On December 2, 2018, the parents of twenty-one-year-old Grace Millane, a British tourist on vacation in New Zealand, became concerned when the birthday wishes they sent their daughter went unacknowledged. Having completed her degree at the University of Lincoln a few months earlier, Grace had spent several weeks traveling during her gap year but had been keeping in regular contact with her parents since leaving for her trip. When they still hadn't heard from their daughter three days later, Grace's parents called Auckland police and reported her missing. A week later, Grace Millane's body was discovered in a suitcase near an access road in the Waitakere Ranges, a dense wooded area about twelve miles outside Auckland. A day later, investigators arrested twenty-six-year-old Jesse Kempson, who was the last person seen with Grace on the night of the murder when the two were captured together by a CCTV camera going up to Kempson's room at the CityLife Hotel. Please Consider Signing this PetitionThank you to our favorite David White for research assistanceReferencesBBC News. 2018. Born and raised in North Kingstown, Kevin got his feet wet in hospitality early on. Starting as a cabana boy at Bonnet Shores Beach Club at just 15, he then worked at a variety of mom and pop spots throughout high school, gaining experience from dishwasher to pizza cook. It wasn't until he graduated, however, that he truly stepped into the restaurant industry. Under the mentorship of Chef Walter Slater at Junction Pizzeria in Wickford, Kevin truly fell in love with cooking and the undeniable adrenaline of the kitchen. While there, Kevin was inspired to enroll in Johnson & Wales' Continuing Education program which afforded him the chance to intern in Italy – an exciting opportunity to connect with his heritage and explore its cuisine. After four months, he returned home where he met his next mentor – and now-collaborator/Giusto General Manager – Aaron Edwards, and joined him at his new restaurant, Trattoria del Corso, as Chef de Cuisine. Here, Kevin's love for Italian food blossomed, but after a year was pulled back to Italy. For two and a half years, Kevin fully immersed himself in Italian culture and cuisine under Chef Lorenzo Polegri at Ristorante Zeppelin in Orvieto. It's here that he first experienced the creativity of freestyle, non-traditional Italian cooking, and Kevin credits this time and Polegri's tutelage with inspiring him to think outside the box while inside the kitchen. Back in the States, Kevin cooked at the famed Castle Hill Inn in Newport and then the Michelin-starred Del Posto in New York City. Opportunity again came knocking, and he headed back across the pond, this time to Paris. As Executive Chef, Kevin opened L'Office, a tiny bistro that garnered rave reviews and recognition both locally and internationally for its melding of French and Italian cuisine. In 2012, Kevin joined forces with the owners of The Salty Pig in Boston and developed its pasta program. Three years later, the team collaborated on a brand new restaurant concept, and in June 2016 opened SRV with co-chef Michael Lombardi. The Venetian-style Bacaro and wine bar was an immediate success, earning a 4-star review from Boston magazine, James Beard Award nomination, and continued critical acclaim since. Now, Kevin returns home with his high school sweetheart, Sarah, and young son to open his first independent restaurant concept in Newport. Giusto is a labor of love where familiar flavors come together in creative ways for a fun dining experience. Check out episode 269 with Kevin O'Donnell as mentioned in today's episode. The murder of Sir David Amess, MP casts a large shadow over the proceedings this week. After assessing the implications for the future we take on happier topics, starting with James’ Delingpod adventure with Laurence Fox. We also cover the billionaire race, the dancing Greta, and the humiliation of Matt Hancock at the UN. In Culture Corner, a more in-depth look at The Squid Game, the birthday boy takes in the new James Bond film and James finally gets to the end of Crime and Punishment. Shut Up & Laugh - Episode 38, Steve D'Amico ** WARNING, this podcast contains some mildly explicit language and/or humorous stories. This not a "Workplace Safe" broadcast on a speaker** Host Brian Trendler interviews a friend of his from 40+ years back, from the mean streets of Wickford, Rhode Island, Steve D'Amico. Not only were they childhood best friends, but little did they know that so many years later they'd reconnect to brand businesses, shop war stories (literally from his point of view) and realize that with the miracles of technology, social medias and video conferencing; really very little has changed since they were 10-year olds playing with Star Wars and GI-joe figures in their front yards. Steve's served in the military, has an inspiring and entrepreneurial story or two, loves his daughter fiercely and his wife even more, and while this podcast has some EXPLICIT MATERIAL that may not be suitable for a bluetooth speaker, it's filled with laughter, stories about resiliency, humor and joy. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/shutupandlaugh/message

I am a proud father of four children, Teddy (18), Henry (11), Florence (6) and Ralph (4). I'm married to my long suffering wife Alexis. I live in a little town called Wickford in Essex. I am a Project Manager for a fire protection company.I was born in the East End of London in a town called Dagenham, being 1 of 4 children. My life has basically revolved around drinking like most people in the UK and probably the world, so its all I’ve ever known. I knew from an early age what sort of person I knew I was but again like most I’ve been led to believe that pubs, lads holiday, working just to work and pay for those holidays is the norm. I've used drinking for most occasions that occur in my life ie.. good news, bad news, football, really I would drink to the opening of an envelope. Now I would not put myself in the same bracket as alcohol dependant people, meaning I would not need a drink daily but I would say that socially I would need a drink. I was a grey area drinker for the most of my adult life. When I hit my 30’s I did start noticing changes in my behaviour after I'd had a night out and a skin full. It didn’t seem to sit right with me anymore, and that was properly the time when I knew at some point it had to stop. Fast forward to my 35th year and I did a couple of months of no drinking. I enjoyed but again went back to the normal great area drinking. I wasn’t ready. But around this time last year I said that’s it, my wife rolled hers eye, but I knew.I've learned so much about myself in that time, and answered lots of questions I needed answered, but also opened up more and more questions at the same time.Alcohol is woven into the very fabric of life and at a very basic level, how can something that makes you feel good, also make you fell ten times worse. is it worth it, I decided it wasn’t and it's opened up a completely new world. Guest speakers Rob and Lissie Purnell from New Life Church, Wickford, share their thoughts for Oasis Church in this season. Looking at Joy and Kingdom Living.
Washington Irving wrote of the Headless Horseman, a tale of a Hessian of Sleepy Hollow who had lost his head in war. It’s a wonderful story that all enjoyed in their childhood. In RI though there is a more gruesome tale of a headless spirit in Swampton. This story may even predate Irving’s tale, and cause most to shudder in fear, when alone on Indian Corner Road. In the early 1800s a large portion of Swampton consisted of over grown forest and wetlands. Virtually all of the roads that traverse through the wilds of this portion of RI didn’t have names. Often the locals would apply names to them that best described their location. While some were adorned with pleasant names like Rathbun and Sunnyside others had much more gruesome rubrics. Dark Corners, Purgatory Rd, and Robbers Corner carried names that both identified them and warned the weary traveler. Though most names changed over time, there are those who’s now formal name still carries the spirit of its location. Indian Corner is the most interesting and frightening of those lonely byways. Indian corner Rd. lays in Washington county Rhode Island and travels northeast toward Wickford. Over 200 years ago, Indian corner was marked by a large boulder for when the winter snow made it difficult to follow. Just as long as the rock stood watch over that lonely stretch of road, many travelers who brave it by night spoke of an encounter with a headless torso or its disembodied head.
