We stand at the end of Season 3 (for an ovation, right?!) This week's episode is all about being your best self and whatever that means to you - one gal's seaswim is another gal's sticky toffee pudding and a good book. Esther & Susie discuss themselves (for a change...) and Susie reveals some worrying gaps in her knowledge of how bodies actually work. To help them in their quest for best self-dom, S & E enlist the advice of their special guest - the iridescent Rosie Green. Rosie is a journalist, beauty editor, author, broadcaster and she has spent the last 20 years writing about beauty, fashion, spas and health and interviewing and styling major Hollywood celebrities from Sarah Jessica Parker to Cameron Diaz. She regularly writes for Red Magazine, The Telegraph, The Times, Vogue and Elle, and up until recently, had her own column in the Daily Mail's You Magazine. She's basically Carrie Bradshaw. She is also a regular guest presenter on This Morning. After her 26 year relationship with her husband ended, without warning, Rosie took her pain and turned it into a best selling book How To Heal A Broken Heart. A book that has helped many people going through separations feel less alone and more positive about their future. We talk to Rosie about how she landed her first break at Vogue, working for Trinny and Susannah, the skincare she would recommend and her passion for authentic communication. Rosie glows inside and out and it was a delight to chat to here and learn some fabulous beauty tips. And we all want to know how her David Gandy interview went now... The sketch this week is musical! And a lot of fun. And you'll hear the final ever (probably) You Bash. We'll be back on May 2nd for Season 4 with new chats, new sketches and more marvellous guests! Can't wait. Ta ra for now. This week on the podcast I go on a style journey with the funny and self-deprecating former You Magazine Editor and now CEO of Children with Cancer Charity, Jo Elvin. I first met Jo in the late 90's when she was editor of New Woman (we both admitted to being slightly intimidated by the other)…she went on to become editor in chief of Conde Nast's Glamour magazine, a position she held for 17 years before being lured away to edit You Magazine which she led brilliantly for 4 years before turning her hand to leading a major UK Charity. We talk about how she found her fashion mojo and dressing for the “gladiators arena” of the fashion world…to the politics of the Front Row and on to her now famous Week on the Wall wardrobe planning that she shares on Instagram … to getting her first tattoo… all told with warmth and humour.

Jo Elvin has worked across a vast landscape of iconic global magazines including as the award-winning editor of You Magazine, and Glamour magazine. Jo's other positions in high-profile media corporations include publicist and writer, and have marked her out as one of the UK's true trailblazers when it comes to shaping the way we see life upon the pages of magazines. Jo joins Steven to talk about her secret sauce when it comes to creating a media empire, the surprising rise in strong feelings that she's seeing from the public when it comes to reactions to stories, and the fascinating story of her career so far. KEY TAKEAWAYS A sense of humour is critical when it comes to fashioning any kind of publication that you want the public to latch onto. Working in the industry allows you a rare insight into the stories that the public is fascinated by, but you can't always let those details slip. The public find themselves almost frenzied by the stories of people in the public eye. Sometimes it can create violent sentiment, and even factions that argue with one another. BEST MOMENTS 'I try to see the dry humour in things' 'Sometimes I think they would knife each other in an alley!' 'I don't understand caring and being obsessed to that degree' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Steven Sulley Study Jo Elvin Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/jo_elvin/?hl=en ABOUT THE HOST The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. My view is you should have multiple focuses to be a well-rounded individual. Success shouldn't be just one thing like money, for example, it should also consist of a healthy fit lifestyle and thriving relationships. As a person who has made a success in life and also made huge cock-ups I feel I can offer suggestions and tips on how to become successful or at least start your pursuit. My 'Study' has taken resources from reading and education plus being around, my perception, of successful people and I, know a lot of successful people from all walks of life. My 'Study' coming from my experiences in business, investing, sales (my core background), training, boxing and education has enabled me to become well rounded and successful and I will help you in these key areas too. As featured in Vogue, Tatler, Grazia, Stella, You Magazine, Harpers and Bazar, Hello, Goop and Stella, Emma Lucy Knowles is a Clairvoyant and intuitive hands-on healer, crystal reader, and meditation teacher. She started her exploration of her ‘skills' at the tender age of 7 years old having suffered from a bout of childhood depression as a result of her heightened sensitivities and powerful unexplained senses – she had a difficulty in learning how to become, understand and communicate herself in a world in which she was striving far too hard to be ‘normal'. Subsequently living what she describes as a very ‘full life' made of enriching experiences – Emma Lucy has set about making her transformation of her life pains into power and in turn making this life's work a power to benefit all. Working with a worldwide base of people and souls from across the load - helping them to discover and uncover how to overcome and transmute their pains, in their own way, in their own time - into heartfelt success – and using her own life, her experience, the power of energy and the power of crystals to guide and gather a powerful crowd of what she lovingly calls The Overcomers.
This week's guest is Beverley Densham, a Mindfulness Pilates teacher of nearly 24 years, award winning, bestselling Author of I Talk to Angels, founder of the Happy Kids Cards for children & Happy & Calm cards & has been featured in the Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, Daily Express, YOU Magazine, Woman Magazine, Spirit & Destiny magazine & BBC radioBeverley's story has led her doing what she does now and it is all the more powerful for the journey that has taken her here. During the Pandemic she lost her brother Rich when he died suddenly one night. Grief is tough at the best of times but the pandemic made it even harder. They had been very close as children but Rich suffered with Bipolar Disorder and the fallout from that was that Bev had to keep her distance somewhat, so they had grown apart over time. But as children with their two other siblings it had been a pretty idyllic, happy, simple life. However despite that Bev found it very hard to communicate, and that only got more difficult, as she grew older and went off to University. After that though she seemed to get into her stride, as a free spirit travelling and learning Pilates on the beach in Sydney. But her happiness was short-lived. One day while cycling to work she was smashed into by a car and thrown to the tarmac. Her physical injuries were bad and the pain was intense but it was the emotional trauma that overshadowed her as she tried to heal. She suffered suffered post traumatic stress, panic attacks, depression and chronic fatigue. But after a few unsuccessful attempts at therapy she found someone who helped forgive the woman who had crashed into her, and that put her on the road to recovery. That was when she started her mindful pilates practice, helping people be strong in mind, body and business, and ultimately to be happy and have the tools to empower them everyday. She believes that courage is an inner determination, a light shining within that you can't blow out and will help you through anything no matter what. Thanks so much Beverley for sharing how you have overcome adversity and created a toolbox for people that they can use as a daily practice to face the challenges of life and embrace the blessings. Thanks also for showing us that by using our bodies, minds and spirituality we can live full lives in each moment not matter what comes our way.You can find out more about Beverley's work at www.beverleydensham.comAnd follow her on Instagram @beverley_densham Join Lou on Linkedin, or go to her website for a free podcast guesting masterclass. In this episode I welcome back the incredible Jo Elvin. Jo was the editor-in-chief of Glamour Magazine for 17 years and most recently the editor of YOU Magazine. She is truly one of the magazine industry greats. However, recently Jo made the decision to leave the security and prestige that comes with her role as editor, to go freelance and completely reinvent her career at the age of 52.During the episode we talk about making difficult changes, walking away from comfort and refusing to slip into the shadows as we get older. This is an episode about empowering ourselves to be the women we want to be rather than who we are expected to be. (Jo and I also have an honest conversation about the menopause and talk about the amazing power of having fabulous nails).I hope that my chat with Jo inspires you and makes you realise that sometimes feeling safe in your career isn't enough. We need to fight to feel truly fulfilled!

Sue Peart is a journalistic legend. She is one of the UK's best loved journalists having worked on Cosmopolitan, the Daily Express, edited the Sunday Express Magazine, The Times Weekend Section and You Magazine for eighteen years. This programme was taped on the first day of lockdown where we talk about how strange the situation is, what Sue's advice is and how she was perhaps the only person in the UK with no fridge, no freezer and empty cupboards as she was expecting to move. I think it's an interesting conversation when all of this was new, weird and overwhelming, but Sue's advice is fantastic and - 4 weeks into lockdown - we can see she's spot on. A wise woman indeed.

In episode 35 of The One Fab Day Wedding Podcast, we're talking about planning a wedding when two become three! The further we move away from traditional marriages, the more brides find themselves in the position of wedding planning while pregnant. Obviously, if your due date is around the time of your wedding, you may have to postpone it, but if you're going to be pregnant on the day, or you'll have a small baby in tow, there are a lot more options. Our guest today is You Magazine fashion editor and expecting Mum Grace Cahill, who will be tying the knot with her other half, Adam, in 2020, when their new arrival will be eight months old. It's a very workable timeline, but it also means that Grace has been pregnant for a huge chunk of planning, which isn't without its challenges! Her advice on wedding planning while pregnant covers essential topics such as navigating wedding dress shopping and simplifying the budget, so let's dive in!Episode Breakdown: How a Pregnant Fashion Editor Planned her WeddingWedding tip: Celina's tip this week is to make a plan for the night before the wedding. This could be anything from an intimate dinner with family, to a trad session in a local pub, to a quiet night of pampering with your bridesmaids. Whatever your preference, it's good to have something in the calendar before all your relatives arrive at the venue, and demand you spend the evening in the bar with them!Main topic: Today's episode is all about wedding planning while pregnant, something our lovely guest knows all about! As well as being a stylist, journalist, and fashion editor of The Irish Daily Mail's You Magazine, Grace Cahill is an expecting Mum, who will be tying the knot with her other half, Adam, in 2020. Our chat covers everything from wedding dress shopping with a bump, to incorporating a newborn into your wedding plans, to catering for pregnant guests, to managing your budget when you've got two major life events on the horizon!Wedding dilemma: A listener writes, “I absolutely love smoke bomb pictures and really want to incorporate into my wedding shots but does the reality live up to the dream?! And also will they stain my dress? Even if you just stand in the smoke and get someone else to light/hold it?” Our advice is, of course, to use smoke bombs if you really want to, but we're also mulling over some of the challenges associated with these popular photographic props. For example, they're unpredictable, potentially time-consuming, and yes, it is possible that they'll stain your wedding dress! Something to do when you're not planning your wedding: In this episode, Celina's recommending an open online course, like the ones offered by Masterclass, Coursera, and Udemy. There are lots of short, low-commitment options available, and you can learn everything from how to train your dog, to how to sing like Christina Aguilera (sort of!)Thanks for listening! Got something to add to the conversation? Shoot us a mail at hello@onefabday.com. We want the One Fab Day Wedding Podcast to make wedding planning easier and more enjoyable for you, our beloved listener, so if there's something you'd love to hear discussed on the show, or a question you'd like answered, please do drop us a line.If you loved the episode, don't forget to rate and review the podcast on iTunes. Meet the new generation of women who are fearlessly doing it their way. This live recording is from the exclusive YOU Magazine and JD Williams event, We See You Live. Hosted by YOU Editor Jo Elvin on September 26 at Manchester Hall. The panellists shared their inspirational stories and explain how they get their confidence.
This weekend, You Magazine’s editor, Jo Elvin titled her Editors Letter “Ease Up Superwomen!” with a really open and honest personal story of how she struggled once she had been made redundant as it really challenged her identity. We take such pride in being considered strong, we feel that we have to be busy all the time in order to be taken seriously – I’m as bad as anyone else at not being able to sit down for any length of time which makes me think that sometimes we need to ask ourselves, WHY we are feeling the need to be superwoman? Who are we doing it for? Who are we trying to prove something to? Because if we are running from something below the surface, we will just keep running. It’s not going to go away. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a real plate spinner and that’s often a necessity in modern life but if it gets to the stage that you CAN’T stop or you are CONSTANTLY on the go in order to feel like you have to keep up, to fit in – then I think we have to be careful that we aren’t heading for a brick wall. One of my best friend's daughters recently gave a Ted talk, which was amazing and offered the simple yet profound observation that yes we are all different, but the challenge is in staying different. If only we could get our heads around the fact that we don't have to be the same, achieve the same or live the same, then we might give ourselves space to truly blossom.
Jo Elvin has been on my top list of podcast guests for a long while and I finally got her into the studoio. Yay!In this episode we have one of my best sorts of chats where the conversation darts about and you never know where you're going to emd up next. We chatted abouth everything from dogs to clothes our husbands hate to how far we can trust beauty influencerss versus journalists. Jo chatted about a life editing some of our most iconic magazines and what she feels women really want. She also gives a very honest account about how she sees herslef when she looks in the mirror.Jo is intelligent, naturally quick and has the irreverent style of humour that I love so much. Later on I talk about my favourite body butter of all time and recommend a hair salon where you're guarenteed a great cut and good chat!If you're enjoying this series then I'd be realllly grateful if you can spread the word and say lovely things about us in your iTunes Reviews xx

This week welcome to the show Dr. David Hamilton. David has a first class honors degree in chemistry, specializing in biological and medicinal chemistry. He has the slightly geeky honour of having achieved 100% in his 3rd year university degree exam in ‘Statistical Mechanics’, which is a branch of quantum physics applied to chemistry. After completing his PhD, he worked for 4 years in the pharmaceutical industry, first developing drugs for cardiovascular disease and cancer, then a year managing leadership and change projects. During this time he also served as an athletics coach and manager of Sale Harriers Manchester, one of the UK’s largest athletics clubs, leading the Junior Men’s team to three successive UK finals. Upon leaving the pharmaceutical industry, he co-founded the international relief charity Spirit Aid Foundation and served as a director for 2 years. While writing his first book (2004-2005), he taught chemistry (main) plus ecology and mathematics (secondary) at West College Scotland (formerly, James Watt College of Further and Higher Education) and tutored chemistry at the University of Glasgow. He’s now a bestselling author of 8 books (No’s 9 and 10 are due out in 2017) published by Hay House UK, and offer talks and workshops that use science to inspire – fusing neuroscience, the mind-body connection, kindness, and philosophical and eastern spiritual teachings. He also writes a regular blog on his website as well as occasional blogs for the Huffington Post (US edition) and Psychologies Life Labs, and is a columnist for Soul and Spirit Magazine. In 2016, David won the Kindred Spirit, ‘Best MBS Writer Award’. He has been featured in numerous publications, including ELLE, RED Magazine, Psychologies, YOU Magazine, Good Housekeeping (both UK & US), and several newspapers. You might wonder how he got into writing on the subjects he does. In his own words, “Well, during my time in the pharmaceutical industry, I was fascinated by the placebo effect – how people improve through believing they are receiving a drug – so I began to study mind-body interactions in my spare time. I decided to leave the pharmaceutical industry after 4 years because I wanted to educate about the mind-body connection, help people to believe in themselves more, and spread a little more kindness in the world in my own way.” Questions we ask in this episode: You specialized in biological and medicinal chemistry. Why did you decide to look at the placebo effect? How powerful do you think the placebo really is? What inspired you to write your new book, The 5 Side Effects of Kindness? What are the 5 side effects of kindness? Can you tell this listeners what "molecules of kindness are?" Shop: http://shop.180nutrition.com.au/ We have on the show Dr David Hamilton, and I have to say I truly loved every minute of this show. Now David has a first class honors degree in chemistry, specializing in biological and medicinal chemistry. After completing his PhD he worked for four years in the pharmaceutical industry, first developing drugs for cardiovascular disease and cancer, then a year managing leadership and change projects. Now he is also a best selling author of 8 books published by Hay House in the UK, and offers talks and workshops that use science to inspire, fusing neuroscience, the mind body connection, kindness and a philosophical and eastern spiritual teaching, so yes you can see why I loved this episode so much. [00:01:30] [00:02:00] And what I loved about David's journey, A) he is just an upbeat positive awesome dude, but from that as well we get stuck into the placebo at first and what he was seeing from back in his pharmaceutical days, and comparing that to the actual drugs people were taking, which is just fascinating, and then we get into his new book, the Side Effects of Kindness, and he talks at it from a biological and physical perspective as well of what is going on, and it was just fascinating, and yeah it was awesome, so if you want to do an act of kindness after listening to this show, feel free to leave us a review on iTunes, or actually share this episode with someone that you think might really appreciate it. David, welcome to the show. David Oh well, thanks very much, nice to be here. [00:03:00] Guy It is a pleasure mate, and we ask one little question just to kick start the show to all our guests, and that is if a complete stranger stopped you on the street and asked you what you did for a living, what would you say? David I write books and I give talks. In a nutshell. I would probably tell them the kind of topic that I wrote on but it depends on how ... if we were moving fast in opposite directions.
