It's Final Four weekend and sadly the Kentucky Wildcats came up short this year in their bid for a 9th national title. Bookending our look back at special moments in UK basketball history WUKY's Saving Stories highlights another famous shot, the one Duke's Christian Laettner hit in overtime against the Wildcats in the 1992 East Regional final in Philadelphia. The buzzer beater marked the end of an era for the team affectionately known as “The Unforgettables.” Nunn Center director Doug Boyd shares interviews with UK players Sean Woods – who hit the Wildcats' go-ahead basket with two seconds on the clock, and John Pelphrey, one of the defenders responsible for guarding Laettner on the long inbounds pass; a split-second moment that he admits misremembering. Doug even shares a clip of a song he wrote about the game and the aftermath called 1992.

In 1988, the U.S. Men's basketball team finished with a disappointing bronze medal, after having won the gold in almost every other previous Olympiad. For that reason or because some teams had professional players, the Olympics opened the games to professionals. The United States loaded up their squad with 11 of the NBA's best, plus Christian Laettner. The first game was against Angola which, to put it kindly, was slaughtered by the Americans.

The UConn Huskies are back-to-back national champions after defeating the Purdue Boilermakers, 75-60, to conclude the college basketball NCAA Tournament. Danny Hurley's team won every tournament game by 14 or more points, with a total point differential of 140 representing the biggest in tournament history. Is UConn now cemented as a college hoops dynasty? They have six titles in six appearances, with only UCLA, Kentucky, and North Carolina having more all-time. Tristen Newton led UConn in scoring in each of the past two tournaments, joining Christian Laettner from Duke as the only people to do that since the tournament expanded in 1985.Zach Edey had 37 points in a losing effort for Matt Painter's squad, while Braden Smith (12 points) was the only other Boilermaker in double figures. Purdue didn't quite 'pull a Virginia' but they certainly helped put last season's loss to Fairleigh-Dickinson in the rearview mirror.Join the Locked On College Basketball Discord: https://discord.gg/bsKxDp8Qqb Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

This week we are so excited to welcome NBA All-Star Jamal Mashburn (Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets) to The Old Man and the Three! Mash was truly an amazing guest. He got into what he sees when watching today's NBA and how he compares it to where the league was in the 1990s and 2000s. He also shared great stories about playing for Rick Pitino at the University of Kentucky, why he thinks Pitino is the best teacher of the game, and how he thinks Pitino was ahead of his time. Then, Mash discusses his own skillset, one that many would also consider to be ahead of its time in the 90s. JJ and Mash also have an in-depth discussion about basketball skill development in the present day and how it does or doesn't translate to the NBA. Mash also shares what Michael Jordan once told him in a one-on-one game, and what he remembers about playing in possibly the greatest NCAA basketball game ever played (The Christian Laettner shot). New York Knicks guard Josh Hart then joins for a draft of Things That Should Be Illegal. The title is a little deceiving, but will make sense once you hear the story behind it!So, Sarah and MJ tackle the White Elephant in the room (OSU vs Xichigan), which has absolutely been beaten to death (but then again how long have we Kentuckians held on to Christian Laettner)? Then there's the CFP and how that is going to fall out (still a crap shoot) because they all have to lose for OSU to get in, but yet, those teams have to play each other. This whole thing is CRAZY.
