This is one of the most important podcasts I've had the pleasure to do, as its focus is on free and fair election systems, the cornerstone of our Democracy. I spoke with Walt McKee and J. Larry Mayes, who co-chair the Braver Angels Trustworthy Elections Leadership Team, an organization I am also proud to be a member of. Braver Angels is a unique nonprofit, as it is one of the few organizations that actively brings people together from both sides of the aisle to listen to each other and develop friendships- whether they lean red or lean blue. This year they decided to do a project to determine what everyone could agree on as a fair and trustworthy election. The summary, available to all on the Braver Angels' website, is reported to consist of "23 specific solutions which address seven broad areas of concern," including: Fair and Equal Access to Voting Verifiable Voter Identity and Eligibility Transparency and Accountability Redistricting – Gerrymandering Confidence in Vote Counting Safety and Security in the Elections Process Peaceful Transfer of Power Please come learn about how these recommendations were developed and agreed to by all who lean left or lean right as a way to find common ground together. Dr. Carl Peters was the guest on this Sunday and he brought a message about division-- but not the mathematic kind. We live in a day when so many are divided and mired in disagreement. Where does the division come from, and how can we heal the great divide? Along the way we also talked about the work of the devil, "two races" of humankind, and a warning sign from antiquity found on Jerusalem's Temple Mount. Join Pastor Carl as he shares some wonderfully encouraging news about the person and work of Jesus. Note: The photograph associated with this podcast is of the "Temple Warning Inscription" mentioned by Dr. Peters. The sign warning non-Jews from entering the Temple precincts was discovered in the late 19th century and is now on display in the Archeological Museum in Istanbul, Turkey.

In this episode, our guest is Marina El Khawand who is a recent law school graduate from Sagesse University. Her story started after the Beirut explosion and during the economic crisis when she secured a much needed asthma medication to an old lady stuck in her half destroyed apartment in the Karantina neighborhood in Beirut. Marina was 18 at that time and has been passionate about equal access to healthcare for all people in Lebanon. After this event, she established Medonations, an NGO that is now operating in more than 65 countries with medical drives collecting much needed medications and serving more than 20000 families in Lebanon. Medonations has been able to weather multiple medication crises in Lebanon and continues to grow. Marina, a lawyer, by training, is now a pharmacist by practice and is on her way to going into pharmacy school. This is an inspirational story and an embodiment of resilience in the face of adversity. Instead of moving abroad and starting a new life, Marina has decided to stay and have a positive impact on her society. #economiccrisis #medicaldonations #medications #pharmacy This episode is available on all podcast apps and youtube Youtube link: https://youtu.be/DnlHpIZul2o Website for Medonations: https://medonations.org Also it can be found on LinkedIn and Instagram

Our conversation delves into AIM's collaborative partnerships with various organizations and the development of essential resources aimed at breaking down barriers to disability inclusion within medical education. Through engaging stories and real-life triumphs, we highlight the tangible impact of AIM's efforts, seen through the transformative journeys of individual students and the invaluable support networks they discover. Additionally, we shed light on the personal motivations driving AIM's members, emphasizing the significance of shared learning experiences and the collective desire for increased accessibility. By delving into the principles of mutual learning and community solidarity, we underscore the empowering paths taken by students navigating their disability journeys and stress the importance of challenging biases entrenched within the medical field. Our discussion extends beyond individual experiences to explore the broader societal implications and ethical imperatives surrounding disability inclusion. As we delve into the core of AIM's mission, we urge the wider medical community to actively advocate for accessibility and inclusivity, catalyzing meaningful change by amplifying success stories and critically examining prevailing attitudes and beliefs. This week, we are discussing how non-profits will sue federal agencies to stop them from managing land and how they use the Equal Access to Justice Act to profit from the lawsuits. Also, a few headlines we found interesting include; In Washington, the push to restore grizzly bears in the North Cascades continues, with the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service publishing their final Environmental Impact Statements. Wolves have potentially been sighted in Nevada, which is definitely not a normal occurrence for the state. Are they there to stay? Or are they Passing through? The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation recently announced that they have committed over $760,000 to numerous projects in Utah to improve wildlife habitat, further wildlife management and bolster research and hunting support. In Vermont, there have been a few updates and amendments to the legislation that would change how the state's wildlife board functions, along with changes to coyote hunting regulations. In Wyoming, the Legislative session has wrapped up, and Josh Metten with the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership has compiled a list of some of the state's conservation wins. Each year, UNESCO, .the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, looks at worldwide parity in education between boys and girls. Studies have shown that countries where girls and boys have equal access to quality education have stronger economies and better social systems. This year, the report shows that fewer girls are leaving the education system before they finish...but there's still a long way to go. Manos Antoninis is UNESCO's Director of the Global Education Monitoring Report, and he spoke with the CBC's Leigh Anne Power.
Disability rights advocates in Connecticut are demanding better medical access. And this legislative session, they're pushing lawmakers to pass two bills. Both aim to improve medical equipment and training, and access to better care when examining, diagnosing and treating patients with disabilities. We hear from one advocacy group involved in this effort, the Citizens Coalition for Equal Access, or CC=A. Public Health Committee Co-Chair and State Sen. Saud Anwar also shares his hopes for the pair of bills — one focused on medical diagnostic equipment, the other on lifts — which he helped to draft after an informational hearing with disability rights advocates across Connecticut last September. Where We Live heard from eight members of CC=A prior to this program, who talked about some of their negative experiences in the medical setting. As Jamie Mosier shared, "Something has to be passed to make sure we get what I need, that we get what everybody needs, before we're all dead." Plus later today, wheelchair users and advocates across the state will gather at the State Capitol. They plan to rally in support of the "transformational recommendations by the legislative Wheelchair Repair Task Force to tackle the absurd delays faced by 90% of roughly 5,000 CT consumers." Task Force member and consumer advocate Jonathan Sigworth joins us to discuss this legislative push. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, signed into law on November 15, 2021, requires the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), within two years, to promulgate rules to facilitate equal access to broadband internet services and to prevent "digital discrimination of access based on income level, race, ethnicity, color, religion, or national origin." Significantly, the statute also requires that the rules take into account "issues of technical and economic feasibility." The FCC issued a notice of proposed rulemaking on December 22, 2022, and comments and reply comments have now been submitted.Given the importance of widespread access to broadband services, the "Digital Discrimination" proceeding is one of the most important items on the FCC's agenda. Does the agency have authority to adopt rules that would impose liability on broadband providers based only on a showing of unintentional disparate impact or is evidence of intentional discrimination required? In considering liability, how should the agency take into account claims relating to the technical and economic feasibility of making available access? What impact will the rules have on investment and innovation under various scenarios? What type of process should the Commission employ in considering complaints of digital discrimination?A panel of experts joined us for a lively discussion of these and other questions as the FCC prepares to adopt final rules in the digital discrimination proceeding.Featuring:- Seth L. Dr. Brooke Ellison, PhD visits the Intentional Clinician Podcast to talk about her new book Look Both Ways, as well as her life, how 30+ years living with quadriplegia has shaped her views on many subjects, a society of exclusion and working for inclusion, family members and friends who care for those with disabilities, human rights and value, structural functionalist models, the infantilization of people living with disabilities, trauma, the gift of sensitivity, love, and science. Paul Krauss MA LPC and Dr. Brooke Ellison, PhD have an honest and authentic conversation about how her struggles can inspire others to get involved in making a real difference in the lives of others and the larger community. At age 11, Brooke Ellison was hit by a car, an accident that left her paralyzed from the neck down and ventilator-dependent. Ten years later, she graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in cognitive neuroscience. At 23, she penned Miracles Happen, a memoir that was adapted into a movie, The Brooke Ellison Story, directed by Christopher Reeve. Brooke went on to earn a master's degree in public policy from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and a PhD in sociology from Stony Brook University. Today, at 42, she is a tenured professor at Stony Brook. In her newest memoir-cum-sociological-analysis, Look Both Ways, Brooke returns to the story of her remarkable life, centering herself in a broader conversation about personal struggle, public policy, and what it means to be human. She reflects upon 31 years as a woman with ventilator-dependent quadriplegia. She writes frankly about her day-to-day frustrations but also lyrically about her belief that people possess the strength and grit to “fight back when we feel all is lost.” Get involved with the National Violence Prevention Hotline: 501(c)(3) Donate Share with your network Write your congressperson Sign our Petition Looking for excellent medical billing services? Conservation in 2023 with Gabriella Hoffman Show Notes: Gabriella Hoffman is the host of the District of Conservation podcast. She's also a media strategist, consultant, and award-winning outdoor writer based in the Washington D.C. metro area. Since 2016, Gabriella has been a consultant to various non-profit organizations, political campaigns, small businesses and start-ups, and veteran-owned companies. She's worked on all kinds of media projects, ranging from radio and public relations to op-ed writing. As it relates to conservation, Gabriella's one of the few journalists in D.C who actively hunts and fishes. She's been fishing for most of her life and started hunting about five years ago. Gabriella shares some great insights as to what's trending and we kick off by talking about the long game anti-hunting groups, or “preservationists” seem to be playing. Hunters aren't always painted in the best light, and preservationists have won the narrative. However, there's been a renewed interest in hunting lately and opinions are starting to change. Gabriella also shares information about the Equal Access to Justice Act and how it has empowered environmentalists to sue to stop hunting activities and true conservation. We talk about how conservationists can fight back, even though it's a bit of an uphill climb. Gabriella and I discuss wildlife management issues, how hunters can use their social media platforms to bring awareness to issues, and how anti-hunting organizations make money from lawsuits to raise funds. What's Inside: How preservationists shape the anti-hunting narrative and how opinions are shifting. How environmentalists use the Equal Access to Justice Act to raise funds. America's border crisis continues to be a huge issue, particularly at the southern border and as it pertains to national security. About 2.4 million encounters have taken place at the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal year 2022. In October it was almost 200,000 more and there appears to be no end in sight. --We're in a very dangerous time, even as it pertains to the -lame duck- session where there's great desperation to get something through, not only on a continuing resolution basis, but also an attempt to pass, without hearing or without debate, what's being called -The Equal Access to Green Cards for Legal Employment Act of 2022.- -HR3648---Appearing on Crosstalk to address several aspects of the border debate was Todd Bensman. Todd is senior National Security Fellow for the Center for Immigration Studies. He's the author of Overrun- How Joe Biden Unleashed the Greatest Border Crisis in U.S. History and America's Covert Border War- The Untold Story of the Nation's Battle to Prevent Jihadist Infiltration. He formerly worked at the Texas Department of Public Safety's Intelligence and Counterterrorism Division, where he managed teams of intelligence analysts that worked in concert with federal homeland security and U.S. Intelligence Community agencies to identify and mitigate terrorism threats.--Todd began by describing how the Biden administration has discreetly begun a program along the border where both the Mexicans and Americans collaborate on legalizing immigrants before they cross into the U.S. This is done between the two governments via what's known as -CBP-1.- This is an online, secure, DHS platform.
