We've all heard of the Salem Witch Trials, the deadliest witchhunt in colonial North America... but few have heard of the Witch Trials of Winnsboro, South Carolina. It was 1792, exactly 100 years after the Salem Witch Trials, and something mysterious and malicious was brewing down South. Cows were dying, people were levitating and others were being transformed into animals without their consent. The townspeople of Winnsboro, South Carolina, was certain that their small farming community was being destroyed by a WITCH. 77 year-old Mary Ingleman was the first to be accused... by her very own son. What then followed was numerous other accusations and a horrific trial held illegally by the townspeople at the farm of Thomas Hill. What ensued was a horrific example of falsely accused witches and wrongful convictions and treatment of innocent souls. But it did leave us wondering... is the devil hot? Like, he for sure has chiseled abs and somehow always appears to be doused in baby oil, right? Have ghost stories of your own? Lighthearted and with laughter, Cameron and BJ Arnett tell of their upbringings and how the faith of their parents influenced them. With great suggestions for relationships, they tell their Satan check strategy and their strategy to bring God in. Cameron says, We had this thing called Satan check. Whenever we felt like the atmosphere was getting a little thick from an adversarial perspective, we would stop and say, Satan check' and we would introspectively look at ourselves as to what we needed to repent, change whatever and come back together and do it Gods way. Among playing the blind man in the Kendrick movie, Overcomer, Cameron is an award-winning actor in television, film and theater. He has appeared on about every major network; in NBC's Miami Vice, Fox's Star Trek, ABC's Doogie Houser. Cameron's wife, BJ, also, is an actress, speaker and producer. Together they powerfully share the critical answer to their difficult lives before God, including divorce to now. Turning to God Blended Family ...so for five years, I was in torment... Cameron Hear how Cameron got out of torment as he says of what got him out: It impacted me drastically. I turned from one man to next. The Arnetts also touch on: Children, let me tell you all of my mistakes, so you do not have to make them, which is in Cameron's children's book: A Good Man - A Child's "I Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda!" Story Available at cameronarnett.com/shop. Marriage takes attention. Cleaning until there is a hole in the counter. Blended family the good and challenges. Losing it all. Our perspective We believe what God has said about our marriage and children. We believe God. Cameron tells, I was 20 when I received Christ for the first time, but I went to a church that taught me how to get saved every Sunday, so it never really taught me how to live, so for five years, I was in torment, because I loved God, I had a conscious now, but I didn't know how to live for God. So I still lived how I lived before and I was dying on the inside for five years. So at the end of those five years I met Christ for the first time and got converted and all those things and it changed me forever. It impacted me drastically. I turned from one man to next. God Arranged Marriage Would you give up top Hollywood career to remain faithful to God? Hear Cameron's decision on partial body nudity. Both divorced and bankrupt, hear the impossible story of how Cameron and BJ reconnect. Truly God at work doing something one would never do on our own. Now they have been married 22 years. Divine Orchestrator How do you know God's will for your life? Hear from Cameron, who prays for you. Hear the crazy, fun story of how Cameron gets the role of Thomas Hill in the Kendrick movie Overcomer. Key Kendrick advice: Stay Humble. Movies discussed: Overcomer I Still Believe Maddie the Discovery How do you know God's will for your life? God has the Wordthe Biblethat God has already written. That is the revealed will of God. So, you know God's will by reading that. The reason why most people miss the preceding word of God is because they neglect the revealed will of God. So, the Word of God is written for us to follow the way we are supposed to. If you do that you will actually be doing the will of God. Then, the Holy Spirit is given to you to lead you into all truth. But He can't lead you into all truth when you haven't followed the truth that you already should know. Most people have to get back to the written word and they'll find that is where the Holy Spirit is speaking from, because that is where He lives. He wrote it. So, until you abide by that there is nothing else for Him to say. In this episode, Wes sits down with Thomas Hill III, the chief executive officer of Kimray, Inc about how hope can help us recover our lives when we lose our way. As the grandson of Kimray's founder, Garman Kimmell, Thomas grew up around the family business and manages the family-owned company with a sense of stewardship and heritage. In 1948, Kimray revolutionized pressure regulation in the oil and gas industry by introducing a three-inch pilot-operated back pressure regulator. The company has since grown to be a globally-known manufacturer of a comprehensive line of reliable, smart, and inventive American-made control equipment for safely and efficiently producing oil and gas. Having worked in virtually every department, Thomas has an intimate knowledge of the processes and people involved from start to finish. Thomas earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Oklahoma State University. He and his wife have been married for over 30 years and have six children. When he is not doing something with his family, working at Kimray, or sharing his story with others, you will find Thomas reading and writing, collecting LAMY fountain pens, and learning something about everything. Thomas grew up in a high-performing family, which shaped his belief that people are worth what they can accomplish. This sent Thomas on a long and unfulfilling journey of pursuing success by constantly doing bigger and better things. Life eventually spun out of control, and Thomas hit rock bottom. Unfortunately, this meant Kimray hit rock bottom at the same time. Thomas's story does not end there. Through significant pain and loss, he began the long and difficult road of recovery that transformed his life and leadership. Today, Thomas enjoys sharing his story with others who can benefit from the lessons he has learned. He is committed to carrying the message of Recovering Leadership to other “addict leaders” and practicing these principles in his personal life.

On this week's show, we change things up a bit and bring you the first in a new series of mini-episodes entitled re:blurb, where we break down concepts from rhetorical theory and history in practical terms and use contemporary examples to illustrate their usefulness in examining language in action. For this first installment, Alex takes the mic to explain stasis theory: a set of concepts reiterated throughout rhetorical history that help speakers and writers both analyze and invent arguments. This theory holds that all arguments contain “stasis claims” about the facts at hand in an issue, the definition of key terms and elements in the debate, the evaluation of those elements, and prescriptions of action. Using the stases, we can see how arguers try to “get ahead of” different potential points of disagreement and address specific audiences. In addition, we can think about how we can make better arguments by predicting how others might view each stasis category of a particular issue. This is especially useful when analyzing why arguers choose to stay at a particular stasis level to reach a specific audience. To illustrate how stasis theory can widen our understanding of an arguments and their audiences, Alex uses the stases to analyze Brett Kavanaugh's Wall Street Journal op-ed “I Am an Independent, Impartial Judge,” published in the wake of his and Christine Blasey-Ford's testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, prior to his confirmation and appointment to the Supreme Court.Works & Concepts Referenced in this Episode:Fahnestock, J., & Secor, M. How do you create the conditions for peacefulness in a place like Iraq that has been in such intense, destructive conflict for so long? How do you use yourself as an outsider to support people on the ground who wish to create a different kind of future for their children? And how do you go about setting up academic programs, in war-torn countries or peaceful ones, that rigorously train students in the best methods for creating the conditions for peacefulness? Thomas Hill speaks to all of these questions on this episode of The Peacebuilding Podcast: Bridging the Divide. With his mellifluous voice (that this podcaster believes should be put to use on radio), Tom talks about his near singular focus on Iraq over 16 years and 35 trips. Tom, aka Dr. Hill, is a clinical associate professor at the Center for Global Affairs at New York University's School of Professional Studies, where he is the Director of the Initiative for Peacebuilding through Education. He is a peacebuilding practitioner, researcher and has developed a series of inter-related projects focused on increasing levels of peacefulness in Iraq. Tom talks about his journey into the peacebuilding field through journalism as well as his creation of NYU's Peacebuilding concentration. He reflects on the changing perceptions about the Peacebuilding field from those who still think it's a 1960's holdout, to those who now accept it as becoming mainstream e.g. the U.S. State Department. He describes why students come to the NYU program, what they learn, and what they do when they leave. Most importantly, Tom talks in great detail about the his work in Iraq over the last 16 years and how he and Iraqi partners have gradually created academic but activist conflict resolution centers that are ground zero for those who are done with the destruction around them, and 100% committed to finding a different path. With poignant clarity, he shares his first moments in Iraq in 2003, enjoying beautiful food and wonderful Iraqi hospitality in a home with a kalashnikov leaning against every window, dark moments over the years turning into brighter ones, the serendipity of the worst events like ISIL taking over Mosul being the impetus for the University of Mosul to consider development of a program in peace studies. In keeping with the theme of those interviewed on The Peacebuilding Podcast, Tom talks about the structural or systemic changes that are necessary, in Iraq, the United States and elsewhere, for peacefulness to really take hold. He gives listeners his top three insights and learnings from the work in Iraq, his favorite book on building peace, and the tool or technique from Bill Ury that he has found most useful overall. If you are someone who is tired of our public conversation that is dominated by destructive, violent conflict and are thinking about how peace really can be built, listen to this creative, upbeat voice and become inspired about lessons you can immediately put to work!
