Recorded on a Monday from the Palm Street Studio. Lots of action in this one as we have camera problems, Phil gets a birthday gift, Junior is inducted, we all congratulate him, and we talk football. JTK joins us via satellite. Junior drinks an entire Pirate Water...and lives to continue the podcast...somewhat. Glen leaves us a stellar message to offer his congrats? to Junior.
Christmas is all about gifts, right? Why is that, though? Join Steve as he unwraps the greatest gift ever given. A gift that our palid imitations will never quite live up to, and yet a gift that lifts them and everything we do onto a higher level. The gift of Christ.
It's the season of giving… or is it taking? This week owe're diving into the art of gift-giving (and receiving) while sipping on something special. We're tasting four unique whiskeys from Matchbook Distilling and sharing our thoughts on what makes a gift truly meaningful. Is it the thought, the price tag, or just some good ol' whiskey? Pour a glass, unwrap the conversation, and join us for a spirited discussion. Hi, I'm John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you're listening to Share Life Today. What do you think is the best gift ever? Well today, I want to share with you an opportunity we should not miss this holiday season as we prepare gifts for our family and friends—and that is the sharing about the life-changing, wonderful love of God. The Gospel is literally the best news ever! Having a relationship with Jesus brings us joy, peace, and a fulfilling life. So as you pick gifts to give, let me encourage you to add a card. And inside, share a verse, like Romans 5:8: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." And then write a note about how God has changed your life. Say, "If you'd like to hear more, I'd love to share with you about how having a relationship with God has impacted my life!" And then end wishing them blessings and love. Let's be intentional over the holidays to give the best gift ever. For more, visit www.sharelife.today.
Father's Day is here! Great time to spend time with your kids and family. Lots of great fun. I'm looking forward to spending time with my sons and wife this Father's Day. We have some fun planned. In the past we have played games, gone fishing, hiked, watched movies, bowled, and so much more. Father's Day is awesome! My podcast friend Jeff Ikler - who creates and hosts his show Getting Unstuck - Cultivating Curiosity - had a real cool show this week For Father's Day - Maybe the Best Gift Ever - 314 His focus on his father made me think about my father. So, I decided to do a drift down memory lane. You should take time to listen to Jeff's show. Hope that when you listen to our two shows that you start having fun with your memories. Thanks for listening. All the best. Happy Father's Day! Remember to share with your friends, colleagues, peers, family, and everyone else. Before you go... You could help support this podcast by Buying Me A Coffee. Not really buying me something to drink but clicking on the link on my home page at https://stevenmiletto.com for Buy Me a Coffee or by going to this link Buy Me a Coffee. This would allow you to donate to help the show address the costs associated with producing the podcast from upgrading gear to the fees associated with producing the show. That would be cool. Thanks for thinking about it. Hey, I've got another favor...could you share the podcast with one of your friends, colleagues, and family members? Hmmm? What do you think? Thank you! You are AWESOME! Thanks so much! Length - 18:56
Summary No guest today. Just me musing on the upcoming Father's Day celebration. Given that my father passed away almost forty years ago, I get reflective as the holiday approaches and, more so, as the years between his passing and my age increase. In this episode, I explore why I've been thinking about him more, what I remember about him, why there are gaps in my knowledge, and what I would ask him if I could. My dad was a complex man—perhaps all fathers are—because he was a product of a generation he understood and one that he didn't always. Over the years, I celebrated Father's Day by giving my dad traditional gifts, such as a circular saw, barbecue equipment, or a history book. He always appreciated the gifts, but I wonder if he might have appreciated a conversation more, the result of me asking him questions in an attempt to understand him better. I'd like to think that he would hear my questions as caring on my part. His responses, in turn, would be a gift to me.
Christy Cashman, author of The Truth About Horses, shares why it took her 9 years to write the book and what motivated her. We also talk about how her characters came to life in her dreams and her childhood dream of writing a book. From her previous career in acting and producing, Christy has now ventured into creating Kilkea Castle with her husband and founding YouthINK, a creative youth mentorship program. She is also committed to mental health and practices various techniques like writing in a gratitude journal and cold plunge therapy. Thank you, Christy, for being on the podcast and for our wonderful conversations about belonging and abandonment. I look forward to reading the script, meeting for coffee and wine, and enjoying a delicious lunch in Somerville Massachusetts. The Best Gift EverGus AgostinoDecember 10, 2023SERMON NOTES:2 goals1. If you have not received this gift, DON'T MISS IT!2. If you already have received this gift I hope you will better appreciate it and fully experience it as you are reminded of how great it is.What makes a gift great?● The value of a gift is not so much determined by the cost of the gift but by the thoughtfulness and sacrifice of the giver.● The more personal thought and attention also adds to the value of that gift.● A true gift is always given without any expectation.● One of the best things about a gift is the anticipation of a gift. The Gift of God was ordered before time began!● 2 Timothy 1:8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, 9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,● 1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. The Gift was shipped from heaven to earth when Jesus was found in the womb of Mary! (Matthew 1:18-21)Why did he come?● To save us from ourselves (John 3:16-18)Jesus was not a creation of God, He is God in flesh● JOHN 1: 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.The gift is tracked in the life of Christ!Jesus meet Moses “The Law” He was born under the law to fulfill the law (Luke 2:21-24)● Matthew 5:17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them”● Galations 4:4-5 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.Jesus meets Simeon (Luke 2:25-35)Jesus meets Anna (Luke 2:36-38)● 36 There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37 and then was a widow until she was eighty-four.[e] She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. 38 Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.Philippians 1:6being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.Oasis Church exists to help people see Jesus more clearly. We are led by Pastor Nate Clarke and are located in Richmond, VA.STAY CONNECTEDInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/oasischurchva/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OasisChurchRVA/Website: https://oasischurch.onlineOasis Church exists to help people see Jesus more clearly. We are led by Pastor Nate Clarke and are located in Richmond, VA.Stay Connected:Website: https://oasischurch.online Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oasischurchva/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OasisChurchRVA/

For our last show of the year, we continue our foray into the high strangeness that is Christmas, Yule, and the dark winter months. Author and Ghostly Talk's very own "writer in residence" Mark Onspaugh shares some strange tales, folklore and of course his original story specially written for this show, "The Best Gift Ever" and a retelling of the heartstring puller "Vulpecula." Isolated versions of Mark's stories are available at www.ghostlytalk.com. Make sure to check out Mark's books on Amazon! Bio: Mark Onspaugh is a native Californian who grew up on a steady diet of horror, science fiction and DC Comics. He's a proud member of the Horror Writers Association and the International Thriller Writers association. In addition to the produced film Kill Katie Malone, he has several other screenplays in various stages of development, and was also one of the writers of the cult favorite “Flight of the Living Dead”. While Onspaugh is definitely a fan of the horror genre, he also writes science fiction and comedy. He polished his comedy writing (and improv skills) at the Groundlings Theater in L.A., where he studied under Lisa Kudrow (“Friends”), Michael McDonald (“Mad TV”) and Heather Morgan (“The Dana Carvey Show”). Earlier in his career, Onspaugh studied Special Effects Makeup in college and continued to pursue this passion under the tutelage of premier makeup artist Thomas R. Burman (“Invasion of the Body Snatchers”,” Cat People”, “Scrooged”) with additional lectures by such notables, among others as Oscar-winning makeup artist Rick Baker (“American Werewolf in London”, “Men in Black”, “Planet of the Apes”). An active member of the Horror Writers Association, Onspaugh has won recognition for his screenwriting and a novel, Kushtaka, at the Austin Film Festival and the Writers Network competition, respectively. In 2003, his feature scripts, RAZORFISH and STRANGERS both made the second round at the Austin Film Festival. In 2007, his script THE DEAD LIFE was a quarterfinalist in the 9th annual Scriptapalooza competition. STRANGERS is a backdoor pilot for a series of the same name. Onspaugh has written the STRANGERS bible, debut episode and a regular episode. Onspaugh's previous television credits, include episodes for Night Man (“Burning Love”), X-Men Animated (“Secrets, Not Long Buried”) and Street Fighter Animated (“Getting in Guile”). Mark knows people expect horror writers to be lurking misanthropes, but hasn't lurked since leaving L.A. A native Angeleno, he now lives on the central coast of California with his wife, author/artist Tobey Crockett and two off-kilter cats.
