane will fit in the lineup now that he's in the mix. Changing gears, we spent a little bit of time looking back on the two huge wins that happened this past week as the Oilers were able to complete comebacks against both Calgary and Vancouver. From there we spent a couple of minutes talking about tonight's matchup with the Nashville Predators and how we all feel like this is an important game for the Oilers to win as they continue working on building some confidence. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold performers to recap what was a very busy week here in Edmonton.
A new week is here and that means the gang from the Real Life Podcast is back with a brand new episode to help you get through the rest of your Monday. On today's podcast, the guys looked at the NFL playoffs, the Battle of Alberta, the Metaverse, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Monday episode of Real Life, the boys got started with a look at the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament that's kicking off this weekend and how everyone is incredibly excited to get on the ice. With that excitement out of the way, Baggedmilk turned the conversation towards yesterday's Bills playoff loss as everyone was wondering how he handled such a crushing defeat. Getting to some good news, the guys then covered Saturday's Battle of Alberta win and spoke at length about how much everyone surrounding the Oilers needed that win. Even with that win, the guys on the podcast wondered if the Oilers still need to add more meat to their lineup to make sure they're not getting pushed around at all. From there, the podcast turned back towards the Metaverse and chatted about whether or not the guys would be interested in participating in events that weren't "real" even though they felt like it. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a story about how Jay managed to get the Oilersnation Instagram account back after two years in the dark.
It's Friday afternoon and the gang is all here with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off what's left of your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On today's show, we looked at the Oilers refusing to fire the coach, and a whole lot more. To kick things off, we jumped in with a delicious debate about how surprised we all are that the Oilers haven't made any changes behind the bench yet. Personally, I'm not at all surprised that Dave Tippett is still with the team regardless of the fact that he's lost his last 13 games, but that's more of a reflection on the organization than it is a reflection of my own desires. From there, we looked at the Oilers' goaltending situation and whether or not it's actually realistic that they're able to get anything done mid-season. Even if they can find a trade partner, is there any way to win a trade when you're dealing from a position of weakness? From there, we previewed the Battle of Alberta that's set for Saturday night and wondered if this is the exact matchup the Oilers need to get themselves fired up and ready to go. Over the last couple of seasons, the Battle of Alberta has been extra spicy and maybe getting into a game where emotions are running his is part of the solution? Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold performers to recap what was a very busy week here in Edmonton.
A new week is here and that means the gang from the Real Life Podcast is back with a brand new episode to help you get through the rest of your Monday. Today, the guys looked at the Oilers' continuous struggles, provided a Chicago Mix update, and a whole lot more. To kick off the episode of Real Life, the boys got started with a look at Saturday night's loss to the Ottawa Senators and how it was such a deflating loss, especially after carrying a two-goal lead into the third period. No matter how you slice it, everything that could go wrong has gone wrong lately, and with a very tough schedule coming up, the guys are trying to figure out what comes next. Needless to say, the vibes around here are anything but positive right now. Getting away from the Oilers, the guys dove into their Wordle strategies as the daily word game continues to take over the Internet right now. Is everyone playing? Do the guys have strategies? From there, the guys dove into a conversation from last Thursday's podcast about Chicago Mix after Real Life listener, Electronic Jordan, went to Costco and provided the kind of research that was desperately needed. As you'll hear, Electronic Jordan put in the work on this assignment and the results were truly incredible. Back to sports, the boys looked at a very busy NFL weekend as the playoffs kicked off and the bets were flying. Lastly, the guys wrapped up this week's podcast with a look ahead at the Winter Olympics as everyone on the podcast is looking for something to get excited about after a very tough month of Oilers fandom has started to drag them down.
It's Friday afternoon and we're here with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish what's left of your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On today's show, we looked at the Oilers' losing streak, what needs to change, game postponements, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast, we got started with a look at the Edmonton Oilers' latest struggles and how desperate they should be to make some changes. For a large segment of the fanbase, firing the head coach seems like the first thing that needs to be done but what about a trade? I asked the guys whether or not they think Holland should be pushing to make a trade right now even though teams aren't necessarily making moves right now. We also looked at the current losing streak and how that must be affecting the team mentally. Needless to say, the Oilers are gripping the stick so tightly that they're passing up chances to shoot in favour of a prettier play instead of getting greasy in the crease and looking for garbage goals. For all of us on the podcast, what was most obvious is that the Oilers are not as bad as they're playing right now but how they pull themselves out of this slump remains to be seen. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold performers to recap what was a very busy week here in Edmonton.
A new episode of The Real Life Podcast is here! Today on the show, the gang kicked things off by getting into a really deep discussion about the dreams they've been having recently, how often they remember their dreams, and what they could mean. It was definitely a weird way to start the pod. After that, Chalmers shared a new TV series that he's been hooked too and then finally, the group dug into the struggling Edmonton Oilers. Jay and Yaremchuk are FED UP with the way the team has been playing. They show little heart, their effort is inconsistent, and the results don't look like they're going to get better. Jay wants changes NOW! They also gave our their Trades Link hardest worker of the week award. To wrap things up, they looked back at 2021 and shared some of the favourite podcast memories that listeners shared over the last few days. They also looked ahead to a great memory that they're looking forward to making in early 2022 with Tourism Jasper! All of that and more in episode 342 of The Real Life Podcast! ENJOY!
It's Thursday afternoon and we're coming at you with an early episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish get through your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On this week's show, we looked at the Oilers' loss to St. Louis, the WJC cancellation, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast, we got started with a look at Oilers New Years' resolutions that we'd like to see the team carry into 2022. Whether it's shooting more, approaching the game with a pack mentality, shooting more, or anything in between, we offered our takes on what the Oilers should look to accomplish as we start a new year. From there, we look at last night's loss to the St. Louis Blues and how mistakes proved costly. Seeing as he made a couple of costly errors in his NHL debut, we also looked at Dmitri Samorukov's first game and whether or not it was fair that he was benched for the rest of the game after he was beaten twice for a pair of first period goals. That conversation led us into discussing Dave Tippett's future behind the bench and whether we're nearing the time when the team should be making a coaching change. Personally, I don't think we're all that close to having Tippett fired because that's not how Ken Holland rolls, but there is little doubt that the yearning for a new voice behind the bench is growing in Oil Country. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold performers to recap what was a very busy week here in Edmonton.
Another Thursday has landed on our calendars and the boys are back with a fresh Real Life Podcast to help you get into the Christmas break. Today, the boys talked about what happened on the Christmas break, the Oilers' return, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the podcast got started with a look at the Christmas break and what everyone got up to with a couple of well-deserved days off. From there, the guys looked back at the year 2021 and offered up some of the lessons they learned over the past 12 months and whether there were any positives to be pulled from what was another trying year. The guys also looked ahead at 2022 and offered up some New Years' resolutions for the Edmonton Oilers as work their way into a new calendar year. Sticking with the Oilers, the guys looked at what the team needs and whether or not there's any possibility of a trade happening in the coming weeks that sends a message to the squad that they need to be better. As the conversation progressed, however, it seemed like there isn't much hope among the boys that the current management group has the stones or the resources to pull off the moves that need to get done. Are the boys wrong? Only time will tell, but the Oilers are very quickly erasing all of the goodwill they built from themselves in the early portion of the season and that's a trend that desperately needs to change.
Another Thursday has landed on our calendars and the boys are back with a fresh Real Life Podcast to help you get into the Christmas break. Today, the boys were talking about Festivus grievances, the Jasper pond hockey tournament, betting on random Bowl games, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the podcast got started with a look at Festivus and that meant the boys had a chance to air their grievances and share their feats of strength. Seeing as COVID poked its ugly head into the Christmas season for the second straight year, there's no doubt that Omicron was high up on everyone's list of grievances. Seeing as the NHL may or may not actually be back for the 27th as planned, the lack of sports had some of the guys betting on games they wouldn't otherwise be interested in. The guys also talked about the Jasper pond hockey tournament that kicks off in late January and how the boys are pumped to get back into the tournament after a few years away. From there, the podcast fell off the rails a little bit as the guys discussed everything from stealing ice makers to holiday drinks and everything in between.
It's Wednesday afternoon and we're coming at you with an early episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish get through your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On this week's show, we looked at the NHL's shutdown, the Olympic dream dying, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast, we got started with a look at the Oilers' Christmas wishlist and specifically what we would give them if we had Santa's powers to make it happen. Whether it was depth scoring or goaltending or a COVID-free 2022, our list was as varied as you'd expect when it comes to needs for the Oilers and we hope to see some of those items checked off as we head into the new year. From there, we jumped into the NHL shutdown news and took a few guesses about how this situation is going to play out even when teams are expected to get back to work on December 27th. We also covered the news that the NHL would not be sending its players to China for the Olympics, which spawned a debate about whether or not the league should use this as an opportunity to bring back the World Cup of Hockey instead. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold performers to recap what was a very busy week here in Edmonton.
A brand new week has arrived on our calendars and that means the gang from the Real Life Podcast is back with a brand new episode to help you get through what's left of your week before the Christmas break. Today, the guys looked at the NHL schedule postponement, shows to watch with no hockey, and a whole lot more. To kick off the episode of Real Life, the boys got started with an update about the mouse situation at Wanye Manor in 2021 and how things have evolved over the last months since we last checked in. Somehow the mouse talk led to a conversation about the moon landing and how not everyone on the show is quite so certain that things went down the way we were told. Unsurprisingly, talking about moon landing conspiracy theories led the boys down a strange path of talking about TV shows to watch now that there's no hockey for the next week or so. From mountain climbing documentaries to survival shows and everything in between, this was about as random of a 20-minute segment as you'll get on the Real Life Podcast. Getting back to hockey, the guys wanted to talk a little bit about how the Oilers getting back in the win column with a pair of gutsy wins over the Blue Jackets and Kraken. Seeing as some key contributors were placed on COVID protocol over the last week, the boys wanted to close out the Monday episode with some props for the team as they desperately needed to get back in the win column.
It was a big week for The Nation Network and to break it all down, we got a very special guest appearance from our 'Business Dad' Chris LaBossiere! He and Jay broke down the news that The Nation Network has been sold and talked about what it means for the company, the podcast, and YOU the Nation Citizens. They also talked sports betting, memories of early Oilersnation, and more today on the pod!
Welcome back to The Suitcase & The Scribe with Mike McKenna and Scott Burnside! There was plenty to discuss on today's show, with the NHL now in full swing across North America. So much in swing that Canadian and US teams can now actually play against each other. One of the most surprising teams in the NHL is the undefeated Buffalo Sabres, who an ageless Craig Anderson is backstopping. Continuing in the surprise category, Mike and Scott dove into the Detroit Red Wings and how they are getting Tampa Bay vibes from the motor city. Of course, if you're talking about surprises, disappointments come with that too; and the number team on that list right now are the Montreal Canadiens. The Chicago Blackhawks joined the Canadiens on the list, which leads to how long will Marc-Andre Fleury call Chicago home? Finally, Mike let his feelings be known about the Evander Kane situation, and Scott expresses the bravery of the Hayes family to reveal the issues regarding Jimmy's passing. You can hear all of that and more on episode three of The Suitcase & The Scribe.
It's Friday afternoon and that can only mean one thing — a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On this week's show, we looked at some bold Oilers predictions, injuries to Yamamoto and Kassian, Ask the Idiots, and a whole lot more. To kick off the podcast, we got started with a big dreams conversation where we threw out some of our boldest takes and predictions for the upcoming season. Whether it was points predictions for Mike Smith or the Oilers having a powerplay that makes other teams cower in fear, we, along with a bunch of podcast listeners, broke down our pie-in-the-sky predictions for the 2021-22 NHL season. Next up, we looked at the pressure that's falling on Kailer Yamamoto's shoulders as some folks in Oil Country are a little bit down on the former 22nd overall pick after what was undoubtedly a tough season for him in 2021. Is it fair to lump pressure on such a young guy or is he in a spot in the lineup where it's fair to have heightened expectations? From there, we talked about Zack Kassian's unfortunate injury from last night's game after he hit his head on the ice following a fight with Vancouver's Zack McEwan. While there's no question that it was a scary incident that was ripe with bad luck, we wondered whether or not Kassian needs to fight as part of his game to be effective or if it's simply a part of who he is and how he got to the NHL in the first place. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots before winding down with the best and worst moments from the past seven days.
Another Thursday has arrived on our calendars and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode to help you get you through what's left of your week. Today, the boys were talking about the new podcast studio, Brendan Perlini, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with stories from their school days for some reason, which led down a strange road of grudges about parents giving their stuff away. That led to the boys chatting about the new recording studio and how only half of the cast members were told the podcast was being recorded at Nation HQ today. Somehow, the podcast studio talk caused Chalmers to complain about Connor McDavid's social media feed only featuring ads as opposed to what he's doing on a day-to-day basis. The guys also checked in on the latest round of NFL fan fights which cause Wanye, Jay, and Chalmers to reminisce about their fighting days and how Chalmers was apparently to blame for all of it. Lastly, we wrapped up the podcast with another round of construction tips with Chalmers to help everyone get ready for the coming winter.
The weekend may be over but that doesn't mean the fun has to end as the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help you get through what's left of your Monday. In today's episode, the guys looked at Facebook and Instagram being down, the NHL preseason, Joey Moss' locker room tribute, and a whole lot more. Kicking off the Monday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with a look at Facebook and Instagram being down and how the Internet is freaking out about the platforms being down. As much as we tend not to think about those platforms all that often apart from getting mad at relatives for their Farmville invites, there is nothing quite as entertaining as the reactions that spread around social media when one of the major platforms are is down. Moving over to the Oilers, the guys got into some preseason talk as the Oilers continue to make cuts and inch their way towards an opening night roster. As the preseason wears on, the lineups are starting to take shape and it seemed like the guys are starting to get a little bit more fired up about the start of a new year.
It's Friday afternoon and that can only mean that we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off your week and make sense of all things Edmonton Oilers. On this week's show, we talked about what's been happening in the preseason, fans being back at Rogers Place, Ask the Idiots, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast we jumped in with a look at the preseason and specifically our biggest takeaways from the preseason so far. Whether it's the first line developing chemistry to the depth we now have in the organization to Brendan Perlini shooting the lights out, there are a lot of interesting stories to watch as we progress through the tune-up season and we tried to get to everything that came to mind. Getting back to the first line, we spent some time talking about whether or not the McDavid-Hyman-Puljujarvi line could develop into one of the league's best. Changing gears, Duncan Keith made his preseason debut this morning and caused a few waves with his takes on vaccination so we tried to make sense of the quotes and whether we're all making a bigger deal of it than we should be. With the vaccine talk out of the way, we got back into the fun stuff as both Tyler and Rick were in attendance for Tuesday's game against the Kraken, and it was fun to hear them describe what it was like to be back at Rogers Place for the first time in nearly two years. The boys both talked about how great the atmosphere was at the arena and it got me excited about when I'll be able to go back and just having fans in the stands in general. Lastly, we wrapped up the podcast with a little bit of betting talk after our announcement earlier in the week that The Nation Network has teamed up with PointsBet Canada for a new partnership that will launch all kinds of new content for the upcoming season.
Another Thursday has landed on the calendar and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode of the show to help you get you through what's left of your week. Today, the boys were talking National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, fans being back at Rogers Place, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, the guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and why it's important to keep the conversation going beyond just this one day. Here at the Nation, the guys talked about how important it is for stories being posted online to take the time to learn about what happened in this county. Changing gears, the guys spoke at length about the preseason that's in full swing and whether or not we should be getting excited about how well the Oilers have done so far. From Zach Hyman finding a home on McDavid's wing to Lamborghini Perlini scoring goals en masse, the Kool-Aid was going down smooth as the guys had a hard time containing their excitement for the new season. Sticking with sports, the guys did another round of NFL bets ahead of the Thursday Night Football matchup between the Bengals and the Jaguars, which kicked off another round of chirps from the guys as they're all trying to muscle their way up the ladder as the podcast's best bettor.
The weekend may be over but that doesn't mean the fun has to end as the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help you get through what's left of your Monday. In today's episode, the guys covered the Oilers' pre-season win over the Flames, climbing the oil derrick, and welcomed John Scott to the podcast to discuss all things hockey and preview the NHL season. To kick off the Monday podcast, the guys got started with a look at the Ryder Cup and specifically how funny it was to see Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger pounding back a couple of beers on day one of the tournament. Speaking of beers, the Oilers are setting up the oil derrick in Ford Hall near the beer gardens which prompted the guys to wonder how long it will take before some drunk dude decides to climb that baby. Getting the show back on the rails, the guys welcomed former NHL tough guy and Dropping the Gloves host, John Scott, to the podcast to talk about everything from sore hips, broken hands, and what it's like to play men's league as a retired NHLer. Looking ahead at the upcoming season, the guys asked John what he expects as the league goes back to its full schedule for the first time since the pandemic started. He also gave the boys a breakdown on what it will be like for the Oilers to have a future Hall of Famer like Duncan Keith in the dressing room. As someone that played with Keith for a couple of years in Chicago, Scott gave his take on how valuable it will be to have a veteran presence like #2 in the room. He also got the boys fired up with his takes on the Oilers that were not overly inspiring but it was definitely fun to hear everyone get fired up about it anyway.
It's Friday afternoon and that can only mean that we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off your week and make sense of all things Edmonton Oilers. On this week's show, we talked about the latest news from training camp, the Josh Archibald conundrum, Ask the Idiots, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, we jumped in with a look at the Oilers roster and specifically who will be feeling the most pressure as we head into the 2021-22 season. Whether it's the goaltending or the defence or the forwards, there is a handful of guys that are likely feeling the heat to perform as we head into a new season, and it was interesting to hear everyone's takes on who has the most on their shoulders. From there, we looked at what's going on at training camp, including the absence of a few players for varying reasons from quarantines to lack of vaccination. Since we were talking about missing time, I asked the boys how big of a deal it is for a player like Duncan Keith to miss the first week of camp as he is still in quarantine after returning home from the States where he got the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Changing gears, how could I not spend a few minutes talking about Peter Chiarelli landing a new gig with the St. Louis Blues despite a horrific track record with the Edmonton Oilers when he was last employed. Does the NHL need a little more depth in their talent pool when it comes to management? Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and a look back on the ups and downs from the last seven days.
Another Thursday has landed on the calendar and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode of the show to help you get you through what's left of your week. Today, they're talking about new projects, podcast censorship, NFL betting, and a whole lot more. To kick things off, the podcast got started with a conversation about Jay's pitch call to ESPN about a potential new deal that the Network is working on for DailyFaceoff.com. From the legal talk to contracts with a massive company like Disney, it was interesting to hear Jay talk a little bit about what it's like for a deal like this to come together. From there, the guys started talking about all of the stuff that got bleeped out of Monday's podcast and the feedback that came in as a result. Did Tyler cut things out that needed to be cut to save the podcast? All unnecessary? Who's to say. Getting to the Oilers, the guys spoke a little bit about training camp, specifically the video that Ryan Rishaug posted that showed Connor McDavid blowing the doors off his teammates in a skating drill. Sticking with McDavid, the guys spent a few minutes talking about how the Oilers will be featured heavily on TNT in the USA this season and how it makes perfect sense to showcase the league's best player in an attempt to grow the game. Lastly, the guys wrapped up this week's podcast with a little bit of betting talk as week 3 of the NFL season kicks off tonight.
The weekend may be over but that doesn't mean the fun has to end as the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help you get through what's left of your Monday. In today's episode, the guys covered Tyler Yaremchuks's rise to stardom, tennis documentaries, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Monday podcast, the guys got started by busting Tyler Yaremchuk's balls after he spent a few days in Chicago hobnobbing with some of the NHL's elite last week with Frank Seravalli and the DailyFaceoff crew. From dinners with business daddy to a steak dinner with staff from ESPN to breaking news from Bill Daly, Yaremchuk's first week at full-time with the company was a ridiculous one and it was fun for everyone to hear him tell the story with a huge grin on his face. With Yaremchuk's tires adequately pumped, the podcast got derailed when Chalmers jumped in to talk about tennis documentaries that no one else had seen, but the good news is that it led into a conversation about the fight that broke out at the Cleveland Browns games this past weekend. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a little bit of hockey talk after Kailer Yamamoto finally signed his new deal over the weekend, prompting Wanye to ask whether Yamo is as good as we all hope he needs to be.
The weekend may be over but that doesn't mean the fun has to stop as the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help you get through what's left of your Monday. In today's episode, the guys covered glow golf, the Dansbury Trashers, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Monday podcast, the guys got started with a story about Jay's glow golf experience from this past weekend after a Real Life listener slid into his DMs to see if he'd be interested in entering a team. As you can imagine, golfing in the dark is a completely different animal from a normal round of golf and it was interesting to hear the guys give their takes on what it must be like to play in that environment. From there, the conversation changed gears and dove into the Netflix documentary Untold: Crime and Penalties that covered the Dansbury Trashers, and the boys couldn't contain their excitement about was undoubtedly an insane story. From the way the team was purchased to its unbelievable demise, the story of the Danbury Trashers is something every hockey fan should watch because it is a 90 journey that is endlessly entertaining. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday edition of the podcast with some sports betting talk after the NFL season kicked off, giving everyone a chance to recap their wins and confess to their losses.
It's Friday afternoon and that can only mean that we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off your week and make sense of all things Edmonton Oilers. On this week's show, we talked about the boys being back in town, celebrated Rod Phillips' 80th birthday, hypothetical scenarios, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast, we jumped in with a look at our favourite Edmonton Oilers moments when we were actually in attendance at either Rexall Place or Rogers Place or somewhere else altogether. Whether it was a playoff game or a pre-season matchup or our first NHL game we ever went to, we spent the first chunk of the podcast talking about some of our favourite moments we've ever been able to see in person and it was interesting to hear everyone's perspectives on what a 'best moment' meant to them. From there, we jumped back to the present and looked at many of the Oilers coming back to town to prepare for a new season and whether that gets us even more excited to go even though nothing is really happening right now. We also spent a few minutes celebrating Rod Phillip's 80th birthday by offering up our favourite Rod moments from the booth as he was undoubtedly one of the best to ever do it. Next up, we looked at the Calgary Flames' offseason and whether it will be enough to get them back into the playoffs after what was a very disappointing season in the all-Canadian Division.
Another Thursday has landed on the calendar and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode of the show to help you get you through, and this week, they're talking AirPods, Kool-Aid season in Oil Country, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, Baggedmilk and Tyler got the podcast going while the rest of the crew either bailed or had an impossible time trying to join the zoom call, making for a ridiculously disjointed open to the podcast. After finally making his way into the podcast, Jay explained why he's having an impossible time joining the zoom call and how that led him to buy a second pair of AirPods, potentially welching on a deal he made with Baggedmilk to sell him the old headphones if he found them. Are there shenanigans afoot? It looks that way. Getting into Oilers Kool-Aid season, the guys talked about some of the futures bets you can put down on the team right now, and whether or not they'd be willing to put their own money down on bets like McDavid for Hart, Oilers to win, Draisaitl for Hart, and a whole lot more. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a little bit of football talk as the NFL season kicks off tonight, prompting the boys to launch another round of football betting and prop picks.
It's Friday afternoon leading into the long weekend and that means we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you make sense of everything going on with the Oilers and around the NHL. On this week's show, we looked at the Yamamoto stalemate, NHL players heading to the Olympics, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast, we got started with a conversation about the 2022 Olympics after the NHL announced that its players would be attending the games after missing out in South Korea three years ago. That led us to talk about who we'd love to see playing with McDavid throughout the tournament, and since the options are almost endless for Team Canada, it was interesting to hear the boys give their takes. From there, we looked at the ongoing Kailer Yamamoto situation that's developing here in Edmonton and I asked the boys if they're feeling any stress about losing the former 22nd overall pick. Sticking with the Pacific Division, we looked at how the division may play out as there has been a lot of changes for every team over the last year without even mentioning the fact that a lot of these teams haven't played each other in a while. Next up, we looked at some of the details from the NHL's vaccination policy and how strict they're being with their unvaccinated players, leaving them next to no freedom to move freely. Lastly, we finished up this week's podcast with a look at some of Connor McDavid's quotes from a quick interview he did with the NHL this past week, expressing how excited he is to get going while also giving some love to the new additions to the team.
Another Thursday is upon us and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode of the show, and this week, they're talking Donda, Netflix docs, and a whole lot more. The entire Real Life crew was back for the Thursday episode of the podcast, and the boys got started with a conversation about Yaremchuk's vacation and how he missed all of the Oilersnation Open recaps on both Real Life and Oilersnation Radio. Despite trying to talk golf, the guys turned the conversation towards Donda, the Kanye West album that everyone has been waiting for over the past couple of months and offered up a full breakdown on the 27-track banger. Moving over to the NFL, the guys discussed the situation going on with the New England Patriots after Cam Newton got cut in favour of Mac Jones, a surprising move for many football fans but not necessarily for anyone that's followed Bill Belichick for any length of time. Sticking with sports, the guys discussed an upcoming Netflix documentary that will break down the world of golf in a brand new way and it had everyone excited about it. Lastly, the guys wrapped up this week's podcast with a look at the offer sheet shenanigans going on between the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes. Is this type of predatory (read: entertaining) play good for the league? It's been a quiet week around these parts but that doesn't mean we didn't have enough to come up with a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help get you through what's left of your week while also make sense of everything going on with the Oilers and around the NHL. On this week's show, we looked at ads going on NHL jerseys, McDavid points predictions, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, we jumped in with a conversation about ads being placed on jerseys for the start of the 2022-23 NHL season and whether or not anyone was surprised that the NHL decided to make some of the easiest money they possibly could. From there, we looked at one of the more evil Would You Rather questions that I've ever seen as it related to the Oilers potentially winning the Stanley Cup and losing a superstar to make it happen. We also discussed Auston Matthews being on the cover of NHL 22, making it the second time the Leafs sniper has made the cover and offering up another reason to piss off hockey fans from every other fanbase. Then to wrap up this week's podcast, we brought back Ask the Idiots for a round of rapid-fire questions where I asked everyone on the podcast a series of hockey questions and they had to give their hottest takes on whatever topic came into my brain.
The calendar says it's Thursday and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode of the show, and this week, they're talking badass dream jobs, future Wanye voicemail messages, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with a conversation about jobs they think are badass after both Baggedmilk and Chalmers saw a fighter jet cruising around the west end. From there, the guys finally got to the Future Wanye voicemail messages after finding out that real Wanye wouldn't be on this week's show, leaving the three boys to try and figure out how the hell the mystery message nailed his impression. Seeing as this was the first time Tyler has played voicemails in a little while, the conversation turned to whether or not the podcast needs more static segments or if it's better to fly by the seat of our pants. Getting away from the structure almost immediately, the guys spent a few minutes recapping what's been going on in the Big Brother house as the season has finally started to get interested. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode with a look at ads being placed on NHL jerseys for the start of the 2022-23 season and whether or not the outrage we're seeing from some folks on social media is justified or not.
The weekend may be over but the good news is that the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help you get your week started and to make some sense of the world around us. In today's episode, the guys looked at pickleball, movie theatres, Donda, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys jumped in with a chat about Thursday's interview with Andy Sutton and how the guys thought that that podcast deserved more love. Somehow, talking about Andy Sutton turned the conversation to Pickle Ball after Jay noticed that Glen Anderson was in Red Deer for a major tournament this past weekend. As you may have expected, just hearing the term pickleball was enough for the guys to challenge each other to a game with Jay and Chalmers hoping to even the playing field against Baggedmilk and Tyler. Changing gears, the guys got into what it would take to get them back into a movie theatre as most of the boys haven't gone to watch a movie since the pandemic started. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a look at Donda, the unreleased Kanye West album that the entire world has been waiting for, and whether or not this thing is actually going to come out.
It's been a surprisingly busy week in Oil Country and that means we're back with a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help get you through what's left of your week while also make sense of everything going on with the Oilers and around the NHL. On this week's show, we looked at Kailer Yamamoto's next contract, the defensive group, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast, we got started with a look at Kailer Yamamoto's next contract as he is one of the few remaining players that has yet to be re-signed. Considering Yamo didn't have the best season in 2021, we wondered what a fair deal would look like for the former 22nd overall pick, and whether or not the Oilers will try to add some term to this contract to keep him as a cheaper option. From there, we looked at Tyler Benson's place with the team and whether or not he has the skillset to crack the roster even if it means playing somewhere lower in the lineup. Would it even make sense for Benson to play on the fourth line? Sticking with some of the housekeeping the Oilers got done this week, we dove into Slater Koekkoek's two-year deal that got signed this past week and whether or not it was crazy for the Oilers to give the guy a second year even though he'll probably get lapped on the depth chart before the contract is over. With a fresh one-year contract in his pocket, we looked at where Brandon Perlini fits into the lineup as he tries to get back into the NHL after spending the last year in the Swiss league.
The boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode of the show, and this week, they're welcoming a former Edmonton Oiler, Andy Sutton, into the mix to talk about his career and what he's up to in retirement. Kicking things off, the podcast got started with a preview of Andy Sutton's NHL career and how he was such an imposing force on the ice when he played. First up, the guys asked Andy to walk through his come up to the NHL, and if you hadn't heard the story before, it was incredible to hear how his work ethic and mindset basically carried him to hockey's top league. From the way he broke into the league to the way he put his body to the test on a nightly basis, it was fascinating to listen to Sutton tell stories from his career with so much openness and passion. After his career wrapped up, Sutton knew he wanted to stick within the hockey space and that's what drove him to get into the gear game. Driven by his passion for the sport, customer service, and product innovation, Sutton is now making major moves with Verbero hockey as he looks to transform the way we buy and market hockey equipment and apparel. Needless to say, this was a fascinating interview with an extremely interesting individual and you'll definitely want to give it a listen.
The weekend may be over but the fun is far from over as the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help get your week started and to make sense of the world around us. In today's episode, the guys covered Jay's trip to Nashville, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys got started with a recap of Jay's trip to Nashville and what it means for the Nation Network moving forward. From high-level meetings with a powerful mentor to the food tour he powered through and what it potentially means for citizens that will be joining us on an upcoming Nation Vacation. From there, the conversation turned towards the Oilersnation Open and how excited everyone is to get together and hit the links at Cougar Creek for the first tourney in two years. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of the podcast with a discussion about Dogpatch that is set to open up soon, so the guys walked through the history of Nation HQ offices they've worked at before eventually landing in their new digs later on this summer.
It's been another busy week around here and that means we're back with a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help get you through what's left of your day while also make sense of everything going on with the Oilers and around the NHL. On this week's show, we looked at Darnell Nurse's contract extension, goaltending, and a whole lot more. To kick off today's podcast, we jumped in with a look at the Oilers' goaltending situation leading into 2021-22 and whether or not we'll the exact same duo for the third tour of duty or if Ken Holland will make a move to bolster the pairing. Does Alex Stalock factor into the equation? What about Ilya Konovalov? From there, we got into the Darnell Nurse eight-year contract extension that carries a $9.25 million cap hit and tried to break down why it's actually a reasonable deal for the Edmonton Oilers. We also spoke about Warren Foegele's three-year contract extension and how much all four of us are excited to see what he brings to the lineup in his first season with the Oilers. While we can still be upset about the Bear trade, I think a lot of us have started to turn the page and focus more on what Foegele will bring in instead. We also looked at some way too early line combinations after Bob Stauffer mused on his show that we could see McDavid and Draisaitl playing together 30-40% of the time, which, as expected, annoyed Oilers fans to no end.
The long weekend may be behind us but the fun is far from over as the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help get your week started and to make sense of the world around us. In today's episode, the guys covered everything Tyler missed on his vacation, Oilers talk, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's episode, the guys got started with a look at everything Tyler missed while he was on vacation, including making him listen to plenty of praise for his temporary replacement. With plenty of Oilers news that happened while he was away, Tyler was anxious to break down the Oilers roster and take a few swings about what's still to come before the 2021-22 season begins. Somehow, the Oilers talk led Jay and Wanye to talk about the time they went to Dubai and went skiing inside of a shopping mall. Did you read that right? Yes. From there, the podcast fell off the rails a little bit as the guys covered a range of topics from golf, to the Oilersnation Open, to a little bit of Big Brother talk to wrap things up.
Thursday means that your workweek is winding down and that the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode of the show to get you set for the weekend and break down the week that was. In today's episode, the guys covered Adam Larsson jumping ship, Frank Seravalli taking over Twitter, space talk, and a whole lot more. Kicking off the podcast, the guys started the podcast with a conversation about soccer as new Tyler (Liam) was sitting in since Yaremchuk decided the best time for a vacay was the business week in NHL news. Despite knowing nothing about soccer... err... football, the guys did their best to engage in the topic even though they could tell Liam thought they were idiots. Changing gears, the conversation turned to Jeff Bezos' space trip from a few days ago and tried to figure out what retail space travel will mean for human beings going forward. Next up, how could the guys not spend a few minutes talking about how Frank Seravalli broke Hockey Twitter yesterday with all of the breaking news he dropped about the Seattle expansion draft. Lastly, the podcast wrapped up by looking at the Edmonton Oilers and what they'll do next after they lost Adam Larsson to the Kraken and seem to have had their plans derailed a little bit.
The weekend may be over but the fun is far from over as the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help get you going and to make sense of the world around us. This week, the guys covered the Oilersnation Open, new podcast intros, listener voicemails, and a whole lot more. Kicking off the podcast, the guys started the podcast with some quick golf talk as we draw ever closer to the Oilersnation Open. As the podcast started, the high bid to golf with the boys is $600 for a lucky duo that will join Jay, Chalmers, and Yaremchuk for a round at Cougar Creek. From there, Tyler showed off the brand new podcast intros that he's been sitting on, and once again, Baggedmilk was not in them. Disrespect? Direct shot? Only Tyler knows for sure. Getting back to hockey, the guys took some questions from Twitter about what's to come with the Oilers only to have the conversation fall off the rails almost immediately. Lastly, the guys wrapped the podcast with their first Big Brother segment of the year as everyone's favourite summer show has finally gotten underway.
It's been a busy week here in Oil Country and we're back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to make sense of everything that's happened here in Edmonton and around the NHL over the last seven days. On this week's show, we looked at the Duncan Keith trade, discussed some of the rumours surrounding the team right now, previewed the expansion draft, and a whole lot more. Kicking off the podcast, we got started with a conversation about the Duncan Keith trade that happened earlier this week and whether or not the Oilers will be able to have their newest defender cover the bet made to acquire him. If you look at Keith's analytics then you're probably going to be upset about the trade. If you're buying into the intangibles that he can bring to the locker room then you're probably pretty excited. Who is right? It's impossible to get the answer to that question until the new season starts, but I'd imagine that we're going to be arguing about this deal for the next two months anyway. From there, we looked at Zach Hyman being a player that Ken Holland has been rumoured to be interested in as a free agent and we tried to figure out whether or not the speculated numbers that are circulating would make for a good deal. Can you go long term on a guy with injury issues and coming off one of his better NHL seasons? We also looked at Gabriel Landeskog out of Colorado as a potential option the Oilers should be chasing, though, to a man, we all expect that he'll be back in Colorado when all is said and done.
Thursday means that your workweek is winding down and that the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode of the show to get you set for the weekend and break down the week that was. In today's episode, the guys covered the Oilers rumours, disc golf, the Oilersnation Open, and a whole lot more. Kicking things off, the guys got the podcast started with a recap of the Nation Real Life Disc Golf Championship that took place this past Tuesday after the guys finally got out to Rundle Park to get a round under their belts. From the moment the guys arrived at Rundle to the minute they wrapped, the guys had nothing but good things to say about the sport they had never played before this even though it humbled them greatly with their lack of skill. Sticking with the links, the conversation turned to the upcoming Oilersnation Open that is set for August 26th and how you have the opportunity to bid to golf with the Real Life crew. Changing gears, Wanye then told a story of how his new neighbours saw him naked this past week, and the guys tried to figure out whether that's a good or bad first impression to have. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with some betting talk as The Open kicked off this weekend at Royal St. Georges Golf Course.
The weekend may be over, but the good news is that the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help get you going and to make sense of the world around us. This week, the guys covered the Duncan Keith trade, Baggedmilk's gift to Jay, listener voicemails, and a whole lot more. To kick things off, the guys got started with a conversation about the Duncan Keith trade that just broke right before the podcast started and tried to make sense of why this deal had to happen now. Surprisingly, the boys on the podcast were split on the trade even though many Oilers fans were completely shocked that Holland decided to pull the trigger on the deal that's been talked about for weeks now. Unsurprisingly, no one was able to find middle ground on the trade but instead decided to leave things for a bit and see was else Holland does this offseason. From there, the conversation turned to Big Brother, which is the boys' favourite summer pastime, but unfortunately, not everyone was caught up yet but the excitement was still real. Lastly, the guys wrapped up this week's podcast with another look at the answering machine, as the listeners of the podcast flooded the boys with messages ranging from SlamBall talk to Disc Golf.
Thursday means that your workweek is winding down and that the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode of the show to get you set for the weekend and break down the week that was. In today's episode, the guys discussed Tampa's Cup win, Kucherov's post-game interview, and a whole lot more. Kicking things off, the guys got the podcast started with Yaremchuk telling the story of a Wednesday wedding he attended and why he's so hungover on a Thursday. Who has a wedding on a Wednesday? It's a fair question, but that's the situation the guys started the show in. Steering the show back to the NHL, the guys talked about Nikita Kucherov's post-game interview after the star forward that left a wake of bodies behind him as it seemed like no one was safe from his ire. Changing gears, the guys then made their pitch for why you should sign up for the 2021 Oilersnation Open golf tournament that's coming up in late August, especially since we always have such an amazing time. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a quick preview of what's to come over the following weeks as we prepare to enter what will surely be a very busy offseason for the Oilers and NHL as a whole.
The long weekend may be over, but the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help get you going and to make sense of the world around us. This week, the guys covered the Nugent-Hopkins extension, Duncan Keith, listener voicemails, and a whole lot more. To kick things off, the guys got started with a conversation about Ryan Nugent-Hopkins re-signing for eight years since we didn't have a second podcast last week because of the holiday. From the love Baggedmilk got on Twitter after the announcement to the way 'Keep Nuge Forever' took on a life of its own over the last 10 years, having RNH stick with the team that drafted him was an exciting moment for the Nation. Somehow, talking about Nuge led the guys to talk about SlamBall for a few minutes after Chalmers rediscovered the sport recently, prompting the guys to wonder whether or not the sport could ever make a comeback. The guys also discussed the rumors that Duncan Keith could be coming to Edmonton after it was revealed that the veteran defender wants to be closer to his family in Penticton. Would it make sense for the Oilers to give up assets for a guy that's on the decline? Lastly, we wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life by emptying the answering machine and taking listener questions.
The weekend is nearly here and that means we're back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to make sense of everything that's happened here in Edmonton and around the NHL over the last seven days. On this week's show, we looked at the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins contract extension, McDavid adds to his trophy case, and a whole lot more. Kicking off the podcast, we jumped in with a look at the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins contract extension and what it meant for both the organization and the fanbase. From the term to the dollars to where he slots in the lineup, we broke down every aspect of this new contract while also looking at some of the reactions that came out of the fanbase after the news broke. We also talked about what it means to have Nugent-Hopkins commit to the Oilers when so many free agents before him did not follow suit. From there, we spoke a little bit about the expansion draft and what the Oilers might be able to do with the open spaces they have on their protection list. Would it make sense to look at a team like the Bruins that may need help with their expansion list? What about the New York Islanders? We also touched on Connor McDavid adding to his trophy case after winning both the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award last night, sweeping the awards for the league's best player handily. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with a look at Oscar Klefbom's future after Ken Holland announced that he would be talking to the injured defender in the coming days as he makes his final preparations for the Seattle expansion draft.
It's a spicy weather week here in the capital city, but the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help get you going and to make sense of the world around us. This week, the guys covered the Edmonton heatwave, disc golf, forgotten languages, and a whole lot more. To kick things off, the boys started with a quick conversation about how ridiculously hot it is in Edmonton this week, and how everybody is handling the heatwave so far. From throwing wet towels in the freezer to sleeping in front of the air conditioner to complaining about Slurpee flavours again, the boys offered their best advice on what to do to stay cool over the upcoming week. From there, the conversation turned to disc golf again as it's becoming apparent that the sport is taking over the world after a clip from this past weekend went viral. Needless to say, the guys feel like they're getting into the sport on the ground level, and the fact that it's been months since they've started talking about it and not one disc has been thrown is hugely problematic. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday podcast by emptying out the answering machine and playing the voicemails you've all left over the past couple of weeks.
The weekend is nearly here and that means we're back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to make sense of everything that's happened here in Edmonton and around the NHL over the last seven days. On this week's show, we looked at the Habs run to the finals, Oscar Klefbom's future, Mark Messier going to ESPN, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, we got started with a look at the Montreal Canadiens and whether or not there is anything to be learned from their miracle run to the Stanley Cup Finals. From their depth throughout the lineup to Carey Price's brilliance to the way all four of their lines were finding ways to contribute, the Habs got the most out of their roster because they had the depth to compete even when their best players weren't on the ice. Somehow that conversation about Montreal led us to talk about baseball for five minutes after several pitchers have stripped their clothes off during the past week as a result of the new rule where managers can check for stick stuff whenever they want. Getting back to hockey, we started in on yet another conversation about how terrible NHL referees have been lately, and whether or not there's going to be any change with the officiating moving forward. Next up, we ran through a bunch of Oilers housekeeping items that happened this past week before wrapping up the podcast with another edition of Hot and Cold performers.
Thursday means that your workweek is winding down and that the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode of the show to get you set for the weekend. On today's podcast, the guys welcomed Frank Seravalli back to the podcast to talk about yesterday's announcement, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys got started with a quick conversation about yesterday's announcement that Frank Seravalli would be joining the Network after walking away from TSN shortly before the playoffs started. Based on the reaction from yesterday's announcement, a lot of people were clearly surprised that DailyFaceoff was able to land the biggest fish in the media free agent pool. Speaking of Frank, the man himself then joined the podcast to talk a little bit about this new partnership and what it meant to him to make a change and head into the digital space. From there, the guys asked Frank for his take on varying hockey subjects ranging from the best arenas to free agency to what to expect from this year's expansion draft. Needless to say, it was a lot of fun to have one of the NHL's elite insiders on the podcast to offer his thoughts and play along with the guys on what was yet another very fun episode.
A new week has landed and that means the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast recorded to help make sense of the world around us. This week, the guys covered how they spent their Father's Day, learning to drive, creating a better vibe at Rogers Place, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Monday episode of the Real Life podcast, the show got started with a look at Father's Day and how everyone spent the day. From Wanye getting a framed picture of Lil Wanye to Baggedmilk commenting on his dad's retirement gear to Yaremchuk holding hands with his old man, the guys spent a few minutes talking about their dads and what it was like to spend the day together. From there, the conversation turned to the history of NationGear as Tyler asked Wanye, Baggedmilk, and Jay about their favourite gear designs from throughout the years, and how the clothing line has evolved over the years. Getting back to the Oilers, the conversation turned to the dressing room as the boys tried to guess which Oilers would be the best future broadcasters when their NHL careers are over. Would it be Draisaitl? Mike Smith? Someone else? Next up, the guys emptied the answering machine as Nation Citizens have been having a lot of fun leaving messages for the show. Looking ahead at next season, Tyler wanted to know what everyone thought the Oilers could do to try and bolster the atmosphere at Rogers Place, especially after we're seeing how much fun Islanders and Golden Knights fans are having at their games right now.
The weekend is fast approaching and that means we're back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to make sense of everything that's happened here in Edmonton and around the NHL over the last seven days. On this week's show, we're looking at the upcoming expansion draft, our biggest offseason questions, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, we jumped in with a conversation about our biggest offseason questions leading into the summer and whether or not we think Ken Holland will be able to answer them. Is it goaltending? Is it the ability to find some scoring wingers to bolster the offence? Are we comfortable with the same defensive group coming back? From there, we looked at the upcoming expansion draft and had a conversation about whether or not the GMs around the league have learned anything from the last time around. From there, we touched quickly on a couple of rumours surrounding the Edmonton Oilers these days, specifically RNH's negotiations seemingly moving forward and a quote from Tom Gazolla that suggested Taylor Hall may be open for a reunion. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast by resurrecting an old segment from North x NorthGretz called Ask the Idiots where we all took turns answering the questions you folks submitted over the past week.
Thursday means that your workweek is winding down and that the boys from the Real Life Podcast have a new episode in the books and ready for your ear holes. On today's podcast, the guys covered the new Nation HQ, disc golf, our new answering machine, current events, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys got started with Tyler Yaremchuk's confession that he broke into the new Nation HQ building and wandered around for a little personal tour despite the fact that it's not yet opened. From the pub (Dogpatch) to the bakery (Bread + Butter) to the new recording studio, Tyer had plenty of good things to say about the new office and what's to come. Changing gears, the guys got back into their disc golf dreams after Chalmers got an email from Eric Moon, a loyal Real Life listener and avid disc chucker. Will this email be the first step to actually getting out and rattling the chains? Sticking with summer sports, Baggedmilk asked the guys for some help with his pursuit of new golf clubs now that he's decided he wants to get out of his house after a year and a half indoors. Lastly, the guys wrapped up this week's podcast by launching a new segment called Current Events with Chalmers that may or may not happen on a weekly basis.
A new week has landed and that means the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast recorded to help make sense of the world around us. This week, the guys covered even more food talk, TikTok trends, Brazilian statues, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Monday episode of the Real Life podcast, the guys started the podcast in the most random way imaginable after Baggedmilk posted on Twitter that he tried the TikTok trend of eating watermelon with mustard on it. Somehow, that kicked off a chat about TikTok stars fighting each other and how Chalmers apparently knows more about the social platform than he cares to admit. Steering the show back to the Oilers, the guys reminisced about Fernando Pisani's OT goal from 15 years ago as he closed out Game 5 in the most dramatic fashion. Somehow the Oilers talk led the guys into a conversation about Brazil and how the city of Encantado is building a bigger statue of Jesus than the original that's in Rio de Janeiro. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a little bit of betting talk after Jay made some coin betting on the Islanders to beat the Bruins and has decided they will be his team for the rest of the playoffs.
The weekend is almost here and that means we're back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to make sense of everything that's happened here in Edmonton and around the NHL over the last seven days. On this week's show, we're looking at cheering for Canada's team, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's episode, we jumped in with a look at the final four in the NHL playoffs and gave our takes on who we think would be the ideal Stanley Cup Final. Vegas vs Tampa? Can Montreal keep their Cinderella run going? Will the Islanders be able to suffocate the Lightning the way they did with the Bruins? Speaking of the Montreal Canadiens, we also had a discussion about whether or not it makes sense to cheer for the Habs because they're the last team from north of the border. Next up, we looked at the NHL Award nominations that came out this week and whether or not there were any Oilers that got snubbed by not get a nod. Sticking with the Oilers, we looked at the hilarious reaction that happened amongst the fanbase after Devin Shore signed a two-year contract extension. Lastly, we we wrapped up this week's podcast by looking at some of the players the Oilers have already lost to Europe and whether or not we think any of the other free agents will end up following suit.
Another Thursday has landed on the calendar and that means a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast is here and ready to get you set for the weekend. On today's show, the guys covered their new intro, Chalmers coaching baseball, spoke to Trent Wilhauk from Wilhauk Beef Jerky, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys jumped in with a chat about the podcast intro that Tyler is working on and how Wanye demands a Soulja Boy cameo to be included. From there, the guys talked a little bit about the Edmonton Oilers, specifically the reaction that came out last night when the Oilers re-signed Devin Shore to a two-year contract. If there's one thing we all know about Oilers, it's that the fanbase is unbelievably passionate about the team and even a depth signing like Shore can kick off a firestorm. From there, the guys welcomed Trent Wilhauk from Wilhauk Beef Jerky to the podcast to talk about his passion for jerky as well how it came to be that he is now an owner of the Olds Grizzlys. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the podcast with what turned out to be another passionate food talk that waded into the waters of the best road trip snacks as well as where to find the best Slurpees in the city.
After what we hope was a fantastic weekend for all of you, the boys are back with a brand new episode of the Real Life podcast to get your week started. On today's show, the guys covered the Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul fight, checked in on what's going on with the new studio, disc golf, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys got started with a look back at the Logan Paul vs Floyd Mayweather fight that basically everyone was talking about for the last few weeks. Despite being a fake fight, it was incredible to see how much hype was built up around their beef regardless of the fact that it was all theatre made up by the fighters to get the people going. From there, the conversation turned to who we would all want to fight in the local media landscape regardless of whether or not there is any beef there. Next up, the guys spent some time talking about the new recording studio that is scheduled to open later this summer, and whether or not it may make sense to switch up the recording times for the show when everyone is able to get back together again. Lastly, the podcast wrapped up with a little bit of Oilers talk despite Chalmers hating that we're bringing up hockey during the offseason or at any other time really.
Happy Friday, everybody! With the offseason upon us and plenty of work to do to improve the roster, we're back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to get you set for the weekend and make sense of everything that's happened over the last seven days. On this week's show, we're looking at the offseason wishlist, buyouts, the NHL playoffs, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's episode, we got started with a look at which player would be the number one realistic target on our wishlist if we could make anything happen. Somehow this conversation turned into a wild argument as none of us could agree on who the Oilers should chase or even what position could use an upgrade. Needless to say, the Giant Question of the week got a little bit spicier than any of us would have expected as some very clear lines in the sand were drawn. Do we have to overspend for free agents? Trades? Despite the defence playing reasonably well in the playoffs is there room for improvement? Next up, we checked in on the Mark Scheifele situation in Winnipeg and whether or not his hit on Jake Evans was as bad as many folks thought and if the four-game suspension was merited. We also looked at the series between the Habs and Jets and expressed our surprise and bewilderment that there are actually penalties being called when that was not at all the case in round one. Finally, we wrapped off this week's show with an extended version of Hot and Cold performers as none of us could really keep things on the rails for more than a few seconds.
Another Thursday is upon us and that means a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast is here and ready to get you set for the weekend. On today’s show, the guys were pumped to welcome former Edmonton Oiler enforcer, Luke Gazdic, to the podcast to learn about his journey in hockey and what comes next after recently announcing his retirement. Kicking things off, the guys got started with a look at the last few days in the NHL that were jampacked with all different kinds of storylines. From the Maple Leafs getting knocked out by Montreal after dropping three straight to Mark Scheifele's hit in game one of their series, the guys offered their thoughts on all things NHL. Next up, the guys were thrilled to welcome former Oiler, Luke Gazdic, to talk about his career, recent retirement, and learn a little bit about his journey to professional hockey. From start to finish, this interview was fantastic to listen to as Luke ran through his come-up, what it was like to play in front of a full barn at Rexall Place, how much it meant for him that the fanbase had his back, and what it was like to hang out with Joey Moss. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life by taking a few guesses as to which NHLers we think are the ones Gazdic mentioned in his equipment story, which was still blowing everyone's minds long after he got off the Zoom call.
A week removed from the disappointing playoff sweep at the hands of the Jets, the boys are back with a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast to help make sense of what's to come for our beloved Edmonton Oilers. This week, the guys covered Game 7 between the Habs and Leafs, baseball, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys jumped in with a quick discussion about Game 7 in the series between the Canadiens and Leafs, specifically how everyone on the podcast is pulling for Montreal to complete the comeback. Needless to say, the chaos of a Toronto loss would be so much fun to watch because of what the reaction would look like amongst Leafs nation. From there, Chalmers offered up one of his classic rants about Ryan Reaves getting tossed from game one in the Vegas/Colorado series, and whether or not he knew what was going on during the melee. Next up, the conversation turned to baseball after Baggedmilk decided that he is now a big Jays guy after the Oilers were so rudely swept out of the playoffs. Somehow, that conversation about baseball turned into a walk down memory lane after the Friends reunion got massive numbers on HBO after being launched last week. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the podcast by quickly trying to catch up with Tyler's prep list to see if they could touch on all of the items he had written down for today's episode.
Happy Friday, everybody! After taking a couple of days to calm down after getting swept by the Winnipeg Jets, we're back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to get you set for the weekend and make sense of everything that’s happened over the last few days. On this week’s show, we looked back at what the Oilers need this offseason, break down Ken Holland's press conference, looked around the NHL, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's episode, we got started with a look at what the Oilers' biggest need is as we enter the offseason and whether or not they'll be able to get it done. Be it another scoring winger that can play in the top-six or another goaltender or some more defensive depth, this is going to be a massive offseason for Holland and it's going to be endlessly interesting to see how he handles the pressure. From there, we looked at Ken Holland's press conference and tried to decode some of the stories and analogies he put out there, specifically if any of the old war stories from Detroit have anything to do with what's going on in the NHL here in 2021. Next up, we got into some of the rumours that are circling the Oilers these days as the team has a bunch of players that will need new contracts, so we tried to make sense of which guys seem likely to return and who may be looking for a new home next season.
We are back with another episode of the Real Life Podcast and sadly, it is our first episode since the Oilers were eliminated from the playoffs. It was a tough week to be a Nation Citizen considering the Oilers were bounced and we started the podcast off by talking about the loss. We were then joined by our friend Dusty LaGrande from M.O.B.I.L.I.Z.E who talked about the unfortunate racism that Ethan Bear had to experience and the reaction to it. The Oilers season is done and we discussed how we felt about that. We also talked about why we're still feeling a little optimistic about what's next for our favourite hockey team. The end of the season also came with an ugly story surrounding Ethan Bear, who had to deal with an unfortunate racist incident. We were joined by Dusty from M.O.B.I.L.I.Z.E to talk about the incident, how Ethan handled it, and more. As always, Dusty was inspiring and really helped educate us. We wrapped up the pod with a little bit of betting talk with Scott from Oddsshark.
We decided to do two episodes of ONR per week during the playoffs and we didn't even get to our first before the Edmonton Oilers were bumped out after a crushing sweep at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets. Today, we try to make sense of what went wrong. Kicking off the episode, we got started by trying to make sense of what just happened. The toughest part about the loss is that the Oilers probably deserved better than what they got even though that doesn't make the result feel any better. From line combinations to giveaways to blowing leads in the third period, there were plenty of reasons why the Oilers couldn't pull themselves back into the series and we struggled to figure out why that is when the team seemed to play with so much confidence during the regular season. We also talked about how wild it was to watch an entire series of prison rules where refs weren't really calling anything outside of murder, and even then it was questionable whether they'd pull the whistles out. That's not to say it's the refs' fault that the Oilers lost but it was endlessly frustrating watching a subpar product because the NHL doesn't seem to care about its own rulebook. Lastly, we tried to finish off the podcast with some positive vibes but I don't really know how effective that was as you will soon hear. All-in-all, it was incredibly disappointing that our first playoff episode of ONR was to recap a very disappointing playoff performance.
The first three games of the Oilers' Stanley Cup run are in the books and, needless to say, things have not gone the way anyone would have expected which had the boys on the Real Life podcast fired up and ready to break it all down. On today's podcast, the guys looked at what's going wrong with the Oilers, previewed tonight's elimination game, and anything else that's going on in life. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys got started with a look at last night's devastating loss in game three and tried to make sense of what the hell happened. As far as disappointing losses go, this one has to rank up there with some of the most heartbreaking moments Oilers fans have experienced in recent memory. While there is still a slim chance that the Oilers may be able to come back, it goes without saying that they're going to need a whole lot of luck and hard work if they're going to get anywhere close. No matter how you slice it, this series has not gone the way that Oilers fans (and pundits) have expected and it will be interesting to see what (if anything) the boys have left in the tank for tonight's elimination game.
Is tonight the end? Well, I certainly hope it isn't but the Oilers are right up against it. It is officially do-or-die time for the Oily boys and while hope will never die, I must admit, it's hard to feel optimistic right now. These three losses have been about as crushing as any that I can remember. They've all been close, the Oilers have had a chance in every single one, and that makes it sting even more. Coming back from a 3-0 deficit rarely happens and really, you can't look at this situation as having to win four straight games. It's cliche, but you truly have to take it one game at a time. That starts tonight for the Oilers.
Well, tonight isn't technically a must-win game for the Edmonton Oilers, but it's as close as you can get. After dropping game two in heartbreaking fashion, Connor McDavid and company must rebound in a hurry if they want to stay in this best-of-seven. They haven't played poorly in either of the first two games against the Jets, you could actually make a pretty sound argument that they were actually the better team in each of the games, but they haven't been getting the bounces and they haven't done a good enough job finishing off their chances in the offensive zone. As bad as the first two games have felt, the Oilers could tie this series up within 48 hours. That should have you feeling at least a little optimistic.
The pressure is officially on for the Edmonton Oilers as they head into game two of their opening-round series against the Winnipeg Jets, down 1-0. The result in game one is disappointing, but don't let the 4-1 score fool you, the Oilers played well enough to win that hockey game. They need to make some adjustments in game two but there is no reason to be discouraged if you're an Oilers fan. This is still a good team and they rarely lost two games in a row down the stretch. With the first game jitters officially out of the way, there are no more excuses for the Oilers tonight. They need to bring their 'A' game if they want to even up this series. What does the team need to do differently? I went through that and more today on the Playoff Pre Game Podcast.
Happy Friday, everybody! The playoffs are underway and we're back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to get you set for the weekend and make sense of everything that's happened so far. On this week’s show, we looked back at Wednesday's loss against the Jets, offered a few ways the boys can rebound in game two, looked around the NHL, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's episode, we got started with a look at game 2 and what the Oilers need to do to make sure they even up the series before making their way to Winnipeg. Whether it's making life difficult for Connor Hellebuyck or throwing more hits on the Jets forwards, we had a bunch of different suggestions on what the Oilers could do to get themselves back in the win column. Looking ahead at tonight's rematch, we spoke a little bit about the good things Edmonton was able to do on Wednesday and what adjustments they'll have to make to get a better result. One thing that the Oilers will need to do is make sure they're taking advantage on the powerplay as it seems like there won't be many calls with the prison rules the refs seem happy to be running with. From there, we discussed Zack Kassian's quiet return to the lineup and how all of us expected more out of him in game one, especially since so many Oilers fans were disheartened by his disappearance in the play-in round last summer. Needless to say, #44 is on a short leash with the fanbase and it will be up to him to step up in a big way throughout the rest of the series.
Game one of the Oilers' Stanley Cup run is in the books and, needless to say, it did not go the way we wanted which had the boys on the Real Life podcast fired up and ready to break it all down. On today's podcast, the guys looked at what went wrong in game one, what needs to change ahead of Friday's rematch, and welcomed Scott Hastings from OddsShark to break down the latest NHL news and what’s going on in the world of sports gambling. Kicking things off, the guys got started with a recap from last night's hockey game and expressed their frustrations and disappointment with the way the series started. From a slow start to a couple of tough bounces against, the Oilers didn't look horrible by any means but it goes without saying that they need to pick things up ahead of game two. Changing gears, the guys started talking about Drake showing up at the Lakers games last night, which was another excuse to bring up the old story of when Jay got caught cheering for the Calgary Flames. Getting the show back on track, Tyler asked the guys to come up with a few keys that the Oilers need to take with them into game two to ensure that they head to Winnipeg with the series tied at one apiece. Finally, the guys wrapped up today’s podcast by welcoming Scott Hastings from OddsShark to help break down the latest betting trends from the NHL, recap the week that was, and offer up details on the latest news from the world of sports.
IT'S TIME FOR THE PLAYOFFS! The Oilers will finally begin their best-of-seven series against the Winnipeg Jets tonight! It's been tough having to watch almost every other series in the league get going while we sat on the sidelines but now, things get real. The Oilers, and specifically Connor McDavid, dominated the Jets in the season series but that doesn't really matter now. The playoffs are a totally different beast. The Oilers will still need to bring their 'A' game if they want to move past the Jets and getting off to a good start in game one of the series will be massive. How can they do that? I gave my keys to victory in today's Pre-Game Podcast!
With only a couple of days ahead of the playoffs getting started against the Jets, the boys are back with a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast to help get everyone set for the postseason. This week, the guys covered their regular season predictions, cat blogs, the playoffs, and a whole lot more. To kick off today’s podcast, the guys jumped in with a story of cat blogging as Wanye told the tale (PUN!) of a former business he and Baggedmilk were running and how it crashed spectacularly. Somehow the conversation about cats turned into a passionate chat about hip hop where Tyler revealed that he is one of the biggest DaBaby fans on Spotify. Steering the podcast back towards hockey, the guys spent a few minutes talking about the first handful of games that have happened since Saturday and how it looked like so much fun for the lucky fans that were able to attend. The guys also looked back at all of the predictions they made before the season got going and the results were about as ridiculous as you could expect. With the retrospective out of the way, the guys also looked ahead at the current playoffs and offered up some fresh takes on how the postseason tournament will play out.
Happy Friday, everybody! We're back with a playoff preview episode of Oilersnation Radio to get you set for the weekend and the first round of the playoffs that's set to go on Wednesday. On this week's show, we looked at the upcoming matchup against the Jets, offered a few playoff predictions, looked at our own keys to victory, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's episode, we got started with a discussion about which player on the Oilers' roster that we think could turn into the 2021 edition of Fernando Pisani? Amazingly, none of us had the same answer as we all saw different reasons to pick four different players to fill that role. From there, we looked at what the Oilers need to do to beat the Jets in their opening series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Needless to say, having the boys run through Winnipeg to the tone of a 7-2 season series win has given many of us confidence, but what details do the Oilers need to execute to keep the good times rolling? We also discussed whether or not we think Dave Tippett will go back to Mike Smith in their back-to-back games in games three and four of this series. From there, we gave our series predictions for all four divisions and took a few guesses as for which series winners were all but locked in. We also announced that we will be starting to do two episodes per week of ON Radio throughout the playoffs, starting on Tuesday, May 18th.
The Oilers will wrap up their regular season this afternoon with a mean-nothing game against the Vancouver Canucks. It'll be the final chapter of an incredible regular season for the orange and blue. That's the approach I took to today's Pre Game Podcast. There really isn't much to talk about when it comes to today's game so I went through some impressive numbers from the teams season, talked about some individual players that had really strong campaigns, and discussed some lineup notes and how they might impact the starting group for game one against the Jets. The goal today for Dave Tippett's team is just to stay sharp and not get injured. It's really as simple as that.
Another Thursday is upon us and that means a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast is here and ready to get you set for the weekend. On today’s show, the guys looked at betting on the first round, Connor McDavid's brilliance, and welcomed Scott Hastings from OddsShark to break down the latest NHL news and what’s going on in the world of sports gambling. Kicking off this week's podcast, the guys got started with a longwinded conversation about Stanley Cup betting and where everyone is putting their money as the Oilers get set for their first-round series against the Winnipeg Jets. Are we betting on RNH to get over 3.5 points? Tyson Barrie over four points? Stick with the Oilers, the boys spent a few minutes talking about McDavid's brilliance over the last month or so and how he seems absolutely unstoppable at this point. Sticking with the playoffs, the guys looked at what is sure to be a wild year in the NHL playoffs as some Canadian teams will have to make their way south for the later rounds. Needless to say, the boys were very excited about the start of this playoff push and everyone cannot wait for the show to get on the road. Finally, the guys wrapped up today’s podcast by welcoming Scott Hastings from OddsShark to help break down the latest betting trends from the NHL, recap the week that was, and offer up details on the latest news from the world of sports.
The games are really just getting more and more meaningless for the Edmonton Oilers. Since their overtime win on Monday against Montreal, the team has been locked into a playoff matchup against the Winnipeg Jets and no matter what happens in the final two games of their season, that can't change. So I guess the goals in the final two games are just to make sure that they keep up their strong play, enter the playoffs on a high note and make sure everyone is 100% healthy. That's really it. A win tonight would also bring the Oilers' record against the Canadiens this season up to 4-4-1. For me, the regular season can't end fast enough. The playoffs are so close that we know the likely start date for the series and I just want to watch some meaningful games. Until then, I guess tonight's game against the Habs will have to do.
The Oilers have locked up second place in the division and Connor McDavid has hit 100 points on the season. If you were to sit there and say that there isn't a lot for this team to play for, I wouldn't blame you. The team is saying all the right things and talking about how they can't take their foot off the gas ahead of the playoffs but let's be honest, the biggest priority this week is making sure nobody gets hurt. If the Oilers lose all three of these games but have their lineup at 100% come next week, then I won't complain. Of course, they want to keep up their strong play and make sure they're a confident group heading into the playoffs. Let's call this week the quest for healthy and confidence. It all starts tonight with the first of two games against the Montreal Canadiens.
After what was undoubtedly a tension-filled episode on Thursday, the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast recorded to help make sense of the world around us. This week, the guys covered McDavid hitting the century mark, Elon Musk on SNL, and a whole lot more. To kick off today's podcast, the guys jumped in with a look at Connor McDavid hitting the McCentury mark on Saturday night against the Canucks and what it's been like to watch him get there. Needless to say, what McDavid is doing right now is so incredibly special to watch and it was a lot of fun to hear the boys break down his remarkable season. They also discussed this last week of games and whether or not there's anything left to cheer for as we await the start of the 2021 NHL playoffs. Changing gears, the guys looked at Elon Musk hosting Saturday Night Live this past week and whether or not it was as big of a deal as some folks made it out to believe. For Baggedmilk and Wanye, both guys thought that Musk did a good job considering he's not an actor and it was interesting to hear everyone's reactions to his performance. Changing gears, the guys looked at the quotes that came out from Jack Eichel today and wondered whether his days in Buffalo are numbered. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday edition of the Real Life podcast with a chat about Darnell Nurse's fight from Saturday night and if he made a mistake by going for a takedown.
Happy Friday, everybody! For the second time this week, we're back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to get you set for the weekend with all of the Oilers takes and news that you could ever hope to have. This week, we looked at Smith and Puljujarvi's comeback seasons, Mikko Koskinen's new record, playoff matchups, and a whole lot more To kick off this week's episode, we jumped in with a look at two players that have had impressive comeback seasons with the Oilers after what happened in in 2019-20. Seeing as the Oilers have a few players that have played incredibly well, we spent a few minutes talking about which Edmonton Oiler has been the most impressive so far. From there, we jumped into the conversation that everyone was having this morning after Mikko Koskinen allowed four straight goals on the first four shots of the game, and whether or not it is a major deal in the grand scheme of things. We also took a few guesses at when the Oilers may go back to Koskinen after was undoubtedly a horrible night for the big Finn. Changing gears, we looked at the last four games on the Oilers schedule and whether or not there's anything left to play for outside of the McCentury chase. Sticking with the Oilers, we also looked at some of the new line combinations that came out in practice and whether or not it makes sense to change things up after only one loss. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another look at the McCentury and whether or no he'll hit the 100 point plateau this weekend or if we'll be waiting a little bit longer.
The Oilers will be gunning for their fourth straight win tonight as they continue their series against the Vancouver Canucks. They will be back on home ice tonight for this one as well, where they have a record 15-10-0. The Canucks are struggling right now. Not only have they lost the first two games of this four-game set against Edmonton, but they've now lost six consecutive games. With a win tonight, the Oilers will also clinch second place in the North Division and home-ice advantage in round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Also, Connor McDavid will be looking to take another towards a 100-point season. He currently sits just seven points away from the McCentury mark.
Another Thursday is upon us and that means a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast is here and ready to get you set for the weekend. On today’s show, the guys looked at the Tom Wilson situation in Washington, the NHL Department of Player Safety, and a whole lot more. Kicking things off, the boys jumped into the episode with some more food talk which seems to be a running theme with the podcast lately. From a new Oodle Noodle location to maraschino cherries, the food takes were flowing in the first few minutes. Back to hockey, the guys got into the shenanigans that happened between the Rangers/Capitals last night after the NHL Department of Player Safety refused to suspend Tom Wilson for what happened the night before. Surprisingly, the boys were split on the events from the Rangers/Capitals game and how the NHL handled the situation, and as you'll hear, the argument caused some tension amongst the boys. Trying to get things back on the rails, the guys started to talk about the Oilers as a means of easing the tensions but it didn't really work out as planned. Needless to say, this is one of the spiciest episodes of the Real Life podcast that we've had in a while and we cannot wait to hear your feedback.
After officially clinching a playoff spot last night, the Oilers are right back in action tonight as they look for their second straight against the Vancouver Canucks. Last night was a fun game for a handful of reasons. Clinching a playoff spot was fun and watching Connor McDavid rack up another four points was amazing as usual. Now, their focus shifts to clinching home-ice advantage, which they are very close to doing after how last night unfolded. That's really the last hurdle for the Oilers this season as they close out what has been an incredibly successful regular season. Tonight, they'll look to continue to crush the spirits of a Canucks team that is basically just crawling to the finish line.
On Friday's podcast, we said that we would record a bonus episode of Oilersnation Radio as soon as the Oilers clinched a playoff berth and since that very thing happened last night in Vancouver, we're back with a mid-week bonus episode to break it all down. To kick things off, we jumped in with a look at the big Clinchmas win over Vancouver and what the Oilers did right when the pressure was on to secure their playoff berth. Led by their captain, the Oilers did what was needed to get the job done and now we'll see our boys make the playoffs for only the second time (third if you count bubble days) in the last 15 years. Needless to say, the vibes were amazing last night on Oilers Twitter and we spent a few minutes talking about how excited the Nation is about the challenge to come. From there, we looked at the ridiculous run that Connor McDavid is on as he looks to be on another planet right now, untouchable by anyone else in this league, and it was a lot of fun to talk about the heater he's on. Next up, we looked at some of the Oilers' secondary pieces and how they're starting to perform at the level we need from them as we head into the playoffs. Lastly, we wrapped up today's bonus episode with some of our favourite playoff memories from years past while also hoping to add some new ones to the bank.
The Oilers begin a four-game set against the Vancouver Canucks tonight as they head down the stretch and look to finish their regular season on a high note. The Oilers have been the best team in the North over the last ten games, with seven wins, while the Canucks have been the exact opposite, winning just three of their last ten. Tonight could also very well be "clinch-mas" for the Oilers. If they just bring the game to overtime, they will officially lock up a playoff spot for just the third time in the last decade. Of course, the 100 point mark is still very much in reach for Connor McDavid and the Oilers are looking to grab home-ice advantage in round one of the playoffs on top of that. There is still plenty for the Oilers to play for in their final seven regular-season games.
A new week and month are here and that means the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast recorded to help make sense of the world around us. This week, the guys covered food preferences, Fabio getting hit by a goose, Clinchmas, and a whole lot more. Kicking off the Monday episode of Real Life, the boys got started with a look at their food choices after Jay broke the news that Oodle Noodle would soon be offering banana spring rolls. That prompted the boys to talk about their food preferences, including some childhood snacks that had absolutely no nutritional value. Somehow the food talk inspired a conversation about Fabio getting hit in the face with a goose back in the day, and that accident kicked off a 15-minute segment of needless bird talk. Getting back to the Oilers, the guys previewed tonight's matchup against the Canucks since Edmonton could officially clinch a playoff spot provided that they get at least one point. With the playoffs this close to happening again, the guys got into their bubbling excitement that comes with this time of year and broke down some of the potential matchups that could be coming.
The Oilers will be looking to bounce back tonight as they battle it out with the Flames for the final time this season. The Oilers came out on top in five of the first nine meetings but the Flames have won the last two games and in each of them, Edmonton did not have their 'A' game. So it's safe to say that Connor McDavid and company will be looking to have a bit of a bounceback performance tonight as they try to move a little bit closer to officially securing a playoff spot. It's the final Battle of Alberta of the season and hopefully, these two rivals saved the best for last.
Happy Friday, everybody! The end of the workweek is here and that means a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio is set and ready to lead you into the weekend. This week, we looked back at the series sweep against the Jets, last night's loss to the Flames, season expectations, and a whole lot more. To kick things off, we jumped in with a look at season expectations and whether or not the Oilers have met or exceeded what we all thought they would do this season. At the time of recording, the Oilers are sitting in second place in the North Division and that's basically where every single one thought they would be. We also narrowed the question down to a few specific players that have either exceeded or not met expectations and the answers were varied. From there, we welcomed the newest Nation team member, Matt Wozniak, to the podcast to explain a little bit about his new role with the network as well as chiming in with his hottest Oilers takes. With Woz settled in, we looked back at the games from this past week and offered our thoughts on what went well (against the Jets) and not so well (against the Flames). From there, we looked at a few specific Oilers that need to get going and offered a few thoughts on how they can make it happen.
Another Thursday is upon us and that means a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast is here and ready to get you set for the weekend. On today’s show, the guys looked at the Oilers' run over the Jets, Tim Tebow's attempt to make an NFL comeback, and welcomed Scott Hastings from OddsShark to break down the latest NHL news and what’s going on in the world of sports gambling. Kicking off the podcast, the boys jumped in with a quick look at the Edmonton Oilers, specifically the way Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has come back from injury looking more like himself than we've seen all season. That conversation was quickly derailed, however, after Yaremchuk disclosed that he drinks anywhere from five-eight bottles of water per day but refused to talk about the dehydration tactics that surely follow such levels of consumption. From there, the guys got sidetracked with a chat about outdoor projectors as people continue coming up with different ways to get together under the current COVID restrictions. The guys did try to get back on track with more Oilers talk, but once again, it really didn't last long before things eventually fell off the rails again. Finally, the guys wrapped up today’s podcast by welcoming Scott Hastings from OddsShark to help break down the latest betting trends from the NHL, recap the week that was, and offer up details on the latest news from the world of sports.
The wins just keep on coming for the Edmonton Oilers and tonight they'll be looking to give themselves a little bit of breathing room in the race for second place in the NHL's North Division. With the win on Monday night, the Oilers put themselves one point ahead of the Jets and they also have two games in hand. It's easy to see why a win tonight, which would be the Oiler's seventh over the Jets, would be huge. Edmonton has dominated the season series and that is in large part due to some incredible performances from Connor McDavid and Mike Smith. Monday's game was no exception. Smith made some huge saves early and McDavid was just on another planet. The Jets are banged up right now and struggling while everything seems to be going right for the Oilers. They'll look to keep things rolling in that direction tonight.
A new week is here and that means the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast recorded to help make sense of the world around us. This week, the guys covered Tyler's donair feedback, a potential new segment, NHL documentaries, and a whole lot more. Kicking off the Monday episode of Real Life, the boys got started with a look at the passionate feedback that came in from Tyler's first donair, specifically how he was getting bombarded with hatred over the way he held it and the toppings that were included. Amazingly, donairs weren't the only common food that Tyler hasn't eaten before and may have spawned a new segment where the boys get him to try new foods and activities. Next up, the guys looked at the UFC's weekend after two gruesome injuries came out in back-to-back fights and another round of discussion came up that the fighters are poorly paid. Back to hockey, the guys decided to brainstorm some ideas for potential documentaries that the National Hockey League could look at doing now that they have a new agreement with ESPN. Would it make sense to do a series about the Seattle Kraken? Would it make sense to focus on individual teams throughout the season? Lastly, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a look at tonight's matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets for what could potentially be a playoff matchup.
After four days off, the Oilers hit the ice tonight to start a two-game set against the Winnipeg Jets. With just 11 games to go in the season, the Oilers are still playing for home-ice advantage in round one of the playoffs and these final two head-to-head games against the Jets will go a long way in deciding that. The Oilers are catching a bit of a break for this one as the Jets will be without Nik Ehlers, who has been their most consistent and productive forward this season. The Jets will be dealing with a big loss while the Oilers will be making a pair of additions to their lineup with both Dmitry Kulikov and Ryan McLeod expected to draw in.
Happy Friday, everybody! The end of the workweek means we’ve got a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio set and ready to lead you into the weekend, leaving you with all of the Oilers knowledge and takes you could ever hope to have. This week, we looked back at the series against the Habs, McDavid's quest for 100 points, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today’s episode, we jumped in with a look at this week's Giant Question which revolved around Connor McDavid's quest for 100 points in this shortened season. With 77 points already in the bank and 11 games left to play, it will take one hell of a run to get to the century mark but if there's anyone in the league that can get it done, it would definitely be McDavid. From there, we looked at this week's series against the Montreal Canadiens which was easily one of the most exciting couple of nights of the season. With a split series now in the rearview mirror, we wondered whether the Oilers are built for such a physical style and whether or not they have to engage as much as they did against the Habs or simply focus on their game. Seeing as there were a couple of injuries in that series, we also looked at Dave Tippett's new line combinations that were put together today and practice as well as the new defensive pairings that now feature the newly acquired Dmitry Kulikov. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with a preview of Monday night's game against the Winnipeg Jets in what could be another playoff preview.
Another Thursday has rolled around on the calendar and that means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is here and ready to get you set for the weekend. On today’s show, the guys looked at Yaremchuk's first donair, the Oilers' series against the Canadiens, and welcomed Scott Hastings from OddsShark to break down the latest NHL news and what’s going on in the world of sports gambling. Kicking off the podcast, the boys jumped in with a look at Tyler Yaremchuk's donair virginity after it was revealed on the radio this morning that he had never eaten a donair before. Shocked by this blasphemy, Jay took it upon himself to have one sent to Tyler's apartment so that he could have his first-ever donair on the show. Changing gears, Jay and Chalmers told the story of how they both got their first dose of the AZ vaccine this past week and how happy they were to finally get the process started after what has seemed like a long wait. Getting back to the Oilers the guys broke down the two-game series against the Canadiens and how it was as close to playoff hockey as we've seen so far. From the physicality in that series to the way both teams were able to create chances in bunches, a playoff series between the Habs and Oilers could be endlessly intense and it was a lot of fun to talk about the possibilities. Finally, the guys wrapped up today’s podcast by welcoming Scott Hastings from OddsShark to help break down the latest betting trends from the NHL, recap the week that was, and offer up details on the latest news from the world of sports.
After a thrilling victory on Monday, the Oilers will be looking to finish up their two-game set against the Montreal Canadiens with a victory. The last meeting between these two teams had a little bit of everything. There was no shortage of physical play, some wild moments, and a beautiful goal from Connor McDavid. From an entertainment perspective, it had everything you could want. Tonight's game also gives the Oilers a chance to inch closer to the top spot in the division, which suddenly doesn't feel out of reach at all. There is still plenty for these teams to play for, even if the four playoff spots are essentially locked up.
Coming off one of their most complete performances of the season on the weekend, the Oilers will look to keep the ball rolling tonight as they host the Montreal Canadiens for the first of two games. Tonight also marks the Oilers' first home game in 17 days. The Oilers should be feeling good heading into this hockey game while the Habs might not be the most confident group right now considering they have just two wins in their last seven games. At the same time, the Canadiens have absolutely had the Oilers number so far this season. They've won four of the five matchups in the season series and have held Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl to just two points each in those games. The Oilers will look to break through tonight as they begin a two-game set against Montreal.
After a full week off, the Oilers are back in action tonight to take on the Winnipeg Jets. With only 14 games left in the season and a playoff spot essentially wrapped up, there aren't too many more important games on the Oilers' schedule. Tonight is certainly one of those games. The Oilers are currently five points back of the Jets in the North Division standings but do have two games in hand of them. A win tonight will go a long way in helping them catch Winnipeg and hopefully, secure home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. We should see a rested Oilers group, although rest hasn't always helped them this season, but there really aren't any excuses for the club tonight. They should put their best foot forward in this one. They'll need to show well tonight because their opponent has been red-hot as of late.
Happy Friday, everybody! As we do every week, we’ve got a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to offer you all of the hottest Oilers takes and news you could ever hope to hear as we head into the weekend. This week, we’re looking back at the trade deadline, another COVID delay, tomorrow's game against the Jets, and a whole lot more Kicking off today’s episode, we jumped in with a look at the Oilers roster and specifically which guy needs to get going before the playoffs. Seeing as there are a few guys that could really stand to get going, it was interesting to hear the guys' takes on who needs to step it up. From there, we got into what was a very quiet trade deadline for Ken Holland and did our best to break down everything that did and did not happen. One trade that did go through was picking up defenceman Dmitry Kulikov from the NJ Devils and that made us all wonder where Dave Tippett will play him and who with? Next up, we ran through some schedule changes as the NHL continues to hang onto the dream of having every team play a 56-game season despite how unlikely that's starting to look. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with a preview of tomorrow night's game against the Winnipeg Jets.
The Oilers will be eyeing up their sixth win of the season over the Calgary Flames tonight, something they haven't done since 1985-86. The Flames are pretty much out of the playoff race but you know they'll still be fired up for the chance to beat their provincial rivals. The Battle of Alberta hasn't been as spicy as it was last season, but there have been some heated moments and I'm sure the Flames haven't forgotten how Mike Smith celebrated the last victory by yelling right at Matt Tkachuk. There are no free spaces on the bingo card in this division and if the Oilers want to grab two points and stay in second place in the North Division, they'll need to bring their 'A' game.
After winning their eighth straight game over the Ottawa Senators last night, the Oilers will look to complete the season sweep tonight with their second straight game in the nation's capital. It's been a dominant stretch for Edmonton but last night's win was closer than any of the others this season. They needed a really strong game from both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl as well as some huge saves from Mikko Koskinen down the stretch. The Oilers have been very good in the second half of back-to-backs this season and the Sens just can't buy a break against Edmonton but can a ninth straight game really go the Oiler's way? At some point the law of averages has to come into play, RIGHT?
After blowing a third-period lead in Montreal to kick off their road trip, the Oilers will move on to play back-to-back games against the Ottawa Senators. The Oilers have been winning their fair share of games recently but they haven't exactly been playing their best hockey and Monday's game was a prime example of that. Yes, they got a point, but, there were far more negatives to pull from that game than positives. The next two games will be a great chance for the Oilers and their star players to bounce back. Not only have the Oilers beaten the Senators in each of their seven meetings this season but they've outscored them by 19 goals. It's basically been dominant win after dominant win. McDavid and Draisaitl, who didn't score against Montreal, have combined for 33 points in the seven games against the Sens.
After a very short stint at home, the Oilers are back on the road once again this week. They start a three-game road trip tonight in Montreal against a Habs team that has played them very well so far this season. The Canadiens are now 3-1-0 against the Oilers and a big reason why they've had so much success is that they've been able to shut down both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl better than any other team in this division. The Oiler's big guns will look to get rolling tonight as the team looks for their second straight victory. Thanks to a win on Saturday over the Flames, the Oilers are basically locked into a playoff spot but if they want home-ice advantage in round one, winning games against Montreal will go a long way.
