It offends the sensibilities of our inner ‘good girl' who was raised to nurture, serve, smile and be sweet. But part of our depth and deliciousness as women, is our inner Destroyer. It's the part of our psyche that prepares us for new life, new visions, new direction, new creations. The Destroyer is the part of us that wields a sword to cut out what no longer serves us. It's the part of us that, if given a chance, will set fire to everything that is misaligned. … and it's our destructive power that we fear most. (Because to create something new, you tend to destroy something old… and we like to cling to ‘old'). It's when my clients call forward this part of themselves, that the biggest shifts happen in their business (and their life). Old services are scrapped. Misaligned branding goes in the bin. In this episode hear Olly Belcher, President of the St Edmund Hall Alumni Association, in conversation with one of CNN's main sport anchors, Amanda Davies. Amanda came up to the Hall in 1998 to read Geography. She played tennis for the University and rowed in Teddy Hall's first boat. Hear how she missed being at the 1999 Champions League finals to watch her beloved team Manchester United in their greatest ever football game to instead represent Teddy Hall in the Summer 8s where they got bumped in the first fifteen seconds! Amanda was always determined to be a sports journalist and took any opportunity to get some work experience throughout her school and university careers. After the Hall, she joined Sky Sports as a runner, then the BBC and then CNN 9 years ago where she has covered, amongst many amazing events, the 2012 London Olympics. Amanda has managed to juggle her busy work schedule with motherhood and has spent the last year appearing on television with home-schooling going on in the background. Amanda Davies : Multidisciplinary Artist - painting & installation FavourEconomy is a collection of audio recordings shared by women* for the benefit of other women* working in the arts. The project operates as a platform for contributors to voice their experience, insights and skills and share it to the archive. The archive comprises of a series of volumes that develop over a one-year period coinciding with each financial year. The recordings shared to FavourEconomy are termed ‘favours’ because they have been produced by with the intention of being of value for other women* working in the arts to hear. The word ‘favour’ encapsulating a social gesture of ‘sharing something’ without defining exactly what that something might be. FavourEconomy operates as an audio gift economy, whereby each contributor has determined the content and value of their recording set in accordance with their own experience and is received by the listener according to their current situation and need. Artist to Artist was a suite of four solo exhibitions curated by four artist’s presented in ‘rapid fire’ succession across four consecutive Fridays at Contemporary Art Tasmania in 2016. Project curator Kylie Johnson brought together four artist/curator teams: Paul Zika and Jacob Leary, Peter Waller and Micheala Gleave, Amanda Davies and Pat Brassington, Megan Walch and Justene Williams. In this episode we interview three of the project artists, Peter Waller, Megan Walch and Paul Zika, and project curator, Kylie Johnson about the aims and outcomes of the project. Angus Ashton and Kylie Johnson also produced video interviews with the artist curator pairs, to sit alongside each exhibition, and we have released these with this episode.
