Former Pirates pitcher AJ Burnett joined the show. AJ talked about his retirement life and how he is trying to get into golf, since he was mostly a fisherman during his playing days. He's jealous of Neil Walker being good at everything, including golf. AJ described how spring training is the same and different from his playing days to now. The guys asked AJ about his feeling going into a season when he had a locked down spot versus one he had to prove himself. AJ said he misses ‘everything but the suitcase' about the game and shared that he still keeps up with the game a good bit. AJ would love to compete again and wishes he could still do it in the majors. The guys asked AJ about how the game has changed with a lot of batters going for all power. AJ cannot wait to see Paul Skenes this year and wants to see him pitch in-person soon. AJ discussed the cerebral nature of Skenes and the adjustments he's already making to his game. AJ said the way Skenes speaks makes him want to pitch again and can't believe the maturity level he has at such a young age. The comparisons were made between AJ and Jared Jones based on their swagger on the mound and attacking nature, not necessarily their build. AJ said Pittsburgh still has a top spot in his heart.

The Penguins made a move, but it doesn't look like a good one. Did Ron Hextall fail again? Should we give the acquisition of Mikael Granlund a chance? Poni said there are very few times when you have a take that is not met with contrarian arguments. But the call to fire Hextall is one that seems to be universally agreed upon. Poni called Hextall the most hated figure in Pittsburgh sports right now.  NHL analyst Mike Kelly from NHL Network joined the show. Mike talked about Mikael Granlund, who the Penguins acquired last night, and what he can bring to the table. He talked about a few players that should've been on the radar of Ron Hextall. He said the Pens should be buyers, but the teams ahead of them in the Eastern Conference really loaded up. Mike doesn't think this move makes the Pens a contender this year and isn't sure if it truly gets them there in the future. Mike commented on Teddy Blueger getting shipped to Vegas from Pittsburgh. Mike gave his thoughts on JT Miller and if he would have been a clear better option than Granlund. Mike said the Pens have to live with what they have right now and readdress things in the off-season. Mike said the ceiling for the Penguins is a first-round playoff upset, but doesn't see any way they can go on any sort of run.  Multiple awkward moments between AJ Burnett and Ron Cook today.

Today’s word of the day is ‘hollywood’ as in a Hollywood ending as in Albert Pujols has been designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels. Pujols is in the final year of a 10-year, $240M deal — the timing of this designation was out of nowhere. Let’s try and talk through this situation, his comments, his legacy in LA, and how the Angels chose to let this end. (16:00) Bonus story: What happened with AJ Burnett in September of 2005? (19:57) Bills GM Brandon Beane says he would cut a player if they didn’t get vaccinated. Whoa. It’s rare for a team executive to be that open about such a hot button topic. (32:53) Review: Every Breath You Take. (36:00) NPPOD. (39:27) So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about the Arizona of Governor Doug Ducey passing a new tax bill. What does this all mean? Alex interviews Rob Blackstien of www.rotorob.com, as they discuss the inactivity of the Red Sox offseason and whether the complaints of Red Sox fans about the team not spending significant money this offseason are valid or whiney. Also, with reports coming out that John Henry spent 173 more million dollars on Liverpool than he did on the Red Sox last year, are the Red Sox now just a part of a business portfolio? If so, what does that mean for the team going forward? The top stories of the offseason and some pertinent fantasy baseball questions (it's interesting, promise) are talked about too. Alex gives his own take on the reports that John Henry spent 170+ more million dollars on Liverpool than the Red Sox over the past year. If the Red Sox are a part of a business portfolio, will Henry extend himself past a set budget to improve team if the need arises? Plus, what should we make of the Red Sox heading to arbitration with David Ortiz? In the "Around the League" segment, Alex talks about the Yankees dumping AJ Burnett on the Pirates and the Marlins courting Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes.
