Show Notes: Despite what Americans may think, moral panics about TV exist everywhere and today, we begin the exploration of a doozy. The start of a two-part look into four episodes of Star Trek that came a cropper at the hands of Auntie Beeb (a not-so affectionate term for the BBC) that of course allows Miles to indulge in one of his favourite talking points about British movie culture - Video Nasties! Because of this, we're only looking at two episodes per part. In ‘Miri,' we see some very familiar style backlots and some very 1960s ways of talking to young women which definately makes our casual explorers think Auntie may have a point! Then, we jump straight to the third season of The Original Trek as our heroes endure ten minutes of plot and forty minutes of bloody nonsence in ‘Plato's Stepchildren,' possibly one of the most famous episodes of Star Trek (unless you're from the Deep South) but is consent more important than controversy? Whatever we decide, the Big List will change forever! Episodes discussed: ‘Miri' (10:39) and ‘Plato's Stepchildren' (38:17) Talking Points: Video Nasties, why were these episodes banned from broadcast until the 90s, Miles' first choice for his Non-Trek thing indicates some wider issues, Alien Romulus, Miles misses Stupid Drunk British Lads smashing stuff with pipes, Astro's Playroom, Miles and Charlie have different views towards achieving Platinum on games, Miri, Miles only wants to talk about lists, not get put on one himself, the always creepy 'she looks 14 but she's actually 300 trope,' Kirk's charm here does not read well in 2024, exact replicas of Earth are a little silly, how many SF societies wipe themselves out looking for immortality (and Miles pulls out a bit of 'meanwhile in the UK, Doctor Who was doing this' coincidence), we briefly touch on the rather triggering experiences of Grace Whitney (Yeoman Rand) shortly after this episode and her leaving the series, the oddly faced Steven Jay Pollard, Droogs in waiting, Shatner clearly trying not to punch a child, did the BBC have a point with Miri? Violence from children, inferred child-death, Hey Jude, the majesty of the theme for ‘The Good, The Bad and the Ugly,' whenever people bring up eugenics, just turn around and run, we've started to incorporate our experiences with Space 1999 into watching Star Trek, nonsense starts and just generally never stops, Charlie gets slap-happy, Mary Whitehouse would not approve which is fine because we don't approve of Mary Whitehouse. The nonsense gets creepy when Spock starts singing and it gets REALLY creepy when Kirk and Uhura is made to smooch, Charlie really wants to make a Dragonball Z joke here, when it's done, Miles is pulling off the band-aid, some real shame on our heroes her, is this our first mention of slash-fics? This episode doesn't go full-Hellraiser, No Gods No Philosopher Kings, sorry Parmon, one day Miles will go on a long tirade on how people misuse the term ‘Lynchian,'how much truth is there in the legend, would you show this to your partner and we can't escape Shatner's disturbingly pointy nipple, Miles has watched some wank in his life and that definately reflects his opinion of the episode, Miles poses Charlie a very important question.

Welcome, all you baddiwad malchicks and ptitsas! Grab a glass of Moloko Plus and get ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence as NostalgiaCast shares a few choice slovos about Stanley Kubrick's dystopian crime classic, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE, based on the novel by Anthony Brugess. Jonny and Darin tackle the controversies surrounding the film, whether its themes of morality and free will are justified by its subject matter, and how its nasty, nihilistic imagery played an integral part in our movie-watching habits.
Folge von Tales of Us geht. Folgende Songs haben wir heute auf die Playlist gesetzt:Die Toten Hosen - Hier kommt AlexRage Against The Machine - Killing In the NameFür Euch stehen folgende Songs zur Auswahl:Broilers - Meine SacheCamouflage - The Great CommandmentRocky Horror Picture Show - Time WarpDie "Mother of all Playlists" findet ihr bei Spotify und AmazonMusic.
The KOPPOD crew memorialize Jerry Springer's passing with a wide-ranging discussion, using GG ALLIN's appearance on 'The Jerry Springer Show' as a springboard. Lots of riffing accompanied by some analysis of moral panics during the 80s, 90s, and today (as viewed through the lens of punk subculture). They pay particular attention to a 1990 'Donahue' episode about 2 LIVE CREW's obscenity charges, which featured JELLO BIAFRA, MIKE MUIR, and WENDY O. WILLIAMS as guest panelists. Author and film historian Sloan De Forest joins to discuss Stanley Kubrick's A CLOCKWORK ORANGE starring Malcolm McDowell. The 1971 dystopian science fiction film based on Anthony Burgess's novel follows a British teen Alex DeLarge and his gang of Droogs committing ultra-violence in a not-so-distant future. When convicted of a brutal murder, Alex is given an opportunity to submit to an experimental behavioral treatment, leading to unpredictable psychological damage. A CLOCKWORK ORANGE sparked controversy upon its release, some critics praising its visionary world-building, others decrying its depiction of rape and murder as irresponsible. Though labeled with an "X" rating, CLOCKWORK proved to be a box office hit and Best Picture nominee. After a series of alleged copycat crimes took place, the film was made unavailable in the UK for nearly three decades, but that only strengthened the film's reputation as a transgressive and singularly powerful work. On this episode, we take a long look into CLOCKWORK's artistry and infamy, as well as diversions into Working Girl, The Searchers, The Sopranos, Star Trek Generations, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Franklin & Bash, and much, much more! A CLOCKWORK ORANGE is currently available to stream with subscription to HBO Max.
In the last episode of Violence and the 3 Droogs, the gang discusses themes that cross over in cult-classic films Taxi Driver, American Psycho, and Fight Club. BONUS: Our top 5 films of the course, ranked. What a ride.
But then we go Kubrick-ing with a look at 1971's notorious "A Clockwork Orange." Droogs, you see. Timestamps: 11:22 "Crimes of the Future" 35:33 "Fire Island" 53:41 "A Clockwork Orange" Thanks to Dylan Mayer and My Friend Mary, both of which are wonderful, for the music. We hope you enjoy. Episode 47 : A Clockwork Orange with Shirley and Tony Jaffe Shirley Jaffe is a British actress who trained at the Central School of Speech & Drama in 1954. Among other early jobs, she was in the first British Theatre in the Round Company at Scarborough, with Stephen Joseph and later Alan Ayckbourn. Her film career began in the mid-'50s with Crime/Dramas The Passing Stranger in 1954, and The Secret Tent in 1956. Shirley was also a regular cast member of the long-running TV serial Emergency Ward 10 as Nurse Angela Foster in the late '60s, and in 1970 she appeared in Hammer's Taste the Blood of Dracula with the late great Christopher Lee. She appeared on television in the infamous Michael Jackson's Earth Song live performance at The Brits in 1996, and as a Greek nun in Little Britain Abroad. She's directed and acted in plays in Brighton, Edinburgh, The West End, and Helsinki festivals and recently played Irene in the award-winning British feature Ambleton Delight. She was nominated for a Star Award in the Brighton Fringe for her performance as "Nana" in the musical, Here Comes the Bride. More recently she appeared with her husband Tony in the music video to Spankox's “To The Club”. Her latest film is called Nurse Shirley Foster. This is Kubrick's Universe and so…… in 1971 Shirley made an appearance in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange, when she played a nurse who helps administer the first round of Ludovico's treatment to Alex DeLarge, of course played inimitably by Malcolm McDowell. Skybreak, the home she shared with her husband Tony, was also featured in the film, as the interior location for the scene in which Alex and his Droogs attack a writer and his wife (played by Patrick Magee and Adrienne Corri). Production Credits : Hosted by Jason Furlong / Researched and written by Stephen Rigg and Jason Furlong / Theme written and performed by Jason Furlong / Produced and edited by Stephen Rigg / Contributions by Mark Lentz & James Marinaccio

Few performances on the big screen are as memorable as Malcolm McDowell's portrayal of ultraviolent Alex, who terrorizes the night with his Droogs. The film catapulted McDowell to international stardom and firmly entrenched Stanley Kubrick in the pantheon of world's most interesting and innovative directors. An endless repository of fascinating stories, we learn from Malcolm about the serendipitous collaborations that made the film come alive, the futuristic design and eccentric costumes that brought sharp relief to the movie's dystopian message. Malcolm also says that what made Alex such a compelling villain was "his joie de vivre. He really enjoyed life." McDowell also talks about how the fascist subtext and corrupt authorities make the film seem so timeless, and how after a half century it speaks so directly to our present moment. Besides gem-like observations about working so closely with Kubrick, a director known to be difficult with actors, we also spend a fair bit of time talking about director Lindsay Anderson, "If," and "O Lucky Man." Anderson was a director known to be fond of his actors, so the contrast gave the young actor the resiliency and durability for which he is justly famous. We also talk about current projects of McDowell's, his case of Covid, living in Ojai and Kubrick's "Napoleon," known as the "Greatest Movie Never Made." We did not talk about McDowell's passion for golf, blood diamonds or Rupert Murdoch.

Viddy well, little brother, viddy well! In yet another milestone celebration, Nick and Dain, along with their latest guest, Riqo T. Allen commemorate the 50th anniversary of one of cinema's most culturally and aesthetically significant films, "A Clockwork Orange". In 1971, this controversial flick by Stanley Kubrick filled with amazing performances, gorgeous aesthetics, and thought-provoking themes dazzled (and shocked) audiences worldwide. On top of that, “A Clockwork Orange” serves as a satire on the dark nature of society and the human condition. Tune in as the gang dive deep into this ultraviolent world to analyze the themes and relevance of this unsettling yet unforgettable masterpiece…
Paul Pierce plays poker, punished. Space Jam 2 trailer drops, March Madness is over, and Ryan Garcia signs on to fight Javier Fortuna.
We talk the 1971 Stanley Kubrick "cult classic" A Clockwork Orange starring Malcolm McDowell. In an England of the future, Alex and his "Droogs" spend their nights getting high at the Korova Milkbar before embarking on "a little of the old ultraviolence." But things go from bad to worse and Alex is placed in a new psychiatric program for delinquents and prisoners, and tortured to stop his violent ways.
In this week's episode, we take a look at Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange, which currently sits at #103 on IMDB's Top 250 movies. This "ultra-violent" film stars Malcolm McDowell as Alex, a schoolboy who prowls the night with his Droogs committing crimes. In this episode, we discuss the crazy language and dialect used within the film, we figure out Ben's odd fetish for watching things backward, and Zach tests our knowledge on how psycho Stanley Kubrick is in his latest Trivia Quiz. Stanley Kubrick's controversial, thought-provoking, tremendously stylish A Clockwork Orange, now a mere 48 years young, bludgeons its way back into cinemas this weekend. And so Chris Hewitt jumped at the chance to interview its star - the king of the Droogs himself, Malcolm McDowell. In this extended interview, they discuss McDowell's complicated and ever-changing relationship with the film, and with Kubrick himself; why Gene Kelly gave McDowell the cold shoulder; and what it's like to get a real injection up the bum on camera. Hint: painful. Then, they briefly discuss McDowell's Time After Time, before - because Chris can't resist - getting deep into McDowell's lifelong support of Liverpool FC. Poddy well, my brothers and sisters. Poddy well.

Dirigenten Stefan Solyom som just dirigerat stycket berättar. Hur gick hans tankar, egentligen?
