Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for October 13, 2024 is: ideate EYE-dee-ayt verb To ideate is to form an idea or conception of something. // Jocelyn used the education seminar's lunch hour to talk with other teachers and ideate new activities to use in the classroom. See the entry > Examples: “Well, luckily, at the same time that I was working within these industry spaces, I was also building ARRAY. It's over a decade old, it is a distribution company, we distribute films by women and filmmakers of color, we have public programming for free, for the community, all around cinema. We have a four-building campus in Echo Park where we edit and we ideate and we educate and we do all kinds of beautiful things.” — Ava DuVernay, Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso [podcast], 14 Jan. 2024 Did you know? Like idea and ideal, ideate comes from the Greek verb idein, which means “to see.” The sight-thought connection came courtesy of Plato, the Greek philosopher who based his theory of the ideal on the concept of seeing, claiming that a true philosopher can see the essential nature of things and can recognize their ideal form or state. Early uses of idea, ideal, and ideate in English were associated with Platonic philosophy; idea meant “an archetype” or “a standard of perfection,” ideal meant “existing as an archetype,” and ideate referred to forming Platonic ideas. But though ideate is tied to ancient philosophy, the word itself is a modern concoction, relatively speaking. It first appeared in English only about 400 years ago.

Steps to Creating a Prototype Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. A prototype is an early model of your technology to show proof of concept and gather feedback from potential customers. Prototypes can also be used to raise funding from investors. For building a prototype keep these key issues in mind: The current market for your product -- how do customers currently solve the problem. Specific needs of the customer -- what are the requirements of a solution. Usability -- how will the customer interface and interact with the product. Competition -- what current solutions are available and how are you better, faster, cheaper. Market position -- what position in the market do you want to take. Here are some key steps in building your prototype: Ideate on a potential solution. Create a drawing showing how it will look. Develop a mock-up showing what it might look like in physical form such as a box, a layout of the screen showing the functionality, etc. Create an actual prototype that provides limited functionality. Test the prototype to understand performance. Refine and enhance the prototype incrementally. Prototypes can be useful in writing patent applications, giving investors the image of what can be built, and showing customers how it may solve their problems. Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding. Let's go startup something today. _______________________________________________________ For more episodes from Investor Connect, please visit the site at: Check out our other podcasts here: For Investors check out: For Startups check out: For eGuides check out: For upcoming Events, check out For Feedback please contact info@tencapital.group Please , share, and leave a review. Design thinking is a problem-solving process that involves five stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. Empathize involves understanding the needs and perspectives of the people experiencing the problem. Define involves framing the problem in a way that allows for creative solutions. Ideate involves generating a wide range of possible solutions. Prototype involves creating rough, low-fidelity versions of the most promising solutions. Test involves getting feedback on the prototypes and refining them based on what you learn. By using design thinking, you can create effective, user-centered solutions to a wide range of problems. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/vidalsocial/support

In episode 4, I started a new series titled “Take the F.I.R.S.T. step: 5 steps you need to take to take to go from idea to start your business. In today's episode, we'll explore step 2 which is the letter “I” in my F.I.R.S.T. step method. My "F.I.R.S.T." step method is an acronym I created to help aspiring entrepreneurs move from idea to business launch. The letter “I” in my F.I.R.S.T. step method is “Ideate”. The number one cause of inaction is a lack of clarity. Lack of clarity breeds inaction because you don't know the next step to take. You become stuck. Finding clarity gives you vision, direction, and a roadmap that shows you the steps to go from stuck to unstuck. Finding a good example helps you find clarity. A good example is: Someone that is already doing the business you want to do or a semblance of it. This can be your spouse, friend, coach, social media influencer, etc. A resource/template about the business you want to start. It shows you the steps you need to take. The resource can be a PDF download, webinar or workshop, blog post, podcast, book, news article, Online Courses, One-on-one Coaching Programs, a 90-day mastermind, or an intensive program. Ideation involves visualizing, conceptualizing, and fleshing out your thoughts on your business idea using your “good example” as your guide. Having a good example makes the Ideation step seamless because you're following a proven model you're not recreating the wheel. I pray this episode transforms your life. Enjoy! It's an interesting time to hire right now, right? It's changed in so many ways because the people we are trying to hire have changed! So let's throw out a few fun facts about Gen Z, the group of people entering the workforce. Were born between the late '90s and about 2008 They are shrewd consumers that value their identity and how that is shown to the world. Whether that is through their purchases, social media, or their lifestyle choices (IE, where they work), they are carefully curated in how they present themselves Pragmatic and financially minded This is a generation that has watched their families be affected by the recessions of 08/09 and watched them take those hits. Truly driven by financial pragmatism and security. They are shaped by the financial stresses their families and communities faced during those recessions 3. Value Spectacle over substance They want a show. They want to be entertained and feel the excitement This past year, the university of Louisville got more 4 and 5-star recruits on campus than ever before because of this… They asked their high-income donors to bring sports cars, drive them onto the field and let recruits come take pictures in them and sit in them. They flew in on private jets and let the recruits climb all over them taking pictures. And it worked. They got talent on campus and were able to pitch to them on their football program. But here was the problem, they had the spectacle, but not a ton of substance. It was a flash in a pan with no championship culture to back it up. The University of Georgia spent 3.6 Million dollars on recruiting in 2021. And that's not even including the Name, Image, and Likeness money that was promised. That's just on attracting, recruiting, entertaining, and marketing to high school student-athletes and convincing them to come to play football at Georgia. Let's break that down a bit further, the average recruiting class is around 25 ppl, so you do the math…that comes out to spending $144,000 per student-athlete that signs to play at UGA. That is OUTRAGEOUS. It is an insane spectacle…but for them and schools like Alabama, there's also substance behind it. You walk the halls of their recruiting centers and there are massive pictures of their athletes that have gone on to play in the pros, there are trophy cases full of conference championships and national championships. There are detailed meetings with recruits of how they would be used on offense or defense and the plan for them when they come. Here's what they don't say. Just sign on and we got it. Just trust us, here's what we think we'll have you doing. And yet isn't that what we do? Most of our hiring and prospecting looks like this. We put out a half-hearted ad on Facebook or indeed, that's vague at best. And we cross our fingers and hope! Maybe we have an interview process, but not a recruiting process. There's very little spectacle and if that's what Gen Z is looking for, we are simply missing the boat. And if we're missing the boat, then we're missing the talent that could be added to our teams. Here's where I've seen that recently. With Ward Edwards engineering. They dared to ask, “What is something we could add to a new engineering grad, that no one else is doing?” We sat down and talked it through, even went to some of their staff and asked them what some of their frustrations were upon graduation and they came up with this. There's no plan for an engineer that's hired. It's just come on board and do engineering and we'll eventually get you where you need to be. And here's where Allen and Greg and their team took this. They built out a plan to go from Designer, kind of the entry-level position to Professional engineer in 4 years. To actually getting your certification and being ready to be a project manager in 4 years. Now to some of you that sound like eternity, but to an engineer that is unheard of. To look a grad in the eyes and show them the plan and how you're going to get there, puts substance behind the spectacle. For us, it was knowing that we want to hire 8 new coaches in the next 3 years. So we have to have a training plan in place. SO it was recording almost 50 videos of how to coach and our mindset and practical tips on working through our roadmap and coaching clients and prospecting and selling. All of it! And then beyond that scheduling out a mentor coach to work with them and putting times on the calendar to get them going and offer support. It's not all fluff! There's substance and intentionality every step of the way. So here's what I want you to hear. People no longer show up just to receive a paycheck. The game has changed. How can we start thinking about recruiting like a D1 College football team as they chase after new talent? So here's what we're going to do. We're going to workshop some stuff with your team. If you're one of the younger ones on the team, here's where we will lean on your wisdom…YES your wisdom. Dr. Tim Elmore calls it “reverse-mentoring”. We are going to let you build out a recruiting system in two parts, ideation, and process. The first 10 min will be throwing ideas out there. How do you attract the right people? How can you add some spectacle to how you recruit people? And then process, what does that look like year round? Because here's the thing, it's not an IF you are going to hire it's a WHEN are you going to hire. And the economic impact for waiting on the need is staggering. Thousands in lost revenue and wasted time being behind the 8 ball. You know the ABCs of selling? Always be closing? Right? Well, what if we changed that to ABI, Always be interviewing. Recruiting is a year-round job that someone needs to have in your business. So, let's figure out what that needs to look like for you! You have 10 min to throw out ideas and then we will build out the process for the second 10 min. Workshop Action: Custom-build the elements of a SPECTACULAR recruiting system. Two sections: Ideate (set timer), then document process (set timer) WORKSHOP:“ONE Thing” Around The Room: What was your one big idea whether you implement or not

Use Design Process for Ideation Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. In ideation for a startup, it's important to follow a process. Consider these process steps for your ideation program: Empathize -- understand your customers' problems very well including what works for them and what does not. This takes the research to a deeper level and includes the wishes and fears that customers have. Define -- analyze the problems and categorize them into meaningful structures. Consider the user's journey and capture what the customer must do to accomplish their task. Ideate -- generate potential solutions for the customer's problems. Capture all ideas in writing to share with the team. Prototype -- develop a prototype for each viable solution. It's important to build something that potential users can engage with. Test -- test the prototype on customers. Engage customers to check their feedback on the prototype. The process is iterative as the feedback from the customer will refine the definition of the problem which will require more ideation, prototypes, and testing. Ideation builds on previous prototypes carrying the lessons learned to subsequent versions. Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding.Let's go startup something today. Social media is critical to see your business grow. Whether it's to find clients, deepen relationships, or create new connections with others in the industry, social media is a powerful tool at every realtor's disposal. In today's episode of The Real Estate Sales Podcast, Jimmy details seven of the best social media tips for real estate agents to help everyone use the platforms successfully. Master one platform at a time. Mastering a platform allows you to generate a following, which bleeds into other platforms. Start where you're comfortable. Whichever platform you think you'll be best at is often the best channel to use first. Have a plan and a set of goals. The plan of action is just as important as the execution. Create a content calendar to understand what content you need to create. Ideate weekly content themes to post similar content on specific days to make it easier and consistent. Be authentic. Being yourself attracts your ideal client. Talk about what interests you, whether that's numbers, humor, or whatever other facets interest you. Be consistent. Consistency leads to conversions. Don't overwhelm yourself. Do what you know you can do, and then push yourself to do a little more. The more people see you, the more they trust you with their real estate business. Document your journey. Share your journey with your followers. Tap into the interest people have in real estate, and you'll begin to accumulate people interested in your content. What do you do daily that people find interesting? Respond to every single comment. If you're working on getting engagement, why wouldn't you respond to that comment? Responding assists the algorithm, creates a connection with someone, and encourages them to comment more. Implement the $1.80 principle: Find ten relevant hashtags, and comment on nine different posts within that hashtag. You'll see content similar to what you want to make, and you'll begin to create connections with people creating similar content. Do you have a video or content idea perfect for your business? Share it with Jimmy! Connect with Jimmy Burgess on LinkedIn and Facebook and his YouTube channel. If you like what you heard today, we'd love it if you'd share a rating or review and then subscribe to the podcast and tell others about it. Now that you have empathized with your own experience and defined what you want to improve, it's time to come up with ideas! Stevenson (M.Ed.) continues the Design Process by covering the Ideate phase, or creating ideas. What are ALL of the potential ways you could reach your objective?
In our last episode, we defined what it means to ideate and stretched our thinking with the Question Formulation Technique (QFT). This lays the foundation of asking a variety of questions to and with our learners, so they are able to generate, revise, prioritize, and plan with their questions in mind. As we create this culture of thinking, we are ready to think more outside of the box to ideate real solutions to issues within our organization. As previously mentioned, we must do this process entirely with empathy. We are asking others to change their viewpoints and alter their ways of operating within the organization. It's huge, so tread carefully and kindly. Over the past five weeks, I've been participating in the #CITLreads book club on Misty Paterson's book, Pop-Up Studio: Responsive Teaching for Today's Learners. While going through this five week process, my eyes were opened to new strategies on how to leverage inquiry and conceptual connections with our learners and peers. In particular, the 4A's Guiding Principles stood out as a scaffold in the inquiry process. After all, isn't coming up with new and innovative ideas part of the inquiry process? Misty Paterson came up with a simple system to help you take a look at your curriculum in a fresh new viewpoint. We will apply this concept to problem-solving. You can use one or all of all of the 4A's to spark your ideation process. We will have a challenge for each to help you stretch and grow. In the design thinking process, we recognize that the issue we have defined has not been previously dealt with correctly. We may have tried to solve the problem by examining the superficial symptoms, rather than getting to the root issue. When we ideate, we have to think out-of-the-box, so we can find alternative solutions that may seem farfetched in order to move our organization forward. In this episode, we will explore how to ideate and slay some sacred cows along the way. It's not easy to go against the status quo, but it's how we begin to evolve as an organization. Here are some links mentioned in this week's episodeThe Question Formulation Technique (QFT) Pop-Up Studio: Responsive Teaching for Today's Learners. Last episode, we focused on UX (user experience) and usability as a discipline; in this episode, we focus on UX as a practice. We discuss various stages of the UX process, from "empathize" to "ideate" to "prototype." Abi describes typical methods in UX research and testing and when to use them. To demonstrate, she springs a (poorly conducted) usability test on Benton. Finally, they discuss the typical skills and traits required of UX professionals.

What is human-centred design and what role does it play in branding? How can brands and businesses use design thinking to go beyond the traditional business models and focus on customer empathy and real-world experiments? In this episode, Juliana and I talk about the power of using design thinking in branding, specifically addressing each of the five stages of Design Thinking, which are Empathise, Define (the problem), Ideate, Prototype, and Test. We also talk about how Juliana implemented all five of these steps working with a limousine company during her time as an MA student studying Brand Management at Macromedia University in Berlin. Design Thinking is a powerful tool for solving problems in your practice, whether they range from staffing issues to patient experience challenges. In this episode of the PracticeAdvantage podcast, Mike Feinson, President of Engaged Strategies, joins Dr. Manning to discuss how independent eye care professionals can implement the five steps of design thinking to improve their businesses: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. Key Takeaways to Implement This WeekFocus on empathizing with your patients and staff around problems they're facing in their daily lives and in their work lives.Put a whiteboard in your staff common area and encourage them to write their ideas on the board. Consider posting the challenges you want to solve within the practice. Avoiding anonymity builds trust.Ask each of your team member these questions: “What's on your mind?
