Max Foizey interviews Ashley Spencer about her book "Disney High: The Rise and Fall of Disney's Tween Empire," chats about upcoming winter movies with Heidi Glaus, and reviews the movie "Saturday Night," with special guest Rockin' Ricky Sanborn.
Winter is coming, and there's an exciting slate of movies coming our way. From big budget spectacles to Oscar bait dramas to fun family flicks, winter has it all, and we're giving our rundown--cage match style--of them all. Not only that, but--Steven Soderbergh has been talking about retirement for YEARS. And now, in 2013, the time has come. Is the film he goes out on his “Citizen Kane,” his “Heaven's Gate,” his “Megalopolis”? It's a movie about Liberace and his lover, Scott Thorson—you be the judge! For the first time in over two years, the Deucecast crew -- Mikey, d$, and #TwitterlessDrEarl takes on a Herculean task... listing the movies coming in the fall and winter of the year. The Spring/Summer preview (ep 526) got most of the movies right, but when it comes to fall and winter, leading into award season, it's a total crapshoot. But we are up for the challenge. We list most of the major releases into theaters and streaming, with the knowledge that any of them can move without warning. Two Pinocchio films, new Kevin Smith, is Fletch even relevant anymore, Sidney Pointier gets his due, Zac Efron on a Beer Run, Olivia Wilde v Flo Pugh, Tyler Perry's Jazzman, d$ geeks out over new Russell AND new Baumbach, Mikey says "Dominatrix", #TwitterlessDrEarl loving some Tar, Anne Hathaway heads to another Oscar, She Said journalism, Amy Adams Amy Adams Amy Adams, Tom Hanks bad accents, Whitney biopic, Sarah Polley's critical love... And dozens and dozens and dozens more.

As Election Day inches closer, Seeing & Believing devotes some time to a movie about the fallout from another chaotic election season: the riots that surrounded the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Aaron Sorkin writes and directs The Trial of the Chicago Seven with his usual verbal flair; does he find the cinematic flair to match? Wade and Kevin also look to the future of moviegoing over the next few months and do their best to identify the upcoming films that you should watch out for on streaming, on VOD, or even (if conditions are right) in theaters. Plus, Wade offers a capsule review of the latest Liam Neeson-starring action flick, Honest Thief. Music interlude by Evan Schaeffer Music Studios, "Mary Mood." It’s the most wonderful time of the year! After a somewhat chill fall, we’ll soon be rocking around the blockbuster tree as Christmas movie season comes to town. Errol and Ryan bring you a preview of all the movies competing to save Christmas (and Thanksgiving) this year, plus a mini news update. Who will be this year’s red-nosed star? Heads up: We're staying explicit for this episode. We will have an announcement soon about this in an episode, but until we remember to do that, watch these episode descriptions to keep you updated. Lastly, we recorded this episode before the news of Stan Lee's passing. The heroes and the universes he created has led the way to everything we love today. Without Stan Lee's contributions, this podcast wouldn't exist. Thanks Stan. Excelsior!

I don't know about you, but I'm ready for the upcoming winter movies. Call me crazy, but the summer movie season was a bit of a dud this year. Other than Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, Spider-Man Homecoming, Wonder Woman, and Home Again, I pretty much stayed at the house and ate my own popcorn. Clearly, I have a thing for super hero movies and love stories. Throw dance and music genres in there and I'm golden. That's why I invited my friend Todd to help me out with episode 23. He's way more refined than I am when it comes to Oscar contenders. You want Dunkirk-ish movie recommendations? He's your guy. Although it was super hard to narrow down, here are the main items we discuss: We are both very nervous about Justice League. I'm glad Thor cut his hair. Todd throws some Winston Churchill in the mix with Darkest Hour. I bring it back to glitz and glamor with The Greatest Showman. What is a circus peanut you ask? Read about it here, but DON'T LET IT FOOL YOU. We both love the holiday season and will be at the movies on opening weekend to see The Man Who Invented Christmas. Pitch Perfect 3. I know you're rolling your eyes, but we have to go. Aaron Sorkin can do no wrong. Todd convinced me to see Molly's Game as a result. Star Wars: The Last Jedi - enough said. Enjoy the show!
