It began with a fall. 1958, on a quiet island in Hawaii, a five-year-old boy is thrown from a moving car, his skull fractured, his tiny body barely holding on. Ghost Investigaton - Avation Museum Part 4 Ghost Children Playing - Episode 210In this final episode, we are back at the Infamous Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada,Home - Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada located beside the Richardson Airport in Winnipeg, Manitoba......and its HAUNTED!!!! even the volunteers and staff know its haunted. You have to remember these planes and artifacts carry ALOT of energy. Some people have even died in these planes that have been repaired to keep on display. Today's episode we talk with the security guard there who shares a spooky story about his friend's cabin in The Whiteshell.....its the first cabin built in The Whiteshell and it has an ominous past.....You will have to listen to find out more details about 'The cabin in the woods'. We also chat with Kelly from The Winnipeg Paranomal Group and talk about Jas's other limited run podcast.....Macabre, Manitoba from October 2024. We talk about the Cannibal case back in the 90's when Winnipeg was the movie location for the Hollywood Production of 'Shall We Dance'. Jewellry was missing, Susan Sarandon't prop necklance worth approximately $450 K!!! it was found with a dismembered body at the Royal Albert Arms Hotel. We also discuss the tragic past interview with a listener who lives in Transcona and tolf of the little Ghost Boy who died in the garage next door and returns to her house to 'Play'. Oddly enough....we had a few technical glitches...... 2 minutes of audio went missing......dead air, if you will and yet our mics were still charged and working and the iphone was recording in voice memo mode.....but we lost audio when Sher started to talk about 'The Ghost Children' known to run around and play in the museum at might. We deeply thank Kelly and Ashley, once again, for allowing us to tag along to record some of the stories while we investgated. It was a great night as Sher even was able to make it out to the Dalnavert this past Friday - it was an amazing night and everyone was fully involved in trying to connect with the other side. In the last of our FROM THE ARCHIVES episodes, I'm revisiting one of the most important conversations I think I've had on this podcast (not to mention one of my favourites) - with Terri White, the brains behind the award-winning podcast, Finding Britain's Ghost Children, which explored why so many children are missing from Britain's class rooms. Earlier this year, the podcast took home Gold at the ARIAS (industry Oscars etc) as well as a host of other commendations... My guest this week has come a hell of a long way - from the Derbyshire village where she grew up, to London and the editor's seat of Empire magazine, by way of New York where she was one of Folio magazine's top women in American media. Ostensibly Terri White was living the 'single woman in Manhattan' dream. But, uber-competent at work, she was clinging by a thread in her personal life, struggling with chronic depression, self-harming and self-medicating with alcohol and prescription pills. When she was admitted to a psychiatric ward it marked the beginning of a remarkable journey that she documents in her extraordinary memoir, Coming Undone. To say it's raw and unflinching would be a massive understatement. Brace yourself for some extreme honesty as Terri discusses her mental health struggles, being a working class woman in a middle class world, how becoming a mother affected her relationship with her own mother, curing herself of busy busy busy and why she would not go back to 25 if you paid her. This episode is part of my Folklore Friday series where I am sharing a folklore story every Friday in 2024. Who are Iceland's Ghost Children? with what's known as a child ghost.The tale begins when a maid at a local farm gives birth to an unwanted baby. During Iceland's pagan era, it was common to abandon such children in the wilderness. This harsh and unusual choice was seen as logical for young mothers hoping to avoid judgement and punishment from the local community.Shortly after this terrible act, the nearby village planned to hold a celebration filled with dancing and singing, known as Vikivaki. The maid was invited but declined because she didn't have suitable clothes.On the day of the Vikivaki, the maid was tending to her owner's sheep with another woman. She lamented her lack of clothes, complaining openly. At that moment, a soft voice sang out to her from beneath the wall of the sheep pen:"Dear mother, in a pen, a pen, do not worry about it because, because I'll lend you my rag to dance in and dance in."Realizing it was her dead child mocking her from the darkness, the maid was struck with terror. She was haunted by the experience for the rest of her life and was considered insane, tormented by an act that, unfortunately, was not uncommon in heathen Iceland. Random Fact of the Episode Vikivaki is one of the most well-known traditional folk dances in Iceland. It is a type of ring dance that requires the dancer's body to remain quite stiff and has been performed throughout the Nordic regions since the Middle Ages. The dance is performed by both men and women and is relatively easy with simple steps. Vikivaki refers to both the dance and the accompanying music. Icelandic Word of the Episode Útbúður means an infant child left outside to die. Taking any type of hormonal contraception could increase your risk of getting breast cancer, according to a new study by the Cancer Epidemiology Unit at Oxford Population Health, which is part of the University of Oxford. It's one of the first big studies into this type of birth control assessing the risk of breast cancer. But headlines like this will be alarming, so, what do we need to know and do? More than 140,000 schoolchildren in England were officially "severely absent" in the summer term of 2022, according to official Department of Education figures, and the number of these pupils, missing at least 50% of classes, is growing. We discuss a very popular urban legend in San Antonio that revolves around a train crossing at which, according to the legend, an horrific train /school bus accident took place in the late 30's. The legend implies that the ghosts of the school children who died there will push your car off the tracks to safety when you leave your vehicle on the tracks in neutral.
