SYNOPSIS: This episode explores Tune In's unequal treatment of John Lennon and Paul McCartney's childhoods, with particular attention paid to the disparate coverage of their childhood stressors and the deaths of their mothers, Julia and Mary. We go pretty deep into what we know of John and Paul's boyhoods and how those experiences shaped their personalities and affected their adult behaviors, Does Tune In do the same? For both? We'll see! SYNOPSIS: In Creative Whirlwind, we take a look at how Tune In reports and characterizes young Lennon and McCartney as budding artists. We'll show that Tune In significantly downplays and shortchanges (and sometimes even ignores) crucial aspects of McCartney's artistic development and identity. On the other hand, Lennon's creative development is shown from all angles in loving detail and with unbridled admiration. Our discussion will be divided into three major sections: Visual Arts, Literature and Musical Self-Expression. This week's guest is Beverley Densham, a Mindfulness Pilates teacher of nearly 24 years, award winning, bestselling Author of I Talk to Angels, founder of the Happy Kids Cards for children & Happy & Calm cards & has been featured in the Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, Daily Express, YOU Magazine, Woman Magazine, Spirit & Destiny magazine & BBC radioBeverley's story has led her doing what she does now and it is all the more powerful for the journey that has taken her here. During the Pandemic she lost her brother Rich when he died suddenly one night. Grief is tough at the best of times but the pandemic made it even harder. They had been very close as children but Rich suffered with Bipolar Disorder and the fallout from that was that Bev had to keep her distance somewhat, so they had grown apart over time. But as children with their two other siblings it had been a pretty idyllic, happy, simple life. However despite that Bev found it very hard to communicate, and that only got more difficult, as she grew older and went off to University. After that though she seemed to get into her stride, as a free spirit travelling and learning Pilates on the beach in Sydney. But her happiness was short-lived. One day while cycling to work she was smashed into by a car and thrown to the tarmac. Her physical injuries were bad and the pain was intense but it was the emotional trauma that overshadowed her as she tried to heal. She suffered suffered post traumatic stress, panic attacks, depression and chronic fatigue. But after a few unsuccessful attempts at therapy she found someone who helped forgive the woman who had crashed into her, and that put her on the road to recovery. That was when she started her mindful pilates practice, helping people be strong in mind, body and business, and ultimately to be happy and have the tools to empower them everyday. She believes that courage is an inner determination, a light shining within that you can't blow out and will help you through anything no matter what. Thanks so much Beverley for sharing how you have overcome adversity and created a toolbox for people that they can use as a daily practice to face the challenges of life and embrace the blessings. Thanks also for showing us that by using our bodies, minds and spirituality we can live full lives in each moment not matter what comes our way.You can find out more about Beverley's work at www.beverleydensham.comAnd follow her on Instagram @beverley_densham Join Lou on Linkedin, or go to her website for a free podcast guesting masterclass. She realized it wasn't her passion while she was student teaching. Her mom founded Forsyth Women Magazine 16 years ago. She started working for her mom as an ad salesman, working on commission. She had a lot of doubt, fear, and worry about how much money she'd “wasted” on her education. Now, she can see that it wasn't a waste of money and that she learned a lot. It's OK to grow, and to grow out of a position. It doesn't mean that the time wasn't well-spent because it's a time you were growing and learning. She found the positives. Stepping away from what you're comfortable with is a great first step, and sometimes the scariest thing to do She's hosting the “Women on the Move” leadership conference this Spring. It'll be a day of growth, learning, networking, fun and supporting local people. What's her advice to someone who's struggling to step into the opportunity? - You don't want to wait too long, especially when it comes to personal development. - If you've been thinking about self development but afraid to get yourself out there, network. You can't build relationships without putting yourself out there. - Will your future self thank you for this? If the answer is yes, don't wait for it. A lot of listeners are busy, driven women. What does Brooke do to create balance? - Exercise is her non-negotiable. - Listen to your body. It's not intense all the time, sometimes it's stretching, walking your dog, or a twenty minute power nap. J.Go's Self Love Language Quiz: - If you can't find your self love, it's hard to receive it from others. - Physical Touch: Massages, soft blankets, moving your body, napping, skincare, showers, bath. - How do you give words of affirmation to yourself? Positive self talk, finding gratitude, daily affirmations, journaling, self improvement, investing in yourself, surrounding yourself with community that lifts you up.

Back in 2002, Melinda Garvey was out for drinks with some friends when she got the idea to start a magazine focused on women in Austin. A few months later, the first issue of Austin Woman Magazine was published. Melinda didn't stop there. She continued to innovate and find new ways to support women. In 2019, her company, On The Dot, launched a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion software platform to help all women and diverse employees connect and advance within organizations. In 2020, they expanded the software to include a platform for virtual events and virtual communities. In my conversation with Melinda today, we'll dig deeper into that founding story of Austin Woman Magazine and how she made the next move from founder of a media company to founder of a tech startup. Melinda also shares how each of us can better support diversity and inclusion. Among thousands of women who lost jobs when Covid-19 hit were those who make our women's magazines. One was Sido Kitchin, former editor of Woman's Day and the NZ Woman's Weekly which closed down without warning during the level 4 lockdown. Now she's back with a new magazine and a company launching three more designed to reflect the new times.
Vicki Bradley, author of the debut crime thriller 'Before I Say I Do', joins A.M. Peacock and Chris McGeorge on this week's episode. Vicki, currently on a sabbatical from her role as a detective constable in the Metropolitan Police Service, won the Write Here Right Now novel competition and was shortlisted for the Virago New Crime Writer and Peter Fraser Dunlop prize. Her book has been described as 'a deliciously dark and twisted read' and 'as pacy as it is puzzling' by Woman Magazine and Heat Magazine respectively.
