The Tiny Desk is working from home for the foreseeable future. Introducing NPR Music's Tiny Desk (home) concerts, bringing you performances from across the country and the world. It's the same spirit — stripped-down sets, an intimate setting — just a different space. Bobby Carter | October 26, 2021 Decked in a hoodie, cargo pants and coveted sneakers, a slimmed-down and clean-shaven Ed Sheeran stands surrounded by bookshelves and a host of world-class musicians. He's flanked by music director to the stars, Adam Blackstone, who assembled the band and handled bass guitar duties. After opening this Tiny Desk (home) concert with his latest single, “Shivers,” Sheeran introduces himself and proceeds with more hits, new tunes, and a surprise throwback. The English singer-songwriter may appear acclimated to a live band, but it's a pretty rare occasion. For more than a decade, Sheeran's become revered for ripping down stadiums, but usually (and remarkably) it's just him, a guitar and loop pedals. The material released so far from his upcoming album, = (out Oct. 29), leans heavily into the '80s pop sphere and provides glimpses into Sheeran's personal life during his time away. Here, he debuts “Overpass Graffiti,” an uptempo ode to the endurance of long love. “Visiting Hours” is a heartfelt dedication to his close friend and mentor, Australian record executive Michael Gudinski, who passed away in March. Although most of the setlist honors =, Sheeran veers momentarily to take us to church with 2014's “Make It Rain” from the TV show Sons of Anarchy. The choir only takes up a smidgen of physical real estate, but their voices manage to engulf the entire space, propelling the song to another stratosphere. He closes the performance with a quiet storm version of his summer single “Bad Habits.” SET LIST * “Shivers” * “Make It Rain” * “Overpass Graffiti” * “Visiting Hours” * “Bad Habits” MUSICIANS * Adam Blackstone: musical director/bass * Terence Vaughn: keys * Tim Stewart: guitar * Clay Sears: guitar * Brian Frasier-Moore: drums * Rayfield Holloman: pedal steel guitar * Whitney Smith: vocals * Raphael Smith: vocals * Melissa Best: vocals * Antia Coach: vocals * Melany Watson: vocals * Kyron Elcock: vocals * Raymond Mason: trombone * Michael Leonhart: trumpet * Sam Greenfield: saxophone CREDITS * Video: Chadrick Fellers, Jeremy Ivory-Chambers, Porous Porousfreak * Audio: Tyrell Ace Clark, James Hardy-Martin, Douglas Touré Harris TINY DESK TEAM * Producer: Bobby Carter * Video Producer: Kara Frame * Audio Mastering: Josh Rogosin * Tiny Production Team: Bob Boilen, Bobby Carter, Maia Stern, Sofie Hernandez-Simeonidis * Executive Producer: Keith Jenkins * Senior VP, Programming: Anya Grundmann #tinydesk #nprmusic #edsheeran Team UNPLUGGED.

Good Morning it's Saturday April 24th, and this is The Wenatchee World's newest podcast, Slices of Wenatchee. We're excited to bring you a closer look at one of our top stories and other announcements every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Today - East Wenatchee Police Chief Rick Johnson has proposed adding a resource officer to Eastmont High School. He says this would provide much more than just an extra sense of security on campus. This episode is brought to you by Equilus Group Incorporated. Equilus Group, Inc is a Registered Investment Advisory Firm in the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. East Wenatchee Police Chief Rick Johnson has proposed adding a resource officer to Eastmont High School. He says the move would provide much more than just an extra sense of security on campus. Johnson says that having a positive relationship with the police department is essential to increasing public safety locally. In fact, he's looking at creative ways to reach out to the public in a positive way instead of just responding when things are bad. According to Johnson a school resource officer, or SRO is the single biggest way the police department can impact the most people at a time in their life when they are making opinions of police. On April 12th, he told the school board that the program gets sold sometimes as a deterrent for violent crime. And yes, it absolutely is, but Johnson thinks that it's not necessarily the most important role for an SRO. A resource officer is building relationships that otherwise would not exist. They're not just a cop to students. They are a public safety advocate, a mentor, a public safety professional, and a counselor. In his proposal, Johnson said the school district would have a huge role in the selection process of the SRO. They'd only move forward if they could find the right person for the job. The salary would be $80,952, and Johnson hopes to have the SRO ready for January 2022. But not everyone on the school board was… on board. Whitney Smith asked why the school district needs a resource officer when police could come to campus anytime. Again, Johnson expressed that as public safety professionals, the mission is public safety. But an SRO on the other hand, their mission is just that of an individual campus. East Wenatchee Mayor Jerrilea Crawford said she and Johnson have been working to reestablish the positive relationship within the community -- and not only for the police department but for the city as a whole. It's unclear at this point when the school board will continue the conversation about the SRO, but the budget is scheduled to be adopted later this summer on July 12. And several years ago, Superintendent Garn Christensen said the school board made a decision to add two SROs. But the board didn't know if the funds would be available to maintain the program, so they put it on hold. And this year, due to COVID, they didn't know if they'd even have students on campus. That, and a change in city leadership. So we once again the program was postponed. But Christensen says that now with Chief Johnson here, he has a proposal that the board reconsider. Johnson, who is completing his 10th month at the East Wenatchee Police Department, began his presentation to the board talking about all the changes he's made at the agency. He noted they've implemented an internal training program for staff in crisis intervention, patrol tactics, de-escalation, use of force, domestic violence law updates, active shooter response, first aid, emergency vehicle operations and defensive tactics. Why? According to Johnson, historically the East Wenatchee Police Department had a reputation of not training to the same level as the other agencies in the area. The goal is to be on par if not surpass them. He also added that East Wenatchee Police will have body cameras on all commissioned staff. This week - 26 year old Isabel Bedolla, a Child and Family therapist at the Children's Home Society of Washington. After graduating from Washington State University with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2016, Bedolla returned to the Wenatchee Valley to start her career. She went on to complete her master's degree in clinical counseling from Bellevue University in November 2020. She worked for four years as a victim advocate at SAGE, a nonprofit that supports survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and child victims of violence. Bedolla was one of the first and only bilingual forensic interviewers, building bridges in the community by creating partnerships with populations that traditionally have had no visibility or access to services. She also served on the executive board in organizing SAGE's fundraising gala, “Enchanted Evening”. The Gala helps the organization continue its free services. As part of her master's program, she also completed a clinical internship at Children's Home Society of Washington. Her goal was to become a licensed mental health counselor, one of only 5.5% of psychologists nationally who can provide mental health care services in Spanish. And now, she's working at Children's Home Society of Washington as a child and family therapist. When we asked Bedolla what she's proud of she told us that her biggest accomplishments at SAGE were always related to clients. She was in a special position where she got to see someone at their most vulnerable and then ultimately see them flourish with time. Bedolla also got the opportunity to work with different populations and different age groups, which challenged her to learn new ways on how to offer services to each individual client. She's proud of the community that she serves. Bedolla told us that she's been asked on multiple occasions why she doesn't broaden her horizons and move out of the valley. But working with the community here has given her a chance to see that there is always an opportunity to make the community stronger. We also asked what inspires her, and she said that from an early age her dad always told her that if she wanted to achieve something, then she needed to put the time and energy toward it. And now, what continues to inspire Bedolla is for other children to see that they are capable of being successful too. Being Hispanic, she hopes that she can motivate others to pursue their dreams of their own. BedollaI wants to see more diversity in all professions because that gives children the ability to think to themselves, “that could be me one day.” Now, some history… Did you know that the Wenatchee Youth Circus was founded in 1952 by Paul K. Pugh? Known as the biggest little circus in the world, it's one of the top non-professional circus troupes in the US. For almost seventy years, they've traveled the country and played shows to over 2 million people. While the kids who perform in the circus often go on to other careers, many have turned pro with Ringling Brothers, Cirque du Soleil, and more. In 2017 they were featured in the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. - Thanks for listening. Today's episode is brought to you by Equilus Group, Inc- Building Your Financial Success.

TRIBUTE TO KENYA MOORE Good news everyone, Kenya Moore is back!! ACT ONE Opening montage Shep is like Baloo guiding mowgli. Lost, passed out half the time. ELIZA Eliza works at a hotel. They seem to do everything on paper… do they have computers? Eliza’s mother who is consumed by her turtleneck, criticizes eliza’s hair clip. No no, I don’t need another Dale!! Eliza is hosting a fox hunt Eliza’s boyfriend is 14 years older but he doesnt seem that bad? Also this story is way more interesting than anything else… daughter of rich parents, her dad is a gross perv, she wants to marry someone she loves and not some super rich person. NAOMIE AND CAMERON Cameron fills Naomi in that Craig feels like they didnt have closure. Intercut with Shep and Craig catching up about the party, as Craig and Shep stare into the sun. Shep says Craig and Naomie should be able to look back on their relationship with reverence. Can anyone do that…? Is Shep delusional? Most ex’s don’t do that. ACt 2 Kathryn shows up for bar method with Austen and Chelsea. Austen shows up and says Namaste yall. People are so fucking stupid. Austen is suffering during the stretching. He is made of beer. He is a human glass of beer. Is Kathryn working out in a pink cardigan? Kathryn seems like a cold girlfriend. They finish and discuss craig’s meltdown at the party. Austen said they continued like nothing ever happened. Austen said women hold on to fights, guys have memories of a goldfish. No. Craig was doing theatrics for the camera and was never really mad. Chelsea brings up skeet shooting at Eliza’s. Chelsea wonders if Ashley will show up at Eliza’s since they’re friends? Somehow Kathryn won’t be there because she has her brother’s wedding. ELIZA CALLS ASHLEY IN THE CAR Ashley’s voice is so weird and smooth. It’s so lifelike even though she’s not in the scene. Ashley tells Eliza they broke up. If they’re friends wouldnt she know? Ashley says tehy broke up ebcause of the allegations and Thomas couldnt play polo in california, and that’s what made it so hard for them. Eliza says she wants Ashley to come make peace. This makes me like Eliza waaaay less. Ashley is the kind of dark and negative that shouldn’t be given a spot on TV. She is deeply unhinged. Eliza is the Stephanie Pratt of this show. She’s young, beautiful, totally innocent, but also does really dumb things but then wonders why her life the way it is. ACT 3 Cameron walks in and asks for a table for three. I remember shooting this show called Styl’d for MTV and they needed someone to stand in as a host at the restaurant, and I volunteered to do it but it was so uncomfortable and I froze up. You wouldnt think you would, but I had no idea what to say. What I love about southern charm is they always order REAL food. Fried food, Nachos, beer… Shep tells Cameron that Craig is totally over Naomie. Craig will say anything to anyone… that makes him a not interesting character, not to mention a total weirdo. Naomie arrives, orders a corona light, and a corn bisque, and a fried goat cheese salad with shrimp. Get it Naomie. Cameron WOLFS down food. Every moment she’s free she just goes to town and its kind of hilarious. Cameron wants Naomie to come to Colorado. Shep insists that Craig knows it’s over. Shep said Craig said “I’m happy for her.” and Shep thinks that’s big. It’s not… Naomie says Metul would be uncomfortable if Naomie went on the trip. Cameron says: You can’t start your relationship with parameters… WHAT?! Going on a trip with her ex who is unhinged?! These are not unhealthy parameters! It’s not even a parameter, it’s her boyfriend being uncomfortable with him going with her ex. And by the way cameron, your husband isn’t even on the show. I dont know how that is related but it annoys me so much, so it is. CRAIG AUSTEN MEET UP AT PATRICIA’S Whitney is such a misfit in this group with his stupid glasses and his pretentious outfits. He’s like 75 years old. He’s like a prodcer that’s lingering in the shot. Lets take a moment and red some of the review of Whitney’s movie on halston: In sartorial terms, the fabric is to die for, but helmer Whitney Sudler-Smith's docu follows a banal pattern, while the finishing lacks finesse. ---VARIETY MAGAZINE. JUST today and episode was on where Whitney wanted to open a bar in season 1 and Pat called it Banal. WAs she citing this article?? It's unfortunate that director Whitney Sudler-Smith seems to have spent more time on his own hair than his interview prep. --NEW YORK POST [It's directed by] an unknown amateur named Whitney Sudler-Smith who looks a bit like Julian Assange and seems almost surprised to be making a film at all. THE INDEPENDENT Halston's name is in the title, but the faintly irritating Ultrasuede isn't necessarily about the fashion designer. It's about director Whitney Sudler-Smith I want to believe that Whitney Sudler-Smith, the director and camera-hogging "presenter" of Ultrasuede: In Search Of Halston, is some kind of Bruno-like parody of a fashion victim. He's too gloriously, self- importantly inept to be real, surely? The TIMES UK A ghastly vanity affair for one Whitney Smith, the son of a socialite who, despite minimal credits to his name, feels entitled to make Halston's story his own. --village voice 35% ROTTEN TOMATOES Austen calls Craig an irish witch. Craig says he’s dutch… ACT FOUR Old man tells someone working the party: don’t worry about the robins they’re just a harbinger of spring. Eliza has an issue with the texture of beans? I’ve never heard of this. Eliza tells us that the house used to belong to her grandmother’s ancestor. The original house burned down, and then very defensively she goes, “Not because of Sherman.” I feel like that’s how they all talk down there. My house burned down… but not because of any yankee soldja!!! Twas a candle that burnt my house down! Eliza talks about how the hosue was rebuilt… she tells this story in such an odd way as if she just learned it while filming the interivew. Naomie and Chelsea arrive. Naomie innocently says, “I always like to imagine what happened here like 200 years ago at this moment.. Ya know???” a friend says “Probably not good shit.” The awkwardness of these plantation parties mixed with super upbeat music as if we wouldn’t make the connection… this is the dark underbelly of southern charm. This girl MAdison who owns Gwynns where KAtherine gets all her horrible clothes… she is impossibly orange. Shep’s hat is HORRIBLE. The boys arrive. Whitney says ‘hey baby doll…” ugh. Skeet shooting makes me so much more comfortable than fox hunting or hunting for birds. Austen can’t shoot. Chelsea says, “That’s so disappointing.” I feel like their relationship was just her being like, You’re just not man enough. Cam takes craig aside and reminds him about how he was behaving at the oyster roast. Why is craig so tired? Why is he so mumbly? Does he smile ever? Naomie walks up and asks if he wants to talk. IT’S SO AWKWARD. Craig says he would hate if she missed the ski trip because of him. Naomie said it would be a slap in the face to Metul if she went, and she heard Craig is not over her. Craig said they didnt have normal closure and they just walked away one day. Flashback to Naomie and her old nose just walking away. Craig admits he is depressed and he’s trying to get his mind off stuff. FINALLY things are coming together. Craig admits he doesn’t know how to move on. Flashback to Craig giving Naomie a ring and saying it’s a token of the fact that he wants to be with her ‘fowever.’ ugh. Craig says he’s really happy for her even though he looks SO annoyed to say it. Aomie says it’s nice talking to him as a normal person. Craig’s face is like ‘so there’s a chance..’ ACT 5 Chelsea asks what time Ashley is coming. Eliza says teh christian thing to do is make peace. Ashley arrives. The girls do a big fake scream which is weird. Ashley anxiously catches up with Shep. Everyone is fake talking. Also, Eliza, get up and greet her! She’s just making her walk towards everyone. Chelsea watches and goes: This is great. Flashback of Danni going toe to toe with Ashley, and Ashley just goes enabler enabler repeatedly. Shep asks Ashley if she’s still with thomas, she goes: just dive right into it, geez! That was the worst year of my life. Maybe i need a cocktail first hahaha! ...no i’m not with him. Naomie asks Austen to get a drink because she’s scared. Austen says I am too! I love that Naomie is deeply afraid of her because she’s never afraid of anyone. Whitney confronts her about what she said about Pat. Ashley said she’s almost 80. You’d think she would know better. Whitney CANNOT handle himself. He turns to Shep’s cousin who makes an awkward face and waits for him to respond. Eliza is literally just watching the two of them arguing. Shep says Eliza is to blame for her being here. Ashley approaches danni and nuzzles up against her. Dannis surprised. Ashley just wants to be friendly. This overly tan friend looks like Luann’s daughter Victoria. Ashley: I never want to hurt anyone. I never want to be hurt. I’m a nurse but… I need to empathize more. Madison: But.. in social media you’re still talking shit about her. Ashley: Well… I don’t really wanna get into that madison. So, I’m just gonna just say, just keep your mouth shut. Ashley immediately denies that she said shut your mouth. Ashley leaves to get a drink and says thanks for talking with me. This is going well.. Act 6 Ashley comes and sits next to Chelsea and says, I’ll just come say hi to you guys. They’re shocked. Ashley pleasantly says, I’ve just never gotten a chance to see Charleston alone! Cameron: Why did you tweet the other week that we were all losers? I love this barrage of flashes to tweets as people bring them up one by one. Shep: There’s shit doing down over there. Craig: Of course Austen is with the girls. Oh shut up craig! You can’t be so judgey when you SEW!!! Also Austen is getting more camera time so joke son you Ashley says that Pat purposely used her to get back at Kathryn. THIS i believe. I dont trust pat as far as i can throw her. Eliza is an idiot. There is no way Ashley doesn’t like this day to day. Ashley wishes things could’ve been different because she wonders how different their friendships could’ve been. She means being on the show. Austen interjects that he doesn’t buy any of it. Ashley: I wanted to make it right with you naomie. Naomie: but instead you called me a bitch! Ashley: yeah but was i kidding?? Naomie: ...NO!!! Ashley said you know i tried.. What else can I do. End. Next week, Whitney and KAthryn rumor. Still don’t think it happened. I think they agreed to make that a story and then he went back on it. Craig calls out whitney for bitching. Chelsea asks if Craig is drunk. On the bus, she tells Craig to check his pants for a vagina because he’s being a pussy. That’s a bad look on chelsea.
As a member of a society it is important to recognize and protect our rights. Opinions differ between individuals, but that doesn’t mean we can’t dream of a future where everyone is safe, free, and prosperous. Tune in to hear about rights and the future of human interaction in our society!
My guest is Virginia Lee Montgomery, whose new solo show Pony Cocoon is up now at False Flag in Long Island City though March 24th. The show is titled after her new film, following the birth of a Luna moth from a disembodied blonde ponytail, a frequently used symbol in Virginia’s practice. Her films are diffused with these repeated visual motifs. Dripping honey engulfs an object; a power drill bores a perfect hole through the surface of an image; a narwhal’s horn pierces the Arctic water. Images become like recurring characters through her films, which unfold like a surrealist mind-map attempting to make sense of free-associative thought. Concurrent to her art practice, Virginia works as a graphic facilitator, meaning she travels the country diagramming the flow of ideas and concepts for a variety of corporate clientele. The influence of this work is clearly felt in the way she edits her films, taking seemingly disparate ideas and finding the ways they’re interconnected. We’d like to thank Virginia Lee Montgomery as well as Edwin Lewis, Alexander Heffesse, Jon Huddleson, Whitney Smith, and Mel Hyde at False Flag. You can see my portrait of Virginia in her show at www.williamjesslaird.com/imageculture as well as on instagram @william.jess.laird and @image.cultureYou can see Virginia Lee Montgomery’s work at www.virginialeemontgomery.com and you can find the press release for Pony Cocoon at www.false-flag.orgThis show is produced by Sarah Levine and our music is by Jack and Eliza.

"I overcame so I can help others overcome" These words come from a man that many may know but quite few understand. Dwayne was born in Harlem to Laura and Donald Graham in 1978. From the day Dwayne was conceived, he was forced to go through many trails n tribulations. By the age of 15, Dwayne lost his father to HIV. Depressed and upset, Dwayne turned to the streets and began to hustle. Drinking and selling drugs became the norm for him. As one would assume this type of life style would ultimately lead to jail or death, and in most cases, that's true. Dwayne was arrested and sentenced to 5 years to life at the age of 19. Leaving his 4 brothers and mother behind Dwayne went to prison. While in prison Dwayne searched for help. Dealing with his father’s death, the guilt of abandoning his mother, and this new life threatening environment, Dwayne was able to find God. "Pain robbed me of my identity" At the age of 23 Dwayne was released from jail and returned to his family. With a new outlook on life and a supportive mother behind him, Dwayne was able to succeed and enrolled himself into college. But life and God were not through with him. After being home for only 3 years, Dwayne lost his mother to cancer. Feeling abandoned and alone Dwayne continued to push through and furthermore count on God to guide him. In the year 2008, when Dwayne was 29, he received a Bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan College of New York. Dwayne continued to work in the social services field, helping those with mental and medical disabilities become independent and self-sufficient in their community. This was part of Dwayne's way of giving back. "My Divinity kept me when my humanity failed me" After almost 7 years In the social services field, Dwayne was fired. The reasoning was not understandable but Gods purpose was. Instead of searching for another job, Dwayne went back to school but this time for something different. Dwayne enrolled into the New York Theological Seminary school. He set out to learn all that he could about God, religion and himself so that he could put it back into the world and create something that would grab the attention of children, adults, and even the non-believers. Starting with a single idea, Dwayne and his friends created a brand, Healthy "r" Us. The goal was to connect with everyone through a common need, clothing. T-shirts, hats, and hoodies all carrying the HRU logo. Dwayne and friends decided that it was time to empower those in their community to be more, do more and finally want more. Workshops, work out groups and counseling sessions. These are all the ways in which Dwayne connects with his community to help encourage them to be the best they can be. In 2014, Dwayne graduated with a Master’s degree in Divinity. His heart was open, eyes were clear, and his mission was set in stone. In 2017 Dwayne Co-authored a 30 day Inspirational Book Titled "Meeting the Authentic You-Conversations with Whitney and Dwayne" to inspire women and children inspiring them to meet their authentic selves! August of 2017 is when Dwayne now known as D.Graham started Inspirational videos right in front of his home to help people start their day with God, good Energy, good Vibes, and Motivation! Dwayne is currently working on 2 more books called "Don't Drop out on You" & When God Becomes Enough" While working on these book projects Dwayne is also schedule to begin his Podcast with his co-host Whitney Smith this March titled "Conv --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-ash-cash-show/support
Many youth today, especially at-risk teenage girls, are lacking role models. They are overwhelmed with the struggles of coming from broken homes where drugs and poverty are prevalent, survival is a constant concern, and options seem limited or non-existent. Programs across the US, including right here in our hometown of Nevada City, are uniting these girls with mentors to build confidence, teach social change skills, provide authentic and positive relationships, and reshaping their and our future for the better. On this program, join host Elisa Parker with special guests, Whitney Smith founder of Girls for a Change, Jennifer Siebold Newsom, First Lady of San Francisco, and Jennifer Litton-Singer Executive Director of The Friendship Club, who are empowering at-risk girls to become change makers and community activists through mentoring and community engagement. Listen to the stories of young women who with the help of these programs and mentoring are turning their lives around to become citizen activists and role models for other girls in their own communities.
Considering scaling up your program and results so other communities benefit?
