Beyond great quality, what factors have made Whispering Angel so successful? Key Takeaways Rosé wine is made from red wine grapes, and it's the skin that gives color and tannin to the wine. If you let the wine ferment with the skin, you end up with a red wine. Rosé wine was produced as an afterthought, rather than with the intention to make it. This is part of why Rosé has had a bad reputation because it's been considered a byproduct. Marcel Ott was fascinated by Rosé wine because he thought that this was a wine that had the taste of the grapes most precisely. Marcel Ott was the first one to choose the variety of grapes that gave the best Rosé, to position the vineyards in the best possible way to make good Rosé and to choose the harvest time with the ambition to make the best possible Rosé. Grenache is a grape with thin skins and very little pigment so it brings little color to the wine. This is the kind of Rosé wine that is the most trendy these years. It's pale, dry, crisp wine, what we call the Provence style. But also, Grenache has this natural sweetness that applies well to the Rosé wine category as well. Rosé, with its beautiful colour in a transparent, creatively designed bottle, looks great on the shelves in the liquor store. It looks good on Instagram. And I think this is a part of the popularity of Rosé. At the same time, it's also a reason why the bad reputation of Rosé wine remains with some of the wine establishment. At the same time, it's much easier to recycle brown glass than clear glass. About Rasmus Emborg & Jens Honoré Rasmus Emborg is a journalist who has worked in the media industry for over 25 years. He is the author of Beer Brothers (2019), about twin beer brewers Mikkel Borg-Bjergsø and Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø. He and his wife own a small vineyard in Provence. The grapes are mainly used for rosé wine, and the production takes place at a local cooperative. Jens Honoré is a photographer who has worked in the advertising industry for 30 years. In 2018, he published A Place to Dream for SOS Children's Villages, and in partnership with Jens Vilstrup, he published the book, Farewell to a Black/White World about the UN's 2015 Sustainable Development Goals. He has also contributed to Building a Dream about LEGO owner Kjeld Kirks Kristiansen's realization of LEGO House. In 2021, he published The Right to Food about homeless people's relationship with food. Here's the concept: we sit down with a creative personality, pour some wine and get to talking about the creative subjects that interest them, and what makes these creatives tick. This time is a bit of an international edition, as we interview two Europeans. So in case your summer doesn't include a wine-drenched European vacation, this is almost a substitute. How do male and female creatives differ? What shapes a person, and makes them choose a creative life? What makes a creative choose to live in a certain place? You're about to find out. Part 1: We pour a glass of Alexandre Cyrus Cabernet Sauvignon and chat with Max J. Van Praag. This dapper self-described Renaissance man is a polyglot who speaks five languages fluently, grew up in an artistic, international household, and practices several artistic media including music and the culinary arts. What made the peripatetic Van Praag choose to settle down in Marin County, California? It's a magical formula having to do with the light, the energy, and the creative possibilities. After all, Marin County, California's rare mix of natural beauty, climate, and proximity to San Francisco has attracted numerous artists, writers, musicians, and all other varieties of creative entrepreneur. You'll notice we keep Max's actual job a mystery. That's intentional. In an era where "what do you do?" seems to be acceptable cocktail party conversation, Max is adamant about not wishing to be defined by his job but rather by his numerous, constantly evolving passions. (35 minutes) Part 2: At the 35 minute mark, we pour glasses of Whispering Angel rose and meet Nathalie Guillerault, the architect and interior designer behind Dock One Studio, a Marin County based design firm that creatives artful, harmonious spaces by focusing on the experience of being in a space, and using that space. For Nathalie, it's not just about decorating, it's more fundamental than that. Nathalie discusses how her upbringing in Europe formed her artistic and creative philosophies, how her creativity was discouraged by her parents at first because architecture was considered a "male" or "masculine" career, what life as a female architect looks like, and how she fosters creativity in her own children. Nathalie also makes her home in Marin County, and takes the Creative Happy Hour team through her decision to leave France and settle down in Marin. (55 min)

Kelly McInerney (IMDWeed, AfterBuzz, stand-up) joins Shaughn and Ellen to whine about people bailing on plans and lack of follow through in Los Angeles. They pair it with 2015 Isabelle and Bruno Perraud Petillant Naturel Gamay "Happy Bulles" they found at Vinovore. Ellen's hips sip tip is a 2012 Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Meunier from Oregon. Shaughn's is a 1967 Zinfandel! It beats out Ellen's 2008 Zin for age but the lesson is this: get some old zin! They whine about how everyone is always trying to play catch-up with everyone and then...nobody catches up. Shaughn and Ellen explain what a "pet nat" is--a wine bottled before it finishes fermenting. The wine with no follow through! As always they end up discussing Miraval and Whispering Angel while playing what's in the glass. This wine had hints of blueberry and Yankee Candle. The conversation veers into weed talk--how to indulge (disposable vapes), who's ordering it on the go (Kelly delivers it!), and all agree smoking cigarettes is really no good. They all make plans to smoke weed and head to the movies for Kelly's podcast. The lightning round becomes a bizarre game of charades as it covers other terms for petillant naturel, if pet nats can be rosé, what the oldest kind of sparkling wine is, and what the name of their particular bottle's closure is.
