Welcome back to another episode of the Beam Life podcast. I am excited to dive into a topic that's been on my mind lately—underrated self-care tips. And let me tell you, this episode is going to be raw, unscripted, and straight from the heart, just like every other episode of this organic podcast. So, let me give you a little background. I recently took a trip to Texas, and honestly, it wasn't under the happiest circumstances. It was for a funeral. My stepdad had been ill for some time, and even though we knew the day would come, it still hits you hard. Gathering with my family, who have a wide range of personalities and quirks, always brings about some chaos (in a good way). But it also drains me emotionally. Now, this trip was a combination of factors that left me feeling creatively stumped, exhausted, and not quite like myself. Can you relate? I bet you can. We all have moments like these when life throws us curveballs and we need to find a way to recharge and take care of ourselves. That's why I felt compelled to share these underrated self-care tips with you today. I want to explore accessible ways to nurture yourself that have a lasting impact beyond the time you invest in them. We won't be talking about the typical indulgences like bubble baths and massages (although I adore those too). Instead, I'll be sharing some less obvious tips that can truly make a difference. I hope one or ALL of these underrated self-care tips resonates with you and that you'll give them a try. On this week's episode I talk about "The Consistency Code" and the 5 traits of a consistent person. I was inspired to discuss this topic by my recent re-commitment to marathon training and the positive impact it has had on other areas of my life, such as parenting, emotional resilience, and business. By developing consistent habits and patterns, we can improve our reliability, discipline, perseverance, accountability, and organization. Consistency is essential to achieving our goals and making progress in all areas of our lives. It helps us to develop habits, routines, and patterns that keep us on track and moving forward towards our desired outcomes. When we are consistent, we build trust and reliability with ourselves and others. We demonstrate our commitment and dedication to our goals, and we develop a sense of discipline and self-control that helps us overcome obstacles and challenges. Consistency also helps us to stay accountable for our actions and to take responsibility for our mistakes. It allows us to learn from our failures and make adjustments as needed to continue making progress towards our desired outcomes. In contrast, when we lack consistency, we can struggle to achieve our goals and make progress towards success. We may feel overwhelmed, distracted, or unmotivated, which can lead to procrastination, inconsistency, and failure to follow through on our commitments. It's crucial to cultivate consistency in our lives, whether it's through daily habits, routines, or schedules. PODCAST LISTENER OF THE WEEK: In addition to sharing the 5 traits of a consistent person, I am excited to announce the podcast listener of the week! If this is you, please email me at kaitlin@thebeamlife.com with “Listener of the week” as the subject line to gain access to your free month of membership! And you know what, that's not surprising at all because investing in yourself always pays off in the end! Investing in yourself can look different for everyone. Maybe it's taking a course to learn a new skill, attending a workshop or seminar, reading books, traveling to a new place, or even practicing some good ol' self-care. Whatever it is, it's all about helping you grow as a person and adding some major value to your life! Here's the deal, investing in yourself gives you the biggest ROI (Return on Investment) because the skills, knowledge, and experiences you acquire stay with you forever. This episode is all about “enoughness.” I share a personal message about feeling enough as a woman who wears many hats. I almost didn't record this episode because I'm getting married this weekend! But, a big part of marriage is feeling enough in yourself and having your partner love and accept you for who you are, as you are. I also talk about the pressure that society puts on women to be perfect. I give you the tools to use when you feel like you're doing it all but it's still not enough, and how to identify areas of your life where showing up as close to 100% as possible is important, and areas where being average is good enough. We juggle many roles in a day, and on top of that, we feel the pressure to be smart, sexy, fashionable, successful, in shape, spiritual, and all the things. We can't be everything to everyone and there really isn't a standard of perfect. If this episode resonates with you I would love it if you shared it with a friend or took a few seconds to leave a review. If you're feeling called to take the next step you can use this link to apply for coaching with me.
On today's episode, I dive into the topic of limiting beliefs and how to overcome them. No matter how successful you are, everyone has limiting beliefs that can hold them back from reaching their full potential. I start off the episode by discussing the importance of awareness in overcoming limiting beliefs. We cannot change what we are not aware of, so it's essential to first identify and understand our beliefs. I then discuss how to pinpoint where these beliefs come from, whether they're self-imposed or influenced by external factors. Next, I introduce a six-step approach to breaking down and getting rid of limiting beliefs. This approach includes acknowledging the belief, challenging it, reframing the belief, creating a new belief, taking action, and reinforcing the new belief. I provide examples and practical tips for each step, so you can apply this approach to your own limiting beliefs. I also discuss how overcoming limiting beliefs is an ongoing process, and it requires commitment and consistency. It's essential to practice self-awareness and continue to challenge and reframe our beliefs regularly. Overall, this episode provides valuable insights and practical tips for overcoming limiting beliefs and unlocking our full potential. So, tune in and join me on this journey of personal growth and self-improvement. I know that sometimes, taking the first step towards breaking down your deepest limiting beliefs can be tough. Today, I'm sharing all the juicy details from my recent girlfriends getaway with my 2 best friends to Valley of Fire and Zion National Park. In this episode I talk about how: As mothers and ambitious women, it's easy to feel guilty for taking time away from our responsibilities, I'm here to remind you that it's crucial that we do. Taking time for ourselves can help us feel more fulfilled and rejuvenated, both in our personal and professional lives. There's nothing like best friends The Enneagram and working with my coach Tracy O'Malley has been life changing- click here to check her out and learn your Enneagram Vulnerability and knowing how to ask for help is true intimacy and the secret to meaningful relationships the word “strong girl” has a different definition to me now During our trip, we had the opportunity to explore the beautiful landscapes of Valley of Fire and Zion National Park. One of the highlights of the trip for me was climbing Angels Landing. I'll be honest, I had a rare panic attack on the way up, but the power of sisterhood got me through it and I was able to summit. It was a great reminder of the importance of having a strong support system and how much we can accomplish when we work together. For any of our listeners who are interested in taking a similar trip for themselves, I want to invite you to join us in Costa Rica for the first women's international retreat. I've struggled with my body image, weight and self-esteem for as long as I can remember. As a kid who grew up in the 90s, diet culture was at it's full-time high. After many years of therapy, personal growth and becoming an expert in the field, I've thankfully realized the only way to get the health I desired, was to heal from the inside out. This week, I bring the inspiring mind and body coach, Amber Shaw, who also believes in the power of mindset and learning to love ourselves. She brings her expertise and charisma to this community, and answers some great questions about how to stop the yoyo dieting and self-sabotage. Although Amber specializes in helping women over 40, this episode contains something for everyone! What's in this episode: How Amber started her journey into the world of health and fitness The problem with having an “all or nothing” strategy Why diets are bullshit and will never be sustainable The danger in outsourcing our joy to things like external beauty or the validation from other people The secret to long lasting health, according to Amber it isn't nutrition Tips to get started on your health journey right away Connect with Amber Shaw on Instagram, her website or her podcast! I don't know about you, but my introduction to motherhood was fairly brutal. I wasn't prepared for all of society's expectations of what it meant to be a mother. The messages I was receiving was to become a stay at home mom, give up on my dreams and do it all with ease. However, that didn't work for me. Neither did it for this week's guest, Beth Levine. Beth shares how she one day had a revelation in spin class, that the stay at home mom life wasn't for her. Coming from the corporate world, she knew she didn't want to go back there, so she did what was on her heart and started her coaching business. Not only did her business, SmartMouth, become wildly successful, but she also wrote a book and has been featured in the world's most respected publications. What's in this episode: What it's like to start your career during the demands of motherhood The inspiration behind starting her company, SmartMouth The transition and balance of motherhood and entrepreneurship Overcoming imposter syndrome and self-doubt The freedom Beth experienced from starting her own business Advice and tips for aspiring or current entrepreneurs You can learn more or connect with Beth Levine by visiting her website: https://www.smartmouthcommunications.com/ Want to feel seen and form authentic connections with other like minded women? It can be so confusing to be a woman these days. We are asked to be strong and do so much, yet not too strong. We are asked to be nurturing and soft, yet not too soft. What the f*ck do they want from us? This is where I was 3.5 years ago. Stuck at a crossroads between who everyone expected me to be and who I was dying to become. I had to make a choice, because the stuck feeling was killing me. And so, I took that first step on the journey to empowerment. I haven't looked back sense. In today's episode I tell you how I define empowerment, both as an empowered woman and empowerment coach. I'll give you a hint, it's probably not what you're expecting me to define it as. What's in this episode: What to “be empowered” really means Redefining the expectations of a "strong girl" Why men think I hate them How a life coach can help you The power of slowing down and discovering your feminine energy My personal journey from stuck to empowered The beauty in living in alignment Let's connect on IG, I would love to hear how this episode landed with you. I recently heard a phrase, “cool girls don't drink anymore.” This week's guest, author and coach, Kay Allison, would absolutely agree! Over the past year, I've been exploring my own relationship with alcohol, so I thought it would be excellent to talk to an expert, like Kay, to get some answers. And, as expected, she delivered! The sober curious movement, has taken the social media world by storm. If you're new to the term, sober curious, it's usually defined as having the option to choose or change your drinking habits for health reasons (mental and physical). The movement encourages people to recognize the unhealthy habits associated with drinking. Through Kay's own personal sobriety journey, over 20 years sober and working with thousands of women, Kay is able to speak with passion and confidence about how we can take the first step towards living our very own JUICY AF Life! What's in this episode: How Kay went from drinking daily to deal with the demands of a big career to living an Juicy AF (Alcohol Free) Life Why many successful women depend on alcohol as a way to cope The inspiration behind her new book, Juicy AF: Stop The Drinking Spiral, Create Your Future How her program is an alternative approach to AA Why mommy wine culture is keeping us stuck First steps and tips for women who are sober curious How cutting back on alcohol consumption or going sober can completely overhaul your life You can connect with Kay Allison and buy her new book by visiting her website or sending her a DM. This week I'm going to you live from my home state of Texas, visiting my sister and my new baby nephew. Being home for the holidays, always provokes memories from my childhood as well as be in awe at how fast the time has gone. It's that time of year again…Halloween is over and the holidays are in full swing. Which for many means additional stress, commitments, judgment and chaos. If that sounds like you, you're far from alone. Three years ago I was introduced to an end of year challenge, which I had never heard of before. Up until that point it was only New Year's resolutions. However the idea of that challenge was to show up for yourself and start the next year as your best self, instead of run down and exhausted. I was inspired to start my own version of that this year for The BEAM Life community, called Stop the Holiday Spiral. Have you ever shared your big vision with someone, only to be met with doubt and a million reasons why that would never work? Welcome to the club. According to author and life coach, Martha Beck, she calls that contrarian thinking. Which is the ability to see and believe your future and density before it happens, even if it appears bold or unlikely. It's also fascinating to arrive at our big milestones, only to look back and realize that all those “bad things” or hiccups along the way, had to happen in order for you to arrive where you are now. It's a more intricate way of thinking, everything happens for a reason. What's in this episode: The importance of holding your vision How divorce, being overweight and having a difficult start to motherhood made were all part of the journey to being here now Finding meaning in the difficult times by recognizing the people and things we currently have and love the most I trace my timeline from childhood to present and see how every pivotal moment was no coincidence Want to feel seen and form authentic connections with other like minded women? I was recently asked why I use disco balls as a part of my branding, and I realized that was something I hadn't ever shared with this community. Disco balls are not only a symbol of celebration and liberation, but also represent something much deeper than that to me. It's symbolic of brokenness coming together to make something spectacular, much like our human lives. Perfectly, imperfect. In this episode I share some intimate stories about the brokessness and struggles I felt in my previous marriage as well as my entry into motherhood. I had lost my way and was looking to society to tell me my next move, instead of listening to my intuition. Now that I'm on the other side of broken, I can reflect and share about how a strong woman, like me, forgot who she was. What's in this episode: What a disco ball represents to me The consequences of people pleasing and putting others before ourselves How I lost my identity and sense of self in my previous marriage The pressures society can have on a young woman My struggles in early motherhood Overcoming failures How I turned my brokenness into beauty Don't miss out on the FREE 3-Day Level Up Your Life Bootcamp kicking off Oct 11-13th! I recorded this week's SOLO podcast while visiting my hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Anytime I'm back home, I'm reminded of my childhood and become super nostalgic and reflective. A lot has changed, yet so much is the same. I've been through many ups and downs since I left home nearly 18 years ago.
