In this special episode of Tee'd Off, Ben and Aaron sit down with long time Myrtle Beach Golf veteran and new President of Volvik USA, Pete Kinney! Pete started his career in Myrtle Beach in 1990 as the Assistant Professional at Waterway Hills, a former popular course located on Restaurant Row. Known for it's signature gondola ride across the Intracoastal Waterway to and from the course, Pete said that manning the gondola once a week was the greatest bag boy position in town! To fuel his love for the game and to make ends meet, Pete also worked at a mini-golf course in the evenings, and even provided the famous 49 cent grip changes at Golf Dimensions! After stops at Sea Trail and Tidewater golf clubs, Pete scored his first Head Professional job at Beachwood Golf Club in 1996. During this time, Pete was involved in the inception of the Tee Time Network in the Myrtle Beach area, which was one of the first network-based tee times systems in the country! Over the next 20 years, Pete shifted into the corporate realm of the golf industry, gaining a wealth of experience in the apparel and equipment sectors with senior sales positions at major brands including TaylorMade, Slazenger, Cleveland, Bridgestone, Golf Galaxy, and Ralph Lauren. During his time with these brands, Pete became obsessed with the development and innovations of the golf ball. In 2023, Pete interviewed for a senior sales position with Volvik. His knowledge for the industry, golf ball manufacturing, and the genuine grass roots tales of his career were more than impactful, and Pete accepted the position of President of Volvik USA in August of 2023! With an impressive list of accomplishments spanning 4 decades, Pete coined this amazing opportunity with Volvik as his, "last job," but that in no way defines the ferocity and pace at which he has taken to bring a resurgence to the brand. With 13 balls in their lineup, and nearly a dozen special edition balls, Volvik is bringing the word FUN to performance on the links! Pete showed the Tee'd Off crew their new Deadpool gift set to be released with the much-anticipated 3rd film, and he also dropped a bombshell on a new partnership with Disney! With vastly popular franchises such as Cars, Monsters Inc., and Toy Story, be on the lookout for some special edition Volvik balls showcasing your favorite Disney Character. Ben and Aaron hoped that Star Wars balls would soon be available, and Pete intimated that a deal with Lucas Films is not out of the question. How cool would a Darth Vader ball be?! In addition to providing fun, Volvik is looking to tee it up for a cause; their Vista3 Pink 360 BCRF ball gives $1 to each dozen sold for the Breast Cancer Research Fund, a initiative that not only seeks for a cure, but for ways to reduce recurrence of cancer in survivors. Pete and Volvik are off to a wonderful start reshaping the Volvik brand and we cannot wait to see what's next!Being a person of authority in the golf ball sector, we could not help but ask for Pete's feedback on the golf ball rollback. From the perspective of a PGA Member and Volvik President, Pete is against the rollback, but promises that Volvik will push the envelope of what is possible and maximum the performance of their balls, regardless of any restrictions. In a very special segment of Tee'd Off, Pete shared hilarious stories about Gary McCord, David Feherty, and Tiger Woods! You will have to tune in to hear these amazing stories! The package of the episode is the Myrtle Beach Golf Trail Replay Package, where you can get great prebooked replay discounts on nearly 30 of the top courses in Myrtle Beach! The accommodations of the episode is the Blue Water Keyes in North Myrtle Beach. This oceanfront resort offers some of the most luxurious 2, 3, and 4 bedroom condos in the area, with large floorplans and great bedding options for your next Myrtle Beach golf trip!

Our guest is Director of Merchandising for GolfBalls.com, Johnny Cox who plays different golf balls all the time so that he can make educated recommendations to his customers. In this conversation, we cover the new releases from Titleist, Bridgestone, Callaway, Wilson, TaylorMade, and Volvik. They have a brand new, premium tour ball that is fantastic. we've played it and like it A LOT! Hey. Remember. During this Covid-19 crisis, Do NOT touch anyone's balls. And wash your hands well after touching your own balls. We read that advice on a sign at our favorite golf course. And in the bonus content for this week, we set the wayback machine for this weekend in 2016 when we talked to Bill Twong about his Tee system that worked on the same physics as a billiard ball to always produce a straight shot. Not all ground is the same. Not even bunkers. Not all sand is the same. What part of the beach are you on? The light fluffy sand? The sand where a little water hits and it's dry but a bit packed? Or are you on the sand that is hard-packed? And don't get me started on types of grass. You see, it really matters what kind of ground is under your feet to help determine what kind of a shot you should use. Jeff gives you insight into how to make those choices. Also, we interview Wes Wittingham from Volvik on how the golf ball you choose reacts to these different conditions. So, if you are as confused as the rest of us, listen to this episode for some clarification

Holly and Jeff talk about the recent success of Dustin Johnson. The final leader board from the WGC showed good showings for Spieth, Kevin Chappell, Scott Piercy and Matt Kuchar. Jeff points out that Chappell has placed second a number of times this season on the Tour and is waiting for him to break through with a win. With the British Open only two weeks ago Holly G talks about the recent play from Zach Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, Charl Schwartzel and Branden Grace. Holly asks Jeff about Jason Day's final four holes at the WGC Bridgestone when he handed the tournament over to whoever was trailing him. Kevin talks with Jeff about Dustin Johnson's potential of becoming #1 in the OWGR. Jeff didn't think that DJ would overcome Spieth. It'll take one big victory and another victory before Day can finish well which will allow DJ to catch Day. Holly asks Jeff who he's keeping his eye on as potential winners of the Open Championship: Jeff says McIlroy and Stenson. In the third segment Holly G talks with Kevin and Will about the LPGA's U.S. Women's Open this week and the stars like Brooke Henderson, Lydia Ko, Gernia Piller and Ariya Jutanugarn's performances this season making the LPGA even more exciting than usual. Jon Claffey, National Director/Sales and Marketing at Volvik USA INC., calls in to wrap up the show and talk to Holly G, Will and Kevin about the success of Volvik Golf Balls and the Inaugural LPGA event the Volvik Championship in Michigan with more than 30,000 people come event. Holly G is in the studio with Will Perry, social media guru EVVUS, and co host Kevin Sternett, assistant pro at Golden Bear Club at Keene's Point. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, from TPC calls in to start the show and talks about James Hahn's amazing struggle to win on the PGA Tour prior to him capturing last week's PGA Tour event title. Holly discusses with Bob Hahn's honest comments after his win at press conference. Hahn had 8 straight missed cuts and he started to question himself and his abilities. Then all of that changed in one tournament when he broke through and not only made the cut but won. Bob says that the media often covers the winners and their lifestyles but tend to forget the fragile nature of game and there are some low moments for some of these guys. He said that followers of the game become numb to private planes, expensive lifestyles that some of the Tour players enjoy. Hahn actually quit and went back working what an amazing story and a really good win for the game of golf! HG asks Bob about Jordan Spieth and The Players being Spieth's first tournament since the Masters. Bob said that unfortunately going forward that part of Jordan's legacy will be the major he didn't win. Bob points out that last year after Spieth won the Masters, he missed the cut at the Players Championship so he wants to get back on track after finishing second at Augusta, taking a break, not he is really busy from here on out with consecutive tournaments. Although Rory McIlroy would like to win The Players, the course really doesn't suit him. Bob's pick is Henrik Stenson. Once again, Volvik is The Golf Insiders' product of the month. Volvik's new Vivid ball is the first matte golf ball. Put some color in your game and play one of the Volvik golf balls. Holly talks about the island green on the infamous 17th hole at the TPC Sawgrass. Dr. Dan Vosgerichian Ph.D., Elite Sports Performance out of Jacksonville, Fla. calls in to break down the mental aspect of playing the hole. Dan has worked as a professional caddie at TPC Sawgrass, Home of The Players Championship, as well as an assistant to Florida State University's PGA Professional Golf Management Program. Garry Smits, Florida Times Union, calls in to talk to the trio about the many, many potential contenders, the big names in golf, but the course doesn't really favor any particular style. Garry feels that basically the guy who hits greens and makes a few putts wins this tournament. There are 144 guys in the tournament who are recent Tour winners, the top 125 on FedEx Cup and the guys who are the Top 50 in the world, etc. so everybody in this field have played well in the past two years and are a threat to win. Holly finishes the hour out talking to Golfweek's Lance Ringler who calls in to talk about the latest in collegiate golf with both the women and the men's. BYU made the tournament and they have an agreement with the NCAA about not competing on Sundays. Lance wrote and article for Golfweek about it. Used to not be a problem, but since TV is part of the format and there are 6 days of competition, Sunday is right in the middle. So BYU will play after practice on Thursday and that will actually Sunday's hole location. So their first round is actually their first round. So they can have Sunday off. Kevin talks to Lance about the fact that it might seem unfair for BYU to be able to play without any other players playing from other schools. But Lance said other teams are going to be able to watch them from outside the ropes.

Holly G is in the studio with Will Perry, social media guru EVVUS, and co host Kevin Sternett, assistant pro at Golden Bear Club at Keene's Point. The trio start the show talking about playing in the iHeartMedia Golf Tournament earlier in the week. Brian Stuard wins the rain-shortened Monday finish of the Zurich Classic in New Orleans. This is Stuard's first win on the Tour. This is Stuard's 5th year on the Tour. Volvik is The Golf Insiders' new product of the month. Volvik's new Vivid ball is the first matte golf ball. Global Golf Post's Mike Purkey calls in from Charlotte the site of the Wells Fargo. Next week is The Players Championship. Rory McIlroy is a two-time champion at the Wells Fargo. Holly talks to Mike about Phil Mickelson and if he has said anything since his play since The Masters. Mike said that some of Phil's issues might be that he is getting older and focusing each and every shot. Jim Furyk returns to the Tour after being off for an extended time due to injury. Holly asks Mike about Furyk. He is also a former champion at the Wells Fargo. The trio also discuss the upcoming Players Championship, The Open Championship and who the course might favor. Mike thinks Adam Scott will do well at The Players Championship if he can putt well. Mike feels that Jordan and Rory McIroy will battle to the end at Oakmont for the U.S. Open Championship. He feels that Jordan will do well as the tough putting conditions at Oakmont. Holly asks Mike about Jordan Spieth's recent comments, some of the first he's made since the Masters. Mike feels that the recent vacation would definitely help Spieth get over giving the Green Jacket. Mike makes that point if you stop and think, Spieth has almost won the last five major championships and he's only 22 years old. Todd Lewis, The Golf Channel, calls in from the Wells Fargo to talk about the weather conditions in North Carolina. Todd says the Quail Hollow course has taken on about 3 1/2 inches of rain. Todd said that even though there has been a lot of rain, the course has the ability to vacuum the water with the subterranean drainage system. Holly asks Todd about his chatting with Phil Mickelson early today. Phil loves Quail Hollow like he likes Augusta. She also asks about Rory. Todd spoke with him yesterday about Rory playing well but not winning yet. Rory said that this year reminds him of 2014 when he played well the beginning of the year and then started winning a lot after his first win which was the Open Championship and then followed it up with the win in the United States going on to be the Player of the Year. Holly asks Todd about Adidas announcing that its board has decided to sell of its golf business including TaylorMade, Adams and Ashworth. One of the issues might be that TaylorMade is so successful and is launching products too close together. The newest at the beginning of the year might end up on the discount rack before that calendar year is out after TaylorMade launches the next best piece of equipment in that category. Todd feels that the business model that TM was following might have done them in. Holly talks with Todd about the recent news of Tiger hitting balls recently. Todd feels that Todd needs to play in Colonial since the Driver is not needed as much. It would be good for Tiger and good for the event. For the final segment of the show, Kevin's long time friend Fran Southern, certified teaching professional and the creator of the new Junior Prep Golf Tour in Orlando talks about the new tour for junior golfers. Fran attended all of his son's Lake Brantley High School golf tournaments for the three years his son played. Fran made some observations over the years and found that there were not a lot of places for the young golfers to play after the high school season ended. So when his son graduated, he started the JPGT in Orlando. It combines instruction with Instruction and combined practice clinics and weekend tournaments. The Tour's first session is May 10 and will run into the end of July. Special introductory price for listeners is $99. The regular price is $150. Boys and Girls ages 12-18 are invited to sign up. The tournaments will be played on a rotational basis at Dubsdred Golf Course, Deer Run Country Club, Wekiva Golf Club and Eagle Dunes Golf Club. For more information, visit www.jpgtorlando.com.

Holly G is in the studio and starts off the show with a quick recap the week in golf including Justin Thomas' first win on the PGA Tour. Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in to start the show and talk about the world of golf with Holly G. Bob said that even though he hasn't been a proponent of the wrap around season, he does admit that it has been a very interesting start to the new season with the different first time winners. Jordan Spieth is playing in his first tournament in about a month. Spieth said it was his longest break from golf since he was 12 years old. Bob talks with Holly about Jordan's busy schedule and how he manages his schedule going into 2016 as the reigning FedEx Cup champion. Holly mentions that Victor Dubuisson captured a win on the European Tour and what that means for the player who gave up his PGA Tour and is now focusing mainly on the European Tour. Holly asks Bob about Stevie Williams book that recently was released. Williams was the caddie for many years for Tiger Woods and lately Adam Scott. Bob said that Steve is a heck of a caddie and has been complemented by everyone he has caddied for. Bob said that it is a shame that Stevie has held on to a grudge for so long when there was so much good to talk about with he and Tiger's great teamwork and the success they had for all of those years. Bob talks about all the things that seem petty that Stevie focused on. Probably some good insight that might be being overlooked because of the Tiger comments that have gained so much attention. There are a lot of guys who go through caddies many times. The most successes have been the golfers who have stuck with the same guy and has been a good fit over the years. Bob also added that even the best relationships between player and caddie that come to an end. Mental Conditioning Coach Dr Bob Winters, David Leadbetter Academy, joins Holly G in the studio for the rest of the show. Holly asks Bob about the success of some of his players of late. Dr Bob said that 3 of the top 5, including the first and second place finishers, in the recent Latin American tournament have been or are students of his. What is it that keeps fear out of some of the great players during pressure packed situations? Composure with repeated exposure. Thomas double bogeyed the 14th and caddie Jimmy Johnson was able to keep Justin in the moment. Made three birdies and a clutch five footer to end up winning. Steve Eubanks, Global Golf Post, calls in to talk to Dr Bob and Holly G, calls in to speak with the duo about China banning golf for all of its members. "Until you go over and see it and see the reaction that the Asian fans especially when the LPGA players are there is something to see," he said. Holly mentions that Volvik is sponsoring a new event over Memorial Day weekend in the next year. Steve comments that there are a lot of Korean companies who are actively involved with the LPGA. Steve said that the television audience when Korean players are in contention are twice the numbers in the USA and sometimes three times as much. East Lake Cup at the Atlanta Golf Club. The Top 4 collegiate men and women's teams to play against one another. Illinois beat Georgia on the men's side and UCLA beat Duke on the women's side. Holly and Steve talk about the Charles Schwab Cup at Desert Mountain this week. Bernhard Langer, Colin Montgomerie and Jay Haas are in a three way run for the title. Almost every week this season Monty and Langer have been at the top of the leader board in almost every Champions Tour event that they played in this year. Steve and Holly talk about the upcoming Race to the CME Globe on the LPGA Tour and some of the players in the hunt, like defending champion Lydia Ko. Steve talks about Ko's maturity and how she handles herself in every circumstance. Her game is amazing on top of that. Dr Bob Winters talks about Lydia and spending time with her at the David Leadbetter Academy. Lydia has a presence about her and doesn't forget any of the little people and is gracious in all settings whether winning or losing. Tony Judge, Clubs To Hire, calls in to talk with Holly G and Dr Bob about the newest location of his company in the Orlando. Clubs To Hire, originated in Europe and hires or rents a full set of clubs to a golfer for a week at a time to save them the expense of putting a golfer's own clubs on the airplane. Whether a golfing holiday with friends or family or business trips, Clubs To Hire saves golfers the hassle of bringing their own personal clubs through busy airport terminals, waiting for them at excess luggage, paying extreme carriage charges and then worrying about them possibly being stolen or damaged.
