In this preview of the latest Patreon-exclusive, themed edition of Between The Sheets, Kris and David discuss some of the reactions to Vince McMahon's indictment that were shared in the 1993 Wrestling Flyer Yearbook. Hear what John Clark got out of Paul Heyman, Bill Eadie,Tom Brandi, Jerry Lawler, Jerry Lawler, Dave Meltzer, and Matt Borne on the most powerful man in wrestling being charged as part of a drug dealing conspiracy. Kris and David also try to decipher why the Justice Department pursued a seemingly unsinkable version of the steroid case when there was a much more serious scandal out in the open. For the whole episode, go to Patreon.com/BetweenTheSheets and support the show for just $5/month. --- Here's the description for the full show: The Patreon-exclusive shows pivot to some of the great interviews in the history of pro wrestling newsletters, starting with 1993 Wrestling Flyer Yearbook. The Flyer was put out by John Clark, who's now a long-tenured Philadelphia sportscaster, but back in the day, he did the best insider/shoot interviews in wrestling. The first half of the show focuses on John's roundtable with numerous pro wrestling notables on the state of the business, including Chris Benoit's thoughts on steroids, Terry Funk's psychic powers as the pro wrestling oracle, Paul Heyman hinting at his plans to revamp ECW, and much more. After a quick detour to Ted DiBiase talking about how he was dealing with his career-ending neck injury taking him off the road, we get to the main event: Sid Vicious. Clark interviewed Sid twice in 13 months, first when he was between promotions, and then in the aftermath of the altercation where he and Arn Anderson stabbed each other. Hear Sid's version of what happened, his thoughts on newsletter columnists blaming it on “‘roid rage,” his assessment of WCW's drug testing policy, his desire for respect from his peers, and MUCH more. This is a unique, must-listen show. March 17th, 1998: This week, it's a special Tuesday episode of "Raw" because The USA Network wanted to air a whale movie in the WWF's Monday timeslot instead! Four months after The Montreal Screwjob, Vince McMahon finally embraces his inner bad guy and tells the world what he really thinks about the possibility of a "Stone Cold" Steve Austin title reign. The Rock introduces not one, not two, but three of his most popular catchphrases! Ken Shamrock uses some rather racist language to describe D'Lo Brown, which he later pays for by receiving one of the most horrific chair-shots in wrestling history. Sable calls out Luna Vachon, but an unexpected guest ends up crashing the party. Triple-H attempts to coerce an injured Owen Hart into defending his European Title less than two weeks before their scheduled match at "Wrestlemania 14." Chainsaw Charlie goes head-to-head with Billy Gunn, and The Road Dogg ends up being the victim of a rather bizarre form of humiliation. The Rock 'n Roll Express & Jim Cornette take on The Headbangers in a 3-on-2 Handicap Match, but Cornette's newest proteges end up getting the last laugh. "Double J" Jeff Jarrett goes up against Tom Brandi, and the result of the match causes someone to blurt out a very loud f-bomb (which The WWE Network thankfully leaves uncensored!). Plus, an appearance by a local sports mascot, The Undertaker openly plagiarizes "Pulp Fiction," and three more superstars get inducted into Wrestler Heaven! Enjoying the Podcast? March 2nd, 1998: Shawn Michaels calls out Mike Tyson face-to-face, and the ensuing confrontation shocks the entire WWF. Kane and Paul Bearer challenge "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, but they get more than they bargained for when The Undertaker surprisingly returns after a six-week absence! Owen Hart defends his European Championship against Mark Henry while Chyna attempts to make her presence felt. Jeff Jarrett has left The NWA and inconceivably returned to his former country singer gimmick, and his new pal Tennessee Lee is along for the ride. The New Age Outlaws claim they are unable to defend their WWF Tag Team Titles after being assaulted by Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie last week, but Commissioner Slaughter is not buying it. Tom Brandi renews his rivalry with Marc Mero, who continues to feud with The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust, Luna Vachon, and his own wife. Steve Blackman faces Kama Mustafa, whose Nation of Domination pals are banned from ringside. Taka Michinoku and The Headbangers team up to face Barry Windham and The Rock 'n Roll Express as The NWA continues to struggle. Plus, another celebrity is announced for "Wrestlemania 14," although the term "celebrity" is rather generous in this case. Enjoying the Podcast? January 19th, 1998: The fallout from last night's "Royal Rumble" pay-per-view spills over to Monday night! Mike Tyson comes to "Raw" to discuss his deal with the WWF, but "Stone Cold" Steve Austin wants a piece of "The Baddest Man on the Planet." Paul Bearer and Kane claim to have destroyed The Undertaker, but DX makes it their mission to track down The Dead Man. The New Age Outlaws defend their WWF Tag Team Titles against The Godwinns. The Rock takes on Ahmed Johnson, who proceeds to yell the loudest F-bomb in network television history. Marc Mero and Tom Brandi finally settle their epic feud while Sable is courted by a secret admirer. Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie take on a returning team of former three-time WWF Tag Team Champions. Jeff Jarrett defends his NWA North American Heavyweight Championship against Blackjack Bradshaw (a.k.a. the future JBL) as Jim Cornette's NWA stable continues to grow. Los Boricuas go head-to-head against the nonsensical team of Owen Hart, Taka Michinoku, and The Headbangers. The Nation of Domination squares off with The Disciples of Apocalypse because Gang Warz are cool. Plus, Vince Russo puts himself over in a commercial for a magazine! Enjoying the Podcast? January 5th, 1998: "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is a marked man heading into the upcoming Royal Rumble, so he decides to preemptively take out his competition. Jim Cornette seeks to bring "real wrestling" to the WWF by brokering a deal with the National Wrestling Alliance. Owen Hart goes one-on-one with Savio Vega, but DX has a plan for "The Black Hart." Later, Shawn Michaels calls out The Undertaker, presumably thinking there was no way The Dead Man would actually show up. Kane has apparently abandoned Paul Bearer after three whole months of them being united. Marc Mero and Tom Brandi finally go head-to-head, but Sable takes the majority of the bumps. The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust performs in blackface as Vince McMahon presumably laughs uproariously backstage. The New Age Outlaws take on The Headbangers in a match which features one of the most unique ball-shots in wrestling history. The Truth Commission and The Disciples of Apocalypse continue to feud with each other, to the delight of no one. Plus, can Ken Shamrock defeat a member of The Nation of Domination for the third week in a row? Also, a pre-taped appearance from a real-life murderer! Enjoying the Podcast?
