The beautiful thing about toddlers and little ones is they package grief in a way that we all want to - really quickly. A toddler's ability to understand loss will increase as they grow, but in the beginning, they are unable to truly grieve. Toddlers will grieve, but they don't grieve in the same way that older children and that adults grieve. Moms will grieve that loss for them, and eventually with them. In a lot of ways, a toddler's slow processing of grief is a gift allowing the mom to focus on her own grief. What do you do when God seems to have vanished? Maybe you feel alone in your decision making, your parenting, in your life? This is the question on the back of the book that we are going to highlight today. It is called *Esther: Seeing Our Invisible God in an Uncertain World. I don't know if you know this, but Esther is one of the two books of the Bible where God's name is not mentioned once. We are going to dive deeper into this today in our study. But I think it is amazing, because God's fingerprints are all over the book of Esther, but His name is not mentioned. Maybe that is where you feel like you are in your life.  You are like where are you God, I don't see you or feel you. Are you even working? So I love that we can study the life of Esther, and we can see that God still is present. He is still working! I am so excited to have Lynn Cowell and Amy Carroll on the podcast to talk about their Bible Study. It is phenomenal, and we are going to dive deeper into their 6-week study with these words: Listen, Feel, Do, Speak.  Also, both Lynn and Amy are writers for Proverbs 31 Ministries, and I am so excited to share about this amazing ministry for Giving Tuesday. Taking the Leap with Rachel G. Scott

Today Rachel is speaking with Amy Carroll. She is a speaker and writer with Proverbs 31 Ministries, a coach, and author of 3 books. She is also a wife to the man she's loved madly for 30 years and a mother to two amazing sons. She feels that God is calling her to use her voice for Him in winsome, compelling ways, and she is still learning.Amy shares with us how she entered into the writing world as a reluctant writer, submitted several book proposals that were rejected and the story behind her first book “Breaking Up with Perfect” and how perfectionism was the thing that almost kept her from making the leap in her life.  A leap that would challenge her faith, test her obedience and develop a saturated prayer life. If you are sensing a leap may be on the horizon and want to know how to manage the emotions, and resistance that you and your family may feel then this episode is for you.In this Episode we talk about about:How she started and entered the writing worldHow she connected with a publisher after several book proposal rejections. The story behind her first book “Breaking Up with Perfect” and how perfectionism was the thing that almost kept her from making the leap in her life. How God used her misery to set her up for her leap. The runway lights you should look for when considering taking a leap. How she worked for a company for 6 years and didn't initially see how it fit to only find out later that it was a huge puzzle piece that fit perfectly into what God called her to do later. Resources and Links:Website | https://amycarroll.org/Socials | https://www.facebook.com/amydohmcarroll/                https://www.instagram.com/amydohmcarroll/ Connect with Rachel at:https://rachelgscott.com/http://the5leaps.com/https://www.instagram.com/iamrachelgscott/https://www.facebook.com/iamrachelgscottText 'Podcast' to 216-279-7174 or  https://my.community.com/rachelscott

Amy is a speaker and writer for Proverbs 31 Ministries, the author of Exhale and Breaking Up with Perfect, and co-host of the Grit ‘n' Grace podcast. She also serves other women who are called to speak through Next Step Coaching Services. She's been married to Barry for over 30 years and they have two grown sons and one daughter-in-love.  She wrote her first book out of a deep conviction that her perfectionism was ruining her relationships and God needed to do a work in her heart and the book did that for her. Perfectionism is a sin and a burden, and Amy is incredibly grateful for God's great love that covers all our sin and gently invites us to grow more like His son, Jesus.    Follow and find Amy's resources at amycarroll.org. Amy's latest book is about one my favorite Bible characters, Esther: Esther: Seeing Our Invisible God in an Uncertain World   What do you do when God seems to have vanished? When you have a decision to make, when your stability is shaken, when your sure-fire plan fails—when everything is spinning out of control… Esther is the perfect partner for seeing our invisible God in uncertainty.  This six-week, in-depth study of the book of Esther is a gritty dive into a woman's story that teaches us to: Listen to wise people who fill our gaps of understanding Embrace your feelings as a catalyst for God-directed action. Do the work God assigns you even when in doubt. Speak up with confidence, knowing that God has a place for your voice in His story. This study guide includes biblical and historical background insights, Bible study, practical application, and questions for reflection.     ______________   How to invest in what matters beyond ourselves. There's my professional side where I speak for Proverbs 31 Ministries and write books. To learn about my speaking and writing, you can read her professional bio.But here, I want to get to know you, and I want you to know the everyday me. This is the real scoop: These days, I feel God calling me to use my voice for Him in winsome, compelling ways, and I'm learning. Because He's been directing my life since I was ten, I trust Him to faithfully show me my next step. The goofiest things make me laugh. British comedy, my sons' corny jokes, and my husband's play on words all crack me up.I'm scared of bouncing a check, closed-in places, and pictures that show my double chin.Almost anything makes me cry. I cry when I'm happy, sad, moved (even by Hallmark commercials), or in awe of something God has done. I don't think on my feet well at all.  I get a joke a day late, and it takes me two weeks to think of the perfect comeback."Amy's committed to opening up her whole life– the good, bad and ugly—to teach what she's learned in pursuit of applying God's Word.  She loves teaching Scripture in all its unvarnished glory, while sharing God's big truths in small, understandable bites.Amy has a new book coming out: Esther: Seeing Our Invisible God in an Uncertain World. If you've ever strived for perfection, then you know how it feels when you fall short. Maybe you aren't the one carrying a list of all you "need to do to earn God's love." But more the type who carries a "Never Good Enough List” with all the reasons you'll never be able to earn His love. Either way, Amy Carroll, (author, speaker, Proverbs 31 contributor) is on the podcast this week helping us break up with perfect. In this episode (and in her new book), Amy helps us recognize the lies we have been believing and the Truth to set us free. Lies like: "I was created to produce perfection" or "People are obstacles to my tasks" or "If I have the right stuff, my life will be perfect." My favorite quote from our conversation was: Only when I end my own pursuit of perfection can God do a perfecting work in me. --Amy Carroll  May you experience a supernatural freedom from the struggle to be perfect. May your friendships deepen, your family be strengthened and your awareness of God's love grow as you stop striving and surrender to His gentle heart work. Could you make a plan to meet with her once in the next few months?  Could you relate to Amy's struggle to feel God's love and having a list of things you have to do to be right with God? Welcome to a two part series with Amy Carroll on how to maximize your return on investment for events.  Kathi shares how when your work is determined by a dollar, it changes everything. As christian communicators, we need to have a higher price on our communication, but it's not always money.  How do you go into an event knowing it is a good return on investment of time, energy, my travel, and more?   Amy shares how to really evaluate your ROI for each event and three ways to get "paid" for an event. For example, a resource table can help cover expenses and give your audience something of value. Kathi says with speaking you can inspire people, but with a resource you can change a life.    Finally, developing a partnership can also provide opportunities.  Amy shares how boundaries established with your ROI can actually allow you to be generous with your partners.    All these help determine what the things are that will help you say “yes” to cutting your fee if asked.    Join us next week for more on how to maximize your return on investment with Amy Carroll!  In today's episode, you will know: How it is important to assess your investment What does it mean to be wise in your investment  Having boundaries with ROI allows you to be generous    To share your thoughts: Leave a note in the comment section below.
