Matt Lacey is Sales & Marketing Manager at H V Wooding a precision component, motor lamination and busbar manufacturer. With over 20 years in companies across the industry Matt talks about busbars, wire erosion, laser cutting, electric vehicles and british manufacturing. Show Notes : https://cliffnotespodcast.com/podcasts/42/ For H V Wooding: https://www.hvwooding.co.uk/ebrochure/ Learn with the Cliff Notes on precision components * H V Wooding for busbars, motor laminations, bespoke precision components, as a subcon manufacturer we don't have our own products. * We love to see new prototype projects come in, we have seen a lot from electric manufacturers at the moment As the electric vehicle industry is still young we are able to offer advice and guidance * Reshoring has been very big for us. With Covid19 and Brexit a window of opportunity opened up with clients worried about supply chain * Reshoring cost driven at first, then not needing to order in quantity, goods in transit risks, carbon footprint and also it is much easier to talk to a local in same country on the phone * The feedback we have seen has been amazing and the cost that were perceived to be there were not really there * We have not experienced teething problems with new brexit export rule, we mainly export on single loads without problem, mixed loads with other companies have had more paperwork problems. * We use a lot of copper that is imported but not on other lines * Most of our work is single load and also a safety-net * People are realising the impact of Reshoring and how positive it can be to them

How many of you know someone in abuse, but you don't know what to do, or how to help? Please come and find out what you can do. Please, we must save more lives. It is up to all of us. Supporter's Toolkit: Leaving is often the most dangerous time for a victim of abuse because abuse is about power and control. When a victim leaves, they are taking control of their lives and threatening the abusive partner's power, which could cause the abusive partner to retaliate in very destructive ways: physical, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and financially. For myself, I had three main supporters that helped me. 1) family, 2) a co-worker, 3) a stranger who was in the right place at the right time--her name was Gloria. (I'll share more about Gloria later). Their support was built on trust and they were there for me when I was ready to make my move. Without them, I would have never made it out and I'm 99% sure I would have been a tragic news story on the evening news. We know people in abusive situations. As friends, family, co-workers, and strangers, WHAT can we do to help them? We want to be a light for them to get out of the darkness! With COVID19, the numbers are rising. More victims are trapped with their abusers. HOW DO WE HELP THEM OUT OF THIS ABUSE? ANSWER?? BECOME A SUPPORTER! Mrs. Evans made waves on the net this fall when her What's Poppin video dropped. With Covid19 present and virtual learning launching in Albany, Georgia several teachers thought a music video would be an interactive way to start the school year! They were right. The videos went viral! Not only does Mrs. Evans have bars but she's a full time teacher and cheerleading coach. This busy lady also found time to create an organization named iHoop LLC. We discuss the transition to virtual learning this school year, why she started iHoop and she dropped some encouraging words to young females that aspire to Hoop Like A Girl. Web: www.ihoopllc.com Follow: @ihoopllc_ A Word From Founder Mrs. Callie Evans: It wasn't until I was nine years old when I started to play basketball. I played other sports prior to and beyond that age and enjoyed the variety of them all, however, no other sport gave me the feeling like basketball did. I grew to love the sport during middle school. Even though I could hoop, often times I would get teased for being "too girly" on the court. My inspiration for iHoop, LLC is to demonstrate that girls can be girls while competing in sports, as we are not less of an athlete by just being ourselves; we can embrace our feminine side because we ARE different from boys and being different is OK. It has always been a passion of mine to focus on the femininity because, as girls, we have specific needs that get overlooked and taken for granted, until now. I have played basketball on many levels, starting with parks and recreation, middle and high schools, AAU, college, and semi-professional. At an early age, I began coaching little league and then with Special Olympics. I moved on to coach high school as an Assistant Coach of Varsity, Head Coach of Junior Varsity, and an Assistant Head Coach on the College level. My experience in coaching has given me a firsthand look at the dynamics of interacting with girls and basketball. I went as far as becoming a referee because learning all aspects of the game of basketball was important to me. 2020 has already stretched us in many ways as entrepreneurs. With COVID19 many business owners had to quickly pivot or close up shop altogether. In the wake of that, many who had already built a strong community around their brand had people who were ready and willing to support them through a challenging time. Then in the wake of the murders of Black Americans by the police, and subsequent protests, business owners had to decide when and how to speak to their communities. In this episode I'm joined my Social Media Strategist and Mentor Kia Young to explain how to build a strong community around your business, and how to speak to them in meaningful and real ways during national conversations. BIO: Kia Young is a Social Strategist and Mentor obsessed with helping business owners focus on what matters most on social media. Her agency, The Social Crown, supports service based businesses, personal brands, and non-profits internationally. Her family currently resides in Maryland and she's almost positive it's their forever home, as her husband inches closer to retiring from the Army. She's a Mom of 3 plus Loki, the Goldendoodle. Chances are VERY HIGH that right now she's planning a Disney trip and eating tacos. With COVID19 continuing its federally down-played rampage, and two days after the horrific George Floyd murder, the wheels continue to fall off the clown car that is Donald Trump's America. Seaniebee and The Don take off the gloves to call out the relative ambivalence, inaction and lack of urgency that seems to permeate those educated Americans who appear content to continue sleep-walking their way to four more years of the current regime. There follows a pertinent interview with Cheryl Sharp, who was sounding the warning bells four years ago, prior to Trump being elected. ************************************ Attorney Cheryl Sharp - the Deputy Director of The State of Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities – joins the podcast today to discuss all that ails America: how Donald Trump is providing permission and voice to racism; why we should retire the ‘N'-word; the debate on guns and cop-killings; why Seaniebee cannot continue to blindly hire women; and why being a civil servant doesn't necessarily have to be a dead-end job bereft of creativity. ************************************** Release date: May 30th 2020 Runtime: 71m Recorded: Dublin (Cheshire, Connecticut)
Not many of us have been feeling comfortable lately. With COVID19 turning our lives upside down, discomfort has become the norm and we're all desperate to get back to some sort of normality so we can all be comfortable again. But when that time comes, don't get too comfortable! You've heard of the Comfort Zone - that place beyond which we know we should occasionally push ourselves. But I don't think the word ‘zone' is enough to portray how limiting it is when you play it safe. That's why the name I'm choosing to describe this from now on is “enclosure” - The Comfort Enclosure. An enclosure is a place that is safe and protected - where you can avoid mistakes and too much exposure. It's the land where there are high defences against criticism or judgment, and the opportunities for failure are non-existent. But all of that safety comes at a price: your potential is curtailed; growth is stunted and you never find the answer to that question that lays quietly unanswered in the back of your mind: who can I be? how far could I go? what am I really capable of? One of my favourite expressions says “ The lies we tell ourselves are the biggest lies of all.” I think it's perfect for what we often tell ourselves about how capable we are and where we want to be. We tell ourselves we have a great reason for staying where we are, when what we're really doing is playing it safe, holding onto comfort. In this week's episode I talk about the Comfort Enclosure and share 8 signs that show you're stuck inside it, for example: · Doing your job with your eyes shut · Procrastination and avoidance · Lack of passion or interest in what you do · Doing things because that's what you've always done Playing it self to avoid COVID19 is one thing. But you may want to question how much playing it safe in your career and personal life is really serving you. Listen in to hear more. Mentioned in this episode: Episode 4: Fail Again, Fail Better Episode 11: The Discomfort Zone

Is it acceptable to stop executing your business plans?
